Zoos and aquariums are perhaps best known in society for their exhibition of wildlife collections and live animal presentations. However, zoological institutions are involved in additional activities such as animal research and education, providing visitors a stronger connection to animals and nature, advocating for roles in environmental protection, and, last but not least, conservation of endangered species with the option, if feasible, to reintroduce them into the wild. This study provides information not only about the origin of zoos and aquariums but also about their changing role in society. The review is based on the book The Ark and Beyond: The Evolution of Zoo and Aquarium Conservation, edited by Ben A. Minteer, Jane Maienschein, and James B. Collins. Hughes, Mark Managing and Leading Organizational Change New York: Routledge, 2019, 354 pages Organizational change (OC) is complex and comes in many forms, typically affects more than one part of the organization, and requires resources and the ability to adapt to ambiguities and uncertainties. In the twelfth chapter, Hughes discusses the importance of communication during OC initiatives. He sets the stage by pointing out that there are many schools of thought and perspectives on OC, and that plenty of myths (i.e., popular beliefs or stories) can be found in the OC literature, some of which have been debunked over the years and alternative narratives ("realities") offered. I believe these are great questions to discuss in a final book chapter about OC because they can further stimulate the reader to not only critically evaluate the academic literature but also reflect on the practical implications of the link between myths and OC outcomes.
