The microbiome modulates host immunity and aids the maintenance of tolerance in the gut, where microbial and food-derived antigens are abundant. Yet modern dietary factors and the excessive use of antibiotics have contributed to the rising incidence of food allergies, inflammatory bowel disease and other non-communicable chronic diseases associated with the depletion of beneficial taxa, including butyrate-producing Clostridia. Here we show that intragastrically delivered neutral and negatively charged polymeric micelles releasing butyrate in different regions of the intestinal tract restore barrier-protective responses in mouse models of colitis and of peanut allergy. Treatment with the butyrate-releasing micelles increased the abundance of butyrate-producing taxa in Clostridium cluster XIVa, protected mice from an anaphylactic reaction to a peanut challenge and reduced disease severity in a T-cell-transfer model of colitis. By restoring microbial and mucosal homoeostasis, butyrate-releasing micelles may function as an antigen-agnostic approach for the treatment of allergic and inflammatory diseases.

Background The incidence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) remains high, and it is prevalent all over the world. The incidence of GDM in China is up to 14.8%. Intrauterine hyperglycemia during pregnancy is a severe threat to maternal and neonatal health. Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of mindfulness-based complementary and alternative therapy for GDM. Methods This study selected 64 pregnant women with GDM undergoing routine outpatient prenatal examination in Changsha Central Hospital by using convenience sampling from March to December 2021. These patients were randomly assigned into the intervention group (n=31) and the control group (n=33) . The control group received routine psychologicalgcare, nutritional guidance and exercise guidance. The intervention group received 8 weeks of mindfulness-based complementary and alternative therapy on the basis of routine psychological care. This study collected the baseline characteristics and compared the blood sugar and inflammatory biomarkers and adipokines, followed-up neonatal outcomes (birth weight, random blood sugar) . To mitigate global warming, phasing out coal in the global energy system orderly and rapidly is an important near-term strategy. However, the majority of coal-fired plants in China have operated for less than 15 years. Accelerated coal power plant retirements would lead to substantial asset stranding. Coal-to-nuclear (C2N) technology offers a potential solution by replacing coal boilers in existing coal-fired plants with nuclear reactors. In this study, the G4-ECONS model was used to assess the economics of repowering a 600 MW supercritical coal-fired power plant with two 272 MWe high-temperature gas-cooled reactors. The timeline for the C2N project and the additional cost of dispatching electricity from the grid during retrofitting were discussed. Results showed that the C2N total capitalized costs are 19.4% (baseline estimate, USD 5297.6/kW) and 11.1% (conservative estimate, USD 5847.2/kW) lower than the greenfield project (USD 6576.5/kW), respectively. And C2N projects need to reduce LUEC by at least 20% to become competitive. This study can inform engineering design decisions leading to more precise and cost-effective C2N projects. Modulated pressure waves propagating in the drilling fluids inside the drill string are a reliable real-time communication technology that transmit data from downhole to the surface during oil and gas drilling. In the analysis of pressure waves' propagation characteristics, the modeling of transient friction in non-Newtonian fluids remains a great challenge. This paper establishes a numerical model for transient pipe flow of power-law non-Newtonian fluids by using the weighted residual collocation method. Then, the Newton–Raphson method is applied to solve the nonlinear equations. The numerical method is validated by using the theoretical solution of Newtonian fluids and is proven to converge reliably with larger time steps. Finally, the influencing factors of the wall shear stress are analyzed using this numerical method. For shear-thinning fluids, the friction loss of periodic flow decreases with the increase in flow rate, which is opposite to the variation law of friction with the flow rate for stable pipe flow. Keeping the amplitude of pressure pulsation unchanged, an increase in frequency leads to a decrease in velocity fluctuations; therefore, the friction loss decreases with the increase in frequency. The conversion of coal-fired power plants to nuclear power stations is a potential method for decarbonizing coal power and offers a pathway for low-carbon development in China's power industry. This paper focuses on retrofitting China's coastal coal-fired power stations and compares the potential nuclear reactor technologies for the retrofit: China's mainstream pressurized water reactor and the commercially operated fourth-generation high-temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR). The analysis compares the degree of matching between the two technologies and coal-fired power stations in terms of unit capacity, thermal system parameters, unit speed, structural dimensions, and weight, which significantly impact the retrofit scheme. The results indicate that HTGR is more compatible with coal-fired power plants and is recommended as the type of nuclear reactor technology to be retrofitted. The study selected the 210 MWe High-Temperature Gas-Cooled Reactor Pebble-Bed Module (HTR-PM) as the reactor technology for retrofitting a typical 300 MW class subcritical coal-fired unit. Based on the concept of subcritical parameters upgrading, the potential analysis and strategy study of retrofit is carried out in terms of the turbine, the main heat exchange equipment, the main pumps, and the main thermal system pipelines in the conventional island. The results indicate that the conventional island of the HTR-PM nuclear power plant has significant potential for retrofitting, which can be a crucial research direction for nuclear retrofitting of coal-fired power plants. Repeated closed head injury (rCHI) is one of the most common brain injuries. Although extensive studies have focused on how to treat rCHI‐induced brain injury and reduce the possibility of developing memory deficits, the prevention of rCHI‐induced anxiety has received little research attention. The current study was designed to assess the effects of photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy in preventing anxiety following rCHI. The rCHI disease model was constructed by administering three repeated closed‐head injuries within an interval 5 days. 2‐min daily PBM therapy using an 808 nm continuous wave laser at 350 mW/cm2 on the scalp was implemented for 20 days. We found that PBM significantly ameliorated rCHII‐induced anxiety‐like behaviors, neuronal apoptosis, neuronal injury, promotes astrocyte/microglial polarization to anti‐inflammatory phenotype, preserves mitochondrial fusion‐related protein MFN2, attenuates the elevated mitochondrial fission‐related protein DRP1, and mitigates neuronal senescence.
