The paper explores the lived experiences of food among women from multiple locations of caste, class, tribe, religion and region within Assam, India. The everyday experience of women from Namasudra, Bodo and Char based Muslim communities in Nalbari district forms the empirical context. The various ways of production, procurement, preparation, distribution and consumption of food in these communities are explored. All these practices in general reflect the embodied patriarchal values. The women’s body and nutrition become important for the community when she is pregnant. Here the women have minimal negotiating power, but there has been some resistance of late. Thus, it is argued that the dynamics of conforming and resistance to the dominant practices has to be located in the intersectional matrix of social reality.
