Abstract

The transmission characteristics of terahertz (THz) waves in a non-uniform microplasma are investigated by using the scattering matrix method. The electron density distribution in microplasma is simulated by Epstein and parabolic models. The effects of physical parameters, such as the incidence angle of THz waves, microplasma size, electron density, and collision frequency, on the propagation of THz waves are numerically analyzed. The results show that lower frequency THz waves are difficult to penetrate the microplasma with high electron density and high collision frequency. The microplasma density distribution, especially the gradient variation of the density in the first layer, has a large effect on the reflection of THz waves. Thus, THz waves can be used to diagnose the physical parameters of microplasmas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The scattering matrix method is applied to investigate the propagation characteristics of obliquely incident terahertz (THz) waves in inhomogeneous fully ionized dusty plasma. The propagation coefficients of THz waves are analyzed with different physical parameters in the case of parabolic electron density distribution. The results show that the transmissivity of lower frequency THz waves have a noticeable variation with the change of physical parameters. However, the transmissivity values can rapidly approach 1 in higher frequency band. We notice that there is a critical value f c ≈ 0.045 THz. When f > f c , the transmissivity increases as the dust particles density and radius increase. However, it is somewhat opposite when f < f c . Significantly, the THz waves exhibit a greater propensity for penetrating fully ionized dusty plasma compared with the weakly ionized dusty plasma. Abstract

The use of Rydberg dressing technology to achieve long-range soft-core interaction in Bose–Einstein condensates (BECs) opens up new avenues for exploration of supersolid and its related phenomenon. We investigate the ground state of a two-component spin–orbit-coupled BECs with both long-range soft-core and contact interactions in radially periodic potentials. Our results show that the ground-state structures of the system are strongly influenced by spin–orbit coupling, contact interactions, long-range soft-core interactions, and the amplitude of the external potential. We find that such parameters can been used to induce desired ground-states structures, such as necklace structure of lump, striped standing wave, and especially ring dark soliton. Furthermore, we observe that the long-range soft-core interactions are used to manipulate the transition between miscible-immiscible phases like contact interactions. Our research provides another degree of freedom for manipulating supersolids in spin–orbit-coupled BECs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The cyclic deep cryogenic treatment was proposed to improve both the hardness and corrosion resistance of the high strength 7075 aluminum alloy. The effect of different CDCT times on the exfoliation corrosion and intergranular corrosion of the alloys were observed by scanning electron microscope. The corrosion behaviors of the alloys were monitored by electrochemical techniques. The hardness of the alloy was measured by Vickers hardness tester. Furthermore, the microstructures of the alloys were examined by transmission electron microscope. The results show that the corrosion resistance and hardness are strongly affected by the precipitate state. The discontinuous grain boundary precipitates and the wide precipitate free zones will enhance the corrosion resistance. The fine precipitates distributed evenly in the matrix can increase the hardness. After the CDCT, the corrosion resistance is remarkably improved without sacrificing the hardness. The best combination of the hardness and corrosion resistance is exhibited for the alloy treated with the CDCT twice.

Abstract

The 7075 aluminum alloy was subjected to deep cryogenic treatment (DCT) at –196°C with liquid nitrogen for different hours. The wear and corrosion behaviors of the alloy were investigated by hardness, friction and wear, intergranular corrosion (IGC), and electrochemical corrosion tests. The microstructure of the alloy was observed by transmission electron microscope (TEM). The results showed that both the wear and corrosion resistance of the alloy treated with DCT could be improved. After the DCT 12 h, the matrix precipitates of the alloy were fine and homogeneously distributed, and the grain boundary precipitates of the alloy were discontinued, so that the alloy performed better comprehensive properties.
