Successful integrated management of the invasive predatory sea lamprey (Petromyzon marinus) in the Laurentian Great Lakes of North America is owed largely to the long history of beneficial use of two lampricides: 3-trifluoromethyl-4nitrophenol (TFM) and 2',5-dichloro-4'-nitrosalicylanilide (niclosamide). Ensuring continued successful sea lamprey control necessitates consideration of possible next-generation lampricides to supplement or replace current lampricides. This review identifies fifteen hallmarks of success for current lampricides to be used as design criteria in a search for nextgeneration lampricides. A three-stage research approach is outlined. Targeted research using omics, computer modelling, and high-throughput technology to define molecular mechanisms and high probability molecular targets for sea lamprey selective toxic action is crucial to prioritizing chemical candidates. Targeted delivery or identifying synergists to existing or new lampricides can provide increased efficiency and reduced environmental impact. Ultimate development of next-generation lampricides will rely on traditional toxicity testing methodologies to ensure safety and regulatory compliance. Le maintien de l'efficacite de la lutte contre la lamproie requiert l'examen d'eventuels lampricides de nouvelle generation comme complements ou en remplacement des lampricides actuels. La presente synthese cerne 15 aspects cles expliquant l'efficacite des lampricides actuels a utiliser comme criteres de conception dans la quete de lampricides de nouvelle generation. Une approche de recherche a trois volets est decrite. Over the last decade, there has been increased momentum to bring the worlds of physical and behavioral health care together. Instead of social work education simply reacting to this change, it is imperative that we be proactive and prepare students to be "multilingual," that is, be able to speak and function in both the worlds of health and mental health so they can move seamlessly into the new world of integrated care. The purpose of this article is to explore curricular and pedagogical strategies needed to prepare graduate social work students for the coming shift in practice toward integrated health and mental health care.

In this paper, the plastic mold compaction device (PM Device) was used successfully during full-scale construction of lime- and cement-stabilized pavement layers for which strict quality control measures were taken, such as multiple spread rate calibration, frequent moisture contents, and close attention to compaction timing and density measurements. Even with these precautions to minimize variability, there was quantifiable variation in density, unconfined compressive strength (UCS), and elastic modulus (E) for soil–cement and soil–lime mixtures. Over the 61-m test section, density varied by 5.2% for soil–cement and by 5.0% for soil–lime, UCS varied by 861 kPa for soil–cement and by 246 kPa for soil–lime, and E varied by 2,628 MPa for soil–cement and by 1,036 MPa for soil–lime. There also were noticeable differences in PM Device density and E measurements compared with nuclear gauge and falling weight deflectometer–calculated modulus. This paper also serves as the first known and documented use of the PM Device with lime-stabilized material, and is the first known and documented comparison of PM Device specimens and beams compacted with a Proctor hammer. Compared with other field projects in which the PM Device was implemented, the variability of density and UCS in this project was lower than in other typical Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) projects. When using the data collected at the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) test track as a baseline for soil–cement materials, variability likely will be no less than 5% for density as a percentage of the target density and 75% for UCS as a percentage of the average UCS value when using current MDOT construction protocols. This article provides an overview of the status of leadership in social work, with an emphasis on unique functions and challenges leaders face in the field. Included in this review is a consideration of the concept of leadership as distinct from management, a historical review of the development of leadership as a specialty within social work, and a look at the reported effectiveness of various leadership models. Finally, it is argued that among the various leadership models to choose from, client-centered leadership is consistent with the goals and values that undergird the profession.

Researchers and practitioners have questioned how the implementation of a system of care influences the broader context of children's social services within a community. We examined the impact that the Dawn Project system of care had on children's services in Marion County, Indiana. A series of semi-structured interviews were conducted in order to gain a broad understanding of stakeholder perspectives related to how system-level and other community leaders viewed system of care influences. Qualitative analyses uncovered several common themes including positive impact at the community level, challenges to implementation, and feelings of ambivalence related to program impact. Results were generally positive and suggested that most respondents saw core system of care principles beginning to emerge within the community related to the establishment of the care system. In addition, challenges to implementing the system of care also were uncovered, including some underlying resistance to system-level changes. Implications from our study highlight the importance of continuously working to enhance strengths and collaboration among systems, integrate and coordinate across systems and services, and authentically involve families at all levels.

Over 450 cores were extracted from roadways throughout Mississippi to provide a realistic picture of mechanical properties in later-age chemically stabilized soil. Cores ranged from 10 to 54 years old and were stabilized with either lime-fly ash, cement, or lime. Indirect tensile strength (IDT), unconfined compressive strength (UCS), and elastic modulus (E) tests were used to quantify mechanical properties. Generally speaking, IDT, UCS, and E values tended not to exceed 250, 1500, and 1,500,000 psi (1724 kPa, 10,342 kPa, and 10,342 MPa), respectively, in pavements over 10 years old. Cores were also compared to mechanical property relationships found in the 1993 AASHTO design guide and the Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide (MEPDG) and the literature to determine their applicability to later-age pavement properties. Relationships from the literature comparing IDT to UCS were generally good predictors of later-age property relationships; however, relationships between E and UCS were not good predictors of later-age strength as most equations did not account for the decrease in E development over time when compared to UCS.
