Water in its three ambient phases plays the central thermodynamic role in the terrestrial climate system. Clouds control Earth's radiation balance, atmospheric water vapour is the strongest "greenhouse" gas, and non-equilibrium relative humidity at the air-sea interface drives evaporation and latent heat export from the ocean. On climatic time scales, melting ice caps and regional deviations of the hydrological cycle result in changes of seawater salinity, which in turn may modify the global circulation of the oceans and their ability to store heat and to buffer anthropogenically produced carbon dioxide. In this paper, together with three companion articles, we examine the climatologically relevant quantities ocean salinity, seawater pH and atmospheric relative humidity, noting fundamental deficiencies in the definitions of those key observables, and their lack of secure foundation on the International System of Units, the SI. The metrological histories of those three quantities are reviewed, problems with their current definitions and measurement practices are analysed, and options for future improvements are discussed in conjunction with the recent seawater standard TEOS-10. It is concluded that the International Bureau of Weights and Measures, BIPM, in cooperation with the International Association for the Properties of Water and Steam, IAPWS, along with other international organisations and institutions, can make significant contributions by developing and recommending state-of-the-art solutions for these long standing metrological problems in climatology.

- Abstract
Due to technical reasons two of ten buckets have to stay empty in the planned SIS100 synchrotron at the GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung. The planned low level RF control systems consist of linear P and PI type controllers. These are responsible to maintain a desired phase and amplitude of the gap voltage. In addition the cavity is controlled to follow a prescribed resonance frequency ramp. In SIS100 the acceleration will be performed by ferrite cavities with comparatively small quality factors. Therefore, effects resulting from transient beam loading have to be expected. Influences due to empty buckets are analysed in the frequency domain and particle tracking simulations are carried out to estimate the effect on the overall system with particular consideration of emittance growth and particle loss.

Background and Objectives: Sports medicine, orthopaedic and rehabilitation physicians use gait analysis and goniometry to evaluate and diagnose patients with neuro-musculo-skeletal diseases. Goniometry is a measuring method that shows the joint’s range of motion. Three-dimensional goniometry has been used in order to assess the patients in a kinematic manner, but they are not affordable, so, phone apps come handy to any orthopaedic or rehabilitation physician so we can have a clear image of the progress made by the patient after the rehabilitation program or should something happen and the patient cannot come to the facility, such as the Covid-19 pandemic, when some orthopaedic and most of the rehabilitation facilities have been temporarily closed. Midstance has been chosen as the moment of the gait evaluation in this paper since it has an important role in stability. The objective of this paper is to figure out if the measurements taken during midstance at the knee joint of the subjects can be statistically significant and used during usual examinations. Materials and Methods: Four groups of subjects: patients suffering from hip, knee, hip and knee osteoarthritis and a control group volunteered their participation, being asked to normally walk while their gait was recorded and uploaded into Angles App – a phone based videogoniometer. Results: Patients suffering from hip osteoarthritis have a higher knee angle on the right side than the ones suffering from knee osteoarthritis, hip and knee osteoarthritis and the control group. Female patients suffering from hip osteoarthritis also presented a more flexed knee than the ones suffering from knee osteoarthritis and the ones in the control group, the knee flexion presenting itself as a compensation mechanism. Conclusion: Video goniometry can help us make an orthopaedic, rehabilitation or neurology database for each assessment with constant updates of the evolution of the osteoarthritis patient’s treatment.

- Abstract
The planned SIS100 heavy ion synchrotron at the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) in Darmstadt, Germany will possess twenty ferrite accelerating cavities in its final stage of extension. During the intended acceleration cycles, the cavities will encounter significant beam loading effects, which have to be handled by the control systems. As both the generator- and beam-current act on the same system input, a feedforward disturbance compensation can be a promising approach to improve beam qualities and suppress instabilities induced by the beam current. Particle tracking simulations, incorporating twenty ferrite cavities and their attached LLRF control systems, are performed to analyse the sensitivity of the beam quality with respect to errors in the feedforward beam current compensation. The main focus lies on the time after injection from a pre-accelerator, where most cavities in the SIS100 do not provide any gap voltage and thus are particularly sensitive to induced voltages by beam currents if the cavities are not or only partly short-circuited.

- Abstract
BACKGROUND The potential benefit of dual antiplatelet therapy beyond 1 year after a myocardial infarction has not been established. We investigated the efficacy and safety of ticagrelor, a P2Y(12) receptor antagonist with established efficacy after an acute coronary syndrome, in this context. METHODS We randomly assigned, in a double-blind 1: 1: 1 fashion, 21,162 patients who had had a myocardial infarction 1 to 3 years earlier to ticagrelor at a dose of 90 mg twice daily, ticagrelor at a dose of 60 mg twice daily, or placebo. All the patients were to receive low-dose aspirin and were followed for a median of 33 months. The primary efficacy end point was the composite of cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, or stroke. The primary safety end point was Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction (TIMI) major bleeding. RESULTS The two ticagrelor doses each reduced, as compared with placebo, the rate of the primary efficacy end point, with Kaplan-Meier rates at 3 years of 7.85% in the group that received 90 mg of ticagrelor twice daily, 7.77% in the group that received 60 mg of ticagrelor twice daily, and 9.04% in the placebo group (hazard ratio for 90 mg of ticagrelor vs. placebo, 0.85; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.75 to 0.96; P = 0.008; hazard ratio for 60 mg of ticagrelor vs. placebo, 0.84; 95% CI, 0.74 to 0.95; P = 0.004). Rates of TIMI major bleeding were higher with ticagrelor (2.60% with 90 mg and 2.30% with 60 mg) than with placebo (1.06%) (P < 0.001 for each dose vs. placebo); the rates of intracranial hemorrhage or fatal bleeding in the three groups were 0.63%, 0.71%, and 0.60%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS In patients with a myocardial infarction more than 1 year previously, treatment with ticagrelor significantly reduced the risk of cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, or stroke and increased the risk of major bleeding. This paper presents a comparative analysis of different battery charging strategies for off-grid solar PV systems. The strategies evaluated include constant voltage charging, constant current charging, PWM charging, and hybrid charging. The performance of each strategy is evaluated based on factors such as battery capacity, cycle life, DOD, and charging efficiency, as well as the impact of environmental conditions such as temperature and sunlight. The results show that each charging strategy has its advantages and limitations, and the optimal approach will depend on the specific requirements and limitations of the off-grid solar PV system. This study provides valuable insights into the performance and effectiveness of different battery charging strategies, which can be used to inform the design and operation of off-grid solar PV systems. This paper concludes that the choice of charging strategy depends on the specific requirements and limitations of the off-grid solar PV system and that a careful analysis of the factors that affect performance is necessary to identify the most appropriate approach. The main needs for off-grid solar photovoltaic systems include efficient energy storage, reliable battery charging strategies, environmental adaptability, cost-effectiveness, and user-friendly operation, while the primary limitations affecting these systems encompass intermittent energy supply, battery degradation, environmental variability, initial investment costs, fluctuations in energy demand, and maintenance challenges, emphasizing the importance of careful strategy selection and system design to address these factors. It also provides valuable insights for designing and optimizing off-grid solar PV systems, which can help to improve the efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of these systems.

Regional development is a priority objective of the EU. Reducing gaps and inequalities between European countries or regions requires coordinated efforts through a regional development policy. To make the implementation of regional political measures more efficient, the European territory was divided into regions according to certain territorial division criteria, NUTS. Considering this context, the paper aims to carry out a socioeconomic analysis at the regional level, using the Tempo Online statistical database of the National Institute of Statistics (INS). For this purpose, indicators were used regarding the labor force, the level of living and economic statistics of the development regions in Romania.

We describe in this paper the best practice used at the Faculty of Engineering in Foreign Languages from the University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest for the introduction of digital logic to the students from the first year of study in the fields of Information Engineering and Applied Electronics, where the subjects are given in English and French. The particularities include the position of the subject in the first year and the wide-ranging backgrounds of the students, which come from a large number of countries. Many disciplines in the computer science curriculum, like as digital design, computer organization and architecture, embedded systems, etc... contain hardware components. The support of the course includes laboratory and homework assignments concluded sometimes with moderate projects and comprises computer simulation or/and practical prototyping. While the laboratory practical prototyping covers usually simple designs using breadboards, when one chooses the simulation as support for a given subject, several decisions should be taken regarding the simulation paradigm, environment and pedagogical methodology. The parameters that should be considered in the selection are on one side the cost and on the other side the learning curve, the insight and the satisfaction the student get in the laboratory. Taking these parameters into account, we chose a sequence of methodologies that help the students to learn digital logic and digital design in a gradual and enjoyable fashion. We start with circuits design and simulation in "Multimedia Logic", a free capture tool developed by Softronics. The next stage is the practice with "Java Breadboard", a free circuit simulator replicating the breadboard hardware development environment, created at the University of York. When the students are familiar with the breadboards and with the digital integrated circuits, they get to the hardware practice, making simple digital circuits on breadboard. Te next stage is to learn how to sold electronic components and how to make simple designs using perfboard.

This article aims to highlight, through a comparative study, the efficiency of steel bracing systems used to reduce seismic vulnerabilities in existing buildings with reinforced concrete structures (reinforced concrete frames and reinforced concrete dual structures, general building structures including those used in transport infrastructure). In order to simplify the calculations, the analysis was reduced to the study of the behavior of resistance lines corresponding to four-, nine- and fifteen-level buildings with the same plane distribution. In order to obtain features similar to those of existing building elements, structures were initially loaded with seismic forces corresponding to code P13-63. The next step was to apply to previously dimensioned structures the seismic loads according to P100-3: 2008 in relation to P100-1: 2013, thus obtaining the deficiencies of the existing structures against the requirements of these norms. Correction of these strength and stiffness deficiencies was attempted by introducing X-shaped centric brace systems. The bracing systems used as consolidation methods are of three types: direct bracings stuck in the reinforced concrete frames and bracings of the indirect type, made of internal and external bracing steel frames. Structural calculations were made in the linear elastic field using the ETABS program.

There were performed experimental researches on vibration of a conical sieve with vertical axle equiangularly suspended by three thin elastic cables both at upper and lower part. The sieve driving was made by a driving mechanism with oscillating slide way through a connecting arm rigidly fixed at conical sieve edge and spherically articulated at the mechanism rod. The paper presents the components of acquisition program and describes the vibrations parameters for several geometrical and functional variants of driving mechanism. Results presented and utilization method of LabView program can be a model for the researchers studying vibrations of equipment working surfaces from agriculture and food industry. The dynamical study of oscillatory motion in the horizontal plane of a conical sieve with vertical axis, suspended in three points, is presented in this paper. The sieve is suspended with three elastic cables, in three points, at the top and at the bottom. The differential equations of the sieve motion in polar coordinates have been determined with Lagrange's equations. The trajectory of the sieve joint point to the acting mechanism was graphically drawn. Analyzing the trajectory of a point on the sieve, some qualitative assessments on material motion on the sieve, in separation process, can be done. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To express the degree of sorting influence on the process of separating a conical sieve (conceived, designed and built by the authors) were plotted regression curves of the experimental data with normal distribution function (equation 1), the number of cases analyzed and some of the graphs of these curves are shown in figura.3 for more size fractions that sort rapeseed, including the original mixture of seeds (d> 2 mm, d=1.6 to 2 mm, d = 1, 25 to 1.6 mm, d <1.25) according to different oscillation frequencies (F1 = 250 osc / min, F2 = 520 osc / min, F3 = 790 osc / min) at the same power output.
