Abstract This work presents the successful manufacture and characterization of bespoke carbon adsorbent microstructures such as tessellated (TES) or serpentine spiral grooved (SSG) by using 3D direct light printing. This is the first time stereolithographic printing has been used to exert precise control over specific micromixer designs to quantify the impact of channel structure on the removal of n‐butane. Activated microstructures achieved nitrogen Brunauer Emmett Teller (BET) surface areas up to 1600 m2 g−1 while maintaining uniform channel geometries. When tested with 1000 ppm n‐butane at 1 L min−1, the microstructures exceeded the equilibrium loading of commercial carbon‐packed beds by over 40%. Dynamic adsorption breakthrough testing using a constant Reynolds number (Re 80) shows that complex micromixer designs surpassed simpler geometries, with the SSG geometry achieving a 41% longer breakthrough time. Shorter mass transfer zones were observed in all the complex geometries, suggesting superior kinetics and carbon structure utilization as a result of the micromixer‐based etched grooves and interlinked channels. Furthermore, pressure drop testing demonstrates that all microstructures had half the pressure drop of commercial carbon‐packed beds. This study shows the power of leveraging 3D printing to produce optimized microstructures, providing a glimpse into the future of high‐performance gas separation.

The Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF; French National Library) recently launched a free comics creation desktop and mobile application, “BDnF”. Designed and produced by the BnF, BDnF is a digital creation tool for making comics and other multimedia stories, mixing illustration and text. BDnF allows users to engage creatively in specific aspects of comics (narrative construction, temporality, space, text/drawing/synergy, etc.). A key feature of the application is its integration of a wide variety of educational and iconographic resources, and in particular of the digital collections of the BnF. Initially launched in French, the English language option was launched in May 2020. This article introduces the application to an English-speaking audience through a conversation with Damien Sueur, Digital Production Manager at the Digital Publishing Department, and Yannis Koikas, Head of the Digital Publishing Department at the Bibliothèque nationale de France.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence, sources, and underlying causes of work-related stress among headteachers in Wales and to identify possible solutions. An online questionnaire was sent to all 1588 headteachers across Wales. The questionnaire included demographic questions, Cohen's Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Management Standards Tool, a list of known stressors, and open questions exploring the underlying causes and possible solutions. A total of 359 (22.6%) headteachers completed the survey. Two-thirds of participants reported experiencing levels of stress that were rated as 'high'. Pressures of managing greater demands and increasing workload with fewer financial resources and a lack of support from local authorities were the main sources of stress. Solutions focused on improved funding to enhance staffing and resources at a school level, reduced accountability, and improved support. The findings indicated that a multi-faceted, multi-level, intervention approach, extending beyond improving personal resilience and individual school improvements, into regional and national opportunities for change, is likely to be most effective in reducing work-related stress within the profession.

A large number of drugs can induce prolongation of cardiac repolarization and life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias. The prediction of this side effect is however challenging as it usually develops in some genetically predisposed individuals with normal cardiac repolarization at baseline. Here, we describe a platform based on a genetically diverse panel of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) that reproduces susceptibility to develop a cardiotoxic drug response. We generated iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes from patients presenting in vivo with extremely low or high changes in cardiac repolarization in response to a pharmacological challenge with sotalol. In vitro, the responses to sotalol were highly variable but strongly correlated to the inter-individual differences observed in vivo. Transcriptomic profiling identified dysregulation of genes (DLG2, KCNE4, PTRF, HTR2C, CAMKV) involved in downstream regulation of cardiac repolarization machinery as underlying high sensitivity to sotalol. Our findings offer novel insights for the development of iPSC-based screening assays for testing individual drug reactions.

Depressive disorders are a worldwide leading cause of health-related burden, and a subgroup of depression patients fail to respond to available psychopharmacological treatments, a condition called Treatment Resistant Depression (TRD). While evidence suggests that both traditional and group (IPT-G) Interpersonal Psychotherapy interventions are efficient treatments for depression, few studies have evaluated the effect of IPT on TRD. Qualitatively analyze an IPT-G intervention conducted with TRD patients using a deductive, theory informed approach, to explore how TDR patients understand, contextualize and apply IPT's problem-areas throughout the course of the treatment. 10 IPT-G sessions were analyzed using Framework Analysis. Sessions were video recorded and transcribed verbatim, and participants' accounts were coded with predetermined, conceptually derived codes that were based on the three main problem areas identified in IPT. Following IPT's main problem areas, three themes were generated: "Mechanisms of change—Improving communication"; "Acceptance of loss"; and "Finding new roles—depression, role transition, and reclaiming life conditions." Our analysis suggests that patients with TRD can benefit from IPT-G. Depression is seen as a chronic condition that deeply affects the lives of patients, and IPT-G was seen as a way of promoting change and regaining control. However, we identified that patients to whom IPT-G did not achieve the same effect in terms of symptom reduction have greater difficulty in acquiring and generalizing new interpersonal skills, and often were immersed in severe family or marital interpersonal disputes. Plain language summary: Six patients with treatment-resistant depression were enrolled in a 10-session Group Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT-G). After intervention, two participants did not show improvement in depressive symptomatology, while four did. Qualitative analysis showed that patients with intense, hard-to-solve interpersonal disputes were identified in the group that did not improve symptomatically, and reported having greater difficulties to engage with IPT-G techniques. Patients who improved progressively found more adaptive ways of dealing with interpersonal disputes, particularly through employing ITP strategies in communication. The findings suggest that solving difficulties in interpersonal relationships may be associated with improvement in depressive symptoms in patients with treatment-resistant depression, suggesting effective change mechanisms and intervention for this population. Interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) is an empirically validated treatment for mood disorders, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, and trauma. IPT is based on the concept of "relational frame"—that an individual's experience of psychological distress impacts those around them, and that their social support network impacts the distressed individual. This concept, along with the specific techniques and tools that flow from it and the theoretical bases of IPT (attachment and interpersonal theory) make IPT unique. In this article we review the theoretical bases of IPT (attachment and communication) and provide a brief history of IPT, as well as the evidence supporting its use for a variety of disorders. We also describe its application to groups, adolescents, and other diverse populations. Future directions for research and treatment development are proposed, particularly research in the area of combining IPT with other psychotherapeutic modalities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) is a relatively brief psychodynamic intervention of approximately 12 sessions focusing on how current interpersonal relationships have contributed to a person's mental health symptoms. Areas targeted for work involve significant role transitions, grief and loss, and interpersonal disputes. IPT is an evidence-based treatment for depression, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorders. Despite these advantages, social work students rarely receive instruction on the delivery of IPT in their graduate programs. The purpose of this project, therefore, was to begin to address this gap by implementing an IPT component in a clinical practice course and testing student knowledge pre- and post-test. An example of sample assignments involving application of IPT to student fieldwork is provided. The sample in this study involved a small number of students enrolled in a clinical course taught in the first semester of the second year of training. Students improved their knowledge score at a statistically significant level. Implications of the study are explored, with the main conclusion being that more clinical majors in MSW programs be exposed to IPT.
