Active learning methodologies are an excellent educational resource for students. However, effective study techniques outside the classroom are still underutilized. The aim of this study is to carry out a theoretical essay, by means of deductive thinking, that brings the perspective of cognitive neuroscience to optimize selfdirected learning of students. One crucial finding is that memories naturally tend to fade unless there is explicit repetition in contact with the information and exclusive attention to the subject matter. In addition, effective study strategies should engage executive functions to promote active manipulation and association of information. Lastly, learning by teaching is a strategy with the potential to mobilize all these resources. Particularly, the Feynman learning method is a robust strategy supported by an extensive reflective process of information, that should be systematically tested in future work. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To describe the attempts to integrate health economics (HE) into medical education in Thailand. Materials and Methods: A national survey was launched to all medical education centers in Thailand to discern the situation and gaps in HE teaching. Discussions about improving HE education were held among experienced educators. As a result, the HE working group, comprising experienced medical teachers in HE, was initiated with the aim of recommending the essential contents for HE education. The HE working group also helped preparing a HE curriculum and instructional media assisted general medical educators in HE teaching. Distribution of learning materials developed was planned. Results: Results from the survey revealed gaps in HE teaching, including the lack of HE teaching in clinical curricula, inconsistency in teaching standards, and scarcity of teaching materials and resource persons. The HE working group developed a spiral-based HE curriculum for medical training from undergraduate to graduate levels. Moreover, HE study guides were proposed as teaching aids. Additionally, an example to integrate HE into other medical discipline was demonstrated in the undergraduate curriculum of Family Medicine. Workshops "training for the trainers" were successfully arranged twice. All produced materials, including HE essential contents, curriculum, and study guides, as well as teaching experience were shared to the medical teachers in this regard. Conclusion: While a number of efforts had been established to integrate HE into medical education, further attempts are still required to continuously improve HE teaching. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Studying for boards is straightforward, but clinical competence relies on experience and this guide is designed to accelerate that. It's amazing how much one can know, and still not know what to do. This is likely, at least in part, due to the fact that many existing resources are not usually oriented toward the practical aspects of patient care. For instance, a book might say, for traction alopecia, a patient should adopt looser hairstyles, but it might not explain how to counsel a patient on what they need to communicate to their loctician to achieve lower tension. While acing exams and having a strong knowledge fund are necessary, they alone are not sufficient; one could spend all day memorizing the properties and minutiae of sutures, be able to answer every test question about them correctly, and yet still not know what to do when a knot repeatedly slips in a tight area. Boards answers don't always necessarily hold in real-world contexts either; obtaining a DIF specimen perilesionally for bullous pemphigoid (classic exam answer) wouldn't be the appropriate site if there were no bullae. The list of examples of conventional information failing to translate to successful clinical practice are endless. This book provides practical pearls to fill these gaps and emphasizes the areas that are the most crucial for trainees to prioritize early on. It is a compilation of insights from several well-recognized leaders in dermatology and dermatologic surgery. Practical Primer of Dermatology is written in a succinct, conversational style and is a perfect read for residents, medical students, and non-dermatology physicians.

- Abstract
General Surgery Board Review: A Guide to the 99th Percentile is aimed at general surgery residents preparing for the annual in-service training exam and board exam in the United States. It is also appropriate for senior level medical students rotating through surgery and mid-level providers, and it can be utilized as a study guide throughout residency training. This guide offers a comprehensive review of clinically relevant anatomy, pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment, and outcome for each surgical disease process. It provides a fundamental understanding of all surgical specialties, the opportunity for improved clinical performance, and an avenue for residents to reach their potential on yearly in-service training exams and the national board exam. The information is high yield, frequently tested, and can be quickly referenced in the clinical environment, or while taking practice exam questions. In addition, the conceptual basis of both the preoperative workup and surgical approach are underscored, and the rationale behind clinical decisions is emphasized. Dr. Ravi Morchi, MD has experience of over five years of general surgery residency, two years of surgical work in resource-limited environments abroad, and 15 years of clinical experience in emergency care. Utilizing the information in this guide, he achieved the 99th percentile on every yearly in-service training exam as a general surgical resident, and one of the top scores in the nation on the written board exam. This guide provides all of the information on surgical and sub-specialty surgical topics that a resident within the United States is expected to know.

- Abstract
Assessment in veterinary medicine is challenging given the high volume of material and high cognitive load. Differing opinions exist regarding the utility of comprehensive final examinations in veterinary courses. A mixed-methods prospective randomized trial was undertaken with veterinary students ( n = 47) in an elective cardiology course. All students received identical content, which was presented through weekly in-class lectures (eight total lessons). They were given access to four different formats of study aids and completed quizzes of content knowledge within 1 week of each lesson. For the cumulative final examination (post-test), students were explicitly instructed to study only for four out of the eight lessons. Students then completed a delayed post-test 3-6 months after completion of the course. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected in the form of in-depth pre- and post-course surveys. Overall, studying a particular lesson for the post-test resulted in higher scores for six out of eight lessons in the post-test ( p < .05) but did not result in significantly higher scores for any lesson in the delayed post-test. Time spent studying for individual quizzes, as well as other measures of study habits, decreased significantly throughout the semester. Among study aids, student preference was highest for instructor-provided graphic organizers, and this preference persisted across the semester with a shift away from instructor-provided outlines over time ( p = .043). Free-text survey responses showed that students had realistic expectations for the impact of studying for the post-test and appreciated exposure to a variety of study aid formats. In an elective veterinary cardiology course, review of material prior to a cumulative final examination led to improved short-term performance but no difference in retention 3-6 months later.

The purpose of this research is to analyse the process of knowing the plant life cycle, achieved by students during learning activities using educational films and other means of education (study guide, posters, worksheets). This research investigated how the use of the educational film may be capitalized in the teaching activity. The study took place during the Mathematics and Environmental Exploration class, at the lesson on the life cycle of plants. The participants were second-grade students distributed in an experimental group and a control group. The two groups were involved in two tests: an initial one, before watching the film, and a post-test, after watching it. The students in the experimental group received a study guide before the activity of watching the film. After completing the test, they watched the film again and discussed its content with the teacher, using other visual materials and solving some tasks. In conclusion, the use of the study guide associated with the educational film is effective only if the students have previous knowledge about the subject they learn. It is not enough for students to watch the educational film by themselves to understand and learn. To grasp correct representations in the field of Natural Sciences and to improve the thinking skills they need to be involved in active learning activities coordinated by the teacher

- Abstract
Student perceptions of active learning methods in medicinal chemistry education and correlation of those perceptions with academic performance measures have not been well studied. Perceived usefulness of six active-learning activities (study guides, team activities, assignments/quizzes, make your own questions, and two types of in-class live polls) was evaluated by survey. Correlations between perceived usefulness, active-learning activity grade, course grade, first-time North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination (NAPLEX) score, and Pharmacy Curriculum Outcomes Assessment (PCOA) score were examined. Students perceived study guides as the most preferred activity while in-class live polls were least preferred. However, students agreed that all methods were useful to varying degrees. Although no significant correlation was seen between perceived utility of active-learning and course grades, positive correlations were observed between active-learning grades and NAPLEX (0.32), active-learning grades and PCOA (0.311), course grades and PCOA (0.449), and course grades and NAPLEX (0.483). Furthermore, correlation of PCOA and NAPLEX scores (0.456) was in line with previously published studies. Students found active-learning approaches to be useful to varying degrees. Active-learning activity and course grades had moderate, positive correlations with both NAPLEX and PCOA scores, suggesting that these active-learning activities may contribute to success on standardized exams. Our aims were determining the student’s views about the effect of using the study guide on advance preparation in a flipped class setting and testing the effect of flipped class on higher cognition. Using a quasi-experimental design in Tehran University of Medical Sciences, one batch was taught using a flipped classroom and another batch by a lecture in 3 sessions. The student’s views were assessed using a questionnaire, and the effect of flipped class on levels of higher cognition based on Bloom's taxonomy was measured using two tests in two-time intervals. Seventy-two students believed that the study guide helped them to devote their time to study. Data did not support our hypothesis that flipped class could result in higher cognition one month and four months after the intervention T=-0.75, df=197, P=0.45 in knowledge Questions, T=-1.08, df=197, P=0.28 in comprehensive questions, T=-0.30, df=197, P=0.76 in an application, and T=-0.91, df=197, P=0.36 in analytical questions. Study guides could be effective tools to get students to interact with pre-assigned readings in a flipped class context. In the student learning leading in activities related to education at work, as a teaching organization, the teacher plays a great role of importance. As a result of the methodological work of the Chair of Medical Clinic of the Cienfuegos Medical Sciences University, a "Teacher Orientation Guide" has been prepared to contribute to the orientation of teachers with less teaching experience, in the organization of its practical activity set off for the formation of skills during the Clinical Propedeutic course. To achieve this guidance, the actions inherent to the teaching activity have been organized according to their guiding, demonstrative, exercise or control function, and delimited sequentially according to each week of subject program study. In a general sense, the conception of the guide favors teacher work aimed at teaching skills, over activity aimed at teaching knowledge as a priority. It is proposed to use it as a complement to the program of the Clinical Propedeutics subject, specifically enriching its methodological guidelines. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To grasp correct representations in the field of Natural Sciences and to improve the thinking skills they need to be involved in active learning activities coordinated by the teacher. The problem of adaptation of migrants in receiving countries determines the urgent need to find ways to solve it. The article notes that a special role in the process of rooting foreign citizens in a new community plays the study and perception of its history, traditions, language, spiritual values. Particular attention is paid to the development of tests as one of the means of testing the acquired knowledge, and the socio-cultural adaptation. The authors analyze the materials of the manuals and the content of the exam, enabling foreign citizens to study the main events of history, to get to know the host society. Attention is also drawn to the fact that the increase of the cultural level and adaptive abilities of foreigners in the course of training is designed to improve their image in the perception of Russian society, and reduce the potential for conflict, mitigate the existing social tension in connection with the growth of the migration wave in Russia. One of the evidences of the need to find ways to solve integration problems is the growing contradictions between migrants and their host society in a number of Western European countries. In connection with the active migration policy of the Russian Federation, its desire to create legal conditions for the process of integration of foreign citizens, there is a reform of the migration legislation of the Russian Federation, which leads, in turn, to the modernization of textbooks and control and measuring materials (KIMS) on the module «History of Russia» to a comprehensive exam for foreign citizens wishing to obtain a residence permit. It is noted that preparation for the test tasks of this category of foreign citizens requires a more in-depth study of the subject in comparison with migrants applying for a work permit or patent. The article analyzes the content of materials of textbooks and test tasks, the study and understanding of which will allow foreign citizens not only to gain new knowledge, pass examination tests and obtain a residence permit in Russia, but also in the future to identify themselves with the host society. It seems that the consideration of the process of training of foreign citizens as a means of their integration in the receiving countries is extremely important for modern European society. Background and aim: Study guide is a tool for establishing the student-centered learning process. It is an assortment for directing the student in the management of his learning by foreseeing educational obligations, aims and contents. Considering the important role of study guides in students' learning process, the aim of the present study was to explain the point of view of dental students towards the study guide of the oral medicine course. Materials and methods: This study was performed in two phases: 1-compilation of a study guide for the practical oral medicine course, and 2- implementation of the study guide by 73 dental students, evaluation of their point of view towards its items, and also estimation of their level of satisfaction. Results: 48.6% of the participants were completely satisfied, 18.1% were moderately satisfied; whereas, 6.9% were unsatisfied with the study guide. 26.4% of the students had left the open questions unanswered. 71.2% of the students needed some examples for implementing theoretical lessons in the clinical setting. Few students felt the need to know about the role of the department's personnel. Conclusion: A high percentage of the students were moderately or completely satisfied with the study guide. They believed that the study guide has improved their learning process, and has even resulted in higher final scores. Knowing the opinion of students is useful for revision and improvement of the study guide.

Pharmacology ,worksheet ,openhawks ,study guide ,application - Abstract
Successful Pharmacology course completion requires students to mentally overlay complex mechanisms of drug action onto intricate body physiology to make sense of how drugs both correct and cause disease. Unfortunately, many students (undergraduate – health professional) lack the needed study/critical thinking skills required to navigate this complex curriculum. Providing students with lecture content and study guides is only a partial solution as they often fail, alone, to adequately convey the thought structure required for student success. Therefore, this series of application/critical thinking worksheets was developed to demystify, model, and guide students through the critical thinking processes that need to be employed when engaging the Pharmacology curriculum.

Every physician should be comfortable caring for cancer patients, yet medical education in oncology is known as inadequate. Our study explored this issue from an assessment perspective, by determining the representation of oncology and other health priorities in the clinical learning objectives for the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination Part 1 (MCCQE Part 1). The Medical Council of Canada lists objectives for the MCCQE Part 1, based on CanMEDS roles for medical graduate competency. These objectives guide exam question development and can be used as a study guide for learners. Our study focused on the Medical Expert role and mapped the clinical objectives for oncologic, cardiovascular, cerebrovascular and chronic lower respiratory disease. The clinical objectives contained 190 topics under the Medical Expert role. Oncology content was found in 57 (30%), cardiovascular disease in 56 (29.5%), cerebrovascular disease in 21 (11%) and chronic lower respiratory disease in 7 (3.7%). In objectives with oncology content, gastrointestinal cancer (16, 28%), non-specific indicators of cancer (7, 12%) and genitourinary/musculoskeletal cancers (6, 10.5%) were most frequent. Content coding had inter-rater agreement greater than 99%, with kappas from 0.73 to 1.00. Oncology was highly represented in the clinical objectives listed for the MCCQE Part 1. With existing research showing limited oncology content on examinations and in medical curricula, our results were unexpected. This finding could signal the efficacy of initiatives seeking to improve oncology education and emphasizes the importance of continuing improvements in oncology education to meet patient and healthcare system needs.

Designed for one-semester use, this innovative, principles-level text takes a broad 'contextual' approach to economics - including serious consideration of ecological, feminist, and social concerns - while still including coverage of the standard microeconomic concepts and models. Unlike most microeconomics textbooks, which focus exclusively on markets and efficiency, this book starts with the question of human well-being and then examines how economic activities can contribute to, or detract from, well-being. It addresses such critical concerns as ecological sustainability, distributional equality, the quality of employment, and the adequacy of living standards.Like its companion volume, "Macroeconomics in Context", this text includes discussions of historical, institutional, political, and social factors that encourage students to engage with the subject matter. An Instructor's Resource Manual, Test Bank, and Student Study Guide are available on the authors' website for instructors who adopt the text.

The learning model used is based on the material provided and adapted to the situation and conditions in the field. There needs to be a game modification so that students can actively participate in learning volleyball games. The purpose of this study was to see the effectiveness of the small side games learning model on the mobile phone application to increase student participation in physical education. The research method used was an experiment with a control group. Participants involved in the study were 84, subjects in the experimental group are 42 (26 male and 16 female), subjects in the control group are 42 (17 male and 28 female). Instrument in this study include: observation, questionnaire, and forearm pass test. Data analysis used in this study using Excel 2019 by testing the difference in mean (t-test). Number of active students during physical education learning in the control group is 28 students and inactive 14 students. The number of active students during physical education learning in the experimental group was 37 students and 5 students inactive. The results of the effectiveness test show that the learning model of small side games is better for improving volleyball forearm pass skills with the results obtained for t0 7.884 and ttable 1.292 db 82 and α = 0.05. Although this study only focuses on learning basic skills forearm pass volleyball in high schools and there is no control during the effectiveness test, it can be concluded that this application in mobile learning based small side game forearm pass volleyball can be used to increase participation and basic skills of volleyball. Besides, it's easier for teachers or students to receive material either face-to-face or long distance. This study highlights the benefits of SSG because the mobile learning application contributes to the teacher in making lesson plans and as pupils study guide application for implementing small side games in physical education.

- Abstract
En interaktiv lösning över programmet med fi, Background According to teachers for a higher education for a general degree, there is a perceived recurring problem that students who study a three-year bachelor's program do not understand how courses are connected to each other and that courses can be qualifying. What does the problem really look like from a student's perspective? Can what teachers describe be confirmed by students? How do they view their program time, how do they absorb information about their studies and how would they like to receive that information? Aim The purpose of the research study is to contribute knowledge about the type of information students in a higher education program need during their program time. The study's two questions are: What information do students need in order to understand their own program time? How can higher education institutions design information to support students' understanding of their own time in the program? Method The methods for collecting empirical data were questionnaires, semi-structured interviews and document analysis. The three years of the Information Designprogram at Dalarna University, together with documents such as study guides, syllabi, study plan and the information pages that are available to the students, have formed the empirical basis for the study. A total of seven interviews were conducted with students from these year groups. Results The study identified two main themes in relation to how students perceived the program, "Context / Identity" and"Understanding / Relevance". Recurring expressions of misunderstanding of how the content of the program is connected and an uncertainty about its end goal. Conclusion Students need the content of the education to be linked to the final goals of the program and to future working life. The program is perceived as very broad and difficult to grasp and that some courses need a clearer relevance to increase understanding, commitment and motivation. The study guide is a central document that should
