7. LnIII/CuIBimetallic Nanoclusters with Enhanced NIR-II Luminescence

Abstract

Coinage-metal clusters with excellent luminescence properties have attracted considerable interest due to their intriguing structures and potential applications. However, achieving strong near-infrared (NIR) luminescence in these clusters is highly challenging. Here, we have successfully synthesized the first LnIII/CuIbimetallic clusters, formulated as [LnCu54O6Cl3(2-MeO-PhC≡C)36] (ClO4)6(Ln = Yb for YbCu54, Er for ErCu54, and Gd for GdCu54). Single crystal X-ray diffraction showed that the LnCu54clusters have a three-layered core–shell structure, consisting of (LnO6)@Cu18Cl3@Cu36units protected by 36 2-MeO-PhC≡C–ligands. Notably, the YbCu54cluster exhibits significant NIR-II luminescence at 986 nm with the solid quantum efficiency of 33.3%, the highest among Cu clusters with NIR-II emission. This work not only reports the first category of LnIII/CuIclusters but also presents a method to enhance NIR luminescence in coinage-metal clusters through the incorporation of LnIIIions.

8. Ag+-Induced Assembly of Pt Clusters for Photocatalytic Hydrogen Production

Abstract

Cluster-assembled nanowires provide a unique strategy for the preparation of high-performance nanostructures. However, existing preparations are limited by complex processes and harsh reaction conditions. Here, Ag+ions were utilized as a novel structure-directing agent to generate the self-assembly of Pt clusters to form ultrafine nanowires with a diameter of less than 5 nm. Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) and extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) characterizations demonstrated that every Ag+bridged two [Pt3(CO)3(μ2-CO)3]n2–clusters through coordination and formed a sandwich-like structure of [Pt3(CO)3(μ2-CO)3]nAg[Pt3(CO)3(μ2-CO)3]m3–. As a result, multiple sandwich-like structures of [Pt3(CO)3(μ2-CO)3]nAg[Pt3(CO)3(μ2-CO)3]m3–were established by Ag+to form Pt nanowire superstructures {[Pt3(CO)6]nAg[Pt3(CO)6]mAg[Pt3(CO)6]x}∞(abbreviated as Ag–Pt NWS). Our results demonstrate that the Pt nanowire superstructures showed promising cocatalytic performance for photocatalytic H2production with the involvement of Ag+, which promises a desirable way to develop advanced functional nanomaterials.

39. Stepwise Assembly of Ag42Nanocalices Based on a MoVI-Anchored Thiacalix[4]arene Metalloligand

Abstract

Metalloligand strategy has been well recognized in the syntheses of heterometallic coordination polymers; however, such a strategy used in the assembly of silver nanoclusters is not broadly available. Herein, we report the stepwise syntheses of a family of halogen-templated Ag42nanoclusters (Ag42c–Ag42f) based on MoVI-anchored p-tert-butylthiacalix[4]arene (H4TC4A) as a metalloligand (hereafter named MoO3–TC4A). X-ray crystallography demonstrates that they are similar C3-symmetric silver–organic nanocalices capped by six MoO3–TC4A metalloligands, which are evenly distributed up and down the base of 42 silver atoms. These nanoclusters can be disassembled to six bowl-shaped [Ag11(MoO3–TC4A)(RS)3] secondary building units (SBUs, R = Et or nPr), which are fused together in a face-sharing fashion surrounding Cl–or Br–as a central anion template. The electrospray mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) indicates their high stabilities in solution and verifies the formation of the MoO3–TC4A metalloligand, thereby rationalizing the overall stepwise assembly process for them. Moreover, Ag42cshows lower cytotoxicity and better activity against the HepG-2 cell line than MCF-7 and BGC-823. These results not only exemplify the effectiveness of a thiacalix[4]arene-based metalloligand in the assembly of silver nanoclusters but also give us profound insight about the step-by-step assembly process in silver nanoclusters.
