7. Copper-oxide Nanowires based Humidity Sensor

Abstract

This paper presents investigated results of copper-oxide nanowires used as a humidity sensor. Copper-oxide nanowires films were grown over cross-comb type gold electrodes on a SiO2 substrate using thermal annealing technique, and its humidity sensitive characteristics were investigated through resistance across the gold electrodes. These copper-oxide nanowires films revealed high sensitivity and long-term stability with fast response time. It was found that resistance across gold electrodes of the fabricated sensor decreases with increase in humidity almost linearly on a logarithmic scale. It appears that copper-oxide nanowires can be used as low-cost humidity sensor with high output reliability and reproduction rate. Abstract

Significant technological advancements have been made over several decades that provide options to treat and control life-threatening diseases. One of the most revolutionary advances in this new era is cell [...], Adeno-associated virus (AAV) has emerged as a leading platform for gene delivery for treating various diseases due to its excellent safety profile and efficient transduction to various target tissues. However, the large-scale production and long-term storage of viral vectors are not efficient, resulting in lower yields, moderate purity, and shorter shelf-life compared to recombinant protein therapeutics. The manufacturing of AAV includes several upstream, downstream, and fill/finish unit operations. Cell lysis is one of the key downstream unit operations, where the outer boundary or cell membrane is broken down or destroyed to release viral vector from the host cell. During cell lysis and separation of viral vector from cell debris, viral vectors are exposed to harsh shear stress that aggregates, unfolds, and precipitates virus. In this paper, the authors discuss a novel cell lysis solution that is efficient and generates low foam, making it easy to use. The novel solution also protects the viral vector from shear-induced damage during the manufacturing process, resulting in an improved viral vector titer. The solution is environmentally friendly and biodegradable.

13. One step growth of PVP spheres embedded with nearly monodispersive CdS nanocrystals using chemical bath deposition

Abstract

We have used simple chemical bath deposition technique to grow nearly monodispersive CdS nanocrystals in PVP matrix. Systematic study of variation of growth parameters has revealed that optimized growth of CdS nanocrystals in PVP matrix depends on relative concentration of Cd acetate/Thiourea to polyvinyl pyrrolidone in the bath. It is also observed that higher concentration (1M) of Cd acetate/Thiourea gives rise to smaller NCs compared to lower concentration (0.5M), however density of particles is large in thin film grown using 1M concentration. Scanning electron microscopic studies show that it is a nanoparticulate film of spheres of size around 100-200nm. Further, absorption, energy dispersive spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopic investigations reveal that nearly monodispersive CdS nanocrystals are embedded in 100-200 nm PVP spheres for the range 0.5 M, 1M Cd acetate/Thiourea concentration (figure 1). The effect of varying PVP, Cd acetate/Thiourea concentration, sequence and addition of ingredients and heating/cooling cycles have been studied and results are corroborated with existing theory.

Abstract

Roots of Asparagus racemosus (Shatavari roots) have high contents of calcium, iron, vitamin C and a variety medicinally beneficial compounds i.e. saponins, flavonoids and polyphenols. Taking this fact into consideration the crude powder of dried A. racemosus roots was added in varying amounts (10 to 50 %) as one of the ingredients of maize chips (nachos). Sensory evaluation revealed the best acceptability of chips having 20 % of crude powder of A. racemosus roots. Nutritional analysis revealed that the Z. mays chips containing 20 % of crude powder of A. racemosus roots have low glycemic index, low fat content but have high calcium, iron and vitamin C suitable for persons having calcium and iron deficiencies. 16. Tunable Nanobattery Effect and Negative Differential Resistance Characteristics in Interfacial Polarization-Dominated Al2O3/TiO2 Nanolaminates.

Abstract

We report insights into the interface carrier-confinement-assisted dielectric and electrical properties in atomic-layer-deposited Al2O3/TiO2 nanolaminates (NLs). With progressive thinning of the sublayers down to ∼0.48 nm, the dielectric constant, polarization voltage, bang gap, and interfacial two-dimensional electron gas density of NLs improved due to the enhanced Maxwell–Wagner interfacial polarization and size-dependent quantum confinement effect. The typical current vs voltage (I–V) characteristics of NLs revealed an inherent nanobattery effect and quantum tunneling transport due to the electrical inhomogeneity and carrier confinement across sublayers, respectively. 31. Effect of Different Levels of Potassium and Boron on Growth,Yield and Quality of Carrot (Daucus carota cv. New Kuroda) in Nawalparasi, Nepal

Abstract

The yield and quality of carrot is limited due to the imbalance application of macro and micronutrients. The experiment was conducted at Horticulture farm of Kawasoti, Nawalparasi to assess the effect of different levels of potassium and boron on growth, yield and quality of carrots, during the period from 20th November, 2019 to 5th March, 2020. The experiment was laid out in RCBD design allocating 12 treatments and 3 replications. The treatment comprised of three different levels of potassium (i.e. 0, 50 and 100 kg/ha) and four different levels of boron (i.e. 0, 1.1, 2.2 and 3.3 kg/ha). The variety ‘New Kuroda’ was used in the experiment. The result of present study indicated the significant effect of different treatments on growth, yield and quality of carrot. The maximum plant height (51.67 cm), number of leaves (11.55) , root length (19.37 cm), root diameter (4.81 cm), fresh weight of leaves (81.11 gm) , fresh weight of roots (207.66 gm) and yield per plot (11.10 kg) was observed with the application of Potassium @ 100 kg/ha and boron @ 3.3 kg/ha. Besides, maximum value of quality parameters like TSS (11.50 ˚B), carotene content (6.367 mg/100 gm) and ascorbic acid content (3.720 mg/100 gm) was also observed with increase in levels of potassium and boron, whereas the minimum value for all the parameters were observed from control treatments. Considering these positive and beneficial effects of optimum levels of potassium and boron, it can be concluded that the application of potassium @ 100 kg/ha and boron @ 3.3 kg/ha was found beneficial for carrot production. Therefore, based on the present findings of the study, combined application of micronutrients along with major nutrients was found better for the optimum yield and quality carrot production in Nawalparasi

Abstract

This work reports the correlation of changes in structural and optical properties of a-SiNx:H thin films irradiated with 100 MeV Au8+ at various fluences. Cross-sectional TEM studies show the evolution of discontinuous ion tracks with a radius of 3 nm as the nanoscale structural changes in films. Spectroscopic ellipsometry was used for the extraction of different optical parameters, viz., refractive index, extinction coefficient, Urbach tail energy, and bandgap along with thickness and roughness by fitting the experimental data and modeling the dielectric function with the Cody–Lorentz model. An increase in the Si-N phase was evident, with an increase in the bandgap. Change in the Urbach energy and broadening of oscillator parameters suggest an increased disorder and introduction of defect states upon irradiation. The Wemple–Dedomenico dispersion model was used to deduce dispersion energy to establish a change in thin films' density upon irradiation. The change in the density of thin films is further correlated to the increase in the refractive index. The evolution of various parameters reveals the correlation between changes in optical properties with structural properties down to nanoscale upon swift heavy ion irradiation on a-SiNx:H thin films. 49. INTEGRATED APPROACH FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF COMMON BEAN RUST (UROMYCES APPENDICULATUS) UNDER FIELD CONDITIONS

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted to test the efficacy of different management practices for common bean rust in Chitwan. It was conducted in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with two factors (management practices and the day of spray of fungicides) and three replications. The minimum disease severity was found with azoxystrobin which was at par with neem + garlic extract and maize intercropping + Trichoderma at 50 DAI. The maximum number of rust pustules/cm2 was observed in the control plots (7.56) followed by Trichoderma (4.79), maize intercropping + Trichoderma (3.94), neem + garlic extract (2.77), and azoxystrobin (1.93) at 50 DAI. The maximum percentage of rust colony with necrosis was observed with the control (36.88%) followed by Trichoderma (25.15%) while the effect of azoxystrobin, neem + garlic extract, and maize intercropping + Trichoderma was at par at 40 DAI. Maize intercropping + Trichoderma resulted in maximum plant height (201.56 cm) which was at par with azoxystrobin (197.81). The plants treated with azoxystrobin showed maximum green pod yield at one picking (2411.35 g) which was at par with maize intercropping + Trichoderma and neem + garlic extract. The AUDPC value was significantly reduced by foliar spray of azoxystrobin (88.10). Rust was controlled more effectively when the fungicides were sprayed at 4DAI than 8DAI. Though chemical treatment showed the highest efficacy in disease management, considering environmental and human health, and fungicide resistance, an integrated disease management approach could be adopted for the sustainable management of common bean rust.
