The current article presents the results of a study conducted using the quantitative-corpus analysis of discourse (CADS) based on the theory of social constructivism and the linguistic picture of the world (henceforward LPW). The research examined two text corpora, constructed from available self-presentation texts posted on 415 public relations (PR) agency websites in Poland (this is the largest such study in the country). K1 corpus, where the agency’s name is aimed directly at the communication/PR area, and K2 corpus, where there is no such link in the company name. In the course of the analysis, the authors focus on reconstructing the agency’s self-description and self-presentation (frequency and cross-section through the lexical structure of the corpora) in the context of the communication and demographic profile of the studied PR agencies. The lexical analysis of the corpora also made it possible to identify elements that—in the eyes of market practitioners—are considered essential to professional PR, and thus form the basis of the PR industry’s professional identity.

This article novel research on disinformation conducted by the Central European Digital Media Observatory. We have identified Russian disinformation strategies related to the war in Ukraine and established the extent of their penetration in Central European countries. This international comparison shows that thecountries in question are susceptible to Russia-related disinformation efforts to a highly varying degree. Poland is largely immune to narratives about the Ukraine war and the Ukrainian state imposed by official and unofficial actors connected to the Russian authorities and their supporters. On the other hand, Slovak society is relatively receptive to such sentiments, while Czechs are somewhere between these poles. The use of social media as a source of news contributes to disinformation, but the effect is weak. In all three societies there is a strong, significant influence of individuals' degree of education and material situation. Respondents with post-secondary education and those who consider themselves well off are less vulnerable to disinformation, regardless of their media consumption. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Scientific objective: Reconstruction of the visual discourse of the categories of crisis, crisis management, and crisis communication in the context of the discursive field of modernism. Research methods: Semiotic analysis, and multimodal discourse analysis. Results and conclusions: Reconstructed basic semantics of crisis discourse (threat, uncertainty, catastrophe, helplessness, dehumanization), crisis management (control, process, knowledge, controlling reality), and crisis communication (human, interaction, chaos, spontaneity). Crisis is thus presented discursively in opposition to the dominant semantics of modernism, while crisis management is fully correlated with these semantics. Crisis communication updates both the elements present in the discursive field of modernism and those that are in opposition to it. Cognitive value: The presented paper is, on the one hand, an example of the use of multimodal discourse analysis and semiotic methods for visual communication, on the other it contains important explanations and suggestions for practical aspects of communication (also by specialists) of categories such as crisis, crisis management, and crisis communication.
