4. A constructive replication of client change during psychodynamic treatment in an outpatient setting.

Abstract

We responded to the need for replication in psychotherapy research by extending a prior naturalistic study documenting the effectiveness of long‐term psychodynamic treatment. We employed three novel analytic strategies and evaluated their influence on substantive interpretations offered in the prior study. The sample consisted of clients (N = 387; Mage = 31.61; SD = 11.13; 58.9% female; 79.1% Caucasian/White) receiving outpatient treatment at a psychodynamic training clinic. Results replicated the original two‐class solutions for social functioning, depression and life satisfaction. Novel to the replication analyses, each trajectory for social functioning and depression exhibited nonlinear change and results advanced research on a theorised mechanism of effective psychodynamic treatment. Results showed that change in experiential avoidance was a possible mechanism between early‐treatment change in social functioning and later‐treatment changes in depression symptoms and life satisfaction. Clinical implications focus on the influence that initial levels of symptoms and well‐being may have on early and later phases of treatment, monitoring progress throughout treatment, and how to promote symptom and well‐being improvement. Abstract

Main funding source(s): Ristekdikti Background and Aims The SARS-CoV-2 virus can infect adipocyte cells via ACE2 Receptor thus triggering ACE2 overexpression and cytokine storms which cause lethal complications. Hence, we explore the effect of Perindopril on the expression of ACE2, IL-6, IL-1B TNF-α in adipocyte cultures infected by SARS-CoV-2 spike protein and identify the possible mechanism involved. Materials and Methods Adipocyte culture obtained from a healthy and obese donor was divided into 4 triplicate groups (P0: negative control without treatment; P1: positive control (SARS-CoV-2 spike protein); P2: SARS-CoV-2 spike protein + exposure to Perindopril 0.5 µM); P3: SARS-CoV-2 spike protein + anti-ACE2 antibody 100 µg/mL; and evaluated at 24 and 48 hours. ACE2 expression was evaluated using immunofluorescence. IL-6, TNFα, and IL-1B were evaluated using ELISA. SARS-COV-2 Spike-ACE2 Binding was evaluated using Competitive ELISA. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 25.0 software. Results At first 24 hours of incubation, perindopril treatment has the highest ACE2 expression compared to negative control, positive control and anti-ACE2 antibody (113.52±0.34 ng/mL vs 13.3±0.87 ng/mL, 90.2±2.73 ng/mL, 17.3±0.11 ng/mL, p Conclusion This study showed that perindopril reduces cytokine storm by preventing ACE-2 and IL-6 overexpression via an increasing number of SARS-COV-2 Spike-ACE2 competitive binding in adipocyte culture infected with SARS-COV-2 spike protein. A further clinical trial is needed to prove the benefit of perindopril in obese patients with COVID-19.

Abstract

This study tested hypotheses about client preferences and functioning based on a relational spirituality model of psychotherapy in a sample (N = 101) of adult clients at a community mental health center in the northeastern United States. Most clients wanted to engage spiritual, religious, and existential issues in treatment and this preference was positively related to both spiritual/religious commitment and questing. Clients' ratings of therapist diversity sensitivity were associated with ratings of treatment progress over and above the working alliance. Client spiritual well-being and spiritual struggles predicted their psychosocial functioning over and above mental health symptoms. Clinical and research implications are discussed. Abstract

Spiritual and religious (S/R) competence is an important yet under-studied area of clinical multicultural competence. In a sample of clinicians who attended seminars on a specific S/R group training model, we examined the roles of humility and differentiation of self (DoS) in predicting S/R attitudes and S/R self-efficacy, as well as perceived barriers to implementing this training model in clinical settings. DoS mediated the relationship between humility and S/R self-efficacy, but not between humility and S/R attitudes. Further, four barriers emerged to implementing the presented training model. An apparatus was developed which used diffractively-scattered laser power spectra measurements for determination of exhaust particulate size from solid rocket motors. The apparatus was calibrated by using glass beads and aluminum oxide powder, and then used with success to estimate the mean diameter of the exhaust particles of a small solid rocket motor. Scanning electron microscope measurements of the exhaust particles were employed for comparison and verification. Holographic pictures from burning propellant strands and slabs of different compositions were obtained at different pressures and compared to corresponding high speed, high resolution motion pictures.
