Goals: We aimed to evaluate the palliative care quality for terminal cancer patients as a reference for prospective service improvements.Patients and Methods: A prospective study was conducted to analyze the quality audit data collected from 1,476 samples in one medical center's palliative care unit. Lai's modified version of the support team assessment schedule was utilized for 2-year data collection, applying 17 categories of audit criteria rated on a scale of 0 to 4 (0-no symptoms, 4-significant symptoms). The quality audit criteria were scored weekly for 2 weeks following patient admission.Results: Average scores of quality audit criteria from admission to week 2 were 10.05, 8.85, and 8.49, respectively, with statistical differences noted weekly. Efficacy of palliative care was most evident 2 weeks after hospitalization. Factors with statistically significant differences between admission and week 1 included: pain control, constipation, vomiting, anorexia, other symptom control, patient anxiety, self awareness and preparation of patient for illness, self awareness and preparation of family for illness, and satisfaction of patient's spiritual belief and life philosophy. Factors with statistically significant differences between weeks 1 and 2 included: pain control, other symptom control, self awareness and preparation of family for illness, and satisfaction of patient's spiritual belief and life philosophy.Conclusions: Patients in hospice care received adequate symptom relief. Total quality audit scores declined progressively over the 2 weeks following patient admission, indicating efficacy of palliative care quality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The advent of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) has been altering the Higher Education landscape in recent years. This kind of courses are penetrating in an increasing number of universities, the majority of which do not seem to have intentions to stop offering them in the short term. Such courses are generating new educational scenarios to which universities have to adapt, which creates a set of challenges and opportunities, most of them related to the use of technology in education. This study aims to shed light on such challenges and opportunities when a university employs postgraduate students as MOOC mentors.For this study, a set of focus group interviews were conducted in an English university to PhD students in various disciplines. In the interviews, participants share their experiences as mentors, especially regarding how they developed certain teaching and digital skills, and how they faced certain challenges related to their digital identity.The results suggest that participating in MOOCs as mentors can help early career researchers to develop certain teaching, digital, and academic skills that could be beneficial for the institutions they work for, and for themselves. However, their online exposure sometimes raises certain implications for their public image, their working conditions, and their online professional identity.

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) are frequently portrayed as “agents of change” in higher education (HE), impacting on institutional practices, processes and structures throughout HE. However, these courses do not “fit” neatly with the established aims and functions of universities, and accounts of technology-led change in universities predominate, simplistically emphasising technologically determinist narratives with incidental social effects. This study aims to explore the consequences of introducing these courses into HE in terms of the roles of educators, learning designers and the socio-technical construction of MOOCs. The research takes a socio-technical perspective, combining the established analytical strategy of Socio-Technical Interaction Networks (STIN) with the social theoretical ‘third space’ framework of HE activity. The paper reports on the first of three institutional cases studies, finding that learning designers occupy a hub-like position in the networks of actors involved in MOOC development within an emergent ‘third space’ between academic and managerial roles. The analysis also reveals how the massive and open elements of these courses elicit involvement of seemingly peripheral actors, who exert a strong influence on course production processes and content, with educators taking a less central role. This work adds a socio-technical element to understandings of third space activity in higher education, and can inform the planning and development of online education projects in accounting for changing roles in HE where massiveness and openness are combined in a course.

Introduction: The competition between intra-row weeds and cultivated vegetables for nutrients is a major contributor for crop yield reduction. Compared with manual weeding, intelligent robots can improve the efficiency of weeding operations., Methods: This study proposed a novel mechanical-laser collaborative intra-row weeding device structure. A slider-crank mechanism size optimization algorithm was proposed, and the correctness of the algorithm was verified by ADMAS software. Finally, the crank and link lengths were determined to be 87 mm and 135 mm, respectively. The resistance of triangular weeding knives with different penetration angles and edge angles in the soil was simulated and analyzed using EDEM software. The simulation results show that the triangular weeding knife with a soil penetration angle of 0 ° and an edge angle of 30 ° encountered the least resistance. In addition, weed control experiments with different powers and lasers were conducted using 200 W NIR and 200 W blue lasers. The experimental results show that the time it took for a 50 W blue laser and a 100 W NIR laser to remove small weeds was approximately between 0.3 and 0.4 s, and the time it took for a 50 W blue laser to remove larger weeds was approximately between 0.5 and 0.6 s. The time it took for 75 W and 50 W NIR lasers to remove weeds was more than 1 s., Results: Based on the above research results, a prototype of a mechanical-laser collaborative intra-row weeding device was successfully built., Discussion: This study provides a new idea for the field of intelligent weeding. The global food market's escalating volatility has led to a complex network of uncertainty and risk transmission across different grain markets. This study utilizes the Time-Varying Parameter Vector Autoregression (TVP-VAR)-Connectedness approach to analyze the price transmission and volatility dynamics of key grains, including wheat, maize, rice, barley, peanut, soybean, and soybean meal, and their dynamic spillover directions, intensity, and network. By integrating the TVP-VAR-Connectedness model, this research captures the time-varying variability and interconnected nature of global grain price movements. The main findings reveal significant spillover effects, particularly in corn prices, with prices of soybean dominating other grains while prices of peanut and corn experience higher external spillover effects from other grains. The conclusions drawn underscore the imperative for policymakers to consider a holistic perspective of all types of grains when addressing global food security, with this study providing valuable insights for risk management in the grain sector at both global level and country level., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflicts of interest.

The primary treatment for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is radiotherapy. In rare cases, patients with NPC treated with radiotherapy may develop radiation-induced sarcoma (RIS), a malignant tumor, in the field of previous radiation. The prognosis is poor, and complete surgical resection is the only potentially curative treatment. The automated collection of plant phenotypic information has become a trend in breeding and smart agriculture. Four YOLOv8-based models were used to segment mature soybean plants placed in a simple background in a laboratory environment, identify pods, distinguish the number of soybeans in each pod, and obtain soybean phenotypes. The YOLOv8-Repvit model yielded the most optimal recognition results, with an R2 coefficient value of 0.96 for both pods and beans, and the RMSE values were 2.89 and 6.90, respectively. Moreover, a novel algorithm was devised to efficiently differentiate between the main stem and branches of soybean plants, called the midpoint coordinate algorithm (MCA). This was accomplished by linking the white pixels representing the stems in each column of the binary image to draw curves that represent the plant structure. The proposed method reduces computational time and spatial complexity in comparison to the A* algorithm, thereby providing an efficient and accurate approach for measuring the phenotypic characteristics of soybean plants. This research lays a technical foundation for obtaining the phenotypic data of densely overlapped and partitioned mature soybean plants under field conditions at harvest.

Conventional herbicide formulations suffer from serious problems such as easy drift, run-off and scouring into the environment, which pose enormous threats to human health and environmental safety. Herein, an innovative strategy is proposed to prepare oil-in-water nanoemulsions with long-term stability, enhanced droplet deposition, and improved nanoherbicide adhesion via steerable interfacial assembly of 1D amyloid-like protein nanocomposites. Bovine serum albumin (BSA) undergoes rapid amyloid-like aggregation upon reduction of its disulfide bond. The resulting phase-transitioned BSA (PTB) oligomers instantly self-assemble on the surface of cellulose nanofibers (CNF) to form the 1D PTB/CNF nanocomposites, which greatly expands the parameter space for interfacial assembly of amyloid-like proteins. The PTB/CNF nanocomposites exhibit excellent interfacial activity, enabling spontaneous adsorption at the oil-water interface to stabilize nanoemulsion. The excess PTB/CNF nanocomposites would also self-assemble at the air-aqueous interface upon spraying, resulting in efficient droplet deposition on (super)hydrophobic leaves. The deposited nanoherbicides show excellent resistance to wind/rain corrosion due to the robust amyloid-mediated adhesion, with a retention rate of more than 80% after severe scouring. Consequently, herbicide applications can be reduced by at least 30% compared to commercial emulsifiable concentrates, showing greater herbicidal efficiency. The prevalence of overweight and obesity is increasing, leading to metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) characterized by excessive accumulation of liver fat and a risk of developing hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The driver gene mutations may play the roles of passengers that occur in single 'hotspots' and can promote tumorigenesis from benign to malignant lesions. We investigated the impact of high body weight and BMI on HCC survival using The Cancer Genome Atlas Liver Hepatocellular Carcinoma (TCGA-LIHC) dataset. To explore the effects of obesity-related gene mutations on HCC, we collected driver mutation genes in 34 TCGA patients with BMI ≥ 27 and 23 TCGA patients with BMI < 27. The digital PCR performing the PBMC samples for the variant rate by clinical cohort of 96 NAFLD patients. Our analysis showed that obesity leads to significantly worse survival outcomes in HCC. Using cbioportal, we identified 414 driver mutation genes in patients with obesity and 127 driver mutation genes in non-obese patients. Functional analysis showed that obese-related genes significantly enriched the regulated lipid and insulin pathways in HCC. The insulin secretion pathway in patients with obesity HCC-specific survival identified ABCC8 and PRKCB as significant genes (p < 0.001). It revealed significant differences in gene mutation and gene expression profiles compared to non-obese patients. The digital PCR test ABCC8 variants were detected in PBMC samples and caused a 14.5% variant rate, significantly higher than that of non-obese NAFLD patients. The study findings showed that the gene ABCC8 was a patient with the obesity-related gene in NAFLD, which provides the probability that ABCC8 mutation contributes to the pre-cancer lesion biomarker for HCC., (© 2024. Background: Clinical evidence for the rapidity and effectiveness of fentanyl buccal soluble film (FBSF) in reducing pain intensity of breakthrough cancer pain (BTcP) remains inadequate. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of FBSF proportional to the around-the-clock (ATC) opioid regimens in rapidly relieving the intensity of BTcP episodes by determining the percentage of patients requiring further dose titration., Methods: The study procedure included a dose-finding period followed by a 14-day observation period. Pain intensity was recorded with a Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) at onset and 5, 10, 15, and 30 min after FBSF self-administration. Meaningful pain relief was defined as the final NRS score ≤ 3. Satisfaction survey was conducted for each patient after treatment using the Global Satisfaction Scale., Results: A total of 63 BTcP episodes occurred in 30 cancer patients. Only one patient required rescue medication at first BTcP episode and then achieved meaningful pain relief after titrating FBSF by 200 µg. Most BTcP episodes relieved within 10 min. Of 63 BTcP episodes, 30 (47.6%), 46 (73.0%), and 53 (84.1%) relieved within 5, 10, and 15 min after FBSF administration. Only grade 1/2 adverse events were reported, including somnolence, malaise, and dizziness. The classification of Stropharia rugoso-annulata is currently reliant on manual sorting, which may be subject to bias. To improve the sorting efficiency, automated sorting equipment could be used instead. However, sorting naked mushrooms in real time remains a challenging task due to the difficulty of accurately identifying, locating and sorting large quantities of them simultaneously. Models must be deployable on resource-limited devices, making it challenging to achieve both a high accuracy and speed. This paper proposes the APHS-YOLO (YOLOv8n integrated with AKConv, CSPPC and HSFPN modules) model, which is lightweight and efficient, for identifying Stropharia rugoso-annulata of different grades and seasons. This study includes a complete dataset of runners of different grades in spring and autumn. To enhance feature extraction and maintain the recognition accuracy, the new multi-module APHS-YOLO uses HSFPNs (High-Level Screening Feature Pyramid Networks) as a thin-neck structure. It combines an improved lightweight PConv (Partial Convolution)-based convolutional module, CSPPC (Integration of Cross-Stage Partial Networks and Partial Convolution), with the Arbitrary Kernel Convolution (AKConv) module. Additionally, to compensate for the accuracy loss due to lightweighting, APHS-YOLO employs a knowledge refinement technique during training. Compared to the original model, the optimized APHS-YOLO model uses 57.8% less memory and 62.5% fewer computational resources. It has an FPS (frames per second) of over 100 and even achieves 0.1% better accuracy metrics than the original model. Soybean is grown worldwide for its high protein and oil content. Weeds compete fiercely for resources, which affects soybean yields. Because of the progressive enhancement of weed resistance to herbicides and the quickly increasing cost of manual weeding, mechanical weed control is becoming the preferred method of weed control. Mechanical weed control finds it difficult to remove intra-row weeds due to the lack of rapid and precise weed/soybean detection and location technology. Rhodamine B (Rh-B) is a systemic crop compound that can be absorbed by soybeans which fluoresces under a specific excitation light. The purpose of this study is to combine systemic crop compounds and computer vision technology for the identification and localization of soybeans in the field. The fluorescence distribution properties of systemic crop compounds in soybeans and their effects on plant growth were explored. The fluorescence was mainly concentrated in soybean cotyledons treated with Rh-B. After a comparison of soybean seedlings treated with nine groups of rhodamine B solutions at different concentrations ranging from 0 to 1440 ppm, the soybeans treated with 180 ppm Rh-B for 24 h received the recommended dosage, resulting in significant fluorescence that did not affect crop growth. Increasing the Rh-B solutions reduced crop biomass, while prolonged treatment times reduced seed germination. The fluorescence produced lasted for 20 days, ensuring a stable signal in the early stages of growth. Additionally, a precise inter-row soybean plant location system based on a fluorescence imaging system with a 96.7% identification accuracy, determined on 300 datasets, was proposed. This article further confirms the potential of crop signaling technology to assist machines in achieving crop identification and localization in the field.

Purpose: Lymphadenopathy (LAP) is a common problem in the pediatric patient. History, physical examinations (PE), ultrasounds, and blood tests were often obtained while studying such lesions. Malignancy should be highly suspected in certain conditions. This study evaluates the relationship between malignant LAP and risk factors for pediatric patients., Materials and Methods: Medical records of matched patients are reviewed, and data are retrospectively collected. History, PE findings, laboratory data, ultrasound findings, and pathological findings were recorded and analyzed. The median values (interquartile range, IQR) were expressed for continuous variables, and the number of patients (percentage) for categorical variables. Comparisons between groups were performed using the Mann-Whitney U test and the chi-squared test. The significance was set as p value < 0.05., Results: A total of 142 pediatric patients underwent a biopsy in our department for LAP from July 2004 to August 2021. Among them, 108 (76.1 %) patients had benign lesions, and 34 (23.9 %) had malignancies. Weight loss, fixed LAP, firm consistency, and serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) exceeding 240 U/L were more related to malignant LAP than other risk factors. Multiple regression analysis revealed two independent risk factors. The receiver operating characteristic curve regarding LDH level predicting malignancy revealed a sensitivity of 79.31 % and specificity of 36.51 % by applying the criterion as 230 U/L., Conclusions: For pediatric LAP, history-taking and physical examinations remained the most important approaches. Ultrasounds, serum LDH, and other laboratory studies may only provide clues. The cutoff level of LDH revealed low sensitivity and specificity for malignant LAP. To accurately estimate the age of individual tree and to achieve full-cycle sustainable management of natural Larix gmelinii forest in Great Xing'an Mountains of northeastern China, we constructed individual tree age prediction model using stepwise regression and random forest algorithms based on 44 fixed plots data and 280 stan-dard tree cores obtained from the Pangu Forest Farm. We analyzed the influence of stand structure, site conditions, and competition index on the accuracy of model prediction. The model was evaluated by the coefficient of determination ( R 2 ), root mean square error (RMSE), and mean absolute error (MAE). The results showed that the random forest model had the highest prediction accuracy when number of decision trees was 1500 and number of node con-tention variables was 8. The random forest model had better accuracy and prediction ability than the stepwise regression model, with R 2 , RMSE and MAE of 0.5882, 9.9259 a, 8.1155 a. Diameter at breast height was the most important factor affecting age prediction (83.8%), followed by tree height (34.4%), elevation (17.9%), and basal area per hectare (17.5%). The random forest algorithm exhibited better adaptability and modeling effect on constructing a predictive model for individual tree age. This research contributed to improving the accuracy of growth and harvest estimation for L. gmelinii , and could provide a reference for other scientific studies related to tree age estimation in forests.

Smart city is an area where the Internet of things is used effectively with sensors. The data used by smart city can be collected through the cameras, sensors etc. Intelligent video surveillance (IVS) systems integrate multiple networked cameras for automatic surveillance purposes. Such systems can analyze and monitor video data and perform automatic functions required by users. This study performed main path analysis (MPA) to explore the development trends of IVS research. First, relevant articles were retrieved from the Web of Science database. Next, MPA was performed to analyze development trends in relevant research, and g-index and h-index values were analyzed to identify influential journals. Cluster analysis was then performed to group similar articles, and Wordle was used to display the key words of each group in word clouds. These key words served as the basis for naming their corresponding groups. Data mining and statistical analysis yielded six major IVS research topics, namely video cameras, background modeling, closed-circuit television, multiple cameras, person reidentification, and privacy, security, and protection. These topics can boost the future innovation and development of IVS technology and contribute to smart transportation, smart city, and other applications. According to the study results, predictions were made regarding developments in IVS research to provide recommendations for future research.

Background: With the widespread use of abdominal ultrasonography (US), incidental detection of common bile duct (CBD) dilatation is common in pediatric populations. This study investigated the causes and clinical significance of CBD dilatation in children without biliary symptoms, jaundice, or causative lesions in US., Methods: We retrospectively reviewed pediatric patients with CBD dilatation from July 2013 to June 2023. All cases were detected via abdominal US. We analyzed the patients' clinical manifestations, laboratory data, diagnosis, underlying diseases, and clinical course., Results: In a total of 687 patients enrolled, 338 met inclusion criteria (90 in hepatobiliary, 248 in CBD dilatation group). Of 128 patients with incidental CBD dilatation who underwent regular US examinations, 91 (71.1%) experienced resolution during follow-up. The proportion of patients with intrahepatic duct dilatation was significantly higher in the non-resolution group (p = 0.038). General health examination group had significant smaller CBD diameter compared to the gastrointestinal and infection groups. Correlation analysis found starting point of resolution decline at 3.24 mm (all-inclusive) and 2.51 mm (infant group) CBD diameter., Conclusions: Most children with incidental CBD dilatation did not have abnormal hepatobiliary function or other sonographic abnormalities. Background: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play a crucial role in gene expression and regulation, with dysregulation of miRNA function linked to various diseases, including hepatitis C virus (HCV)-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). There is still a gap in understanding the regulatory relationship between miRNAs and mRNAs in HCV-HCC. This study aimed to investigate the function and effects of persistent HCV-induced miRNA expression on gene regulation in HCC., Methods: MiRNA array data were used to identify differentially expressed miRNAs and their targets, and miRNAs were analyzed via DIANA for KEGG pathways, gene ontology (GO) functional enrichment, and Ingenuity Pathways Analysis (IPA) for hepatotoxicity, canonical pathways, associated network functions, and interactive networks., Results: Seventeen miRNAs in L-HCV and 9 miRNAs in S-HCV were differentially expressed, and 5 miRNAs in L-HCV and 5 miRNAs in S-HCV were significantly expressed in liver hepatocellular carcinoma (LIHC) tumors. Grouped miRNA survival analysis showed that L-HCV miRNAs were associated with survival in LIHC, and miRNA‒mRNA targets regulated viral carcinogenesis and cell cycle alteration through cancer pathways in LIHC. MiRNA-regulated RCN1 was suppressed through miRNA-oncogene interactions, and suppression of RCN1 inhibited invasion and migration in HCC., Conclusion: Persistent HCV infection induced the expression of miRNAs that act as tumor suppressors by inhibiting oncogenes in HCC. RCN1 was suppressed while miRNAs were upregulated, demonstrating an inverse relationship. Apple trees face various challenges during cultivation. Apple leaves, as the key part of the apple tree for photosynthesis, occupy most of the area of the tree. Diseases of the leaves can hinder the healthy growth of trees and cause huge economic losses to fruit growers. The prerequisite for precise control of apple leaf diseases is the timely and accurate detection of different diseases on apple leaves. Traditional methods relying on manual detection have problems such as limited accuracy and slow speed. In this study, both the attention mechanism and the module containing the transformer encoder were innovatively introduced into YOLOV5, resulting in YOLOV5-CBAM-C3TR for apple leaf disease detection. The datasets used in this experiment were uniformly RGB images. To better evaluate the effectiveness of YOLOV5-CBAM-C3TR, the model was compared with different target detection models such as SSD, YOLOV3, YOLOV4, and YOLOV5. The results showed that YOLOV5-CBAM-C3TR achieved mAP@0.5, precision, and recall of 73.4%, 70.9%, and 69.5% for three apple leaf diseases including Alternaria blotch, Grey spot, and Rust. Compared with the original model YOLOV5, the mAP 0.5increased by 8.25% with a small change in the number of parameters. In addition, YOLOV5-CBAM-C3TR can achieve an average accuracy of 92.4% in detecting 208 randomly selected apple leaf disease samples. Notably, YOLOV5-CBAM-C3TR achieved 93.1% and 89.6% accuracy in detecting two very similar diseases including Alternaria Blotch and Grey Spot, respectively. Brain cancer is a deadly disease with low survival rates for over 70 % of patients. Therefore, there is a critical need to develop better treatment methods and strategies to improve patient outcomes. In this study, we explored the tumor microenvironment and discovered unique characteristics of microglia to interact with astrocytoma cells and promote proliferation and migration of collisions. The conditioned medium from the collisions expressed cell chemoattraction and anti-inflammatory responses. To further understand the interactions between microglia and astrocytoma cells, we used flow sorting and protein analysis found that the protein alterations were related to biogenesis in the astrocytoma cells and metabolic processes in the microglia. Both types of cells were involved in binding and activity in cell-cell interactions. Using STRING to demonstrate the protein cross-interaction between the cells. Furthermore, PHB and RDX interact with oncogenic proteins, which were significantly expressed in patients with Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) and low-grade glioma (LGG) according to GEPIA. To study the role of RDX in chemoattraction, the inhibitor-NSC668394 suppressed collision formation and migration in BV2 cells in vitro by down-regulating F-actin. Soil aggregates are the main sites for the decomposition of soil organic matter and the formation of humus. The composition characteristics of aggregates with different particle sizes are one of the indicators for soil fertility. We explored the effects of management intensity (frequency of fertilization and reclamation) on soil aggregates in moso bamboo forests, including mid-intensity management (T 1 , fertilization and reclamation every 4 years), high-intensity management (T 2 , fertilization and reclamation every 2 years), and extensive management (CK). The water-stable soil aggregates (0-10, 10-20, and 20-30 cm layers) from moso bamboo forest were separated by a combination of dry and wet sieving method and the distribution of soil organic carbon (SOC), total nitrogen (TN) and available phosphorus (AP) across different soil layers were determined. The results showed that management intensities had significant effects on soil aggregate composition and stability, and SOC, TN, AP distribution of moso bamboo forests. Compared with CK, T 1 and T 2 decreased the proportion and stability of macroaggregates in 0-10 cm soil layer, but increased that in 20-30 cm soil layer, while reduced the content of organic carbon in macroaggregates, the contents of organic carbon, TN and AP in microaggregates. Such results indicated that the intensified management was not conducive to formation of macroaggregates in 0-10 cm soil layer and carbon sequestration in macroaggregates. It was beneficial to the accumulation of organic carbon in soil aggregates and nitrogen and phosphorus in microaggregates with lower human disturbance. Mass fraction of macroaggregates and organic carbon content of macroaggregates was significantly positively correlated with aggregate stability, which best explained the variations of aggregate stability. Therefore, macroaggregates and organic carbon content of macroaggregates were the most important factors affecting the formation and stability of aggregates. Appropriate reduction of disturbance was beneficial to the accumulation of macroaggregates in the topsoil, the sequestration of organic carbon by macro-aggregates, and the sequestration of TN and AP by microaggregates, and improving soil quality and sustainable management in moso bamboo forest from the point of view of soil aggregate stability.

Tomato is a globally grown vegetable crop with high economic and nutritional values. Tomato production is being threatened by weeds. This effect is more pronounced in the early stages of tomato plant growth. Thus weed management in the early stages of tomato plant growth is very critical. The increasing labor cost of manual weeding and the negative impact on human health and the environment caused by the overuse of herbicides are driving the development of smart weeders. The core task that needs to be addressed in developing a smart weeder is to accurately distinguish vegetable crops from weeds in real time. In this study, a new approach is proposed to locate tomato and pakchoi plants in real time based on an integrated sensing system consisting of camera and color mark sensors. The selection scheme of reference, color, area, and category of plant labels for sensor identification was examined. The impact of the number of sensors and the size of the signal tolerance region on the system recognition accuracy was also evaluated. The experimental results demonstrated that the color mark sensor using the main stem of tomato as the reference exhibited higher performance than that of pakchoi in identifying the plant labels. The scheme of applying white topical markers on the lower main stem of the tomato plant is optimal. The effectiveness of the six sensors used by the system to detect plant labels was demonstrated. The computer vision algorithm proposed in this study was specially developed for the sensing system, yielding the highest overall accuracy of 95.19% for tomato and pakchoi localization. Deoxynivalenol (DON) in raw and processed grain poses significant risks to human and animal health. In this study, the feasibility of classifying DON levels in different genetic lines of barley kernels was evaluated using hyperspectral imaging (HSI) (382-1030 nm) in tandem with an optimized convolutional neural network (CNN). Machine learning methods including logistic regression, support vector machine, stochastic gradient descent, K nearest neighbors, random forest, and CNN were respectively used to develop the classification models. Spectral preprocessing methods including wavelet transform and max-min normalization helped to enhance the performance of different models. A simplified CNN model showed better performance than other machine learning models. Competitive adaptive reweighted sampling (CARS) in combination with successive projections algorithm (SPA) was applied to select the best set of characteristic wavelengths. Based on seven wavelengths selected, the optimized CARS-SPA-CNN model distinguished barley grains with low levels of DON (<5 mg/kg) from those with higher levels (5 mg/kg < DON ≤ 14 mg/kg) with an accuracy of 89.41%. The lower levels of DON class I (0.19 mg/kg ≤ DON ≤ 1.25 mg/kg) and class II (1.25 mg/kg < DON ≤ 5 mg/kg) were successfully distinguished based on the optimized CNN model, yielding a precision of 89.81%. The results suggest that HSI in tandem with CNN has great potential for discrimination of DON levels of barley kernels.

Climate and temperature have long been considered in relation to human diseases and mortality. In this study, we investigated whether daily temperature and humidity and patients' personal history affect the volume of peritonsillar abscesses (PTAs). We included 52 patients with PTAs who were admitted to the emergency department of the study hospital; their computed tomography data were analyzed, and PTA volume was measured. We investigated the possible correlation between PTA volume and mean/minimum/maximum temperature and humidity. Furthermore, we obtained personal history data, including information on drinking status, smoking status, dental problems, and patients' treatment experiences at local clinics before visiting the emergency department. The mean PTA volume was 3.93 mL, which was significantly correlated with temperature differences between 1 and 2 days before hospitalization and the day of hospitalization (P < .05) and also with a lack of treatment experience at local clinics (P < .001). However, no significant correlation was noted between PTA volume and the mean/minimum/maximum temperature and humidity on the day of hospitalization (P > .05). Similar findings were obtained for drinking status, smoking status, and dental problems (P > .1). PTA volume appears to be strongly associated with temperature differences between 1 and 2 days before hospitalization and the day of hospitalization. Patients with treatment experience at local clinics exhibited substantial increases in PTA volume. Aquaporin-4 (AQP4) is characterized by the formation of orthogonal arrays of particles (OAPs) comprising its M1 and M23 isoforms in the plasma membrane. However, the biological importance of OAP formation is obscure. Here, we developed an OAP depolymerization male mouse model by transgenic knock-in of an AQP4-A25Q mutation. Analyses of the mutant brain tissue using blue native polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, super-resolution imaging, and immunogold electron microscopy revealed remarkably reduced OAP structures and glial endfeet localization of the AQP4-A25Q mutant protein without effects on its overall mRNA and protein expression. AQP4 A25Q/A25Q mice showed better survival and neurologic deficit scores when cerebral edema was induced by water intoxication or middle cerebral artery occlusion/reperfusion. The brain water content and swelling of pericapillary astrocytic endfeet processes in AQP4 A25Q/A25Q mice were significantly reduced, functionally supporting decreased AQP4 protein expression at the blood-brain barrier. The infarct volume and neuronal damage were also reduced in AQP4 A25Q/A25Q mice in the middle cerebral artery occlusion/reperfusion model. Astrocyte activation in the brain was alleviated in AQP4 A25Q/A25Q mice, which may be associated with decreased cell swelling. We conclude that the OAP structure of AQP4 plays a key role in its polarized expression in astrocytic endfeet processes at the blood-brain barrier. Therefore, our study provided new insights into intervention of cerebral cellular edema caused by stroke and traumatic brain injury through regulating AQP4 OAP formation. This study performed main path analysis to explore the academic field of crime prevention. Studies were collected from the Web of Science database, and main path analysis was used to analyze the studies and identify influential authors and journals on the basis of the g-index and h-index. Cluster analysis was then performed to group studies with related themes. Wordle was used to output keywords and word clouds for each cluster, both of which were used as reference to name each cluster. Five clusters were identified, namely crime displacement control, crime prevention through environmental design, developmental crime prevention, the effects of communalism on crime prevention, and the effect of childhood sexual abuse on crime. Each cluster was analyzed, and suggestions based on the results are provided. The main purpose of crime prevention is to advance our understanding of the psychological criminal mechanisms (i.e., personal, social and environmental impacts) associated with different criminal behaviors at the intersection of law by using main path analysis.

Aim: We aim to develop a signature that could accurately predict prognosis and evaluate the response to immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) in bladder urothelial carcinoma (BLCA)., Methods: Based on comprehensive analysis of public database, we identified prognosis-related hub genes and investigated their predictive values for the ICB response in BLCA., Results: Among 69 common DEGs, three genes (AURKA, BIRC5, and CKS1B) were associated with poor prognosis, and which were related to histological subtypes, TP53 mutation status, and the C2 (IFN-gamma dominant) subtype. Radioresistance remains a major clinical challenge in cervical cancer therapy and results in tumor relapse and metastasis. Nevertheless, the detailed mechanisms are still largely enigmatic. This study was conducted to elucidate the prospective impacts of microRNA-29a ( miR-29a ) on the modulation of radioresistance-associated cervical cancer progression. Herein, we established two pairs of parental wild-type (WT) and radioresistant (RR) cervical cancer cells (CaSki and C33A), and we found that constant suppressed miR-29a, but not miR-29b/c, was exhibited in RR-clones that underwent a dose of 6-Gy radiation treatment. Remarkably, radioresistant clones displayed low radiosensitivity, and the reduced apoptosis rate resulted in augmented surviving fractions, measured by the clonogenic survival curve assay and the Annexin V/Propidium Iodide apoptosis assay, respectively. Overexpression of miR-29a effectively intensified the radiosensitivity and triggered the cell apoptosis in RR-clones. In contrast, suppressed miR-29a modestly abridged the radiosensitivity and abolished the cell apoptosis in WT-clones. Hence, ectopically introduced miR-29a into RR-clones notably attenuated the wound-healing rate and cell migration, whereas reduced miR-29a aggravated cell mobilities of WT-clones estimated via the in vitro wound-healing assay and time-lapse recording assay. Notably, we further established the in vivo short-term lung locomotion metastasis model in BALB/c nude mice, and we found that increased lung localization was shown after tail-vein injection of RR-CaSki cells compared to those of WT-CaSki cells. Amplified miR-29a significantly eliminated the radioresistance-enhanced lung locomotion. Our data provide evidence suggesting that miR-29a is a promising microRNA signature in radioresistance of cervical cancer cells and displays multifaceted innovative roles involved in anti-radioresistance, escalated apoptosis, and anti-cell migration/metastasis. Amalgamation of a nucleoid-based strategy ( miR-29a ) together with conventional radiotherapy may be an innovative and eminent strategy to intensify the radiosensitivity and further protect against the subsequent radioresistance and the potential metastasis in cervical cancer treatment.

With the increasing incidence and mortality of human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) worldwide, revealing innovative targets to improve therapeutic strategies is crucial for prolonging the lives of patients. To identify innovative targets, we conducted a comprehensive comparative transcriptome analysis of 5,410 human HCCs and 974 mouse liver cancers to identify concordantly expressed genes associated with patient survival. Among the 664 identified prognostic comparative HCC (pcHCC) genes, upregulated pcHCC genes were associated with prognostic clinical features, including large tumor size, vascular invasion and late HCC stages. Interestingly, after validating HCC patient prognoses in multiple independent datasets, we matched the 664 aberrant pcHCC genes with the sorafenib-altered genes in TCGA&#95;LIHC patients and found these 664 pcHCC genes were enriched in sorafenib-related functions, such as downregulated xenobiotic and lipid metabolism and upregulated cell proliferation. Therapeutic agents targeting aberrant pcHCC genes presented divergent molecular mechanisms, including suppression of sorafenib-unrelated oncogenic pathways, induction of sorafenib-unrelated ferroptosis, and modulation of sorafenib transportation and metabolism, to potentiate sorafenib therapeutic effects in HCC combination therapy. Moreover, the pcHCC genes NCAPG and CENPW, which have not been targeted in combination with sorafenib treatment, were knocked down and combined with sorafenib treatment, which reduced HCC cell viability based on disruption to the p38/STAT3 axis, thereby hypersensitizing HCC cells. Precise segmentation of wheat spikes from a complex background is necessary for obtaining image-based phenotypic information of wheat traits such as yield estimation and spike morphology. A new instance segmentation method based on a Hybrid Task Cascade model was proposed to solve the wheat spike detection problem with improved detection results. In this study, wheat images were collected from fields where the environment varied both spatially and temporally. Res2Net50 was adopted as a backbone network, combined with multi-scale training, deformable convolutional networks, and Generic ROI Extractor for rich feature learning. The proposed methods were trained and validated, and the average precision (AP) obtained for the bounding box and mask was 0.904 and 0.907, respectively, and the accuracy for wheat spike counting was 99.29%. Comprehensive empirical analyses revealed that our method (Wheat-Net) performed well on challenging field-based datasets with mixed qualities, particularly those with various backgrounds and wheat spike adjacence/occlusion. Fluorescence spectroscopy, color imaging and multispectral imaging (MSI) have emerged as effective analytical methods for the non-destructive detection of quality attributes of various white meat products such as fish, shrimp, chicken, duck and goose. Based on machine learning and convolutional neural network, these techniques can not only be used to determine the freshness and category of white meat through imaging and analysis, but can also be used to detect various harmful substances in meat products to prevent stale and spoiled meat from entering the market and causing harm to consumer health and even the ecosystem. The development of quality inspection systems based on such techniques to measure and classify white meat quality parameters will help improve the productivity and economic efficiency of the meat industry, as well as the health of consumers. Herein, a comprehensive review and discussion of the literature on fluorescence spectroscopy, color imaging and MSI is presented. The principles of these three techniques, the quality analysis models selected and the research results of non-destructive determinations of white meat quality over the last decade or so are analyzed and summarized. The review is conducted in this highly practical research field in order to provide information for future research directions. The conclusions detail how these efficient and convenient imaging and analytical techniques can be used for non-destructive quality evaluation of white meat in the laboratory and in industry.

Objectives: Patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) have poor prognosis and show poor responses to immune checkpoint (IC) inhibitor (ICI) therapy. Competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) networks, tumor-infiltrating immune cells (TIICs), and ICIs may influence tumor prognosis and response rates to ICI therapy. This study is aimed at identifying prognostic and IC-related biomarkers and key TIIC signatures to improve prognosis and ICI therapy response in HNSCC patients., Methods and Results: Ninety-five long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs), microRNAs (miRNAs), and 1746 mRNAs were identified using three independent methods. We constructed a ceRNA network and estimated the proportions of 22 immune cell subtypes. Ten ceRNAs were related to prognosis according to Kaplan-Meier analysis. Two risk signatures based, respectively, on nine ceRNAs (ANLN, CFL2, ITGA5, KDELC1, KIF23, NFIA, PTX3, RELT, and TMC7) and three immune cell types (naïve B cells, neutrophils, and regulatory T cells) via univariate Cox regression, least absolute shrinkage and selection operator, and multivariate Cox regression analyses could accurately and independently predict the prognosis of HNSCC patients. Key mRNAs in the ceRNA network were significantly correlated with naïve B cells and regulatory T cells and with stage, grade, and immune and molecular subtype. Eight IC genes exhibited higher expression in tumor tissues and were correlated with eight key mRNAs in the ceRNA network in HNSCC patients with different HPV statuses according to coexpression and TIMER 2.0 analyses. Most drugs were effective in association with expression of these key signatures (ANLN, CFL2, ITGA5, KIF23, NFIA, PTX3, RELT, and TMC7) based on GSCALite analysis. The prognostic value of key biomarkers and associations between key ceRNAs and IC genes were validated using online databases. Eight key ceRNAs were confirmed to predict response to ICI in other cancers based on TIDE analysis., Conclusions: We constructed two risk signatures to accurately predict prognosis in HNSCC. Key IC-related signatures may be associated with response to ICI therapy. Acute kidney injury (AKI) is one of the major complications with increased oxidative stress and inflammation in diabetic patients. Hyperglycemia stimulates the formation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs). However, hyperglycemia directly triggers the interaction between AGEs and transmembrane AGEs receptors (RAGE), which enhances oxidative stress and increases the production of inflammatory substances. Therefore, diabetes plays a pivotal role in kidney injury. Hydralazine, a vasodilator and antihypertensive drug, was found to have the ability to reduce ROS, oxidative stress, and inflammation. We applied Hydralazine co-culture with AGEs in rat mesangial cells (RMC) and to renal ischemia/reperfusion(I/R) injury models in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Hydralazine significantly decreased AGEs-induced RAGE, iNOS, and COX-2 expressions in RMC. Compared to the diabetic with AKI group, hydralazine decreased inflammation-related protein, and JAK2, STAT3 signaling in rat kidney tissue. A new type of metal-organic framework, [Cd 2 (pdc)(H 2 O)(DMA) 2 ] n (pdc = 3,5-pyrazoledicarboxylic acid; DMA = dimethylamine), named Cd-MOF, was synthesized and characterized. There are regular rectangular pore channels containing a large number of dimethylamine cations in the crystal structure. AC impedance test results show the proton conductivity of Cd-MOF reaches 1.15 × 10 -3 S cm -1 at 363 K and 98% RH. In order for its application in fuel cells, the Cd-MOF was introduced into a sulfonated polyphenylene oxide matrix to prepare a hybrid membrane, and the proton conductivity of the hybrid membrane has a high value of 2.64 × 10 -1 S cm -1 at 343 K and 98% RH, which is higher than those of most MOF polymer hybrid membranes. The proton conductivity of the hybrid membrane of the SPPO polymer still maintains a certain degree of stability in a wide temperature range. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first proton exchange membrane that combines pyrazolecarboxylate cadmium MOFs and an SPPO polymer with high proton conductivity and good stability. This research may help to further develop the application of MOFs in the field of proton exchange membrane fuel cells.

Holotrichia oblita (Faldermann) (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) is a major soil insect pest that damages forest trees, crops, and lawns. Adults of H. oblita fly, forage, and mate at night but remain underground during the day. We studied the effect of photoperiod on H. oblita reproduction. H. oblita females laid more eggs at 8:16 (L:D) h and 0:24 (L:D) h than other photoperiods. As the scotophase increased, the preoviposition period decreased and the oviposition period increased. Female longevity exceeded that of males at all photoperiods, and both males and females at 0:24 (L:D) h had the shortest longevity. The number of eggs laid per female increased with increasing food consumption. Females at 8:16 (L:D) h had the greatest food consumption and laid the most eggs, while females at 24:0 (L:D) h had the lowest food consumption and laid few eggs. The food intake of adults increased gradually and decreased slowly after reaching a peak. Females began to lay eggs when their food consumption reached a maximum. These results indicate that a scotophase is necessary for the reproduction of H. oblita. A long scotophase promotes greater oviposition. Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) and alcohol flush syndrome are thought to be strongly influenced by genetic factors and are highly prevalent amongst East Asians. Diminished activity of aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH), a major enzyme in the alcohol-metabolizing pathway, causes the flushing syndrome associated with alcoholic consumption. The genetic effect of ALDH isoforms on NPC is unknown. We therefore investigated the association between the genetic polymorphisms of all 19 ALDH isoforms and NPC among 458 patients with NPC and 1672 age- and gender-matched healthy controls in Taiwan. Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) located between the 40,000 base pairs upstream and downstream of the 19 ALDH isoform coding regions were collected from two genome-wise association studies conducted in Taiwan and from the Taiwan Biobank. Thirteen SNPs located on ALDH4A1 , ALDH18A1 , ALDH3B2 , ALDH1L2, ALDH1A2, and ALDH2 Glu487Lys (rs671) were associated with NPC susceptibility. Stratification by alcohol status revealed a cumulative risk effect for NPC amongst drinkers and non-drinkers, with odds ratios of 4.89 (95% confidence interval 2.15-11.08) and 3.57 (1.97-6.47), respectively. A synergistic effect was observed between SNPs and alcohol. This study is the first to report associations between genetic variants in 19 ALDH isoforms, their interaction with alcohol consumption and NPC in an East Asian population.

Imaging spectroscopy has emerged as a reliable analytical method for effectively characterizing and quantifying quality attributes of agricultural products. By providing spectral information relevant to food quality properties, imaging spectroscopy has been demonstrated to be a potential method for rapid and non-destructive classification, authentication, and prediction of quality parameters of various categories of tubers, including potato and sweet potato. The imaging technique has demonstrated great capacities for gaining rapid information about tuber physical properties (such as texture, water binding capacity, and specific gravity), chemical components (such as protein, starch, and total anthocyanin), varietal authentication, and defect aspects. This paper emphasizes how recent developments in spectral imaging with machine learning have enhanced overall capabilities to evaluate tubers. The machine learning algorithms coupled with feature variable identification approaches have obtained acceptable results. This review briefly introduces imaging spectroscopy and machine learning, then provides examples and discussions of these techniques in tuber quality determinations, and presents the challenges and future prospects of the technology. This review will be of great significance to the study of tubers using spectral imaging technology.

Fusarium head blight (FHB), a fungus disease of small grain cereal crops, results in reduced yields and diminished value of harvested grain due to the presence of deoxynivalenol (DON), a mycotoxin produced by the causal pathogen Fusarium graminearum. DON and other tricothecene mycotoxins pose serious health risks to both humans and livestock, especially swine. Due to these health concerns, barley used for malting, food or feed is routinely assayed for DON levels. Various methods are available for assaying DON levels in grain samples including enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). ELISA and GC-MS are very accurate; however, assaying grain samples by these techniques are laborious, expensive and destructive. In this study, we explored the feasibility of using hyperspectral imaging (382-1030 nm) to develop a rapid and non-destructive protocol for assaying DON in barley kernels. Samples of 888 and 116 from various genetic lines were selected for calibration and prediction. Full-wavelength locally weighted partial least squares regression (LWPLSR) achieved high accuracy with the coefficient of determination in prediction (R 2 P ) of 0.728 and root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP) of 3.802. Competitive adaptive reweighted sampling (CARS) was used to choose potential feature wavelengths, and these selected variables were further optimized using the iterative selection of successive projections algorithm (ISSPA). The CARS-ISSPA-LWPLSR model developed using 7 feature variables yielded R 2 P of 0.680 and RMSEP of 4.213 in DON content prediction. Based on the 7 wavelengths selected by CARS-ISSPA, partial least square discriminant analysis (PLSDA) discriminated barley kernels having lower DON (less than1.25 mg/kg) levels from those with higher levels (including 1.25-3 mg/kg, 3-5 mg/kg, and 5-10 mg/kg), with Matthews correlation coefficient in cross-validation (M-R CV ) of as high as 0.931. Background: Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is an aggressive and invasive malignancy that presents at advanced clinical stage with no more effective treatments. Development of a method for its early detection would be useful, also new therapeutic target need to be discovered; however, there is a lack of information about its oncogenic driver gene mutations., Objectives: We aim to identify the SCLC-related genomic variants that associate with clinical staging and serum protein biomarkers observed in other types of lung cancer., Methods: We screened formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) biopsy tissues of 32 Chinese SCLC patients using the 303 oncogenic driver gene panel generated by Tiling PCR amplification sequencing (tPAS) and analyzed the patients' corresponding serum protein levels of CYFRA21-1 CEA, NSE, and SCCA., Results: In total, we found 147 SCLC-related mutant genes, among these, three important genes ( TP53 , RB1 , KMT2D ) as well as five novel genes LRRK2 , BRCA1 , PTCH1 , ARID2 , and APC that altogether occurred in 90% of patients. Furthermore, increased mutations to 6 genes ( WT1 , NOTCH1 , EPHA3 , KDM6A , SETD2 , ACVR1B ) significantly associated with higher serum NSE levels ( P = 0.0016) and higher clinical stages II + III compared to stage I ( P = 0.06)., Conclusions: Our panel is relatively reliable in detecting the oncogenic mutations of Chinese SCLC patients. Mathematical equations are often used to model biological processes. However, for many systems, determining analytically the underlying equations is highly challenging due to the complexity and unknown factors involved in the biological processes. In this work, we present a numerical procedure to discover dynamical physical laws behind biological data. The method utilizes deep learning methods based on neural networks, particularly residual networks. It is also based on recently developed mathematical tools of flow-map learning for dynamical systems. We demonstrate that with the proposed method, one can accurately construct numerical biological models for unknown governing equations behind measurement data. Moreover, the deep learning model can also incorporate unknown parameters in the biological process. A successfully trained deep neural network model can then be used as a predictive tool to produce system predictions of different settings and allows one to conduct detailed analysis of the underlying biological process. In this paper, we use three biological models-SEIR model, Morris-Lecar model and the Hodgkin-Huxley model-to show the capability of our proposed method.

DNA damage has been hypothesized to be a driving force of the aging process. At the same time, there exists multiple compounds that can extend lifespan in model organisms, such as yeast, worms, flies, and mice. One possible mechanism of action for these compounds is a protective effect against DNA damage. We investigated whether five of these lifespan-extending compounds, dinitrophenol, metformin, rapamycin, resveratrol, and spermidine, could protect nuclear DNA in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae at the same doses under which they confer lifespan extension. We found that rapamycin and spermidine were able to decrease the spontaneous mutation rate at the CAN1 locus, whereas dinitrophenol, metformin, and resveratrol were able to protect yeast against CAN1 mutations induced by ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS). We also tested whether these compounds could enhance survival against EMS, ultraviolet (UV) light, or hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) insult. All five compounds conferred a protective effect against EMS, while metformin and spermidine protected yeast against UV light. Somewhat surprisingly, none of the compounds were able to afford a significant protection against H 2 O 2 , with spermidine dramatically sensitizing cells. We also examined the ability of these compounds to increase lifespan when growth-arrested by hydroxyurea; only spermidine was found to have a positive effect. Despite the distant metastasis of cervical cancer cells being a prominent cause of mortality, neither the metastasis capacity nor the in vitro conditions mimicking adhesion of cervical cancer cells to endothelial cells have been fully elucidated. Circulating metastatic cancer cells undergo transendothelial migration and invade normal organs in distant metastasis; however, the putative molecular mechanism remains largely uncertain. In this study, we describe the use of an in vitro parallel-plate flow chamber to simulate the dynamic circulation stress on cervical cancer cells and elucidate their vascular adhesion and metastasis. We isolate the viable and shear stress-resistant (SSR) cervical cancer cells for mechanistic studies. Remarkably, the identified SSR-HeLa and SSR-CaSki exhibited high in vitro adhesive and metastatic activities. Hence, a consistently suppressed miR-128 level was revealed in SSR cell clones compared to those of parental wild-type (WT) cells. Overexpressed miR-128 attenuated SSR-HeLa cells' adherence to human umbilical cord vein endothelial cells (HUVECs); in contrast, suppressed miR-128 efficiently augmented the static adhesion capacity in WT-HeLa and WT-CaSki cells. Hence, amplified miR-128 modestly abolished in vitro SSR-augmented HeLa and CaSki cell movement, whereas reduced miR-128 aggravated the migration speed in a time-lapse recording assay in WT groups. Consistently, the force expression of miR-128 alleviated the SSR-enhanced HeLa and CaSki cell mobility in a wound healing assay. Notably, miR-128 mediated SSR-enhanced HeLa and CaSki cells' adhesion and metastasis through suppressed ITGA5 , ITGB5 , sLex , CEACAM-6 , MMP9 , and MMP23 transcript levels. Our data provide evidence suggesting that miR-128 is a promising microRNA that prevented endothelial cells' adhesion and transendothelial migration to contribute to the SSR-enhanced adhesion and metastasis progression under a parallel-plate flow chamber system. This indicates that the nucleoid-based miR-128 strategy may be an attractive therapeutic strategy to eliminate tumor cells resistant to circulation shear flow, prevent vascular adhesion, and preclude subsequent transendothelial metastasis.

Introduction: Using mobile phones for communication in emergency departments is a common practice; however, several studies have demonstrated that they may act as vectors for bacteria and viruses. This study evaluated the effectiveness of plastic wrapping in decreasing bacterial contamination on mobile phone surfaces., Method: We used culture dishes and a luminometer to detect bacterial colonies and contamination on the phone surfaces., Result: Our experiment showed that bacterial colonies exist on mobile phones before and after work. We found that wiping with 75% alcohol sanitizers effectively reduces the number of colonies on either a mobile phone or a temporary plastic covering. In addition, we found that bacterial colonies do not contaminate or adhere to plastic wrap any easier than to mobile phones., Conclusion: These results demonstrated the effectiveness of plastic wrap for protecting mobile phone surfaces against bacterial colonization. In addition, applying a layer of plastic wrap protects the phone from potential damage due to the alcohol.
