Abstract

A single-layer broadband endfire antenna with high-gain and stable beams based on the spoof surface plasmon polaritons (SSPPs) is proposed in this letter. The amplitude and phase of the surface wave are controlled by asymmetric protrusions on both sides. The anti-symmetric structure is added to balance the upper and lower electric fields while adjusting the impedance matching at the same time. Eventually, endfire radiation is generated with a stable beam to the free space within 5.25-7.94 GHz to form a relative bandwidth of 40.8%. The maximum achieved gain is 11.7 dBi at 7.1 GHz. The experimental results are basically consistent with the simulations. The antenna with high-gain, broadband and a stable beam can be effectively used in wireless communication systems.

Abstract

Using the reaction $^{7}$Li($^{7}$Li,$^{10}$C) we tried to populate states in the tetraneutron. A peak in the energy spectrum of identified $^{10}$C, which we cannot attribute to a reaction with any other of the target components, corresponds to an excitation of the $^{10}$C+4n system of 2.93±0.16 MeV. Under different kinematic conditions an equivalent peak was observed. For a binding energy of the tetraneutron of −2.93 MeV a much larger width than the observed upper limit of Γ<0.24 MeV (mainly due to experimental spread) is expected. Therefore, we favor the interpretation that this peak corresponds to $^{10}$C in the first excited state at 3.354 MeV and a tetraneutron with a binding energy of +0.42±0.16 MeV.

Abstract

Beams that are stable during propagation in a homogeneous and isotropic medium are widely used in optical particle manipulation, communication, metrology, etc. In real life scattering, absorption and diffraction by obstacles produce changes of the beam structure. The propagation of these broken beams is analysed. It is shown that, similarly to the Bessel beams, they are able to reconstruct their original shape after being disturbed by obstacles of relatively small size. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Abstract: The Nuclear Astrophysics program at TRIUMF, particular the one centered around the DRAGON and TUDA facilities, as well as some additional experiments will be discussed. In particular, measurements of the 12C(α,γ)16O, the 26Al(p,γ)27Si and the 40Ca(α,γ)44Ti reactions at DRAGON will be described. For the TUDA facility a measurement of 10B(α,p)13C as a test for the 18Ne(α,p)21Na measurement is presented. The development of the new cylindrical, large solid angle gas detector TACTIC will be described. In addition, new measurements refuting a temperature dependence of radioactive decay times in metals will be presented as well as GEANT4 simulations regarding the β-delayed α-spectrum of 16N will be given. Abstract

An overview of results in fusion studies with stable beams spanning different mass regions and energy ranges is presented. The advantages offered by studying channel coupling effects, involving low-lying excited states of the colliding nuclei, as well as the difficulties in understanding the influence of transfer couplings on fusion, are firstly remarked. The competition of fusion with quasi-fission in heavy systems and the unexpected steep falloff of fusion cross sections at far sub-barrier energies are finally discussed.

Abstract

At ISOLDE, CERN the development of charge breeding techniques is one of the key points for numerous future experiments. We report in this article on the latest online tests of the Daresbury Phoenix booster at ISOLDE. The performances of the continuous mode were investigated for different injected stable beams. Preliminary results were obtained with the afterglow pulsing method and two injected noble gas isotopes.
