Different methodologies for the assessment of the influence of vibrations on people residing in buildings can be found in international standards. There are two dominant methods of assessment: the analysis of the RMS values in 1/3 octave bands and vibration dose VDV. In this article, these two methods of assessing the influence of vibration on humans are compared, not only on the basis of standard formulas but also on a real example. The influence of transport vibrations (busses, trams, trucks) on humans residing in traditional, masonry buildings was analysed. Conclusions resulting from a comparative analysis of the two methods of evaluation were formed.

The objective of the paper was to conduct dynamic measurements of free-field vibrations in three profiles and establish decay relations of propagating vibrations. The sources of vibrations were passages of the Pendolino train with dedicated speeds from 40 to 293 km/h. In each profile, soil properties tests were carried out. Based on the data for a few selected speeds of the Pendolino train’s passages, the Vibration Reduction Coefficients (VRC) were determined at selected points. The paper is also focused on the analysis of vibrations of the selected one-storey masonry residential building located in the vicinity of one of the profiles and their evaluation of the harmfulness on the building structure using standard scales of dynamic influence.

The paper describes experimental investigations of vibrations caused by train passages in the shallow underground tunnel (in Warsaw, Poland) in comparison to the results of measurements of vibrations from ground surface transportation (trams and buses). Propagation of surface ground vibrations from underground tunnel is presented. The problem of dynamic response of a building and influence of vibrations caused by underground on people residing in a building is discussed as well. The dynamic response of the building to underground vibrations is essentially different from the response of a building excited by surface sources of transport vibrations. Also the distribution of influence of the transport vibrations on people in the building is significantly different in both cases.

Human perception of vibration could be the basic parameter in designing a new buildings located close to public transport. It is also one of parameter that is considered in diagnosis of building vibration. People perceived vibrations through the floor. The problem of floor vibration appear especially in old historical buildings with wooden floor when source of transport vibration change because of infrastructure development. During years road, tramway or railway infrastructure is more expanded that it was when the old buildings were built. That is why new solutions of protection against noise and vibration are needed. One of that kind solution could be vibro-acoustic floor which can reduce impact sounds and vibrations. A flooring system that insulates both acoustically and vibrantly is a common solution to reduce noise coming from impact sounds or to propagate from lower levels to higher ones and to limit the influence of vibration on people receiving vibration in buildings passively. The flooring system should therefore be capable to damp vibrations up to 100 Hz and have sound insulation of min. 25 dB. The composition of vibration insulation materials and their material parameters will be selected to optimize the acoustic and vibration protection. At the same time, the acoustic and vibration-insulating flooring system should have all the functional features that are common to the floor: ease of installation and adequate rigidity. In paper three types of vibro-acoustic floors will be considered: with full vibro-insulation, with insulation strips and with point insulation. Advantages and disadvantages of these three considered solutions will be presented. The paper is pilot study to in-situ measurement which will be held under the project of EU commission support.

In an increasingly urbanized areas transport vibration source are closer and closer to the receiver which is a building. At the same time residents requirements for comfort in rooms are higher. In this paper influence of transport vibrations from various types of trams on human perception was tested and analysed. Measurements were made in Cracow on 11 buildings located near tramway. Human perception were investigated according to ISO and Polish standard. Basic RMS method and additional VDV method were applied because of high crest factor of recorded signal. Results of both methods were compared.

The influence of vibration on human body is an issue that from several decades is a subject of many research and experiments. But most of these research concern on negative influences on human body. The paper presents methodology and results of research conducted on bus drivers of National Urban Transport in Tychy. The study involved fourteen drivers. First stage of the experiment included biomechanical and medical tests. After that psychological tests were made determining such factors like personality characteristics and stress resistance. Second stage included monitoring of psychomotor condition of drivers during night and day shifts, before and after work.

Historic buildings in Poland are largely neglected objects that small percentage is preserved in its original form. Unrelenting in the case of historic buildings is a time that brings with it the natural processes of aging of buildings, but also the history of the object which is often marked by military conflicts, fires or even incompetently carried out reconstruction. Nowadays historic buildings are also destroyed by the rapid development of infrastructure and residential construction. This development could lead to changes of water in the soil, make changes in the geologic al structure or cause exposure of the historic building to the new influences (eg. traffic vibrations), to which building has not been subjected so far. Vibrations are often omitted in environmental issues, although the protection against noise and vibration has its place in the Law on Environmental Protection. This article presents the methodology for the measurement and interpretation of vibration influence on historic buildings and the assessment methods of technical condition of historic building on the example of dynamic measurements made on St. Nicholas Church in Krakow. The importance of well-done crack-by-crack documentation and characterization of damages based on damage index is shown. Difficulties that can be encountered when determining the causes of technical condition of historic buildings are also shown. Based on the example of the Church in the article are also given the possible protection solutions of historic structures from vibrations.

In this article many vibrational signals of different value of crest factor are investigated. Evaluation of human perception of vibration is made with use of two different method of evaluation: basic RMS method and vibration dose value method (VDV), which is one of additional method mostly used for peak signals.
