Literature is a medium of expressing what it is to be human and to feel human, and religious texts are one category of these expressions of humanity. Christian hymns mirror the right beliefs and right practices of their faiths. As such, this study analyzed where man roots and finds his source of worth and identity through selected contemporary hymns. The hymn "My Worth is not in what I own" and "I'd rather have Jesus" were selected using deliberate sampling. The paper utilized a descriptive qualitative design, and subjected the two hymns to both document analysis and thematic analysis, where several observations and interpretations have emerged. Based on the interpreted data, linguistic features show the dominance of the first-person pronouns and negation as effective devices in pointing the meaning and source of worth and identity. Literary devices such as comparison and rhyme also affect the rhythm and understanding of the hymns toward the discovery of one's identity and worth. The Searlean assertive, declarative, and expressive acts are found to be evident in the formation and discovery of one's worth and identity, in that there is assertion, redirection, and response to the newfound/expounded identity and worth. In conclusion, this study provides compelling evidence that material pursuits of the speaker in the two hymns are in no match and comparison to the grander scale of Jesus as ultimate source of identity, worth, pleasure and treasure. These findings have important implications that hymns do not only lay out spiritual and theological truths, but also individual and psycho-social aspects of meaning making of what it is to exist, what it is to be human, and why we exist. As such, this study contributes to our understanding of hymns. Overall, this research highlights the significance of analysis of hymns and suggests potential avenues for future investigation. The poem "أيا من يدعي الفهم" (O You Who Claims Understanding), created by Abu Muhammad Alqosim bin Ali al-Hariri, and later recited by the renowned qari’ Sheikh Mishary Rasyid, provoked various reactions among internet users. Hence, this research aims to analyze the stylistic elements of this poem. Qualitative descriptive methods and content analysis were employed in this study, collecting data through observation, note-taking, and purposive sampling techniques. The findings indicate that the poetic style creates effects such as enhancing faith, self-reflection, satire, and emotional impact. These effects are constructed through the following aspects: (1) phonological aspects, including the harmony of the rhyme at the end of verses and the use of specific rhythmic patterns (shawamit infijariyah and shawait qashirah); (2) Morphological aspects dominated by fi’il madhi and fi’il mudhari’, sarcastically criticizing individuals for their reprehensible actions, and fi’il amr and nahyi for advice and conclusion in the poem; (3) Syntactic aspects involving repetition and ellipsis for reinforcing and expanding on the subjects of criticism; (4) Semantic aspects employing unusual word meanings to captivate the audience's attention; and (5) Imagery aspects creating beauty and coherence through the use of assonance, alliteration, epithets, euphemisms, sarcasm, cynicism, and cause-and-effect coherence. The implications suggest that this work could serve as an alternative form of contemporary preaching (dakwah) and remains relevant in literary works within a modern context.

In the modern world of mass communication and rapid development of information technologies, media article headlines play an important role, performing the functions of attracting attention, interest, informing, and guiding the reader. Creating unique and effective headlines is a key task for authors, as successful headlines not only emotionally impact on the audience but also increase reader activity, promote search engine optimization, and determine the tone and context of the material. The study of phraseological units in the headlines of online publications is relevant due to their ability to convey complex ideas and emotions in a concise form. Phraseological units reflect the linguistic and cultural characteristics of a society; therefore, a comparative analysis of Ukrainian and Polish headlines allows for the identification of specific features and common trends in these cultures. The analysis of the use of phraseological units helps to understand the communicative strategies of journalists and editors, as well as contributes to the development of the theory of media broadcasting and the practice of creating headlines. The use of phraseological units in headlines stimulates innovation in both linguistic research and practical journalism. The purpose of this article is to conduct a linguistic and socio-communicative analysis of the use of phraseological units in the headlines of Ukrainian and Polish electronic media. The study was conducted using contextual, typological, and descriptive methods, as well as discourse analysis and content analysis. The sample consists of materials from Ukrainian and Polish electronic publications, which made it possible to identify common and distinctive features in the use of phraseological units. The results of the study demonstrate examples of headlines with phraseological models such as «verb + noun in an indirect case + adverbial modifier», «verb + preposition + noun», and others. Phraseological units in article headlines are a powerful tool that significantly affects readers’ perception of the material, demonstrating the richness of linguistic culture and the importance of emotional context in communication.

This study explores the impact of incorporating the stylistic method and diverse pedagogical approaches on students' understanding and appreciation of literary works, specifically focusing on the works of Charles Dickens. This research used a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative methods such as observation, surveys, and text analysis with quantitative methods involving statistical analysis. The quasi-experimental design selected undergraduate students purposively based on their literary background, with Charles Dickens' notable works serving as key resources. Pre and post-tests are administered to experimental and control groups to measure the impact of language style instruction. Results indicate that the experimental group, exposed to language style teaching, outperforms the control group in post-teaching comprehension tests. Studies show that teaching students about language styles helps them unlock the meaning of literature. Questionnaire data demonstrate high student satisfaction, increased confidence, improved critical thinking, and enhanced analytical abilities. The adaptability of Dickens's novels to various learning styles contributes to a more inclusive learning environment.

Vesna Parun's poetry collection Vjetar Trakije was published in 1964. It is related to the Bulgarian part of Parun's civil and creative biography. It abounds in longer poems and miniatures united by Parun's poetics of Mediterraneanism and neosymbolism. As one of the stylistic markers of poetic speech in the poems' formation, we singled out the imaginative reflection that shapes parts, and sometimes entire poems. It is one of the points of poetic discourse, i.e. its content and style. In this paper, we will analyze reflection as an expression that is not as such represented in traditional theories of literature, but is derived from philosophy (Cassirer) and individual literary theoretical analyses (Freidenberg, Stamać). Its imaginative performance rests on pictorial syntax and semantics, and its meaning is based on the mental presentation of the subject world in the poem. This study aimed to analyze female existentialism in Helen Garner's "Monkey Grip" using a descriptive qualitative method. In this context, the data obtained were carefully reviewed, presented, and analyzed through stylistic analysis. The results showed that female existentialism was expressed in two patterns. Firstly, the female speech was similar to the male, accompanied by the open expression of sexual desires and male circle words. Secondly, female actions contained the feminine movement to overcome discrimination problems and interact with many males. I demonstrate an approach fostering inventive interpretation of short stories in Literary Studies and higher education generally. It involves constructing an 'assemblage'—at its simplest, an evolving network of unusual connections for creative outcome. The assemblage of this article combines freshly located research literature, directly and indirectly related to a story's themes, and/or the personality type of protagonists. Importantly, this assemblage also utilizes text analysis software revealing the relatively invisible (e.g. (in)frequent words, parts of speech, and topics) and Large Language Model (LLM) Generative AI to enrich the interpretation. The use of all these elements helps productively exceed initial intuitions about the story, facilitating creativity. I model the approach using Edgar Allan Poe's short story, The Black Cat , whose protagonist is a homicidal psychopath. Specifically, the assemblage here includes relevant software-based research (a corpus analysis of homicidal psychopathic language), non-software-based research (psychoanalytical literary criticism of The Black Cat using the empirically validated concept of transference), text analysis software (WMatrix and Datayze), and the LLM Generative AI, 'ChatGPT' (using the freely available LLM GPT-3.5). One use of this approach is as a pedagogy in Literary Studies employing text analysis software (e.g. on a digital stylistics course). Yet given creative adaptability is a key 21st-century skill, with digital literacy—including the use of Generative AI—an important contemporary competence, and with the short story genre universally known, I highlight too the utility of this approach as a university-wide pedagogy for enhancing creative thinking. Stylistics, a sub-discipline of applied linguistics, examines the aesthetic aspects of language style within texts, particularly literary ones. While it is often used to explore the linguistic beauty of the Quran, it is less frequently applied to Prophetic Hadith texts. This study aims to analyse Hadiths that contain conversations between the Prophet and his companions, known as the Qauli Hiwari-type, related to exemplary practices (Afdhal al-‘amal), in Sahih Bukhari. Textual analysis was applied using phonosemantic analysis to examine letter combinations in words and ascertain their meanings related to these practices. The findings reveal five exemplary practices in the Prophet's Hadiths as narrated in Sahih Bukhari, hierarchically arranged to reflect their significance: belief in Allah SWT and His Messenger, and performing prayers punctually, which are fundamental to Islam, followed by kindness to parents, Jihad fi Sabillillah, and performing Hajj Mabrur, subject to individual limitations and capacities. This study demonstrates that phonosemantic stylistics can effectively analyze the linguistic style of religious texts, particularly in discerning meanings embedded in letter combinations, and shows that Hadith texts can be examined through stylistics with appropriate guidelines. This essay considers Laurence Sterne's sentences from a Lacanian point of view. My argument parallels the disordered utterances that drive the narrative of Sterne's novel, The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman and the framing of psychoanalysis. Its structure as a swarming address to an enigmatic, shifting listener (the essayistic digressions, evasions, and precisions that aren't precisions) recalls the disordered speech of a patient arriving in analysis with an unmanageable, disordering symptom; in the case of Shandy and Sterne, the ‘vile cough' of tuberculosis. Throughout many free-associative sessions, the patient maps out the undislodgeable hard pan of the symptom. By tuning in to areas of anxiety in discourse, the analysand becomes a kind of ‘artist of the symptom’, reappropriating and converting it from a source of disorder to an ordering principle - a sinthome, in Lacan's punning neologism. What cannot be cured must be enjoyed: this is precisely what the author-narrator dyad of Tristram Shandy manages, converting the narrator's cough into the motor of the novel's grammar, syntax, and punctuation; and making the novel the fencing piste for its author-narrator's duel with a symptom that can't be defeated, its distinctive dash being their shared rapier. This paper aims to show how concepts and analytical methods of systemic functional linguistics can work congruently with other human practices to improve outcomes for those undergoing the suffering around loss of meaning and the absence of purposeful, self-directed experience. Based on a two-decade collaboration between linguists and psychotherapists in Sydney, Australia, and using the tools of text linguistics as developed by Michael A. K. Halliday and Ruqaiya Hasan in systemic functional theory, the paper presents an indicative selection of intense exchanges between traumatized persons and therapists (centrally the experience of ‘Ruth’). The level by level linguistic descriptions of these exchanges offer opportunities for understanding how progress in the clinical interaction might be achieved. The descriptions can also be evaluated against the theoretical claims of psychotherapy in psychiatry – in particular, the emphasis of the Conversational Model of Psychotherapy developed in England and Australia by Robert Hobson and Russell Meares, whose characterization of disorders involves an emphasis on ‘co-ordination’ and ‘cohesion’ within frontal lobe activity of traumatized patients. In this way the paper also explores conceptual parallels and intellectual antecedents shared between the Conversational Model and Systemic Functional Linguistics, contributing to the broader intellectual history of the human sciences.

AbstractThe dialectic book of "Aljavāhir Li- Maserrat-ul-Khavātir" is a mathnavi written in 759 verses on the jewels debate with each other to show their superiority. This work is composed by Basiri in his journey to Roman city on 907 Hejira calender. He presented it to Ottoman king Bäyazīd or his boy, king Mohammad. There is only one manuscript (No. 10143) of this book hold in Marāshi Najafi library. The text is handwritten by Nastaliq calligraphy with fantastic headlines and golded tabular pages. The present descriptive- analytical article was done by using of library references to, firstly, analyze the manuscript features and, then, describe its thematic, literal and linguistic style. Results showed that in respect of writing style, it follows the styles common on 10th and 11th centuries. Its thematic style involves debates or discussions on gemology, instructive and moral issues and the poet's life story. The author's ethical attitude and his life circumstances disclose some hidden aspects of his life. From a lexical viewpoint, it includes some new coined or less applicable words, as well as extensive using of gemology- related words. Homonymy, anagram, metonymy, simile, phonotactics, letterplay especially to prettify, reference to verses and poems of the precedent poets are some techniques used by the author to make his work tuneful and more affluent.

Investigations on kidungan, a form of traditional Javanese poetry, have been gaining momentum. However, there is a lack of comprehensive reports exploring the value of Javanese cultural wisdom in relation to social dimensions, symbolic politics, and educational values as reflected in kidungan. This study aims to address this gap by delving into the social dimension, symbolic politics, and educational value embedded in traditional Javanese poetry, specifically in kidungan ludruk. The research data for this study is sourced from ludruk performances broadcasted by Radi Republik Indonesia (RRI) East Java and expert interviews. The data collected were then analyzed using qualitative descriptive techniques, employing an ethnolinguistic research approach. The findings of this study revealed that ludruk kidungan serves as a social representation of traditional society, encompassing various aspects of social dimensions, symbolic politics, and educational values. An important implication of this study is that kidungan has the potential to contribute to the development of sustainable knowledge, particularly in the fields of culture, politics, and education.

Between analysis, revision and popularization. The history of literary theory according to Lubomír Doležel This study focuses on one of the most central leitmotifs in Lubomír Doležel’s lifetime work, the history of literary theory. This leitmotif offers an opportunity to follow the development of a substantial part of the work delivered by one of the most prominent theoreticians of Czech origin. Hence this leitmotif is followed from the author’s early involvement in analyses of contemporary and historic linguistic concepts, through his analyses of concepts based on the traditions of formalist and structuralist poetics and aesthetics, to his insights into post­modernist and post­structuralist theoretical issues. The study is based on the author’s studies and monographic works of which Occidental Poetics: Tradition and Progress, published in 1990, is the most highly acclaimed in the international context. All the concepts and terms used in the study are viewed and analysed in the broader context of the development of Doležel’s own theoretical work.

The article undertakes a conceptual analysis of the challenges associated with translating works from the Corpus Areopagiticum, a collection of theological treatises attributed to Dio­nysius the Areopagite from the 1st century. However, these works are unequivocally associat­ed with early medieval Eastern Christian mystical-theological thought, presumably from the turn of the 5th—6th centuries. These texts first appeared in the Slavic Orthodox area in 1370, and subsequent translations emerged at the end of the 17th century, in the 18th and 19th centuries, and, most recently, in contemporary times. The authors introduce a set of criteria that facilitate the differentiation of the analyzed texts into distinct types of text transmission, namely transposition, retelling, and translation. These criteria are founded on factors such as the dominant translation strategy, the approach to the source language, and the textual tradi­tion. The primary research methodology involves a diachronic analysis of linguistic material, employing comparative, stylistic, and textual analysis within the theolinguistic paradigm. The hypothesis posited in the article is substantiated based on empirical evidence. Moreover, the article draws conclusions regarding the impact of general linguistic changes on the nature of translations. This includes shifts in the role and status of the Church Slavonic language, the conditions contributing to the formation of a new literary language, and the inevitable influence of broader cultural and civilizational factors. The paper also explores the tradition of translating otherness, a practice that persists in contemporary times.

Since the emergence of Hiplife as a musical genre in Ghana, it has enjoyed some scholarly attention, focusing primarily on issues pertaining to its evolution as a blend of Hip hop and Ghanaian Highlife genres, as well as how it employs linguistic resources involving code-switching and proverbs to comment on social issues. In this study, I approach the Ghanaian Hiplife genre from a stylistic perspective by focusing on the narrative perspectives Ghanaian Hiplife artistes use in conveying their messages to listeners. From the analysis, it was found that the artistes, in most cases, adopted the autobiographical, third-person and multi-perspectival narrative approaches where the narrator combined either the first-person or the third-person narrative technique. Also, the artistes used multimedia approaches, dialogue, cantor-response, and apostrophes in the songs. The study concludes that Hiplife artistes use traditional narrative perspectives as the initial tools and then adopt other narrative perspectives to be innovative, kill boredom and have lasting stylistic effects on listeners. The study provides a window for literary scholars to be more open to approaching literary analysis as modern creativity transcends the traditional purviews of point of view into more adoptive modes for stylistic effects.

This essay adopts a stylistic approach to delineate the various—and varying—pragmatic effects inherent in the use and interactions of pronouns in Ford's war prose. Ford's singular use of pronouns is shown to be instrumental in his practice of literary impressionism. In particular, the omnipresent second person is granted a variety of referents that coexist along a "continuum of reference" (as defined by Bettina Kluge), from a "you" that is speaker-oriented to one that is addressee-oriented. Sorlin's intersection of Kluge's continuum with a gradient from personalisation to generalisation (2022) is illuminating when examining the manifold significance of Ford's use of the second person, as it brings to light its ethical impact. Ford's war essays shift from the general to the particular and from the collective to the individual in a manner that opposes propaganda rhetorics. Furthermore, the gradient established by Sandrine Sorlin to account for the pragmatic effect of "you" also proves remarkably useful when applied to the pronoun "one". Scrutinising the interplay between these various pronouns allows us to investigate the multifarious relationships that Ford establishes in his war essays between the persona, the reader, those he often called "my men", and the collective ethos of wartime Britain. It is possible to investigate how meaning is created in folkloric texts in a variety of ways, as well as how the values represented are shaped within the context of the meaning created. The folklore discourse can deal with stylistic concepts like foregrounding, repetition, deviation, and parallelism. The method under consideration is closely related to the cohesion and coherence of folklore discourse and, consequently, folkloric texts, and it aids in illuminating the functionality of folklore. In the context of folklore as discourse, cohesion essentially refers to the stylistic compatibility of folklore's (folkloric content) modes of expression. Contrarily, coherence refers to the use of the content in question in a manner that is consistent with one another in terms of usage and meaning. The study of the compatibility and relationships between signifier and signified in folkloric content belongs to the field of stylistics and calls for the use of stylistics-related data. According to this viewpoint, stylistic data can be used in a variety of fields, including folklore, as stylistics aids in highlighting the distinctive features of folklore content. Folklore has a discourse and a style within this discourse; an analysis of the style tends to show how the functions of the folklore's content are carried out. Exactly at this point, the connection between folklore and stylistics is established. Stylistic analysis of the relationship in question can be done on the textual (signifier) and contextual (and signified) levels. It is necessary to use stylistics data by modifying it for the field in order to study the relationship between folklore and stylistics on both the textual and contextual levels. From a semantic standpoint (since style creates meaning), it would be appropriate to assess the methodological data of stylistics related to language in folklore discourse in this regard. The establishment of a connection between meaning and style through the use of stylistic concepts from a semantic perspective enables the text to be analyzed on various (both signifier and signified) planes; naturally, this permits the concept of foregrounding to be used as a hypernym. Due to the way that foregrounding expresses the examination of a text on both the expression and content planes, it reveals how the meaning is produced in both the surface and the deep structure as well as how folkloric values are communicated. In the context of folklore discourse and folkloric texts, the concepts of cohesion of foregrounding and coherence of foregrounding can thus be positioned. Since the concepts of repetition and parallelism are essentially a part of foregrounding, the concept of coherence of foregrounding in the context of folklore enables the analysis of the form of expression of folklore through the concept of the form of expression. According to Bascom, this situation highlights the role that folklore plays in entertainment and education. On the other hand, the coherence of foregrounding activates the idea of the form of content by illustrating how folkloric values are expressed to one another as folkloremes and how meaning is created. At this point, stylistics reveals the intricate structure of the roles that affirm culture and uphold customary behavior. In this study, the fundamental ideas of stylistics were used in a semantic plane to show how meaning is produced in folkloric texts and the coherence of folkloric texts. Additionally, the logical relationship of folkloric values with each other in a formal plane and stylistically was analyzed. In this study, the logical relationships between folkloric values in a formal plane and stylistically were investigated, and the basic concepts of stylistics were used in a semantic plane to reveal how meaning is produced in folkloric texts and the coherence of folkloric texts. This study explores the language used in reporting political headlines conducting a rhetorical stylistic analysis. It is based on showing the effect of the rhetorical stylistic relations in news reporting. The aim is to investigate the structure adopted in reporting political news. It argues that the rhetorical stylistic devices are necessary and applicable to non-literary texts, i.e. political headlines to evaluate language use in the representation of non-literary texts. The analysis was carried out on data selected from the British broadsheet The Guardian and the American New York Times newspaper headlines. The data were examined and subjected to a contrastive analysis incorporating rhetorical and stylistic tools to discern how they are united to achieve the main purpose of language use, i.e. to persuade and grasp the reader's attention. It was found that the two newspapers tend to employ sentence structures differently in terms of nucleus and satellite relations demonstrating the significant part in a sentence. Examples of the deviation strategy of foregrounding were primarily established in the New York Times to maintain the reader's attention about the content underlying the different strategy of the two newspapers to report war circumstances. The relationship between real and fictional letters in the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries has been the source of much critical debate. Disagreement surrounds the extent to which the increasingly popular genre of the epistolary novel drew on the practices and techniques of actual correspondence. On the one hand are those who see epistolary fiction as developing out of real‐life letters, with some literary‐stylistic additions. On the other hand are those who reject this teleological approach in favour of one that emphasizes the functional versatility of the letter in the period, and the difficulty, if not impossibility, of drawing a distinction between its real and fictional incarnations. This relationship between real correspondence and epistolary fiction is brought into sharp focus by the genre of the letter‐writing manual, which rose sharply in popularity from the last two decades of the seventeenth century onwards. Concentrating on John Hill's The Young Secretary's Guide (1689), Thomas Goodman's The Experience's Secretary (1699), and G. F.'s The Secretary's Guide (1705), in particular, in this article, I suggest that the style of the letter‐writing manual from this period can, with caution, be compared with that of the epistolary novel. I pay particular attention to the ways in which letters in these manuals respond to and quote from each other and the often subtle ways in which they thus incorporate different voices. This polyvocality is taken further in Samuel Richardson's manual Familiar Letters (1741), which, as is well known, provided the raw material for his first novel Pamela; or Virtue Rewarded (1741). I demonstrate that some of the stylistic techniques which would prove crucial to the great epistolary novels of the later eighteenth century, including Richardson's, can be found, at least in embryonic form, in the letter‐writing manuals of the Restoration period. The history of Monshaat genre dates back to the pre-Islamic era. The genre was dominantly used by the court secretariat who were interested in using Arabic words and structures, complexity of writing and using words, and the use of figures of speech. However, Monshaat genre underwent significant changes in middle of the period due to the social changes. This study tried to explore the evolution of the literary genre in the Qajar period and see the impact of court secretariats on the change from the simple style to complex style. It used a descriptive-analytical method. The data were collected from the selected sources and other library resources related to the subject. Then, the data were analyzed considering the stylistic aspect of Monshaat at linguistic, literary, and visual levels. The stylistic analysis of the Monshaat genre showed that there are remarkable differences between the Monshaats at the beginning of the period and the end of the period in terms of language, literature, and image. The language has changed from high complexity in using language, using Arabic words and expressions, and applying long and complex sentences, to simplicity and using Persian words. In literary criticism, both the context and the content of a given text; speech, graph, image, or picture are essential. It is the totality of these two elements that pave the way for a better understanding of any given text. Hence, since the purpose of every communication or speech act is comprehension, this study examines the stylistic profile of Wole Soyinka and Jean Pliya in The Lion and the Jewel (1964) and La secrétaire particulière (2001) respectively. The study adopts the French ‘explication de texte’ technique as its methodology to carry out a textual analysis of the two selected plays. As a theoretical framework, the study uses Edward Said and Homi Bhabha’s Postcolonial theory which interrogates the effects of the interactions between the centre and the margin with the view to reconstructing the worldview on matters of history, race, identity, and culture. Findings reveal that in resisting colonial domination and imposition, the two African playwrights take advantage of linguistic manipulations in the composition of their literary texts. With the application of transliteration, direct translation, proverbs, figures of speech, allusions, lexical borrowing, and grammatical and phonemic corruption, the writers are able to foreground their intention to postcolonialize and africanize their literary works. This paper enquires into SHEN Dan's interdisciplinary studies especially at the intersections of three apparently distinct disciplines, i.e. stylistics, narratology, and translatology, by focusing on her prolific international publications. First, it investigates how she combines linguistics and literary criticism and enriches stylistics through innovating linguistic models and proposing new critical concepts; secondly, it explicates how her approach of combining stylistics and narratology to the study of narratives has contributed to the development of both disciplines; thirdly, it discusses how her taking the combined interdisciplinary approach to fictional translation studies has remolded translatology from both disciplinary perspectives, and shows how her translation studies has retroactively transformed literary stylistics and narratology. It concludes from a semiotic point of view that Shen has theoretically and methodologically blazed new trails in the study of language and literature, broadened stylistics, narratology, and translatology by promoting their interactions, and offered insights into further interdisciplinary studies. This study focuses on one of the most central leitmotifs in Lubomír Doležel’s lifetime work, the history of literary theory. This leitmotif offers an opportunity to follow the development of a substantial part of the work delivered by one of the most prominent theoreticians of Czech origin. Hence this leitmotif is followed from the author’s early involvement in analyses of contemporary and historic linguistic concepts, through his analyses of concepts based on the traditions of formalist and structuralist poetics and aesthetics, to his insights into post-modernist and post-structuralist theoretical issues. The study is based on the author’s studies and monographic works of which Occidental Poetics: Tradition and Progress, published in 1990, is the most highly acclaimed in the international context. The aim of the article is to analyze the reproducts of the Russian language included in the posts of Polish Internet users written in Polish. In order to achieve the above goal, a total of over 400 texts containing metalinguistic operators were collected. The obtained results lead to the conclusion that phrasemes of Russian origin in most cases carry emotional and expressive connotations and are used for humorous purposes. The choice of linguistic means largely contributes to the consolidation of the negative stereotype of Russians in Poland, who are perceived as primitive, coarse, vulgar, stupid, backward and prone to alcohol abuse. The analyzed texts show a stereotypical image of Russians characteristic of posts written in the years 2012–2017. It can be assumed that in connection with the events of 2022, this image has changed significantly for the worse. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper builds on Pager-McClymont's model of pathetic fallacy to show how its converse can equally impact narratives and readers' or viewers' perspective of texts. The link between pathetic fallacy and its converse is established, and an identification method is provided. Examples from literature and multimodal texts are provided to explore how the converse of pathetic fallacy is featured in texts and the effects it can have on narratives, especially characterisation. With the use of Conceptual Metaphor Theory, findings show that the mappings good is dark and bad is light (the reverse of the known conceptual metaphors good is light and bad is dark) are prevalent in several instances of PF's converse, rendering them non-novel mappings despite the lack of research surrounding them. In the works of Annie Ernaux, the alliance of desire and disobedience (which I borrow from Georges Didi-Huberman) crystallises a commitment driven by indignation and sustained, as it was in Camus's oeuvre, by a creative revolt against both the indignities endured by the dominated and the government's shameful acts towards them, as well as against the State's disengagement from public services and any instance of declinist discourse. Annie Ernaux's opposition to power transcends mere protest : reminiscent of Camus, who remains a great inspiration, a positive energy 'for' rather than merely 'against' drives her quest for truth, her belief in the exercise of freedom and her fight for dignity. Her engagement against all forms of injustice (whether it be French migration policy, the treatment of the Yellow Vests by the French authorities or the pension reform of 2023) confirms her role as a key protagonist of the re-politicization of the anti-capital movement. If Jean-Luc Mélenchon symbolises a form of counter-power, Ernaux, on the other hand, embodies the power of desire and boundless imagination. This study aims to explore the elements of consistency and harmony in the poem The Land by Mahmoud Darwish. The major components of textual grammar are examined, highlighting the creativity of language in producing endless sentences. It essentially deals with the compositional structures and the elements of their formation at both the surface and deep structures. The descriptive and analytical approach is adopted to achieve the purposes of the study. The results show that the factors of dispersion, discontinuity, and anxiety help to achieve the elements of consistency and harmony. Such factors are shown to generate poetic connotations as well as the textual balance between motives and goals on the one hand and aesthetic meanings on the other. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Since stylistics is concerned with studying styles, the present paper is an analysis of the styles in selected poems. Style is grasped by analyzing the choice and use of stylistic devices; therefore, this study investigates the lexical items and the figures of speech in two English and Arabic pastoral poems, namely Matthew Arnold’s The Scholar Gipsy and Kahlil Gibran’s Al-Mawakib. These poems share the same theme which is nature. Both idealize nature by praising it as being a source of imagination and inspiration. Yet, the poems also describe a city in a different description. Therefore, contrast is the style adopted in pastoral poetry and it is achieved by manipulating some stylistic devices. The study adopts Leech and Short's (2007) checklist of stylistic markers as a framework for analysis. The findings of the analysis show great similarities in using the same stylistic devices in a contrastive manner in both poems with differences only in the frequency rates.

The paper presents the analysis of the most frequent linguistic and stylistic means for expressing ethnocultural heterostereotypes in Serbian electronic media. The analysis has been conducted on concrete linguistic excerpts from Serbian electronic media. The paper aims to show characteristics of linguistic and stylistic means for expressing ethnocultural heterostereotypes. The research is a contribution to journalism stylistics. The most frequent linguistic means of ethnocultural heterostereotypes in Serbian electronic media are phraseology with ethnics and metaphors. The analysis of newspaper texts in Serbian digital media showed common choices of phraseology as expressive linguistic means, used to attract and sustain attention. The use of phraseology with ethnics makes factual newspaper text more expressible and draws attention, which also has an impact on shaping ethnocultural stereotypes among readers. In reports and columns, which belong to the publicistic genre, journalists use linguistic and stylistic means for expressing ethnocultural heterotereotypes not to reinforce stereotypes, but to encourage readers to rethink established ideas about other ethnocultural communities.

Research in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) has increased in in terms of teaching and learning forms, methods and materials over the past decades. The globalisation of knowledge sharing and communication within the academic community, and the inclusion of marginalised higher education and research institutions, has resulted in an ongoing evolution of many terms related to EAP. Nevertheless, underexplored areas of EAP research and practice remain, including that of “academic style”, a necessary integration of EAP and academic writing teaching and practice. The study then presents a pilot study consisting in the detailed qualitative analysis of a collection of abstracts from a PhD seminar on academic style (self)proofreading. By employing a methodological framework uniting stylistics, error analysis, and the categorisation of specific areas of interest, the pilot study highlights relevant stylistic errors in academic writing and draws conclusions on the requirements and implications of introducing academic style to EAP.

The Melawi Malay community has a rich tradition of medicine using oral literature in the form of mantras, passed down through generations. These medicine mantras incorporate elements of beautiful sound and reflect the ecological, customary, and cultural values of the Malay people. This research aims to unveil the sound patterns and describe the symbolism of the triadic ecological elements, namely nature, nurture, and culture. To achieve this, purposive sampling was employed to select key informants, with Su Usnah, a traditional healer from Bina Karya, Melawi, being a crucial source. Through interviews and field notes, six relevant data sets were extracted from a pool of 15 available medicine mantras for analysis. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, this research utilized stylistic protocols to categorize the data according to existing sound patterns and employed ecocriticism guidelines to reveal the presence of ecological elements within the Melawi Malay medicine mantras. The primary findings of this research disclose the existence of four sound patterns in these mantras: assonance, alliteration, consonance, and rhyme. The ecocritical perspective reveals that each mantra contains ecological elements, including nature, such as flora and natural elements; nurture, reflecting the relationship between nature and society, and human connections; and culture, as manifested in customary practices. This study deepens our understanding of the sound patterns and ecological elements present in these mantras, with the hope that further research, through exploration of mantras in the Melawi Regency, can contribute to the continuous conservation and promotion of oral literature. Enriching the global understanding of mantras from linguistic, literary, and ecological perspectives is vital in practising traditional medicine in Melawi and other regions in West Kalimantan.

The article depicts the image of hunters in memoirs of those who used to hunt. There has also been done the attempt of analysis of the linguistic and cultural creation of hunters in the world presented in “The Happy Days “ by Stafan Badeni and “ Memoirs of Hunters “ by Julian Ejsmond.The analysis of the excerpted parts shows that in both works the image of the hunter is complex. The writers point out that the final and total score of the hunting is not the main purpose of the hunter. Both writers signify strong feelings and emotions experienced in contact with the nature, spending time with people sharing the same passions, cultivating centuries- long traditions and the observation of the St. Hubert cult in particular; emphasize also the uniqueness of experiences witnessed only by those connected with hunting. Analyzing the linguistic creation there have been used various stylistic devices (epithets, idioms, metaphoric expressions , images preserved in culture).

Through a linguistic-literary study we deal with recognizing and explaining the characteristics of the Tzotzil story "Pepench'uch". Our objective is to explore the aspects that make up the narrative structure of the indigenous tale from the perspective of narratology and from the perspective of stylistics. We make special reference to literary creation as a starting point to observe the worldview of the Tzotzil culture in its oral traditions and in its linguistic expressions. The acceptance of this form of analysis of the stories that arise directly from the indigenous popular narratives can favor a new perspective of the studies of literature and language teaching from the same Mexican indigenous culture.

The article studies the role that the conceptual metaphor plays in reconstructing the image of Switzerland. On the material of the literary and historic guidebook The Russian Switzerland by M. P. Shishkin the semantic and stylistic features of metaphors, which are peculiarly encoded definitions of the author’s conceptual meanings, are described. The goal of the paper is to identify the techniques of how the image of Switzerland is conceptualized in its Russian representation. The metaphor’s modeling role is considered on the language and concept levels, a special meta-meaning of the image of Switzerland is registered; it is related to the author’s self-awareness in the space of the foreign culture, to his attempt to comprehend the history of the 20th century through the lens of the conceptual dialogue of cultures. The author’s metaphorical range was analyzed by means of continuous sampling; further, the systemic character in using metaphors in creating the image of Switzerland was revealed. The connection between metaphor and meta-poetic principles of work is noted, the functioning of metaphor in different discourses, related to the history and culture of Russia, is considered. This research is relevant due to the interest of the philological science to the phenomena associated with the thought processes, in particular, on the example of texts that generate artistic and journalistic elements, an interconnection between the author’s thought and the specific nature of the linguistic representation of conceptual meaning of history and culture can be observed. The author’s principle of “coupling” and “combining” is addressed not only in the organization of the textual space (as a genre feature), but in creating a number of conceptual metaphors, which are essential for the thorough understanding of historical reality, its reference points, truth and fallacies through the lens of a certain individual. In the context of M. P. Shishkin’s oeuvre the meta-literary component of the metaphorical models has a special value (space, mirrors/deflection, artefact metaphor).

This essay is concerned with the representation of bodies in J. G. Ballard's Concrete Island (1974), a rewriting of Defoe's Robinson Crusoe (1719). Specifically, it posits that the body in Ballard's novel is first and foremost a narrative cue in a constructivist sense: readers are trained to recognise that whenever the text makes appeals to the body, they are to understand this as a counter-narrative to what the characters may be thinking or stating in verbal utterances. As a consequence, while we may initially recognise the protagonist Robert Maitland as a Robinson figure who will conquer the concrete island he is stranded on, the text's strong focus on corporeality will dispel this notion quickly, revealing Maitland as on a trajectory towards becoming a heteronomous Friday figure or merging with the more obvious candidate for Concrete Island's Friday, the tramp Proctor. Stylistically, the text privileges this reading through a variety of means, such as ascribing agency to extensions of the body like Maitland's car and persistently foregrounding parallels between Proctor and Friday. In addition to being a very complex and refined language, the language used in Kadare's works finds its primary source of support in everyday speech. The reader himself is the greatest person to witness this. The reader--or, more accurately, the researcher--is the one who is most familiar with the fact that Kadare's works employ not only literary language but also dialectal forms and novel word formations, which occasionally impart stylistic or semantic nuances that differ from those of the standard language word. Thus, he is among the authors who have contributed to the expansion of the lexicon through the addition of new terms and forms. Similar to any other language, Albanian stylistics examines the Albanian language's instruments and expressive potential as well as its discourse structure, styles, and texts from the perspective of secondary linguistic organization. Older words, neologisms, and regionalisms are examples of words with evocative power that can be employed as stylistic elements to give a text or style the right nuances. This research paper's goal was to discuss the stylistic elements found in Ismail Kadare's "Broken April" and "The Fall of the Stone City" books and novels. These elements included phonetic organization--that is, combining words to create a perceptible expressive effect--sound symbolism, word formation as a stylistic element, and word-forming methods. We also include the presentation or samples from Kadare works in the paper's thorough section.
