This study aimed to: (1) produce higher order thinking skill (HOTS) assessment instruments in learning Indonesian history; (2) know the validity of HOTS assessment instruments in learning Indonesian history; and (3) find out the characteristics of HOTS questions in learning Indonesian history. This study employed the research and development method of the Borg and Gall model. The HOTS test item was conducted on 36 students in class XI of 2 Ngaglik State Senior High School. Data analysis includes tests of validity, reliability, level of difficulty, distinguishing features and deception index. The study found: (1) the HOTS assessment instrument of multiple-choice questions consisted of 25 items; (2) the results of the HOTS question validation by two Indonesian history learning assessment experts on the material, construction and language aspects were valid and appropriate. The results of the validation by three Indonesian history teachers also stated that the assessment instruments were valid and appropriate; and (3) the characteristics of HOTS questions had fulfilled the validity criteria of 23 questions, reliability with a coefficient of 0.97 (very strong), the average difficulty level is 0.33 (moderate), the average differentiation test is 0.42 (good), and the average deception index is 0.56 (good).

The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of the "sorogan" method in history learning to improve students' historical understanding and historical awareness. The research method used a quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group design, and the sampling technique used a cluster sampling with a sample size of 96 students. Collecting data through observation, interviews, and tests of historical understanding and awareness. Meanwhile, data analysis to determine the effect and differences of the "sorogan" method to increase understanding and historical awareness using the independent sample t-test and N-gain score test. The results showed that there were a significant influence and difference between the two groups, namely the experimental and control classes based on the results of the independent sample t-test, the hypothesis H0 was rejected with a significance value of 0.000<0.05, further strengthened by the results of the N-gain score test which was included in the criteria low and medium. This means that there is an influence and increase from the implementation of the "sorogan" method on historical understanding and awareness and getting a positive response from teachers and students, because the "sorogan" method is student-centered, and the teacher acts as tutorship/mentorship.

Since joining The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Indonesia has been actively shaping its education policy following the recommendations derived from the results of the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA). In response to the consistently low PISA reading scores, in 2015 the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture launched a literacy program called the School Literacy Movement. However, PISA results in 2018 indicated that the literacy score of Indonesian students was lower than their score before the SLM program. This paper will analyze the conceptual problems behind the failure of the SLM. Using Paulo Freire's concept of critical literacy as an analytical framework, this paper will investigate the basic assumptions of the SLM concerning the concept of human and his/her relations to the world and its implications on the program's appreciation of students' agency as learners. This article explores how a literacy practice with problematic concepts of human fails to become a humanization movement, instead the literacy practice only becomes a tool for the state to pursue economic targets under the pressure of global neoliberalism. In doing so, this paper seeks to explore how the neoliberal framework inherent in PISA has shaped a literacy program in one of its participating countries.

This study aims to analyze the influence of cooperative learning models and learning motivation on student learning outcomes on chemical bonding materials. The background of this research is the low learning outcomes of students on complex chemical materials, especially chemical bonds, which are often caused by a lack of understanding of concepts and low student learning motivation. To overcome this problem, a cooperative learning model is proposed as an effective strategy. This study uses a quantitative method with a pseudo-experimental design involving two classes as samples: an experimental class that uses a cooperative learning model and a control class with conventional learning methods. Data collection was carried out through learning outcome tests and learning motivation questionnaires. The study results show that the cooperative learning model positively and significantly influences student learning outcomes. In addition, it was found that student learning motivation plays a role as a moderation variable that strengthens the impact of learning models on learning outcomes. In conclusion, using cooperative learning models effectively improves student learning outcomes, especially when combined with efforts to increase learning motivation. Students' motivation during history learning processes in the classroom is influenced, among other factors, by teachers' innovation in teaching. However, there are still teachers who lack innovation, resulting in decreased motivation for students to learn history. This study aims to develop and assess the feasibility of a product in the form of multimedia-based learning videos on the topic of Islamic Maritime Kingdoms, as well as to analyze its effectiveness in increasing the learning motivation of Grade XI Social Science students. The type of research used was research and development with ADDIE design. This study involved 2 experts, 2 teachers, and 75 students divided into 15 students for small-scale trials and 60 students for large-scale trials and extensive testing. Data collection was done through questionnaires using survey techniques and interviews. Data analysis techniques included quantitative and qualitative descriptive analysis, as well as descriptive statistics. The research results indicated that the product developed by the researcher was feasible for use as a learning media. Additionally, multimedia-based learning videos were also effective in increasing students' motivation to learn history. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aims to strengthen the empirical evidence by analyzing the communication process between early childhood education (ECE) teachers and children during the learning process. It also aims to explore how the process occurs and how children respond. This qualitative descriptive exploratory research utilizes the content analysis method. Purposive sampling was used to select five teachers, including the head teacher, and forty-seven children who participated in this study. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews and non-participant observations to explore communication practices in the teaching and learning process, from the teachers perspective. The results emphasizes the importance of bidirectional communication, tailored to individual children for optimal engagement. It also highlights the role of language use and non-verbal cues in effective pedagogy, while acknowledging the challenges of material relevance and language barriers. The study underscores the significance of multimodal pedagogy, and adaptive communication strategies to address disparities in children’s engagement levels and language challenges. It advocates for the continuous refinement of pedagogical techniques to enhance effective communication between teachers and children, a crucial element for the overall improvement of early childhood education quality. This study examined the validity and reliability of a newly developed multiple-choice evaluation system that measured students' higher-order thinking skills (HOTS). The instrument test consisted of 45 multiple-choice items and was developed based on the cognitive domain of Bloom's Taxonomy. A quantitative method was used. It consisted of three phases: Content Validity by inter-rater agreement, Construct Validity by principal component analysis (PCA), and Reliability shown by Chronbach's alpha. The content validity by inter-rater agreement found that the instrument was categorized as valid. The construct validity by PCA found that each item in the evaluation instrument measured one-dimensionality, which is good to be used as an evaluation instrument test. The reliability was established to be a high degree with Chronbach's Alpha being 0.94. From the result of this study, a valid and reliable HOTS multiple-choice item evaluation instrument has been produced and is ready to be tested in a small sample to examine its empirical quality.
