Abstract Background Uterine leiomyosarcoma is a rare and aggressive tumour with a poor prognosis. Its metastases to the heart are even rarer, especially to the epicardium. The majority of reported cardiac metastases of uterine leiomyosarcoma were in the cardiac chambers or intramyocardial. Surgical resection of the uterine leiomyosarcoma in the early stages is the only definitive treatment for this disease. However, in the cases of cardiac metastasis, surgery is recommended only in emergencies and patients with expected beneficial outcomes. Case presentation Our patient was a 49-year-old female referred to the Department of Cardiac Surgery for scheduled surgery of pericardial neoplasia. The patient underwent a hysterectomy and adnexectomy three years prior owing to the uterine leiomyosarcoma. A regular follow-up magnetic resonance imaging of the abdomen and pelvis discovered neoplasia in the diaphragmic portion of the pericardium. No other signs of primary disease relapse or metastases were found. The patient was asymptomatic. The multidisciplinary team concluded that the patient is a candidate for surgery. Surgery included diastolic cardiac arrest achievement and resection of the tumour. Macroscopically, a parietal layer of the pericardium was completely free from the tumour that invaded only the apical myocardium of the left ventricle. Completed histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of leiomyosarcoma of the uterine origin. Three months after surgery, the patient received adjuvant chemotherapy with doxorubicin and dacarbazine. One year after surgery, there are no signs of new metastases. Conclusions Strict surveillance of patients with uterine leiomyosarcoma after successful treatment of the early stage of the disease is of utmost importance to reveal metastatic disease to the heart in a timely manner and to treat it with beneficial outcomes. Surgery with adjuvant chemotherapy might be a good approach in patients with a beneficial prognosis. From a surgical point of view, it is challenging to assess the appropriate width of the resection edges to be radical enough and, at the same time, sufficiently conservative to ensure the satisfactory postoperative function of the remaining myocardium and avoid repetitive tumour growth. Therefore, intraoperative histopathology should always be performed.

- Abstract
Given the growing importance of intercultural competence (IC) as part of the know-how of (future) education professionals, the present study sought to develop a tool that would validly assess this competence in the target population. The proposed 9-item instrument, labeled the Brief Test of Intercultural judgment (BTIJ), adopts the format of a situational judgment test (SJT) and targets the ability to accurately interpret others' behavior in the face of cultural differences, as an arguably essential aspect of IC. The test was developed based on Cushner and Brislin's culture-universal assimilator and psychometrically scrutinized with a sample of 245 preservice teachers and education specialists. Item homogeneity surfaced as an issue, yet the test's convergent-discriminant validity was largely confirmed by findings of small-to-moderate positive associations with verbal intelligence, knowledge of different cultures, and experience with foreign languages. Moreover, in a subsample of n=34 participants, the test was positively related (r=0.43) to performance on a real-life task requiring intercultural communication in the educational context. The BTIJ is thus regarded as a promising tool for assessing IC in education professionals, bearing the common advantages and limitations of an SJT-type measure. Recommendations for further investigations and improvements of the instrument are provided.

Background Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a severe psychiatric disorder conceptualised as a disorder of emotion regulation. Emotion regulation has been linked to a frontolimbic network comprising the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex and the amygdala, which apparently synchronises its activity via oscillatory coupling in the theta frequency range. Aims To analyse whether there are distinct differences in theta oscillatory coupling in frontal brain regions between individuals with BPD and matched controls during emotion regulation by cognitive reappraisal. Method Electroencephalogram (EEG) recordings were performed in 25 women diagnosed with BPD and 25 matched controls during a cognitive reappraisal task in which participants were instructed to downregulate negative emotions evoked by aversive visual stimuli. Between- and within-group time–frequency analyses were conducted to analyse regulation-associated theta activity (3.5–8.5 Hz). Results Oscillatory theta activity differed between the participants with BPD and matched controls during cognitive reappraisal. Regulation-associated theta increases were lower in frontal regions in the BPD cohort compared with matched controls. Functional connectivity analysis for regulation-associated changes in the theta frequency band revealed a lower multivariate interaction measure (MIM) increase in frontal brain regions in persons with BPD compared with matched controls. Conclusions Our findings support the notion of alterations in a frontal theta network in BPD, which may be underlying core symptoms of the disorder such as deficits in emotion regulation. The results add to the growing body of evidence for altered oscillatory brain dynamics in psychiatric populations, which might be investigated as individualised treatment targets using non-invasive stimulation methods.

Cyberchondria refers to excessive and repeated online health-related searching, which is associated with increased distress and anxiety. The Cyberchondria Severity Scale (CSS) is the most widely used measure for assessment of cyberchondria, and its shortened version (CSS-12) has recently been developed. The aim of the present study was to develop the Spanish version of the CSS-12 and test its psychometric properties. A community sample of 432 Spanish-speaking adults (67.6% women; mean age = 36.00 ± 15.22 years) completed the Spanish translation of CSS-12 along with measures of health anxiety, obsessive-compulsive, anxiety and depressive symptoms. The Spanish version of the CSS-12 comprises a general cyberchondria factor and four specific factors ('excessiveness', 'compulsion', 'distress', and 'reassurance'). Multi-group confirmatory factor analysis indicated measurement invariance across gender groups. Internal consistency values for the total score and subscales were good to excellent. The CSS-12 showed strong correlations with health anxiety, and moderate to low correlations with anxiety, obsessive-compulsive and depressive symptoms, supporting the convergent and divergent validity of the CSS-12, respectively. In conclusion, these results show that the CSS-12 is a valid and reliable tool for measuring cyberchondria in both genders in the general Spanish population., Author(s): Sandra Arnáez [sup.1] , Gemma García-Soriano [sup.1] , Jesús Castro [sup.1] , David Berle [sup.2] [sup.3] , Vladan Starcevic [sup.4] Author Affiliations: (1) grid.5338.d, 0000 0001 2173 938X, Department [...]

AMG 256 is a bi-specific, heteroimmunoglobulin molecule with an anti-PD-1 antibody domain and a single IL-21 mutein domain on the C-terminus. Nonclinical studies in cynomolgus monkeys revealed that AMG 256 administration led to the development of immunogenicity-mediated responses and indicated that the IL-21 mutein domain of AMG 256 could enhance the anti-drug antibody response directed toward the monoclonal antibody domain. Anti-AMG 256 IgE were also observed in cynomolgus monkeys. A first-in-human (FIH) study in patients with advanced solid tumors was designed with these risks in mind. AMG 256 elicited ADA in 28 of 33 subjects (84.8%). However, ADA responses were only robust and exposure-impacting at the 2 lowest doses. At mid to high doses, ADA responses remained low magnitude and all subjects maintained exposure, despite most subjects developing ADA. Limited drug-specific IgE were also observed during the FIH study. ADA responses were not associated with any type of adverse event. The AMG 256 program represents a unique case where nonclinical studies informed on the risk of immunogenicity in humans, due to the IL-21-driven nature of the response.

Research background. In this study, we investigated the effects of soluble dietary fibre on improving neuromuscular and cardiovascular endurance and perception of fatigue in a closely monitored group of basketball players. Prebiotics have been sidelined in sports nutrition and their effect on performance remains poorly investigated and understood. Experimental approach. Eighteen healthy male basketball players were divided into two groups; one received 17 g/day of soluble dietary fibre (Nutriose®) for four weeks and the other group received placebo. Their morphological characteristics, neuromuscular and cardiovascular endurance, and rating of perceived exertion according to the rating of perceived exertion (RPE) scale were assessed. Measurements were taken before supplementation and after four weeks of supplementation. Faecal samples were collected from all participants immediately before and after the supplementation period, their total DNA extracted and sent for amplicon sequencing. Results and conclusions. In this study, fibre had no statistically significant effect on the vertical-type explosive power, no statistically significant effect on sprint-type explosive power, nor on aerobic and anaerobic endurance in the experimental group. Soluble fibre had a statistically significant effect on reducing the rating of perceived exertion of basketball players during the competitive part of the season (RPE 7.27±0.04 versus 8.82±0.81). This was confirmed by two-way ANOVA with replication, which showed that within-group interaction (p=0.0193), before and after dietary intake (p=0.0049), and between-group interaction before and after dietary intake (p=0.0313) had a significant effect on the result. The overall conclusion of the study is that soluble dietary fibre supplementation does not improve neuromuscular and cardiovascular endurance over a 4-week period. However, fibre supplementation could have a significant effect on reducing the rating of perceived exertion, as shown by the statistics. Both amplicon sequencing and subsequent bioinformatics results suggest that this could be the result of the beneficial effect on the intestinal microbiota and its metabolites. Novelty and scientific contribution. This work highlights the importance of prebiotics in sports nutrition. Dietary fibre has been a neglected component of sports nutrition. This study demonstrated a statistically significant positive effect on the perception of fatigue, highlighting the need for further studies in this direction.

28. Rethinking the Role of Pedagogical Assistants: Establishing Cooperation between Roma Families and Schools in Serbia

- Abstract
The aim of the present paper is to examine the risks and challenges related to the cooperation of pedagogical assistants (PAs) with Roma parents/families and their work with Roma pupils, as well as to offer further insight into ways to overcome these risks and challenges. Roma pupils and parents/families face numerous difficulties in education, which are reflected in prejudice, stereotypes and discrimination. The education policy measure of introducing PAs, formerly known as Roma teaching assistants, to the Serbian education system aimed to contribute to the learning and social participation of Roma pupils and to establish cooperation between school staff and Roma parents. The further segregation of Roma pupils and the reduced engagement of teachers in supporting Roma pupils and fostering communication with Roma parents are seen as possible risks related to the engagement of PAs. In order to minimise the risks, we propose a framework for defining and understanding the roles of teachers and PAs from an intercultural perspective. Relying on two concepts--intercultural sensitivity (IS) and intercultural competence (IC)--we elaborate the necessity of perceiving cultural differences in accordance with an ethnorelative worldview, on the part of both teachers and PAs. In addition, we outline the cognitive, affective and behavioural aspects of IC that we believe teachers and PAs should possess. Further recommendations regarding the engagement of PAs and the minimisation of risks and challenges are proposed.

Ion beam focusing is a pivotal factor for enhancing ion microscopy methodologies. We have concluded the investigation into particle focusing to confirm the zero-degree focusing effect. This involved examining the angular distributions of H+ ions channeled through a thin silicon crystal, utilizing a methodology specifically tailored for this purpose. This phenomenon, fundamental for advancing microscopy techniques, has been experimentally measured and theoretically elucidated. In the process of ion channeling, the particles establish oscillatory motion along the axis of the channel with a period equal to the reduced crystal thickness. The energy of the H+ ions is varied in the MeV range, while the thickness of the silicon crystal remained constant at 100 nm. These experimental conditions involve a reduced crystal thickness which encompasses the first and second rainbow cycles. The aim is to measure the zero-degree focusing effect occurring at the end of the rainbow cycle. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The influence of out-of-plane oscillations on friction is a well-known phenomenon that has been studied extensively with various experimental methods, e.g. pin-on-disk tribometers. However, existing theoretical models have yet achieved only qualitative correspondence with experiment. Here we argue that this may be due to the system dynamics (mass and tangential stiffness) of the pin or other system components being neglected. This paper builds on the results of a previous study (Popov M. et al. Friction, 2016, submitted) by taking the stiffness and resulting dynamics of the system into account. The main governing parameters determining macroscopic friction, including a dimensionless oscillation amplitude, a dimensionless sliding velocity and the relation between three characteristic frequencies (that of externally excited oscillation and two natural oscillation frequencies associated with the contact stiffness and the system stiffness) are identified. In the limiting cases of a very soft system and a very stiff system, our results reproduce the results of previous studies. In between these two limiting cases there is also a resonant case, which is studied here for the first time. The resonant case is notable in that it lacks a critical sliding velocity, above which oscillations no longer reduce friction. Results obtained for the resonant case are qualitatively supported by experiments.

- Abstract
The fermentation process is deeply ingrained in human history, not only for preservation but also for enhancing the nutritional value of foods. In the contemporary context, the surge in global food waste is driving innovative solutions, with surplus bread being explored due to its high rate of wastage. Simultaneously, there is a growing interest in reviving traditional fermentation practices amid modern industrialization. This study seeks to blend these elements by repurposing surplus bread sourced from a local bakery for the production of a fermented kvass beverage containing viable microorganisms. The objectives of the study include recipe development and shelf stability assessment. The development was conducted with the utilization of surplus bread, malted grains, sugar, and orange zest. Shelf stability was assessed through alcohol concentration, viable count of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and fungi, pH, total soluble solids, and qualitative assessment of carbonization levels, observed within different fermentation times, sugar concentrations, and storage temperatures throughout 4 weeks of storage. The study concludes that kvass with 2% sugar stored at 5°C maintained desired alcohol levels with 0.91% (v/v) after 4 weeks of storage and exhibited the most satisfactory levels for carbonation as well as pH. Higher survivability of LAB compared to fungi, especially at lower temperatures, was observed through microbial enumeration. However, challenges persist, particularly regarding sweetness perception, as 2% kvass exhibited the lowest °Brix value. To address this, the potential use of non-fermentable sugars is proposed., Kvass is a traditional Eastern European drink made by fermenting stale bread, usually rye, which gives it a slightly sweet and tangy flavor. Think of it as a natural, mildly fizzy beverage created by letting bread and other ingredients sit together until they transform into a tasty drink thanks to the activity of microorganisms. Motivated by the rising consumer preference for natural and sustainably produced foods, the project aimed to help bring this traditional drink to the market in its original form, just like the homemade version. One that is preservative-free and contains live microorganisms known for their health benefits. Moreover, it aimed to use surplus bread, which is still edible but unsuitable for regular sale, to manage the issue of bread wastage, a product that is the fourth most wasted food globally. While these benefits benefit the consumer from a health perspective, they also introduce complexity to the production process and make standardizing the product challenging. The presence of live microorganisms means they remain active throughout the product's lifecycle and leads to variations in the sensory perception of kvass. When microorganisms are active they use sugars and convert them into acids, carbon dioxide, alcohol, and components that give the product characteristic flavor and aroma. Therefore, the characteristics of kvass vary depending on how long it is stored after bottling. For example, CO2 levels in kvass can continue to increase with longer storage. If these levels exceed what is desirable and the kvass bottle is opened, it can result in a reaction similar to shaking and opening a bottle of soda (although kvass itself doesn't need shaking). Additionally, continued microbial activity can produce more alcohol, which we want to keep within kvass's 0.5-1.5% range. In summary, the goal is to obtain kvass that remains balanced in acidity, sweetness, carbonation, and alcohol content for a consumer, by controlling factors such as sugar quantity
