Girls 14 to 16 years of age, menstruating regularly and with a stabile cycle, were tested every school-day by a dictation in their slovakian language. Mistakes were counted and analysed statistically. The girls were interviewed about their cycle. Their capacity to write down the text correctly was different in the four phases of the cycle (P less than 0,001). Most mistakes were made in the premenstrual phase, results were found in the four days of the menstruum. Divided in terziles according to their capacity, the girls of the best terzile had their optimum in the postmenstrual phase, whereas the girls in the medium and in the lower tezile had their optimum during the menstruation.

A method for quantitative assessment of the microbial density on the mucous membranes in the oral and pharyngeal cavities is described. The results of the assessment are in agreement with the theoretical assumption based on the existence of a natural electrostatic filter. The highest density of microbes is on the tonsils where the positive pole of the filter is situated, so that a synergism between the defensive immunological role of the tonsils and the bioelectric potential pattern is obvious. The microbial densities in the oral cavity are more or less interdependent whereas the findings on the pharynx rear wall are isolated being probably perturbed by repeated swallowing.

302 patients after acute myocardial infarction were followed up. The average age was 52.28 years, the average time elapsed since discharge from hospital to the first examination by an exercise test was 45.35 days. 141 patients went through an out-patients' rehabilitation programme, 161 patients abstained from rehabilitation. The initial values of both groups of patients were identical. On the basis of a two and three-year observation the authors conclude that a low tolerance of physical load and heart volume above 790 ml are among the factors worsening the long-term prognosis of patients after myocardial infarction. The lower mortality of rehabilitated patients is certainly the result of all components of more intensive therapeutic care, surveillance and health education.

The authors investigate the semantic patterns of patients who after a myocardial infarction are taking part in a long-term rehabilitation program. By means of a specially constructed semantic differential they measure and factor-analyze the attitudes of 50 male patients towards 15 clinico-medical concepts. Data from 60 healthy female controls yielded almost identical factor loadings for the stimulus terms, describing obviously the same perceptual structure having a strong temporal component. The spatial clustering of the concept reveals minor particularities which are specific for the view of the postinfarctional patients.
