This essay pertains to the plight of widows within Indian culture, as discussed by female intellectuals of a Hindi women’s magazine. Beginning with a survey of the prevailing condition of women in the early 20th century that was predominantly a continuation of the traditional social order with little changes, the essay situates this as the backdrop for the examination of widows’ position. This article sheds light on the various atrocities that were inflicted upon widows, who were subjected to a form of enslavement within their culture. In particular, this essay emphasizes the challenges that widows must had to overcome in order to reclaim their agency and dignity in the face of these oppressive circumstances. The present article posits that the struggle of widows is an issue of individual consciousness, and it aims to examine the everyday unease experienced by widows through a periodical lens. Throughout the 20th century, widows were considered an element of extreme dislike and a dependent community, rendering them an unsuspicious part of Indian society. The paper investigates into the anxiety and uneasiness experienced by widows with regard to their religious-cultural associates, practices, and the secluded pain they endure, which reinforces women’s identities as social threats. Furthermore, the article examines the criticism leveled by conservative groups at the editor of the journal “Chand”1 for advocating widow remarriage after introducing a special issue on widows.

This interdisciplinary work communicates the identification and quantification of elements responsible for the bioactive potency of leaves from pointed gourd, trichosanthes dioica, using laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS). Calibration-free LIBS determines the presence of various trace and major elements, their concentrations, and ratios in which they are present in the leaves. The presence of specific elemental ratios of magnesium/sodium and magnesium/potassium could be promising for managing diabetes mellitus. Variable doses of aqueous extract from trichosanthes dioica leaves are administered for determination of the most effective one. Based on encouraging results, the extract could be harvested to serve as anti-diabetic medication for diabetes and associated symptoms.

To achieve higher crop production in a soybean-wheat cropping system, comprehensive knowledge of soil fertility status and its variability is crucial. However, a significant gap exists between the potential and actual productivity of this system in the Vertisols of Indian semi-arid tropics. Therefore, 2 years of field research were conducted to investigate how different crop management practices affect soil fertility in this cropping system. Currently, the physical layer security is considered as one of the most suitable security techniques in Diffusive Molecular Communication (DMC) because of ease to implement. A recent piece of literature has presented the Secrecy Capacity (SC) of DMC system under the rectangular deployment. To evaluate the information capacity (IC) and thereby SC using the Concentration Greens Function (CGF) in the molecular communication depends on the biological structures of tissues. In this paper, we have investigated the analytical expressions of IC under both the Biological Cylindrical Deployment (BCD) and Biological Spherical Deployment (BSD). Therefore, the analytical expressions of IC have been employed to derive the mathematical expressions of SC under the BCD and BSD environment. Further, the SC is analyzed as a function of distance/radius considering the power and/or bandwidth as the parameter. In addition, the effect of distance of authentic receiver on SC is also explored. It is observed that irrespective of the deployments, the distance of the authentic receiver illustrates predominant effect on the value of SC. The proposed analysis is useful in the implementation of DMC under different tissues structures. The numerically simulated results show close agreement with the theoretical background.

Background: These days, food products industry involves the commercial production and addition of food colors, which comprises many food dyes, including caramel colors. 4-methylimidazole (4-MEI) is a component of various caramel-colored food products such as bakery, beer, soft drinks, coffee and sauces, which are consumed daily. The most common route of exposure is ingestion and liver is the organ of detoxification. The histomorphometric observations in liver after 4-MEI consumption have not been reported to the best of our knowledge and so the present study have been designed to evaluate the same. Methodology: Adult male Wistar albino rats weighing 150–200 g were procured for the study and divided into the control and experimental groups. The experimental animals were given 4-MEI orally by gavage tube at a dose of 250 mg/kg body weight daily for 1 month, while the control animals received distilled water. At the end of experiment, all the animals were euthanized under ether anesthesia by perfusion with Formal saline. Dissection and histopathological processing of liver was done for the examination. Results: The histomorphometric observations of the liver in experimental rats revealed a significant increase in sinusoidal width indicative of sinusoidal dilatation and congestion. There was a significant increase in the size of hepatocytes while a decrease in the size of their nuclei was noted, suggestive of ballooning degeneration. Conclusion: The findings in the present study strongly suggest hepatocellular damage caused by ingestion of 4-MEI found in caramel color dyes used routinely in the food industry.

Abstract The converter transformers are susceptible to more noise and vibration when compared to power transformers due to the presence of DC bias in the DC transmission line. DC bias occurs mostly due to inaccuracies in valve firing resulting in a small residual DC oscillating around zero. Measurement of magnetostriction becomes significant as it influences the vibration and noise from the core. Hence, a magnetostrictive model of a high‐voltage DC converter transformer has been developed. This work analyses the vibration and noise acoustics under such an occurrence. First, the core of the transformer model is designed in the stepped configuration for 240 MVA; then, magnetostrictive vibration is analysed by using suitable modules of COMSOL Multiphysics at different magnitudes of DC bias. The physics of noise has been interfaced using the Acoustics Module, and the results are recorded. Finally, artificial neural network model is developed for the prediction of vibration and noise characteristics of the model. The fitting process of neural network was then remodelled using various optimisation techniques, namely teaching–learning‐based optimisation, particle swarm optimisation, biogeography‐based optimisation, simulated annealing and binary coded genetic algorithm, and their results were compared to obtain the best‐suited method using % mean‐squared‐error evaluation.

The heat dissipation factor of conventional epoxy impregnated paper bushings is a subject of concern due to the large quantities of power in a High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) system. The present work deals with the selection of better insulation as a replacement to the conventional resin impregnated material employing nano-hexagonal-Boron Nitride and nano-hexagonal-Boron Nitride added with nano-cellulose-fiber. The bushing of the converter transformer is designed using the Finite Element Method (FEM), and the electrothermal analysis is performed at the loaded working condition. Besides, numerous optimization schemes are also presented for adapting the structure of the thermal conductor enclosed in the inner conductor. The electrothermal performances of the above materials with the optimized structure are compared and an advanced scheme is proposed. Further, the results obtained from the designed system are employed in the form of an Artificial Neural Network to simplify the process of thermal computation characterized by the selected scheme. The internal parameters of the neural network are tuned implementing a hybrid amalgamation of Particle Swarm optimization - Grey Wolf Optimiser and the performance is compared against the actual values. The supremacy of the implemented algorithm is justified by a comparative analysis with other well-established algorithms using various statistical parameters.

Introduction: Both aluminium and ethanol are pro-oxidants and neurotoxic. Moderately intake of alcohol may favor the body in coronary heart disease and diabetes mellitus etc. Being cheaper aluminium and increasing consumption of alcohol in India mixed with each other and may induce neurotoxicity. The present study was planned to identify the level of aluminium induced neurodegeneration in presence of ethanol coexposure in the cerebellum. Materials and Methods: An experimental study was carried out at Dr. RP Government Medical College, Kangra, and Government Medical College, Amritsar, India after due approval from the Institute Animal Ethics Committee. Thirty-two Wistar rats were divided into one vehicle control and three experimental groups. Group I received the normal saline water as the vehicle control group. Group II received aluminium chloride 4.2 mg/kg body weight as the experimental group. Group III received ethanol 1 g/kg body weight as the experimental group. Group IV received both aluminium chloride 4.2 mg/kg body weight and ethanol 1 g/kg body weight as the experimental group. After 3 months of treatment, cerebellum was processed for histopathological observation under the microscope. Results: Experimental group treated with aluminium and ethanol separately showed reduction in the number of Purkinje cells, without a prominent nucleolus and well-defined nuclear membrane. Eosinophilic swelling adjacent to Purkinje cell bodies observed. The effects of combined administration of aluminium ethanol treated groups showed with acute neurodegeneration of Purkinje cell layer and granular layer. Pyknosis and neurofibrillary tangle seen in Purkinje cells. Conclusions: It has been suggested that the ethanol-induced the effects of aluminium on the cerebellum and plays a significant role in neurotoxicity.

Background: Potentially malignant disorders are highly prevalent in India. In this study, we assessed C-reactive protein (CRP) levels in patients with oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Methodology: Sixty-four patients (OSMF and OSCC) were undertaken and were classified into 3 groups, OSMF patients (Group I, 34), OSCC (Group II, 30), and healthy controls (Group III, 26). Immunoturbidimetry method was used for the estimation of CRP levels. Results: Maximum cases in Group I was seen in the age group 40–60 years (males-10, females-3), Group II in the age group 40–60 years (males-11, females-5) and Group III (males-5, females-6). The mean CRP level in Group I was 6.12 ± 4.5 mg/l, in Group II was 28.4 ± 21.5 mg/l, and in Group III was 3.15 ± 2.19 mg/l. The difference was significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Authors found that OSMF and oral cancer patients had increased CRP levels as compared to healthy subjects.

Introduction: Femoral neck anteversion is an important parameter of proximal femoral geometry. It has not only an anthropological value but also it gives an insight into possible underlying hip pathology. Aim: To measure femoral neck anteversion values in sub himalyan population of north west India using digital radiography and dry bone measurements. Materials and Methods: This was a prospective hospital based study. Anteversion in 89 patients (89 paired femora) was measured by digital radiography and dry bone measurements. 93 unpaired dry cadaveric bones from the collection of bones maintained by Department of Anatomy of our institute were analysed by direct measurements. The results obtained were statistically analysed. Results: The mean femoral neck anteversion by digital radiography method was 14.70±2.26 while 14.57±2.67 by dry bone measurements. Males had higher anteversion values when compared to females in both groups. All these differences were not statistically significant. Conclusion: Increased femoral anteversion values are associated with clinical conditions like intoeing gait, hip osteoarthritis, femoroacetabular impingment, Developemental dysplasia of hip and Perthes disease. The data from this study would help establish values of femoral neck anteversion for sub himalayan population of north west India, provide insight into above mentioned disease conditions and help in planning orthopaedic surgeries like osteotomies about the hip and total hip replacement.

Background and aims. During root canal preparation, debris extruded beyond the apical foramen may result in periapical inflammation and postoperative pain. To date no root canal preparation method has been developed that extrudes no peri-apical debris. The purpose of this study was to identify a system leading to minimal extrusion of debris from the apical fo-ramen. The study was conducted to comparatively evaluate the amount of apical extrusion of debris during root canal prepa-ration using hand ProTaper and GT rotary and RaCe rotary instruments using crown-down technique. Materials and methods. Ninety freshly extracted human single-rooted mandibular premolars were equally assigned to three groups (n=30). The root canals were instrumented using hand ProTaper, GT rotary and RaCe rotary systems. Debris and irrigant extruded from the apical foramen were collected into vials. The mean weight of the remaining debris was calcu-lated for each group and subjected to statistical analysis. Results. ANOVA was used to compare the mean dry weights of the debris extruded in the three groups, followedby post hoc Tukey tests for multiple comparisons the between groups. Background: An in vivo comparative evaluation to determine the accuracy of working length between radiographic and electronic apex locators. Aim: The study was aimed at evaluating the accuracy of electronic apex locator, to determine the working length of root canal, and to compare it with the radiographic method of working length determination. Materials and Methods: A total of 20 teeth selected for the study had to go for extraction because of periodontal or orthodontic reasons. Access cavity was prepared and the clinical estimated working length (CEWL) was determined with 10-25 no. K-file. A radiograph was then taken for determining the radiographic estimated working length (REWL). For electronic measurement of root canal, a 10 no. K-file was advanced toward the apex until it reached a 0.5 mm short of apex as shown by the apex locator. After fixing the file with a light cured composite, the tooth was extracted, the tooth surface was then longitudinally grounded using straight fissure diamond bur until the root canal and the tip of the file were visible. The distance of file from the minor constriction was measured with help of stereomicroscope. Statistical analysis : The chi-square test was used for statistical analysis for this study. Results: The chi-square test where χ2 = 21.034 with P = 0.000 indicated that a significant difference exists among the groups. The electronic method showed highest number of cases with the working length at the minor constrictor. Conclusion: The electronic method for determining the working length of root canal was found to be more accurate than the radiographic method.

Aim: Evaluation of microleakage in endodontically treated teeth that have been coronally sealed with eugenol and noneugenol containing zinc oxide cement, with and without the use of cavity varnish. Materials and Methods: The crowns of single rooted teeth were removed at the cementoenamel junction (CEJ) and the root canals were prepared and obturated with gutta-percha points and zinc oxide eugenol (ZOE) sealer using lateral condensation technique. The samples were randomly divided into four groups-group 1, coronal seal was obtained with ZOE cement; in group 2, three coats of cavity varnish followed with coronal seal of ZOE cement; in group 3, Litark a (noneugenol cement) was placed in the prepared cavity as in group 1; and in group 4, cavity varnish and Litark were placed instead of ZOE as in group 2. The specimens were immersed in 2% methylene blue dye and examined under traveling microscope for evidence of dye penetration of the material. Statistical Analysis: In this study, Kruskal-Wallis test, Mann-Whitney U, and Wilcoxon W tests were used. Results: Kruskal-Wallis test with P=0.000 indicated that a significant difference exists between the four groups. Mann-Whitney U test and Wilcoxon W test showed a significant difference at 0.05 levels as follows: group 1 with group 3 and 4, group 2 with group 3 and 4, and group 3 with group 4. There was no significant difference at 0.05 levels between group 1 and group 2. Conclusion: Group 4 showed significant less amount of dye penetration as compared with other groups.
