Red ginger rhizome (Zingiber officinale var. Rubrum) and avocado leaves (Persea americana Mill.) are empirically known as one of the medicinal plants used in Taro Village, Gianyar Regency, Bali which have great potential in treating infectious diseases caused by antibiotic resistance, such as MRSA. This study aims to analyze the phytoconstituents and anti-MRSA potential contained in red ginger rhizome and avocado leaves extracts by assessing their inhibitory effects on three proteins related to MRSA resistance and virulence (PBAP2a, transglycosylase, and glycosyltransferase). Phytoconstituents of avocado leaf and red ginger extracts were analyzed using GC-MS. Molecular docking was performed in silico to determine the similarity properties of predicted drugs, bioactivity, toxicity, identification of active sites and validation of protein structures, and docking simulations were performed between compounds found in the extract and their target proteins. Phytoconstituent analysis revealed that avocado leaves and red ginger extracts as a whole have 43 types of compounds and 10 bioactive compounds each with beneficial drug-like properties. The compound 6,11-hexadecadien-1-ol from avocado leaves extracts was predicted to have hepatotoxic properties. There were at least 3 compounds, namely beta-bisabolene from avocado leaves extract, zingiberenol and gamma-curcumene from red ginger rhizome extract, showing the lowest binding affinity for the target protein. Red ginger rhizome and avocado leaves extracts showed valuable potential as anti-MRSA agents through the mechanism of inhibition of three resistance-related proteins, as predicted by in silico analysis. A possible alternative to reduce fuel consumption on a ship is through energy efficiency. For this purpose, a hydrofoil supported watercraft (hysuwac) utilizes two hydrofoils, one installed near the bow and the other near the stern of the catamaran, to reduce the vessel’s resistance. To investigate the effectiveness of the hydrofoils, CFD calculations were conducted in an earlier study. The purpose of this study is to provide experimental data to validate the CFD calculation results reported earlier for which towing tests were conducted at the Laboratory of Ship Hydrodynamics, ITS Surabaya, Indonesia. The ship model was made by using a three-dimensional print, which is then assembled into a ship model that meets the test requirements. The hydrofoil used has a NACA 641-212 section with an angle of attack of 4°. Twelve variations of towing tests were carried out with six variations of speed and two conditions, namely catamaran without and with foil system. A comparison between the CFD and experimental results shows that the CFD results are consistent with the experimental data. The minimum magnitude of percentage difference between the CFD results and experimental data is 1.14%, while the maximum magnitude of this is 16.79%. The observed difference is ascribed mainly to scale effects.

A new medication for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) called imeglimin can target all three organs involved in the pathogenesis of DM, namely the liver, skeletal muscles, and pancreas. This research seeks to examine the most efficacious and safe dose of imeglimin for the management of T2DM. Using particular keywords, we searched the CENTRAL, Medline, Scopus, and ClinicalTrials.gov databases for pertinent literature. The results of continuous variables were pooled into the mean difference (MD) and dichotomous variables into odds ratio (OR) along with their 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) using fixed-effect models. Our pooled analysis revealed that imeglimin 1000 mg twice daily [MD −0.90% p < 0.00001] and 1500 mg twice daily [MD −0.84% p = 0.0003] as monotherapy was associated with a higher reduction in the HbA1c compared to placebo. This superiority was still maintained when given as combination therapy. Regrettably, there was an observed escalation in gastrointestinal AEs as the dosage of imeglimin was raised, despite the absence of a corresponding improvement in its efficacy in decreasing HbA1c levels. Our study suggests that imeglimin 1000 mg twice daily may offer the most optimum therapeutic effects for glycemic control without compromising its safety profiles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Peripheral diabetic neuropathy (PDN) is among the most prevalent diabetes mellitus (DM) sequelae. PDN is a severe health issue that represents a huge social and economic burden worldwide, is associated with longterm morbidity, and diminishes the quality of life of those affected. The neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is a mixture of the two primary components of chronic inflammatory diseases (high neutrophils and low lymphocytes) that contribute to the production of PDN. This study aimed to demonstrate high serum NRL levels enhance the risk of PDN in type 2 DM patients. Materials and Methods: This study employed a case-control design, collecting data from the registers and outpatient medical records of Prof. Dr. IGNG Ngoerah General Hospital type 2 DM patients who satisfied the inclusion and exclusion criteria between January 2018 and December 2019. Based on clinical neuropathy and abnormal electrodiagnostic testing, the PDN diagnosis was established. Serum NLR was collected from laboratory tests recorded by a computer. Results: The Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve approach determined the NLR cut-off value of 2.18. High NLR substantially increased the incidence of PDN (OR 10.36; 95% CI 3.69-29.07; p=0.001). Other characteristics evaluated, including duration of diabetes, usage of anti-diabetic medications, uncontrolled diabetes, obesity, hypertension, and dyslipidemia, were not significantly associated with the incidence of PDN. High serum NLR was an independent risk factor for PDN in type 2 DM patients (adjusted OR=10.36; 95% CI: 3.57-29.07; p≤0.001). Conclusion: Based on the findings of this investigation, it was determined that elevated serum NLR increases the risk of PDN events in patients with type 2 DM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of the present study is to investigate submarine rudder stern-plane configuration to obtain optimum manoeuvring characteristics. Three configurations are investigated: +, x and y configuration. The equations of motions were derived with the external forces and moments consist of contributions due to the hydrostatics, hydrodynamics and propeller thrust. To obtain the hydrodynamic coefficients and the hydrodynamic derivatives, the lift and drag were calculated using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The equations of motions were numerically integrated using Eulerian method to obtain the turning circle. Results of the calculations show that the x-configuration gives the smallest tactical diameter, transfer and advance, which is considered as the most optimum rudder stern-plane configuration.
