Abstract

This study will evaluate the organizational effectiveness of an artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning (ML) recommender system at a higher education institution. It will determine the positive or negative net benefits (i.e., organizational effectiveness) of utilizing the D&M ISSM. Identifying the value and efficacy of information systems (IS) management actions and investments requires evaluating their success or effectiveness. A system's effectiveness is evaluated from the organizational perspective based on the degree to which it meets the goals of the organization. Although the pandemic has negatively impacted numerous lives and business activities, more leaders considered it an opportunity because it offered new opportunities for business innovation and entrepreneurship, despite it being viewed as the most significant crisis in the modern world. Considering the significant changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the response to it, it is no longer simply considered an option to adopt and use AI/ML systems, but rather an obligation. There is a lack of understanding of the factors contributing to the success of recommendation systems, therefore, these systems are rarely used to their full potential. An analysis of the relationship between information quality, system quality, use/intention to use, and user satisfaction in recommender systems was conducted using a mixed-method approach based on the DeLone and McLean IS success model. Students enrolled in a two-year college who used a portal as part of their academic journey were the target population of this study, and a total of 8,559 participants were contacted to participate, and 305 of them completed the survey. The results of this study indicate that quality factors relate closely to the success of the recommender system as measured by organizational effectiveness. The results indicate that there are statistically significant relationships between the independent variables, Information Quality, System Quality, and User Satisfaction, and the dependent variable, Organizational Effectiveness. However, inconclusive results were found in use and intention to use. The study demonstrated that the IS success model developed by Delone and McLean provides an effective foundation for understanding recommender system success. A strong relationship exists between organizational effectiveness, measured by information quality, system quality, and user satisfaction, as demonstrated by this study.

30. Self-Reference Effect and the Group-Reference Effect in the Recall of Shared and Unshared Information in Nominal Groups and Interacting Groups

Abstract

We investigated how variables that have been studied at the individual level may apply at the group level. Specifically, we examined how the self-reference effect (SRE) and the group-reference effect (GRE) impacted total information recall by examining the difference between interacting groups and nominal groups. Additionally, we also examined how the SRE and GRE might impact upon the recall of shared and unshared information by comparing nominal and interacting groups. Results were supportive for the SRE affecting the total recall of information as well as the recall of shared and unshared information. However, the impact of the GRE on group recall was mixed. Theoretical and applied implications are considered.

Please see the pdf version of the abstract for an accurate reproduction.] Atherosclerosis is a common degenerative disease in which the clinical manifestations are often through stroke or myocardial infarction. Some of the established risk factors for atherosclerosis include elevated plasma low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol levels, obesity, diabetes mellitus (DM) and cigarette smoking. Of the risk factors, an elevation in plasma LDL is one of the most established and the most researched. This is partly a consequence of the deposition of cholesterol within arterial intima being a crucial step in the progression of atherosclerosis, combined with the finding that LDL particles are a major transporter of cholesterol in circulation. Recently there is increasing evidence showing a role of the other major transporter of cholesterol in circulation, chylomicron remnants, in the progression of atherosclerosis. The notion of atherosclerosis as a postprandial phenomenon has been further substantiated by the emergence of evidence showing a direct role of chylomicron remnants in arterial cholesterol deposition. Based on evidence that chylomicron remnants are proatherogenic, the suggestion arises that accumulation of postprandial lipoproteins in plasma may add another dimension of risk to the development of coronary artery disease (CAD). This thesis tests the general hypothesis that individuals with or at high risk of CAD have postprandial dyslipidaemia and that this metabolic abnormality is correctable with a class of lipid-lowering drugs called statins. To test the hypothesis, clinical studies were conducted in normolipidaemic CAD patients, heterozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia (FH) and postmenopausal women with type 2 DM. Abstract

The question of whether or not thermal convection in the earth's mantle is chaotic is addressed. It is suggested that the high Prandtl number/high Raleigh number thermal convection associated with mantle convection is chaotic. To test this hypothesis, the route to chaos in a fluid with infinite Prandtl number is examined, using the Saltzman (1962) equations and the Lorenz (1963) equations. It is concluded that thermal convection at infinite Prandtl number becomes chaotic by means of symmetry-breaking pitchfork bifurcations and the appearance of Hopf bifurcations which produce unstable periodic orbits.

This article describes a hospital unit’s successful central line–associated bloodstream infection reduction project. The focus is on decreasing and sustaining a low rate of infection by targeting improvement in central line maintenance. The Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research’s 5 interacting domains (the intervention, inner and outer settings, individuals involved, and process) were used to guide the selection of 4 Plan-Do-Study-Act interventions. Abstract

This thesis consists of one full-length play, Dandelion, and two shorter plays. Dandelion is a dark farce about a group of people who escape to the "last vacant lot" from a world filled with buildings and pavement. The mad scientist who controls this lot is obsessed with the idea that he can make a brew from dandelions (virtually extinct) which will render humans impotent and stop the growth which is destroying the world. His cohorts include a wife given to burying things, a romantic poet who loves dandelions, a lively lady whose monomania is procreation and a 10-year-old girl who seems to be a representative of the forces of destruction who wants to take over the vacant lot. The play was given a professional performance by the New Play Centre in the Vancouver Art Gallery in 1972. "One Spring Morning" is a light comedy about the chance meeting of a young woman and a middle-aged man at a bus stop. Spring infects them causing the man to become both light hearted and light headed much to his embarrassment, if not sorrow, in another version of the battle of the sexes. The play was presented by The New Play Centre in the Vancouver Art Gallery in June 1972. "The Cliff" is a somewhat blacker comedy about belief, doubt and especially self doubt. A young man marks his twenty-first birthday with profound depression and throws himself off a suicide cliff. Miraculously he survives and is named the new messiah by a group of religious fanatics who have been watching the cliff and hoping for a saviour. Through their worship and his playing the role of a saviour, the young man becomes convinced that he is, indeed, immortal. There is one nagging doubt. One of his disciples is more pragmatic about the need for a leader than about the young man's immortality. To dispel his follower's doubt, the young man leaps a second time from the cliff. He doesn't survive. The play was first presented by the Vancouver Little Theatre in 1970
