2. Predicting the potential distribution of Pseudococcus longispinus (Targioni-Tozzetti) (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae) in South Korea using a CLIMEX model

- Abstract
Pseudococcus longispinus (Targioni-Tozzetti) (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae) is a widely-distributed pest that feeds on many economically important hosts, particularly tropical fruits and ornamentals. The potential distribution of this mealybug pest in South Korea remains a primary concern because of its high incidence of interceptions screened during inspection. Hence, this species prompted a modelling effort to assess its potential risk of introduction. Potential risk maps were developed for this pest with a CLIMEX model based on occurrence records under environmental data. The potential distribution of these pests in South Korea in the 2020s, 2050s and 2090s was projected based on the RCP 8.5 climate change scenario. Results showed that P. longispinus has little potential for invasion in the outdoor environment of South Korea due to high cold stress in the 2020s. However, some locations in Jejudo were predicted to be marginally suitable under future climate factors. In that respect, the results of this model prediction could be used to prepare a risk-based surveying program that improves the probability of detecting early P. longispinus populations. 3. Diagnosis of Spilococcus pacificus (Borchsenius, 1949) and an updated list of scale insects (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha) on pears (Pyrus L.: Rosaceae) in South Korea

- Abstract
Pears, Pyrus pyrifolia (Burm.f.) Nak. (Rosaceae) are one of the most widely grown fruit trees in South Korea. Approximately 11% of the total pear production in 2022 was exported to countries such as the US and Vietnam. Exported pears must be free of pest species that are considered of quarantine importance by the importing countries. Herein, a list of scale insects (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha) associated with pear trees is updated. Additionally, Spilococcus pacificus (Borchsenius) is added to the list of mealybugs affecting pears in South Korea and is briefly diagnosed based on non-type specimens and illustrated using photographs. 4. Updated list of intercepted Coccidae (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha) at South Korean ports of entry and potential invasive species to South Korea

- Abstract
An updated list is given of 25 species of soft scale insects (Hemiptera: Coccidae) which have been intercepted on plants imported into South Korea during the period of 1996 to 2021. Information on the number of interceptions, host plants, distribution and origin of species intercepted at South Korean ports of entry is provided. In addition, data on intercepted species was analyzed to determine potential invasive species of soft scales that could threaten South Korean plants. Soft scale insects (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha: Coccidae) occur in all zoogeographical regions of the world. The Coccidae is the third largest family of scale insects (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha) with 1225 species in 178 genera known worldwide (García Morales et al. 2022). Biologically, soft scales which are plant feeders, can occur on just about any part of the plant but are especially common on the stems, leaves and fruits (Miller et al. 2014). Many species are significant economic pests of fruits and also landscaping plants (Hamon and Williams 1984; Gill 1988; Miller et al. 2014; Kondo and Watson 2022). Invasive species of insects which are not native, represent an increasing concern to South Korea since globalization has been facilitating the increase in plant trade, promoting the long-distance movement of pests attached on these plants (Mazzeo et al. 2014). If non-native species are able to establish in a different environment, they often become economic pests, resulting in yield losses, diminished product quality, increased production costs, especially in the application of chemical control measures which often have a deleterious effect on the environment, humans and the ecology of the agroecosystem (Huber et al. 2002; Miller and Miller 2003). Dysmicoccus brevipes (Cockerell) and Dysmicoccus neobrevipes Beardsley are major pests of pineapples, ornamentals, and vegetable crops in many countries around the world. Thoracic tracheal openings with subtle combs. Vasiform orifice elongate triangular, caudal furrow well defined by a pair of ridges. Caudal setae long and stout, longer than vasiform orifice. Korean quarantine notes. This species was described from Greece (Western Palaearctic region) and was intercepted 1438 times at Korean ports from China, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Israel, Belgium, Netherlands, Kenya, South Africa, Canada, USA and Colombia and on a wide variety of host plants. This species was described from England (Western Palaearctic region) and was intercepted 122 times at Korean ports of entry on cut flowers, trees and Brassicaceae from China, Colombia, France, Japan, Kenya, Netherlands, Thailand, USA and Vietnam. Dorsal disc spines acute; submargin usually with 11 pairs of stout spines in a row with cephalothoracic and caudal pairs alternately longer than adjacent ones. Korean quarantine notes. Although this whitefly was described from Jamaica (Neotropical region), it is probably native to southeast Asia where effective natural enemies have been found. It is nearly worldwide in distribution and was intercepted five times; Myanmar on Citrus medica (Rutaceae); Thailand on Citrus aurantifolia (Rutaceae). Longitudinal and transverse moulting sutures joined distally by a cephalothoracic suture which is concentric with margin; longitudinal moulting suture does not extend anteriorly beyond its junction with cephalothoracic suture. Tracheal pore sclerotized, opens at margin, tracheal fold generally only slightly indicated near margin. Caudal pore and fold conspicuous; fold dotted. Body about 1 mm long, pale yellowish with fuscous markings; head with a transverse, strongly pigmented black bar on occiput, on each side of foramen; antennal scape pale, with a longitudinal fuscous stripe, pedicel and funicular segments fuscous, basal part of club usually somewhat paler, apex of club blackish; propodeal crenulae fairly numerous, narrow, elongate and nonoverlapping; centre of abdomen immaculate, short fuscous stripes on sides of tergites, tergite VII with a crossband; forewing usually about 2.6× as long as wide, marginal vein considerably longer than submarginal vein, with a delta-shaped area basad of speculum bearing 10–12 rows of 100–116 setae; ovipositor shaft about 1.5 × as long as the middle tibia. Body yellow to silvery white; forewing with hyaline cells or infuscated patterns, without hyaline cells along margin and apex; antenna six-segmented (1,1,2,2), scape slender, about 6.0�� as long as broad; midlobe of mesoscutum with 14 to 16 setae; gasteral dorsum infuscate brown with sides from base to apex silvery white and a narrow dark brown cross-band on tergum I to V extending to silvery sides, a dark spot on each of silvery sides; legs whitish to pale yellow, with dark brown complete or incomplete bands, tarsi five-segmented. 6. Calophya rhois (L��w) (Calophyidae) (Fig. 9) Psylla rhois L��w 1877. Korea port interception. Intercepted one time at Korean ports of entry from China on cut flowers of Cotinus plants. Diagnosis. Adults: General body color young specimens head and thorax reddish brown, abdomen green or yellow; older specimens, head and thorax chestnut brown, abdomen red and brown (Hodkinson and White 1979). Forewing membranous, clear; veins yellow; pterostigma long. Head bearing genal cones short. Antennae yellow, except at tip; shorter than width of head, thick always black at tip. Male anal valve broad, about 0.7�� as broad as long, convex on both hind and front margins. Hosts. Asteraceae: Ambrosia artemisiifolia L. Anacardiaceae: Cotinus coggygria Scop., Rhus ambigua Lav. ex Dippel, Rhus coriaria L., Rhus cotinus L. (Ouvrard 2020). Distribution. Diagnosis. Adults: General body color orange to brown; antennae dirty yellow, segments 3���6 darkened apically, segments 6���10 dark brown. Forewing elongate oblong-oval; costal break and rudimentary pterostigma present; spinules absent or thinly scattered in areas of brown patterning. Metatibia with 5 thick black spurs, basal metatarsus without black spurs. Male proctiger simple; paramere slightly expanded subapically, inner tooth partially hidden inside view; aedeagus with slightly hooked apex (Hodkinson and Hollis 1987). Hosts. Fabaceae: Retama monosperma (L.) Boiss., Retama raetam (Forssk.) Webb and Berthel., Retama sphaerocarpa (L.) Boiss. (Ouvrard 2020). Distribution. Adults: General body color dark chocolate brown, the humeral regions of the thorax often orange. Antennae pale yellow with apical segment darkened. Forewing more oval shaped, with a broadly rounded apex; membrane dirty whitish. Male proctiger with segment 2 broader; parameres relatively smaller and slender, at most 1.45�� length of proctiger segment 1; lacking peg-like setae adjacent to posterior margin (Hodkinson 2007). * Zaomma eriococci (Ferri��re, 1955) [Encyrtidae] (Fig. 5-6) Apterencyrtus eriococci Ferri��re, 1955: 117���118. Female, Germany. Diagnosis. Female. Body about 1.3 mm long, black with frons and mesoscutum having metallic reflec- tions. Antenna black except for F5���F6 white; clava three-segmented, apically obliquely truncated, larger, wider than last funicle segment; six-segmented funicle cylindrical. Mesoscutum with white setae; black tuft of bristles located about on middle of scutellum. Middle tibiae white; tarsus five-segmented. Fore wing hyaline; venation yellow-brown. Ovipositor slightly projecting. Male. Body 1 mm long, generally similar to the female except for antenna and genitalia; antennae brownish, funicle cylindrical, with long hairs; mesoscutum with blackish setae (Tachikawa 1979). Material examined. Korea. GG: 126 Suin-ro, Gwonseon-gu, Suwon-si, 1 female and 1 male, ex . A. lagerstroemiae on L. indica, 18-VI-2014 (S.J. Suh). Distribution. China, Europe, Japan, Kazakhstan (Noyes 2018); Korea *. Hosts. Recorded from eight species belonging to Eriococcidae (7 species) and Pseudococcidae (1 species) (Noyes 2018); Eriococcidae: Acanthococcus lagerstroemiae *. Remarks.
