We present the atmospheric anomalies instigated through seismogenic sources by a multichannel observation using ground- and satellite-based systems. This study emphasizes the seismic event which happened on the east coast of Japan, near the Fukushima Prefecture on November 21, 2016 (in UTC), with a magnitude of 6.9 and a depth of 11.4 km. We mainly focus on the atmospheric and ionospheric irregularities via acoustic and electromagnetic channels originating from earthquakes in the process of the lithosphere, atmosphere, and ionospheric coupling (LAIC) mechanism. In the acoustic channel, we study the seismogenic atmospheric gravity wave (AGW) which perturbs the local lower atmosphere. The observation of nighttime fluctuations in the very low frequency (VLF) signals and total electron content (TEC) is used to investigate the atmospheric perturbation through the electromagnetic channel. For the ground-based observations, a VLF signal network consisting of 5 receivers in Japan is used to study by recording the VLF amplitude transmitted from the Japanese transmitter JJI (22.2 kHz). VLF nighttime fluctuation is used to check the unusualities due to the earthquake. Preseismic wavelike structures having periods of AGW are observed in the nighttime signal. Direct investigation of such AGWs is done by computing the potential energy related to AGW from the sounding of the atmosphere using broadband emission radiometry (SABER) temperature profiles mounted on the Thermosphere Ionosphere Mesosphere Energetics and Dynamics (TIMED) satellite. Ionospheric TEC inspection is done by using a ground-based global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receiver from the International GNSS Survey (IGS) station MIZU in Japan and observing anomalies in diurnal TEC around 6 and 10 days prior to the earthquake. We also obtain the wavelike structure of AGW from the small-scale fluctuation of TEC using wavelet analysis. All the parameters are found to be preseismic for this earthquake; the acoustics channel gives more consistent outcomes than the electromagnetic channel.

Here an LDH-derived microporous Fe@Ni3Se4 with enriched redox active Fe2+ ion is reported. The same has acquired 10 mA cm−2 current density with 185 and 33 mV of overpotential value in alkaline condition with high specific activity and durability.

Modulation of proteasome function by pharmacological interventions and molecular biology tools is an active area of research in cancer biology and neurodegenerative diseases. Curcumin (diferuloylmethane) is a naturally occurring polyphenol that affects multiple signaling pathways and known to modulate PKC activities. The therapeutic significance of curcumin is often considered to reside in its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-angiogenic, or anti-apoptotic properties. However, recent research suggests that the therapeutic efficacy of curcumin may be due to its activity as a potent inhibitor of the proteasome. In this study, we show that both curcumin and its synthetic polyphenolic derivative (didemethylcurcumin), CUIII modulated proteasome activity in a biphasic manner. Curcumin and CUIII increased proteasome activity at nanomolar concentrations but inhibited proteasome activity at micromolar concentrations. Curcumin was more effective than CUIII in relative proteasome activity increase at nanomolar concentrations. Also, curcumin was more effective than CUIII in relative proteasome activity inhibition at micromolar concentration. The docking study was conducted on the 20S proteasome catalytic subunit. Estimated Kd values for curcumin and didemethylcurcumin are 0.0054μM and 1.3167μM, respectively. These values correlate well with the results of the effectiveness of modulation by curcumin compare to CUIII. The small size of CUIII makes its dock to the narrow cavity of the active site, but the binding interaction is not strong compare to curcumin. This study suggests that curcumin and its didemethyl derivative can be used to modulate proteasome activity. This communication implicates the reason why curcumin and its didemethyl derivative can be used to two different disease mechanisms, neurodegeneration, and cancer.

Molecular catalysts for ammonia oxidation to dinitrogen represent enabling components to utilize ammonia as a fuel and/or source of hydrogen. Ammonia oxidation requires not only the breaking of multiple strong N-H bonds, but also controlled N-N bond formation. We report a novel β-diketiminato copper complex [iPr2NNF6]Cu-NH3 ([Cu(I)]-NH3 (2)) as a robust electrocatalyst for NH3 oxidation in acetonitrile under homogeneous conditions. Complex 2 operates at a moderate overpotential (700 mV) with a TOFmax = 940 h-1 as determined from CV data in 1.3 M NH3 MeCN solvent. Prolonged (>5 h) controlled potential electrolysis (CPE) reveals the stability and robustness of the catalyst under electrocatalytic conditions. Detailed mechanistic investigations indicate that electrochemical oxidation of [Cu(I)]-NH3 forms {[Cu(II)]-NH3}+ (4) which undergoes deprotonation by excess NH3 to form reactive copper(II)-amide [Cu(II)]-NH2 (6) unstable towards N-N bond formation to give the dinuclear hydrazine complex [Cu(I)]2(mu-N2H4). Electrochemical studies reveal that the bisammine complex [Cu(I)](NH3)2 (7) forms at high ammonia concentration as part of the {[Cu(II)](NH3)2}+/[Cu(I)](NH3)2 redox couple that is electrocatalytically inactive. DFT analysis reveals a much higher thermodynamic barrier for deprotonation of {[Cu(II)](NH3)2}+ (8) by NH3 to give the four-coordinate copper(II) amide [Cu(II)](NH2)(NH3) (9) (dG = 31.7 kcal/mol) as compared to deprotonation of the three coordinate {[Cu(II)]-NH3}+ by NH3 to provide the reactive three coordinate parent amide [Cu(II)]-NH2 (dG = 18.1 kcal/mol) susceptible to N-N coupling to form [Cu(I)]2(mu-N2H4) (dG = -11.8 kcal/mol).

Human health-related issues are increasing in day to day life because of the modern and unhygienic food lifestyles. In recent times, green tea (GT) gains more attention due to its numerous health benefits. It contains more biologically active compounds that improve mental health, increase metabolism, reduce cancer risks, and serve as an anti-aging agent for the brain. As it is globally consumed, the evaluation of the compounds present in it is very important. Hence, an attempt has been performed to evaluate these components in GT by using a cobalt nickel iron-based trimetallic zeolitic imidazolate framework as microfibers (CoNiFe-ZIF-MFs) synthesized via an electrospinning technique. Interestingly, the synthesized CoNiFe-ZIF-MFs catalyst simultaneously detects three major catechin (CT) groups, namely, epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), epicatechin (EC), and epicatechingallate (ECG). Further, the square wave voltammetry findings showed that there is a wide linear range of 50 ng to 1 mg for all the three CTs with LODs 45, 8, and 4 ng for EGCG, EC, and ECG, respectively. These results confirm the excellent sensing behavior of the composite toward GT extracts, proposing its practical utility in real-time compound analysis in food sectors. Other results like stability and reproducibility also promote its usage in the biomedical field. This study mainly focuses on the direct sensing of CTs present in GT without spiking any commercially purchased sample, and the sensing was performed simultaneously for all the three analytes; thus, this work gains novelty from the existing ones.

Due to demands for sustainability, the interest in energy storage devices constructed from green materials has increased immensely. These devices currently have yet to be satisfactory. Issues include high production costs and toxicity, limited dependability, and subpar electrochemical performance. In this research, low-cost, plant-based electroactive Cu3Mo2O9 materials were synthesized via co-precipitation followed by an annealing method using two different structure-directing agents, i.e., the commonly used surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and the biomolecule deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) as a greener alternative, and these materials were studied for the first time. Further, the Cu3Mo2O9 nanoparticles developed using CTAB and DNA were integrated into the lignin matrix and studied as flexible electrodes for supercapacitor application. Here, the morphological advantages of the nanorods and nanosheets formed by varying the synthesis methods and their effects during supercapacitor studies were studied in detail. After 1200 cycles, the Al/lig-Cu3Mo2O9@DNA supercapacitor exhibited higher capacitive performance when compared to the Al/lig-Cu3Mo2O9@CTAB supercapacitor. The Al/Lig-Cu3Mo2O9@DNA supercapacitor had an initial specific capacitance of 404.64 mF g−1 with a ~70% retention, while the Al/Lig-Cu3Mo2O9@CTAB supercapacitor had an initial specific capacitance of 309.59 mF g−1 with a ~50% retention. This study offers a new approach to creating scalable, low-cost, green composite CuMoO4-based electrodes for flexible supercapacitors.

Simple in situ formation of NiOOH over a GDL surface was studied for alkaline OER. Layered structure of NiOOH@GDL showed a low overpotential of 294 mV to reach 20 mA cm−2 with less resistance and ensures the high stability of 30 h in chronoamperometric studies.

The synthesis and characterization of isolable radicals of main-group elements have been a long-pursued quest. Although there has been considerable progress in this area, particularly in isolating carbon radicals, the isolation of radicals comprising heavier p-block elements is still scarce. Among heavier p-block elements, the radical chemistry involving silicon and phosphorus is explored considerably. This review focuses on isolable phosphorus-centered radicals. Most of the compounds described here have been characterized by single-crystal X-ray analysis and EPR spectroscopy. The cyclic voltammetry study revealed interesting redox chemistry for many of these compounds. Here, we described the synthesis and properties of the radicals and radical ions comprising the phosphorus center.

Oxygen vacancy assisted stabilization of Ru@NiV-LDH was achieved via wet chemical methods. Ru@NiV-LDH showed an excellent water splitting activity. DFT analysis confirmed the stabilization Ru NPs over the LDH surface by 3.8 ± 0.5 eV adsorption energy.

A post-synthetic technique, Solvent Assisted Ligand Incorporation (SALI), was used for thiol functionalization in the zirconium-based metal-organic framework NU-1000. This thiol-functionalized MOF was employed as a support for the growth of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) through coordination of a Ag(I) complex with a node-anchored thiol-ligand, followed by the reduction of Ag(I) to Ag(0). X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy revealed that the ratio of Ag(0) to Ag(I) proportionally increased with the loading of silver ions. The HER activity increased with the enhancement of Ag(0) in the system and the best efficiency was observed for the composite with ∼95% Ag(0). Spinel NiFe2O4-NFs and Pd–NiFe2O4-NFs were synthesised via an electrospinning (ES) method and the designed materials show excellent OER and HER activity, respectively. In full-cell studies, it requires a minimum cell voltage of 1.51 V @ 10 mA cm−2.
