Siam Photon Source II (SPS-II), the new 3-GeV synchrotron light source project in Thailand, has been designed based on an accelerator system consisting of a 150-MeV injector linac, a full-energy booster synchrotron and a storage ring based on a Double Triple Bend Achromat (DTBA) lattice. A turn-key linac system has been used in an injection system of many synchrotron facilities, and thus it is considered for the SPS-II project. Preliminary beam dynamics simulation and optimization of the SPS-II linac are necessary for investigating achievable beam parameters which can be used for study of beam injection through a transfer line to the booster. Multi-objective optimization algorithm (MOGA) has been used in design and optimization of many accelerators including a linac system for synchrotron light sources, similar to the SPS-II linac. In order to provide synchrotron light with higher photon energy and more brilliant synchrotron light than that of the existing Siam Photon Source (SPS) machine, the possibility of constructing the new 3 GeV SPS-II has been proposed. For SPS-II, the synchrotron source with in-tunnel booster is a good candidate. The booster synchrotron has been designed in order to accelerate an electron beam of 150 MeV to 3 GeV before extracted to storage ring. For a clean injection in top-up operation, the aim in the design of the booster is to achieve the electron beam with a small emittance less than 10 nm-rad and to obtain a large dynamic aperture. At the Siam Photon Source (SPS) beam loss monitors based on PIN diode have been used. The existing system allow beam loss detection very locally at the monitor position close to the vacuum chamber. For optical fiber, Cherenkov radiation can be detected when a lost particle travel in the fiber. Thus optical fiber based loss monitor with sufficient length can cover parts of the machine conveniently. Fast beam loss event can be detected with more accurate position. In this paper, the design and result of the optical fiber based beam loss monitor system at SPS machine are discussed. Upon its completion, Siam Photon Source II (SPS-II) will be the first 4th generation synchrotron light source in Southeast Asia. The 3.0 GeV, 327.5 m storage ring based on the Double-Triple Bend Achromat lattice will have the natural emittance of 0.97 nm·rad. The storage ring includes 14 long and 14 short straight sections for insertion devices and machine subsys-tems. The beam injection will be performed by a 150 MeV linear accelerator and a full-energy concentric booster synchrotron sharing the same tunnel with the storage ring. In the first phase, there will be 7 insertion devices and 7 associated beamlines with the end sta-tions for different techniques utilizing synchrotron radiation from 80 eV to 60 keV. Design of the new 3-GeV synchrotron light source in Thailand, Siam Photon Source II (SPS-II), has been updated. The SPS-II accelerator complex consists of a 150-MeV injector linac, a 3-GeV booster synchrotron and a 3-GeV storage ring. The RF system of both storage ring and booster is based on a frequency of 119 MHz. In this paper, design considerations and specifications of the SPS-II injector linac are presented. A new insertion device, Superconducting Multipole Wiggler (SMPW) with the peak field strength of 3.5 T, was installed in the storage ring of Siam Photon Source as a radiation source for a new hard X-ray beamline. Cool-down process, as well as magnet training, was performed with careful tuning of liquid helium filling procedure for efficient management of liquid helium supply. The filling procedure was also optimized for safe operation of the magnet. The SMPW commission-ing was successfully carried out with electron beam and the effect of SMPW on electron beam dynamics was observed. A project on a 3.0 GeV Siam Photon Source II (SPS-II) has been started. The storage ring of SPS-II was designed to obtain an electron beam with a low-emittance below 1 nm-rad. The SPS-II injector mainly consists of a 150 MeV linac and a full-energy booster synchrotron. The booster synchrotron will be installed in the same tunnel as the storage ring, with a total circumference of 304.829 meters. The proposed lattice of the booster contains 40 modified FODO cells with combined function magnets. This lattice achieves a small beam emittance less than 10 nm-rad at 3 GeV, which can provide a high injection efficiency for top-up operation. The Beam Position Monitors (BPMs) for the new Thailand synchrotron light source, Siam Photon Source II (SPS-II), has been designed utilizing as the essential tool for diagnosing the position of the beam in the storage ring. Its design with four-button type BPM has been optimized to obtain the high precision of position data in normal closed orbit and feedback mode as well as turn by turn information. We calculate feedthroughs capacitance, sensitivities, induced power on a 50 ��� load, and intrinsic resolution by using Matlab GUI developed by ALBA, to find the appropriate position, thickness, and gap of the BPM button. The new Thailand synchrotron light source, Siam Photon Source II (SPS-II), has been designed based on a 3 GeV storage ring with a Double-Triple Bend Achromat (DTBA) lattice and a full energy injector linac. The linac consists of an S-band photocathode RF gun, C-band accelerating structures and two magnetic chicanes. In addition to its main function as the storage ring injector, the linac is capable of producing sub-picosecond electron bunches for additional short-pulse beamlines at the end of the linac. The linac also has a potential to become a driver of a soft X-ray Free Electron Laser (FEL) operating adjacent to the storage ring. In this paper, start-to-end simulations of the full energy linac are presented. The SPS-II is a 3 GeV ultralow emittance light source which is now under studied and designed by Thailand Synchrotron Light Research Institute (SLRI). The SPS-II storage ring is based on Double-Triple Bend Achromat (DTBA) cell with a circumference of 321.3 m aiming for horizontal emittance of less than 1 nm-rad. The compact lattice leaves narrow space for vacuum components. The small gap between poles of the magnets requires narrow vacuum chambers and limits the conductance of the chambers. The chambers will be made by stainless steel with a thickness of 1.5 mm. the cross section of beam duct is 40 mm × 16 mm elliptical shape. The bending chamber is designed as a long triangular chamber such that photon absorber can be installed as far from the light source as possible to lower the power density of the heat load. Siam Photon Source II project has been approved and detailed technical design of the accelerator system is currently in progress. The Double Triple Bend Achromat (DTBA) lattice is implemented in the storage ring design for low emittance and more space for insertion devices. Magnets with moderate to high field requirements have been designed, including combined function magnet with the field gradient of 27.1 T/m, quadrupole magnets with the field gradient up to 60 T/m and multifunction sextupole magnets. This work presents the magnet requirement and specification, design concept, recent simulation results and analysis of the magnetic field quality. Siam Photon Source II (SPS-II) project in Thailand is the third-generation synchrotron light source. The lattice of the 3 GeV electron storage ring has been designed, consisting of 14 Double Triple Bend Achromat (DTBA) cells with the total circumference of 321.3 m. The storage ring lattice includes 56 bending magnets, 28 combined dipole and quadrupole magnets, 224 quadrupole magnets and 84 multifunction sextupole magnets. This paper presents the design and construction of a sextupole magnet prototype for SPS-II project. Magnet prototype was designed with the magnetic field gradient of 2,030 T/m2 and includes functions of skew-quadrupole, horizontal and vertical correctors. The magnetic core is made of S10C low-carbon steel. A prototype of sextupole magnet has been constructed. All dimensional tolerances are within the range of ±20 µm., Proceedings of the 10th Int. Siam Photon Source (SPS), located at Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, is a synchrotron light source with the beam energy of 1.2 GeV. User operation is performed in beam decay mode with the maximum current of 150 mA. Beam lifetime is about 12 hours at the beam current of 100 mA. Beam injection is carried out twice a day, and even with full energy, it takes roughly 30 minutes. Beam lifetime in the SPS storage ring is limited by Touschek scattering and strongly depends on operation conditions. Higher harmonic RF cavity is a proven method to increase the beam lifetime and suppressing coupled bunch instabilities through Landau damping effect. If the beam lifetime is increased for examples, to be double, only one injection per day would be needed. In recent years the beam diagnostics and instrumenta-tion of Siam Photon Source (SPS), Thailand synchro-tron radiation facility, have been significantly improved for both the booster synchrotron and the 1.2 GeV stor-age ring. Additional diagnostics have been designed, fabricated, and installed, and the existing systems have been upgraded. This paper describes the current status of the beam diagnostics at SPS, as well as their respec-tive performances. These systems include beam posi-tion monitors (BPMs), a diagnostics beamline, beam loss monitors (BLMs), real-time tune measurement setups, and others. Apart from the instrument hardware, the acquisition electronics along with the processing software have been improved as well. Siam Photon Source (SPS) in Thailand has been operating and providing synchrotron radiation to users for more than a decade, leading to growing user community in South East Asia region. This gives rise to the possibility of constructing a new 3 GeV light source which could provide synchrotron light with higher photon energy and higher brilliance than the existing 1.2 GeV machine. Hybrid multi-bend achromat (HMBA) lattice design providing small natural beam emittance is a promising choice. In this paper, the Double-Triple Bend Achromat (DTBA) design with extra straight section scaled from Diamond Light Source upgrade lattice [ref.] is presented. Pulsed multipole magnet (PM) has zero magnetic field at the centre, therefore it introduces no perturbation to the stored beam. It has been demonstrated that this injection scheme is able to minimise the oscillation of the stored beam, and thus make it suitable for top-up operation. To investigate the suitability of employing this injection method at Siam Photon Source, PM was modelled and optimised for best performance using particle tracking based method. Siam Photon Source, the Thailand synchrotron light source, has received several upgrades in recent years. Most important of which are the improvement of the positional stability of the stored electron beam, and the installation of 2 IDs, i.e. a 2.2 T hybrid multipole wiggler and a 6.5 T superconducting wavelength shifter, to extend the available SR spectrum into hard x-ray region. The beam stability improvement was achieved through several activities, including improving the BPM system, upgrading the existing corrector power supplies, and implementing global orbit feedback. The two new IDs provide higher-intensity and higher-energy (up to 25 keV) synchrotron light, which will be utilized for MX, high-energy SAXS, WAXS, XAS, and microtomography. Ongoing machine upgrades include increasing the energy of the booster and transport line to 1.2 GeV for full-energy injection and eventual top-up operation. Utilization of the electron beam is also being explored. A beam test facility, which extracts electron beam in the booster for characterizing high-energy particle sensors, as well as calibrating other beam diagnostic instruments, has been constructed and is now in operation., Proceedings of the 8th Int. The new RF cavity system has been installed in the storage ring of SIAM Photon Source (SPS) since August 2016. The RF cavity was designed base on the MAX-IV laboratory capacitive loaded type cavity. The solid-state technology was implemented in the RF high power transmitter. The low-level RF system utilized the digital technology. The system has been successfully commissioned and run with a capability to compensate an energy lost from a full capacity run of insertion devices since August 2016. Optimisation of a particle accelerator with very limited diagnostic system is proved to be very challenging and complicated. Theoretical calculation and perfect machine model never guarantee the best solution in the actual machine. In this work, optimisation of injection system from Low energy Beam Transport line (LBT) to Siam Photon Source (SPS) storage ring and reduction of beam coupling employing Robust Conjugate Direction Search (RCDS) algorithm are demonstrated. Limitation of beam lifetime was systematically investigated and studied for Siam Photon Source (SPS) storage ring. The objective was to identify the main cause of the observed reduction of beam lifetime. The simulations of momentum acceptance and Touschek lifetime were performed, incorporating non-linear effects generated by the installed high-field insertion devices. The Touschek lifetime was measured as a function of RF voltage and compared with the values obtained from simulation. The measurements were performed for a variety of different operation conditions of the insertion devices and different chromaticities., Proceedings of the 8th Int. A new tune measurement system was recently developed and implemented at Siam Photon Source (SPS) for both the booster synchrotron and the 1.2 GeV electron storage ring. A new electronic module was installed at the SPS booster for collecting the turn-by-turn signal generated when the beam is excited with white noise and fast kicker. The beam excitation was carefully studied in order to determine the optimum beam response. With this system we observed the variation of the tune during energy ramping. The measurement provides information needed to optimise the working tune and to keep it constant. At the SPS storage ring, the excitation signal was changed from swept frequency signal to frequency modulation (FM) signal to reduce the measurement time. A description of the newly re-built beam loss monitor (BLM) system at the Siam Photon Source (SPS) is presented. The original BLM system was designed and installed in the 1.2 GeV SPS storage ring in 2005. The main problems of this system were poor performance due to RF electromagnetic interference and the use of now obsolete data acquisition electronics. The beam loss detector used is a PIN-diode type from Bergoz. The new BLM system has been implemented using low-noise coaxial cable and an acquisition system based on NI-PXI. To generate intense and high energy synchrotron radiation at the Siam Photon Source (SPS) 1.2 GeV storage ring, two insertion devices (IDs), namely, a 2.2 T hybrid multipole wiggler (MPW) and a 6.5 T superconducting wavelength shifter (SWLS), have been installed and operated since 2013. The angular kicks due to the nonlinear effects generated by the IDs represented by kick maps were used in our analysis. The optics distortion was compared to the ones obtained from calculation using hard-edge model and measurement results. In order to investigate the effects of IDs on the beam dynamics, Frequency Map Analysis (FMA) was employed. Nonlinear effects of insertion devices were studied for the Siam Photon Source (SPS) storage ring. Despite the fact that shimming technique was used to minimize the nonlinear components of magnetic field integral arising from random errors, the nonlinear dynamics effects still remain. It was found that calculated dynamic field integrals are largest in the 2.2 T Hybrid Multipole Wiggler (MPW). Dynamics effects of insertion devices are attributed to the wiggling trajectory of electron in the region of magnetic field roll-off due to finite pole width. For better and more effective operation of the SPS storage ring, multipole components of the dynamic field integral in the MPW have to be further reduced., Proceedings of the 7th Int. Beam Loss Monitoring (BLM) system is an essential tool for observing beam instabilities and hence for machine protection. At the Siam Photon Source (SPS) storage ring, the BLM system is used to check the beam behavior due to optics perturbation, ion trapping, and vacuum leakage. A network of 50 PIN-diode detectors from Bergoz has been installed around the ring at the positions of high particle density. These positions are at the values of large betatron and dispersion functions in the machine lattice. The operational results of tune scanning verses loss rate in the resonance diagram are described. A 2.4 T hybrid multipole wiggler (MPW) and a 6.5 T superconducting wavelength shifter (SWLS) have been successfully installed and commissioned at Siam Photon Source (SPS). The influence of the two insertion devices on the electron beam dynamic at different operating points have been studied in order to determine the optimal lattice configuration for operation. In this paper, the compensation of the linear optics will be presented, and the commissioning scheme will also be described. The design of smaller and less costly gantries for carbon ion particle therapy represents a major challenge to the diffusion of this treatment. Here we present the work done on the linear beam optics of possible gantry layouts, differing for geometry, momentum acceptance, and magnet technology, which share the use of combined function superconducting magnets with a bending field of 4T. We performed parallel-to-point and point-to-point optics matching at different magnification factors to provide two different beam sizes at the isocenter. Moreover, we considered the orbit distortion generated by magnet errors and we introduced beam position monitors and correctors. The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) is the world’s largest and most powerful particle accelerator colliding beams of protons and lead ions at energies up to 7 TeV and 2.76 TeV, respectively. ALICE is one of the detector experiments optimised for heavy-ion collisions. A fixed-target experiment in ALICE is considered to collide a portion of the beam halo, split using a bent crystal, with an internal target placed a few meters upstream of the detector. Fixed-target collisions offer many physics opportunities related to hadronic matter and the quark-gluon plasma to extend the research potential of the CERN accelerator complex. Production of physics events depends on the particle flux on target. The machine layout for the fixed-target experiment is being developed to provide a flux of particles on a target high enough to exploit the full capabilities of the ALICE detector acquisition system. The High Intensity Muon Beams (HIMB) project at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) will provide muon intensities of the order of 1e10 muons/s for particle physics and material science experiments, two orders of magnitude higher than the state of the art, which is currently available also at PSI. In particle transport simulations for the HIMB, we use G4beamline with measured pi+ cross-sections and with variance reduction. We also use the codes COSY INFINITY, TRANSPORT, and TURTLE for some studies. We perform asynchronous Bayesian optimisation of the beamlines on a computing cluster using G4beamline and the optimisation package DeepHyper. Nb₃Sn, NbTiN and NbN are superconductors with critical temperatures of 18.3, 12.6-17 and 11.6-17.5 K, respectively, these are higher than that of Nb at 9.3 K. Hence, at 4 K, they have an RF resistance, an order of magnitude lower than that of Nb, which leads to quality factors above those of Nb. In recent years, there has been an extensive effort converting Nb cavities into Nb₃Sn. Alloying the top inner layer of the cavity using Sn diffusion at a high temperature has had some degree of success, however, the reproducibility remains a major hindering and limiting factor. In this study, we report on the PVD deposition of NbTiN inside a 6 GHz cavity, using an external magnetic coil configuration. The deposition is done at an elevated temperature of about 650 C. We report on the superconducting properties, film structure and its stoichiometry and surface chemical state. The Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research FAIR, in Darmstadt Germany, will be one of the largest accelerator laboratories worldwide. The Superconducting FRagment Separator (Super-FRS)* is one of its main components. The Super-FRS can produce, separate and deliver high-energy radioactive beams with intensities up to 1e11 ions/s, covering projectiles from protons up to uranium and it can be used as an independent experimental device. The Gas Electron Multiplier-based Time Projection Chambers (GEM-TPC) in twin configuration is a newly developed beam tracking detector capable of providing spatial resolution of less than 1 mm with a tracking efficiency close to 100% at 1 MHz counting rate. The GEM-TPC (HGB4) was tested at the FRagment Separator (FRS), with 238U beam at 850 MeV/u. A new clusterization method was developed, for the first time and used for an analysis. This method allowed to access to waveforms of each strip signal within a single trigger in an event-by-event basis. In order to study the remaining open questions concerning CP violation and neutrino mass hierarchy, as well as to search for physics beyond the Standard Model, future experiments require precise measurements of the neutrino interaction cross-sections in the GeV/c regime. The absence of a precise knowledge of the neutrino flux currently limits this measurement to a 10-20% uncertainty level. The ENUBET project is proposing a novel facility, capable of constraining the neutrino flux normalization through the precise monitoring of kaon decay products in an instrumented decay tunnel. The collaboration has conducted numerous studies using a beam-line with a central Kaon momentum of 8.5 GeV/c and a ±10% momentum spread. We present here the design of a new beam-line, broadening the range of Kaons to include momenta of 4, 6, and 8.5 GeV/c, thus allowing ENUBET to explore cross-sections over a much larger energy range. In this contribution, we discuss the status of this design, the optimization studies performed, the early results, and the expected performance in terms of kaon and neutrino rates. We also present the first estimations of the background expected to be seen by the experiment.

The Next Ion Medical Machine Study (NIMMS) is an umbrella R programme for CERN accelerator technologies targeting advanced accelerator options for proton and light ion therapy. In collaboration with the European program HITRIplus, one area of study is slow extraction which is required to deliver a uniform beam spill for radiotherapy treatment. Several techniques use the third-order resonance to extract hadrons; these include betatron core driven extraction and radiofrequency knock-out. Flexible simulations tools using these techniques were prepared and initially benchmarked with results from the literature that used the Proton-Ion Medical Machine Study (PIMMS) design. European XFEL foresees a superconducting undulator (SCU) afterburner in the SASE2 hard X-ray beamline. It consists of six 5m-long undulator modules with a 5mm vacuum gap, where each module contains two 2m-long coils and one phase shifter. Prior to installation, the magnetic field must be mapped appropriately. Two magnetic measurement test stands named SUNDAE 1 and 2 (Superconducting UNDulAtor Experiment) are being developed at European XFEL. While SUNDAE1 will be a vertical test stand to measure SCU coils up to two meters with Hall probes in a liquid or superfluid helium bath, SUNDAE2 will measure the SCU coils assembled in the final cryostat. The Heavy Ion Therapy Research Integration plus (HITRIplus) is a European project that aims to integrate and propel research and technologies related to cancer treatment with heavy ions beams. Among the ambitious goals of the project, a specific work package includes the design of a gantry for carbon ions, based on superconducting magnets. The first milestone to achieve is the choice of the fundamental gantry parameters, namely the beam optics layout, the superconducting magnet technology, and the main user requirements. Starting from a reference 3T design, the collaboration widely explored dozens of possible gantry configurations at 4T, aiming to find the best compromise in terms of footprint, capital cost, and required R We present here a summary of these configurations, underlying the initial correlation between the beam optics, the mechanics, and the main superconducting dipoles design: the bending field (up to 4 T), combined function features (integrated quadrupole), magnet aperture (up to 90 mm), and angular length (30°-45°). A Physics Beyond Colliders (PBC) initiative was recently established at CERN to exploit the full scientific potential of its accelerator complex and scientific infrastructure to tackle fundamental open questions in particle physics through experiments complementary to those in current and future colliders. This initiative brings together similar studies to optimize resources globally in order to reach a common goal and promote scientific development efficiently. In this work, we present the work performed by the Conventional Beam Working Group (CBWG) and specifically from the Neutrino Beams (NB) subgroup. The subgroup currently deals with two novel neutrino-tagged beams projects, ENUBET and NUTAG, as well as with a more classic, low energy, beamline dedicated to hadron cross-sections for neutrino beams with the NA61 experiment already installed in the H₂ beamline of the CERN North Area.
