Aim: Most pregnant women can achieve their caloric and nutritional needs by careful food choices during pregnancy, but there are fairly common situations when pregnant women develop anaemia, which needs to be managed properly to avoid maternal-foetal complications. The main objective of the study was to identify the nutritional factors favoring the occurrence of iron deficiency anaemia in pregnant women.

This article provides an update on the etiopathogenesis of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) in children. T1DM is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by the body's inability to produce insulin. The pathogenesis of T1DM is still not fully understood, but autoimmunity is involved and triggers have been identified. Among the systemic impairment in cystic fibrosis there is also hepatobiliary tract involvement, with some genetic determinants of the disease manifesting as cystic fibrosis-associated liver disease (CFLD). The pathogenesis, natural history and cyrrhogenic evolution of CFLD are discussed in relation to the multiple phenotypes of cystic fibrosis. Asthma is the most common chronic lung disorder and affects approximately 15-20% of the population in developed countries, whereas the rate is around 2-4% in less developed countries. The incidence rates are much higher in children, with roughly 40% of children reporting having a wheezing episode which can turn at some point into asthma. Understanding pathogenesis can help to better treat those patients. The release of these inflammatory mediators is the primary cause of the key feature of asthma – chronic airway inflammation. This in turn leads to the airway remodeling phenomenon, which is seen by the thickened airway walls and hence the narrowing of the air passages, ultimately having a profound impact on the course and chronicity of the condition.
