A (p, p′γ) experiment was performed at the Tandem accelerator of IFIN-HH (Bucharest) with the purpose of measuring the proton inelastic cross-sections on 16O and 28Si. The goal was to investigate to which extent the neutron cross-sections on these nuclei can be inferred from those obtained with charged particles (i.e., protons). In doing so, we are trying to exploit the isospin symmetry by taking under consideration that the chosen targets are N = Z nuclei and, consequently, two mirror nuclei are formed in the (p,p′) and (n,n′) reactions. The experimental setup consisted of two HPGe detectors with 100% relative efficiency placed at 110∘ and 150∘ relative to the direction of the incident proton beam. The incident protons, which had energies ranging from 6 up to 17 MeV, were scattered on a thick quartz (SiO2) target. A Faraday cup was used to integrate the beam current, thus allowing an absolute determination of the γ production cross sections. We will briefly describe the data analysis procedure, the experimental particularities and difficulties and some preliminary results of the γ production cross sections for the most intense transitions both in 16O and 28Si.

Physics ,QC1-999 - Abstract
The Extreme Light Infrastructure - Nuclear Physics facility is dedicated to nuclear physics studies with the use of extreme electromagnetic radiation. One of the main research system to be installed and operated in the facility is an outstanding high brilliance gamma beam system. The Gamma Beam System of ELI–NP will produce intense, quasi–monochromatic gamma beams via inverse Compton scattering of short laser pulses on relativistic electron beam pulses. The gamma beams available at ELI–NP will allow for the performance of photo-nuclear reactions aiming to reveal the intimate structure of the atomic nucleus. Nuclear Resonance Fluorescence, photo-fission, photo-disintegration reactions above the particle threshold will be used to study the dipole response of nuclei, the structure of the Pygmy resonances, nuclear processes relevant for astrophysics, production and study of exotic neutron–rich nuclei.

The high brilliance Gamma Beam System (GBS) at ELI-NP will deliver quasi-monochromatic gamma beams with a high spectral density (10, 000 photons/s/eV) and high degree of linear polarization (>95%). The Gamma Beam Delivery and Diagnostics (GBDD) of ELI-NP is implemented to deliver the gamma beams to the experimental setups and to monitor the characteristics of the beams. An EPICS control system is developed for the GBDD to support two main categories of equipment: i) equipment for the delivery of the gamma beam including vacuum systems, collimators, alignment platforms, and moveable beam dumps; ii) devices to be used during the operation of the GBS for diagnostics and monitoring including digitizers, power supplies, detectors, and profile system. High-level applications for the Gamma Beam diagnostics system are under development to complement the real-time measurements and monitoring including energy spread measurement, flux and polarization measurement, spatial profile monitor and time structure monitor. This paper describes all the aspects of the EPICS Control System for ELI-NP GBDD, including the hardware integration, network architecture, and high-level applications., Proceedings of the 16th Int. Conf. on Accelerator and Large Experimental Control Systems, ICALEPCS2017, Barcelona, Spain

WOS: 000300864200005, The Advanced GAmma Tracking Array (AGATA) is a European project to develop and operate the next generation gamma-ray spectrometer. AGATA is based on the technique of gamma-ray energy tracking in electrically segmented high-purity germanium crystals. This technique requires the accurate determination of the energy, time and position of every interaction as a gamma ray deposits its energy within the detector volume. Reconstruction of the full interaction path results in a detector with very high efficiency and excellent spectral response. The realisation of gamma-ray tracking and AGATA is a result of many technical advances. These include the development of encapsulated highly segmented germanium detectors assembled in a triple cluster detector cryostat, an electronics system with fast digital sampling and a data acquisition system to process the data at a high rate. The full characterisation of the crystals was measured and compared with detector-response simulations. This enabled pulse-shape analysis algorithms, to extract energy, time and position, to be employed. In addition, tracking algorithms for event reconstruction were developed. The first phase of AGATA is now complete and operational in its first physics campaign. In the future AGATA will be moved between laboratories in Europe and operated in a series of campaigns to take advantage of the different beams and facilities available to maximise its science output. The paper reviews all the achievements made in the AGATA project including all the necessary infrastructure to operate and support the spectrometer. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. 8th International Conference on Position Sensitive Detectors -- SEP 01-05, 2008 -- Univ Glasgow, Glasgow, SCOTLAND, WOS: 000267405700018, The imaging capabilities of an AGATA detector have been determined experimentally. Fundamental information on the detector performance can be obtained by a back-projection of the events consisting in a Compton scattering and a subsequent photoelectric absorption. The procedure presented will allow to obtain a feedback on the over-all position resolution of tracking detectors with a high energy resolution. Thanks to its simplicity the method will be used to guarantee the maximal operational performance of tracking arrays such as AGATA. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
