12. On Shearing Fluids with Homogeneous Densities

Abstract

In this paper, we study shearing spherically symmetric homogeneous density fluids in comoving coordinates. It is found that the expansion of the four-velocity of a perfect fluid is homogeneous, whereas its shear is generated by an arbitrary function of time M(t), related to the mass function of the distribution. This function is found to bear a functional relationship with density. The field equations are reduced to two coupled first order ordinary differential equations for the metric coefficients, g 11 and g 22. We have explored a class of solutions assuming that M is a linear function of the density. This class embodies, as a subcase, the complete class of shear-free solutions. We have discussed the off quoted work of Kustaanheimo (1947) and have noted that it deals with shear-free fluids having anisotropic pressure. It is shown that the anisotropy of the fluid is characterized by an arbitrary function of time. We have discussed some issues of historical priorities and credentials related to shear-free solutions. Recent controversial claims by Mitra (2011, 2012) have also been addressed. We found that the singularity and the shearing motion of the fluid are closely related. Hence, there is a need for fresh look to the solutions obtained earlier in comoving coordinates. Abstract

The present work is directed towards development of Cu-Ni-Si based alloy for high strength and high conductivity applications. The work consists of the alloy development and their secondary processing (casting, homogenisation, forging, rolling and ageing treatment) to achieve the defined goals of strength and conductivity. The results show that the alloy composition, percentage rolling and ageing temperature do affect the properties tremendously. The highest ultimate tensile strength achieved in the present work is 830 MPa while the electrical conductivity is 31 %IACS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

49. Spray forming of 2014-Al alloy based composites with injection of SiC particulates

Abstract

Aluminiumalloy (AA2014) based metal matrix composites were produced by spray atomization and co-deposition. The mass median diameter and mass flow rate of SiC were varied between 6 and 58 μm and between 10 and 30 wt.% of the melt flow rate, respectively. Microstructures of deposits and overspray powder particles were examined. Porosity and SiC content were measured at different positions in the preform. The fraction of SiC particulates incorporated in the preform varies between 4 and 11 vol.%, which is caused by the low compaction efficiency lying within the range of 30 to 50% of injected secondary particulates. Porosity is observed to increase with increase in deposited SiC content. Optical microscopy shows a uniform distribution of particles in the microstructure. Microstructural examination of overspray powder particles shows that the basic reason for the incorporation of smaller particles is the collision between reinforcement particles and the liquid droplets during flight. The results are presented and discussed in light of process parameters used.
