Two garden plans that feature herbs and fresh greens for the summer and vegetables for the fall are presented. They are inspired by 18th century kitchen gardens which were planted for their medicinal and edible uses.

John Demos, a historian of early America and his wife Virginia Demos who had worked as Erikson Scholar were on a look out for an old house with real history. An old farmhouse built in 18th century having a massive fireplace and built with locally made bricks in an obscure valley of Massachusetts, which was filled with history, met 100 percent of their requirement.
