Introduction: Poor prognosis and higher mortality of chronic kidney disease are linked with cultural beliefs and practices. This study explored cultural beliefs and practices of Javanese people with end-stage renal disease undergoing hemodialysis for ≥5 years. Methods: A qualitative narrative inquiry was applied in this study. Data were collected through in-depth narrative interviews, followed by text messages, calls, and audio-visual calls for 6 weeks. Results: There were 14 participants; their mean age was 51.15 years and hemodialysis duration was 5 years and 2 months up to 10 years and 9 months. Four themes emerged: life-and-death acceptance, expectation of end-of-life care, contemplation of withdrawal from hemodialysis, and wishing for a good death. Discussion: Life values guided the ability to survive for the individual. Adherence to renal disease management regimen clashed with cultural values on occasions, such as social gatherings. Therefore, the unmet needs of patients should be addressed with a transcultural approach to modify personal health behaviors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) represents a major cause of death and disability worldwide. Brain damage is associated with physical and psychological difficulties among TBI survivors. Diverse face-to-face and telehealth programs exist to help survivors cope with these burdens. However, the effectiveness of telehealth interventions among TBI survivors remains inconclusive. Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized control trials were conducted. Relevant full-text articles were retrieved from seven databases, from database inception to January 2022, including Academic Search Complete, CINAHL, EMBASE, Cochrane, MEDLINE, PubMed, and Web of Science. Bias was assessed with the revised Cochrane risk-of-bias tool for randomized trials. A meta-analysis was performed using a random-effects model to calculate the pooled effect size of telehealth interventions for TBI survivors. STATA 16.0 was used for statistical analysis. Results: In total, 17 studies (N = 3158) applying telehealth interventions among TBI survivors were included in the analysis. Telehealth interventions decreased neurobehavioural symptom (standardized mean difference: −0.13; 95% confidence interval [CI]: −0.36 to 0.10), reduce depression (standardized mean difference: −0.32; 95% CI: −0.79 to 0.14), and increase symptom management self-efficacy (standardized mean difference: 0.22; 95% CI: 0.02–0.42). Discussion: Telehealth interventions are promising avenues for healthcare delivery due to advances in technology and information. Telehealth programs may represent windows of opportunity, combining traditional treatment with rehabilitation to increase symptom management self-efficacy among TBI patients during recovery. Purpose: Nurses increasingly use mindfulness as an effective mental health intervention to reduce psychological distress. The effectiveness of mindfulness‐based interventions remains inconclusive, which may lead to implementation of interventions in an inefficient or ineffective manner. This study aimed to examine the effects of mindfulness‐based interventions on reducing stress, anxiety, and depression among nurses. Design: Systematic review and meta‐analysis. Methods: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were searched using six databases published through May 20, 2023, which evaluated the effects of mindfulness‐based interventions on reducing psychological distress among nurses. To assess the quality of methodology included in the RCTs, version 2 of the Cochrane risk‐of‐bias instrument for RCTs with five domains was used. Standardized mean difference (SMD) with 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated using the random–effects model in the meta‐analyses. Publication bias was assessed using Egger's regression test. Further, the robustness effect size of the pooled analysis was assessed using leave‐one‐out sensitivity analysis. Findings: A total of 16 RCTs were included in the final analysis. Overall, the modalities appeared to alleviate stress (pooled SMD: −0.50 [95% CI: −0.82 to −0.18]; p < 0.001) and depression (pooled SMD: −0.42 [95% CI: −0.78 to −0.06]; p = 0.02) among nurses. Conclusion: Mindfulness‐based interventions appear to alleviate stress and depression in nurses. Future research evaluating mindfulness‐based interventions among working nurses with more rigorous methodological and larger sample size. Larva therapy, also known as maggot therapy, biodebridement, or maggot debridement therapy, involved the application of live fly larva to a patient's wound for debridement, disinfection, and wound healing. Despite its wide application in diabetic foot ulcers, the efficacy of this intervention remains uncertain. This review aimed to examine the benefits of larva therapy in diabetic foot ulcers by conducting systematic review. This systematic review sought relevant articles using MeSH-based keywords in databases such as Scopus, PubMed, Science Direct, and ProQuest. The inclusion criteria for the articles were as follows: population - patients with diabetic foot ulcers, intervention - the use of debridement or therapeutic application of maggot therapy with Lucilia sericata, comparison - none, outcome - the results of articles demonstrating the effectiveness of using Lucilia sericata maggot therapy on diabetic foot ulcers. Article quality assessment was conducted using the Joanna Briggs Institute guidelines. Descriptive analysis was performed with a narrative approach, considering articles published from 2018 to 2023. Based on the literature search, 237 articles were found with matching keywords from Scopus (103), PubMed (77), Science Direct (14), and ProQuest (43). After screening for inclusion and exclusion criteria, 11 articles were identified for inclusion in this review. These 11 articles indicate that larva therapy can be an effective method in treating diabetic foot ulcers, especially when used correctly and tailored to each patient's condition and needs. Green bottle fly larva, Lucilia sericata, produce proteolytic enzymes that can assist in wound healing. Larva therapy is effective when combined with other procedures. In clinical practice, it is highly recommended that nurses provide an individualized approach and assess potential side effects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aims and objectives: To identify the efficacy of non‐pharmacological interventions designed to reduce pain in people with dementia. Background: Pain is prevalent among patients with dementia but frequently remains untreated. Although non‐pharmacological interventions have been used to reduce pain in people with dementia, the efficacy of these interventions for pain management in people with dementia has not been thoroughly synthesised. Design: Systematic review and meta‐analysis. Methods: The study was conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines and Cochrane criteria for systematic reviews. A comprehensive search was performed using the Academic Search Complete, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, MEDLINE, PubMed, OVID and Web of Science databases, from databases inception to 13 March 2022. The modified Cochrane risk‐of‐bias tool (ROB‐2) was used to evaluate the methodological quality of each included study. Standardised mean differences (SMDs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were synthesised using a random‐effects model to assess the efficacy of non‐pharmacological interventions for reducing pain in people with dementia (using Stata 16.0). Results: The final analysis assessed 12 studies, including 989 persons with dementia. Non‐pharmacological interventions were found to reduce pain in 4–8 weeks after the interventions (SMD: −0.32; 95% CI: −0.62 to −0.02). However, the effects of intervention frequency and patient age remain unknown. Conclusions: Non‐pharmacological interventions are effective for reducing pain in people with dementia. Further investigations remain necessary to explore the effectiveness of specific non‐pharmacological therapies for pain reduction in people with dementia (e.g. aromatherapy, play activity, singing or robotic care). Relevance to clinical practice: The findings of this study can guide healthcare practitioners when considering the use of non‐pharmacological pain management methods for people with dementia and may improve the implementation of these methods in clinical practice. Patient or public contributions: The study suggests non‐pharmacological interventions to reduce pain and underlines the relevance of health provider's viewpoints. Aims and objectives: The purpose of this study was to explore the self‐management of patients with early‐stage chronic kidney disease (CKD) and its influencing factors. Methods: A convenient sample of 226 patients with early‐stage CKD was recruited from 63 Public Health Centers in Indonesia, from June to September 2020. Demographic characteristics, health literacy, illness perception, self‐efficacy and self‐management were assessed using self‐reported questionnaires. Stepwise multiple linear regression analysis was performed to identify the factors influencing self‐management. This study adhered to the EQUATOR checklist, STROBE. Results: The mean estimated glomerular filtration rate was 63.45 ml/min/1.73 m2 (standard deviation [SD] = 15.34). The average scores for health literacy, illness perception, self‐efficacy and self‐management were 32.11 (SD = 4.46), 4.57 (SD = 1.46), 183.64 (SD = 38.23) and 76.92 (SD = 9.45), respectively. The influencing factors were education level, monthly income, family history of comorbidity, health literacy and self‐efficacy, which accounted for 45% of total self‐management score. Conclusions: Indonesian patients with early‐stage CKD showed low level of health literacy, but positive illness perception and self‐efficacy; these factors significantly affected CKD self‐management. Health literacy was found to influence all dimensions of self‐management: self‐integration, problem‐solving, seeking social support and adherence to the recommended regimen. Relevance to clinical practice: Adherence to the recommended regimen is the most challenging dimension of CKD self‐management. Health literacy was found to be a major determinant of self‐management. Improving health literacy and motivation of patients with early‐stage CKD may help sustain positive illness perception and self‐efficacy, and improve self‐management. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Best evidence to acclaim the reviewed effects, needs sufficient trials to support the linkage of incidents of adverse kidney function with the ingestion of the drink. This study aimed to conduct a review of current studies determining adverse kidney function caused by ingestion of energy-drink. Electronic academic database of Cochrane, PubMed, CINAHL, and MEDLINE were searched for relevant studies. A systematic review of English articles published from December 1988 to December 2020 was conducted. All study design was included. A Prisma-flow diagram was applied. Nutritional ingredients, clinical parameters from urine and blood reported kidney function were summarized. The outcomes were condensed into four main interests: ingredients of energy-drinks, intensity and duration of ingestion, and ethical issue. Stunting in infants is an indication of chronic malnutrition as a result of a bad condition that lasts long from birth. Stunting that occurs in the First 1000 Days of Life can increase mortality and impaired body functions. Malnutrition in toddlers can also arise due to the culture, habits, and social community related to food intake. Madura is known as a patriarchal society and considers culture as an identity in behavior, including health behavior. The purpose of this study was to analyze the incidence of stunting in children aged 24-59 months based on Transcultural Nursing. This research used a descriptive-analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The number of respondents was 97 mothers with children under five (24-59 months with a simple random sampling technique. The dependent variable of this study was the stunting event. The independent variable consisted of technological factors, family and social support, cultural values and lifestyle, economy, and mother's education. Data collection using microtome and questionnaires and analyzed using chi-square statistical tests with significance level a <0.05. There was a relationship between technological factors (p=0.045), family and social support factors (p=0.048), cultural values & lifestyle (p=0.013), and economic factors (p=0.034) with the incidence of stunting in infants. Future studies are recommended to conduct further research on transcultural nursing-based interventions as an early effort to prevent and manage stunting in mother's economy and education. The interest of a profession will motivate students to apply for any job. The attention to work abroad is occurred because of the push and pull factors such as better income, the raising of work conditions, and higher living standards. This study used a descriptive approach and involved 88 respondents in the Nursing Academy of the Polytechnic of the Ministry of Health, Mataram, by total sampling. Data were analyzed with SPSS using the Spearman Rho test with a significant value α <0.05. The result of this study shows that there were a meaningful relationship between individual encouragement, social and emotional motives with the interest of students to work abroad. This study can be useful for respondents, candidates of job applicants, and future researchers as one of the references in determining the interest to work abroad. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Person-centered care emphasizes the importance of valuing and supporting the humanness of a person living with dementia as compared to focusing heavily on disease symptom management and treatment. The state of the evidence and outcomes from person-centered care is unclear and is an important knowledge gap to address informed evidence-based care for persons living with dementia., Aims: To synthesize the evidence on the efficacy of person-centered care in improving health outcomes in people living with dementia., Methods: Our search using the following databases: Academic Search Complete, CINAHL, COCHRANE library, EMBASE, MEDLINE, PubMed, and Google Scholar. The methodology quality of the included studies was assessed using a revised Cochrane risk-of-bias tool for randomized trials. Meta-analyses were performed using the DerSimonian and Laird random effects model to investigate the effectiveness of person-centered care on improving health outcomes in persons living with dementia., Results: Seventeen trials were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis. Person-centered care implementation was found to improve cognitive function (pooled SMD: 0.22; 9CRD420223808975% CI [0.04, 0.41], p = .02) in persons living with dementia, although outcomes including the impact of the care model on activities of daily living, agitation, depression, and quality of life remain inconclusive., Linking Evidence to Action: Person-centered care improves the cognitive function of persons living with dementia, which is clinically meaningful and should not be ignored or overlooked in delivering evidence-based care to this population. The findings of this study emphasize the importance of person-centered care implementation among people living with dementia as an approach in improving health outcomes particularly on cognitive function improvement. Background: Nurses' primary role in clinical settings for persons living with dementia is to lessen the strain of dementia on daily life, monitor comorbidities, and manage medications. However, no comprehensive literature review has investigated the effectiveness of nurse-led interventions for persons living with dementia., Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate randomized controlled trials on the efficacy of nurse-led dementia interventions and provide an extended range of outcomes related to cognitive function, depression, and quality of life., Methods: A comprehensive literature search of six databases was conducted from database inception to August 10, 2022. Methodologies were evaluated, followed by a pooled analysis using random effects models to explain the effects of nurse-led dementia interventions on patients., Results: Nurse-led interventions were more effective than standard care in alleviating depression and improving quality of life. However, they did not enhance cognitive performance., Discussion: Nurse-led interventions for dementia alleviate depression and improve quality of life. However, because of lack of randomized controlled trials, the analysis found less effectiveness in improving cognitive function.
