This study seeks to identify the primary objectives of the narratives found in extensive passages of the Qur'an. These narratives primarily serve to guide and enlighten individuals. Moreover, they demonstrate that Islam and its principles are not new phenomena but rather a continuation of the teachings of previous prophets. The narratives aim to recount historical events, and to take a consideration for present and future generations. These narratives also provide a brief history of the ongoing struggle between belief and disbelief, and emphasize the consistent nature of human behavior in this struggle through different ages. By emphasizing the existence, unity, and omnipotence of Allah, these narratives provide evidence that Muhammad, who conveyed them through revelation without prior knowledge of past prophets and communities, is indeed the Messenger of Allah. This study aims to explain the main purposes of these Qur'anic narratives, which are dispersed throughout various works, and to explore why narratives are so prevalent in the Qur'an. The Qur'an functions as the primary source for this study, supplemented by narrative materials from classical tafsir and sirah sources, as well as modern literature. The main objectives of the Qur'anic narratives are presented in bullet points for clarity. The study reveals that, these narratives serve various other purposes in addition to its offering of advice and lessons. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

STORIES in rhyme , *FEATHERS , *DANCE techniques , *REFLEXIVITY , *HAPTIC devices , *CONSCIOUSNESS - Abstract
We offer a dream|dance in visual, metaphoric, and haptic image by engaging creation-centered poetic inquiring as a unique rendering of embodied reflexivity through the arts. Our lyric text, a songscape, framed by the interplay of chorus and storying verse, enacts the movement and mood of a dance. Red threads and feathers, as partners, symbolize the voice and agency of entities becoming within the complex relational-ecologies with whom we live. This songscape advances creation-centered research by demonstrating Whitehead's ontology of becoming—process prioritized over substance—where bodily feelings provide the earthen richness through which images, emotions, hopes, and thoughts emerge. Working from modes of reflexivity within animate paradigms advances relational consciousness by foregrounding agential landscapes, ancestors, psychscapes, and our dependent co-arising. Here, relational consciousness reveals Nature—in all its forms—as a co-creative. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

STORIES in rhyme ,HEISENBERG uncertainty principle - Abstract
This paper proposes a close-reading of 'The Brigand', one of the best-known maqamas in Yehuda Al-Ḥarizi's Sefer Taḥkemoni, in comparison with Al-Hamadhāni's Arabic 'Maqama of the Lion'. This reading proposes that some of the well-known medieval rhymed Hebrew stories are based on uncertainty as a poetic principle and that this principle can explain (and be explained by) the frequent use of contradictory elements and varied forms of the ironic, the grotesque, and the ambiguous. STORIES in rhyme , *SEMIOTICS , *CONCORD , *VOCABULARY , *POETRY (Literary form) - Abstract
The connotation (implicit meaning) is one of the approaches of semiotics that deals with the hidden and deep meanings of texts as systematic wholes and seeks to overcome the appearance of sign systems and reach the underlying layers of the text by relying on the context of the word and the characteristics of the audience. Due to its interpretable and nested structure, Masnavi is apt to be analyzed from this point of view. Through analyzing its implicit meanings, one can understand its cohesiveness and unity, as well as many hidden concepts. This study aims to explain how the implied meanings arise from the appropriateness of words in Masnavi. Therefore, in this study, some of the implicit meanings of Masnavi were investigated and analyzed from two perspectives. The findings of the study indicate that the connotations arising from the appropriateness of the words in Masnavi can be seen in two ways: Firstly, the combination and appropriateness of prominent words of a famous religious and historical event or story in the axis of the verse is reminiscent of that event for the audience and induces another implicit meaning that is also in harmony with the appearance of the verse and the main topic of discussion in the vertical axis of the poem. Secondly, from a famous and related story with his own words, these linguistic signs do not give a secondary meaning to the verse; rather, the presence of those words in several consecutive verses guides the audience to the implicit meaning in all the verses. BUDDHIST philosophy , *BUDDHISTS , *LITERARY style , *STORIES in rhyme , *WISDOM , *WOMEN'S clothing design - Abstract
The Sagāthāvagga, the Book with Verses, and especially its third chapter, the Kosala-chapter (Kosala Saṃyutta), is presented here as a collection of early Buddhist wisdom literature. As the first book of the Pāli Saṃyutta-nikāya, the Book with Verses seems as an anomaly—the other four books contain some of the denser articulations of early Buddhist philosophy in the canon. Thus, scholars question whether the first book, which normally introduces verses with stories, is a real part of the collection. Scholars are also inclined to assume that the verses are the heart of the text and have shown less interest in the work's compelling literary style. This article has three aims: First, it shows how the book, and most distinctly its third chapter, is a form of wisdom literature, with protagonist King Pasenadi of Kosala being comparable to wisdom-kings like King Solomon or Alexander the Great, and anticipating the classic Buddhist wisdom-king Aśoka. Second, it shows how this collection was designed for a performance by storytellers or preachers, suggesting that this is a feature of the Buddhist genre of prose that introduces verses. Third, it demonstrates the organic connection between the first book and the other books of the Saṃyutta. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

STORIES in rhyme , *STORYTELLING , *CONTENT analysis , *SKELETON , *NARRATIVES - Abstract
Pirang is the skeleton of the story. Examining this element is of particular importance in order to explain the general layers of the story, in the current research, this element and its related elements have been investigated in the stories of the single verses of the Qur'an. And the pattern of story telling is provided. And by using the descriptive method and content analysis, it has been shown that single-verse stories are not as complex as their content requires, and the natural order of events is observed in most of the stories, and the events are always in the same narrative. It has happened in a closed and chained manner in such a way that the plot pattern of each story represents a logical and coherent plot; In each story, a difficult situation is raised, and after that, he has used the elements of the story in their place and with a special harmony and coherence; Although, due to the extremely briefness of this type of stories, some plot elements were not present in all the stories or were merged with some other elements, but the main elements are constantly present in all the stories. EPIC literature , *STORIES in rhyme , *PUBLIC spaces , *NATIONAL character , *PRAYERS , *MOSQUES , *CITIES & towns - Abstract
Epics are studied in two categories that are identified as national epics and folk epics in our literature. The national epics are long verse stories of nations about religious, virtuous and heroic adventures with an emphasis on national characteristics. The folk epics are created by folk poets in different themes in their poems. The main purpose of the study is to investigate folk epics. The folk epics are considered as a genre within the poetry of folk poets from past to present. The folk epics include many diverse themes such as military, widow, supplication, illnesses, animals, bigamy, heroism, husband and wife relationship, famine, homeland, fruit, prayer, advice, war, aging. The tradition of folk epics emerged after the first quarter of the twentieth century, especially in large cities such as Istanbul, when the minstrels began reading poetry in coffeehouses. Afterwards, these minstrels started to earn money by printing and selling these poems in the crowded places, paving the way for spreading folk epics. The minstrels who narrated folk epics have mentioned the events that took place in their hometown and throughout the country in their poems, while not making some interpretations to attract attention via improvisation. These epics were sold in public places by printing 1000 or even 5000 issues on papers slightly larger than the standard A4 paper in the printing offices. The public place were generally squares, yards of the mosques, market places, trains during travel and train stations. This tradition was carried out until the beginning of the 1980s. The tradition of folk epics requires the capability to recite poetry is a as having a sweet tone of voice that will gather the people and knowing musical maqams. Those who had these qualities have persisted their tradition of epics for many years. This tradition, which was in demand until the 1980s, could not find a space for itself as a result of the spread of mass media after this date. The present study contains information about the tradition of folk epics and the identified performers in Sivas. The performers of folk epics in Sivas were examined under two headings. The former includes those who write and sell only epic poems. The latter includes those who have not only written poems in the field of folk poetry, but also written and sold only epic poems for a while. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Learn about and celebrate the Day of the Dead! With warmth and energy, this spirited picture book is a joyful ode to family traditions and the memory of loved ones who have passed but whom we continue to remember. It is Día de Muertos—the Day of the Dead—and the family ofrenda is at the center of the celebration! Inspired by the popular nursery rhyme “The House That Jack Built,” The Ofrenda That We Built invites readers to join in the building of a colorful ofrenda, a home altar full of symbols and meaning, one special element at a time. This is truly an intergenerational holiday with deep familial love at its heart. Readers will recognize these moving and universal themes in the hands-on activity of building an ofrenda together, an accessible way of learning more about other cultures and celebrations. Told in warm and welcoming rhyme, with beautiful, immersive illustrations, this is a delight for readers of all backgrounds to enjoy when the holiday arrives each autumn or any time of year that calls for remembrance and connection with loved ones.LA FAMILIA IS LOVE: Every element of the ofrenda speaks to a tradition of togetherness and the enduring importance of community. Combining the poignancy of the past with love in the present, those celebrating Día de Muertos also make a promise to be a part of one another's futures. CELEBRATES THE CIRCLE OF LIFE: Like Pixar's Coco, this is a joyful celebration of Día de Muertos, which encourages us to see death as a natural and necessary part of the circle of life to embrace rather than to fear. With an emphasis on remembering the lives of our loved ones with joy, this holiday makes room for both collective grief and collective celebration—a powerful (and always timely) perspective on the nature of being alive that will resonate with children and adults alike.SPIRITED READ ALOUD: Pairing poetic text full of repetition, rhyme, and evocative description with bright, engaging illustrations, this story is just right for group and lap-reads, sure to appeal to booksellers, teachers, and librarians as well as parents and caregivers.Perfect for:Anyone who celebrates or wants to know more about Día de MuertosParents, grandparents, and caregivers looking for unique fall books for kidsFans of multicultural picture booksGift-givers seeking heartfelt picture books about family and celebration

'Masterful.'– Kirkus, starred review'[A] picture-book charmfest.'– Shelf Awareness, starred review'For viewers who are... dog people or cat people.'– Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books, starred review'[A discovery in] how beings sense the world.'– Publishers Weekly, starred review In this companion book to They All Saw a Cat and Inside Cat, a journey home leads to unexpected adventures for a cat and dog. A playful, imaginative story of friendship, empathy, and discovery by Caldecott Honor winner Brendan Wenzel.Cat and Dog are headed home. A simple route lies ahead of them... or does it? There's so much to see and smell and hear, and the two of them experience the world very differently. A stream, for instance, is watery fun for Dog, but it may not be so delightful for Cat!As their journey becomes an adventure full of unexpected twists and turns, Cat and Dog show that it's possible for two creatures to travel in the world together despite their distinctive perspectives and abilities—and even to appreciate and enjoy them. With the irresistible read-aloud appeal of Brendan Wenzel's They All Saw a Cat, winner of the Caldecott Honor, this is a funny, exuberant companion tale that's an imaginative tribute to empathy, friendship, and understanding.RESPECTING DIFFERENCES: Cat and Dog experience life in almost opposite ways. Through their eyes, children will see how the same situation or problem can be handled differently depending on the perspective and ability of the creature living through it, building their empathy and understanding.DELIGHTFUL VISUALS: This picture book is full of visual surprises and Easter eggs, and readers will love turning back to find details that hint at developments to come on the journey. The dog's and cat's art styles evolve throughout, becoming more developed and exaggerated but ending with a unified style that incorporates both their points of view as their friendship is affirmed and strengthened.ENCOURAGES EXPLORATION: The path home is both a familiar route and a new experience as Cat and Dog make surprising—sometimes unpleasant—discoveries along the way. The subtle message about appreciating the small moments in everyday routines and the possibilities that await when we step outside them is perfect for young readers.BELOVED AUTHOR/ILLUSTRATOR: Brendan Wenzel is a bestselling author, Caldecott Honor–winning artist, and sought-after speaker at schools and libraries. His books They All Saw a Cat, Hello Hello, A Stone Sat Still, and Inside Cat have received multiple awards and starred reviews and are family and classroom favorites.FUN READ-ALOUD BOOK: Rhythmic text coupled with compelling artwork and a comforting ending make this perfect for story time, bedtime, or both!Perfect for:Parents, grandparents, educators, and educatorsPreschool and kindergarten–level readersPet ownersGift givers looking for a fun, interactive family read-aloud bookFans of Brendan WenzelFans of picture books like Hot Dog, The Kissing Hand, What Do You Do With a Problem?, and The Day the Crayons Quit

In his analysis of the forty-eighth gate in Yehuda Al-Ḥarizi’s Sefer Taḥkemoni, David Simha Segal argued that this story “leaves open the possibility of multiple and even contradictory readings” (The Book of Taḥkemoni – Jewish Tales from Medieval Spain, 2001, p. 622) and proposed alternative interpretations of the story. Segal’s argument regarding the nature of this story is in line with my basic assumption that at the core of some of the most fascinating rhymed Hebrew stories from the Middle Ages – in Al-Ḥarizi’s Taḥkemoni, but also in the work of his predecessors, Shlomo Ibn Ṣaqbel and Yosef Ibn Zabara – lies uncertainty as a poetic principle. From this perspective, while addressing Segal’s interpretation, in this article I propose additional interpretive insights. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Harvey the Hippo Meets Mickey Mandarin is a story of gender binary and non-binary new friends making introductions, learning a little background about each other and finding that although they may identify differently, they all still like to play and have fun the same way. The animals are proud to say how they like to be addressed, such as he/him, she/her or they/them.'Harvey the Hippo Meets Mickey Mandarin is a timely and much needed addition to the body of literature for young children. The tale delivers the message of love and the understanding of differences in a tender yet thoroughly unambiguous way. The illustrations are not only beautifully rendered, but also serve to amplify the rhyme. They are gentle and, at the same time, strong and vibrant, serving to engage a child and caregiver in conversation about the characters and the words.'--Toni Seidl, child psychotherapist'Harvey the Hippo Meets Mickey Mandarin is a lovely book for young children and serves as a gentle introduction to gender identification. Using animal characters, it describes how some individuals identify as male, some female and some who feel they do not fit either descriptor. The use of'he/him,''she/her'and'they/them'vocabulary provides the young child with real-world terminology. The book stops there and does not delve into more advanced concepts of sexuality, allowing even the most reluctant parent to become comfortable with introducing these evolving societal norms to their child. It is a fine book for teaching children that everyone--same or different--is wonderful as they are and may become your friend.'-- Laurie Zelinger, PhD, ABPP, RPT-S, board certified psychologist and author of Please Explain Anxiety to Me'If you want to read a book that will help kiddos feel seen, included and celebrated, you will find this story of friendship and community wonderful. Harvey the Hippo Meets Mickey Mandarin is heartwarming, as it uses fun and welcoming language that invites all genders to feel a sense of belonging, even if there are differences.'-- Anna Kiesnowski, psychotherapist Book #2 in the Harvey the Hippo Series From Loving Healing Press

Told from the perspective of a young girl learning to weave, Woven of the World is a lyrical meditation on the ancient art of weaving and what this beautiful craft can teach us.As rhythmic as the swish of a loom, and as vibrant as a skein of brightly dyed wool, this lyrical picture book shares the history and practice of weaving through the centuries and around the world, as imagined by a young weaver learning her craft. Her family's weaving practice helps her feel connected to the past and hopeful for the future. It shows her that each of us is a tapestry: a unique, rich, and beautifully interwoven combination of traits and traditions, with a pattern that is still emerging. At once a celebration of a time-honored art and a meditation on the ways we are interconnected, this artfully woven narrative gathers the threads of weaving as a technical skill, a cultural tradition, and as a metaphor for how our lives are knit together, into a radiantly intertwined whole.WEAVING AROUND THE WORLD: The vignettes in this book give just a few glimpses into the world's countless weaving traditions.
