Introduction: The study aims to investigate the antifungal efficacy of albedo extract of Punica grantum on candida albicans by evaluating the inhibitory capacity of alcoholic albedo extracts by disc diffusion method and by comparing the antifungal efficacy of alcoholic extract of albedo with clotrimazole and ethanol. Methods: Using a conventional disc diffusion method, the effectiveness of Punica Granatum albedo extract against Candida albicans was assessed and evaluated depending on the presence or absence of inhibition zones, as well as the average diameter of inhibition zones. Albedo extract of Punica granatum serial dilutions were prepared ranging from 1%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25% and its antifungal efficacy was tested against Candida albicans in comparison with clotrimazole and ethanol. Results: When compared to clotrimazole, the albedo extract of punica granatum showed significant anticandidal activity. The mean zone of inhibition of extract was recorded at 27.6 mm whereas clotrimazole was 21.6 mm and no zone of inhibition was recorded for ethanol. Statistically significant p value 0.015 was recorded within the different dilutions of albedo extract of Punica grantum which is less than 0.05. Conclusion: The present investigation found that Punica Granatum albedo extract had greater potent antifungal activity when compared to clotrimazole and ethanol. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

It is hard to believe that in the 21st century, that too, in the largest democracy of the world, families murder their kith and kin for allegedly saving their honor. In India and some other countries, females in a family are considered as the custodians of the honor of the family. When a woman goes against the family, especially when they marry or elope with their partners belonging to a different caste or community, the members of the family or the community kill them for the sake of defending their honor. This paper makes an attempt to tackle the very important issue of honor killing that is growing in size day by day like a monster untamed. This paper seeks to understand the very concept of honor in killing and then highlights how honor killings are counterproductive. PURPOSE:To compare the diagnostic abilities of vessel density measurements of the optic nerve head (ONH), peripapillary and macular regions on optical coherence tomography (OCT) angiography in eyes with primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) with that of the ONH rim area, peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness and the macular ganglion cell complex (GCC) thickness measurements. METHODS:In a cross sectional study, 78 eyes of 50 control subjects and 117 eyes of 67 POAG patients underwent vessel density and structural measurements with spectral domain OCT. POAG was diagnosed based on the masked evaluation of optic disc stereo photographs. Area under receiver operating characteristic curves (AUC) and sensitivities at fixed specificities of vessel densities in ONH, peripapillary and macular regions were compared with rim area, RNFL and GCC thickness. RESULTS:The AUC (sensitivity at 95% specificity) of average vessel densities within the ONH, peripapillary and macular region were 0.77 (31%), 0.85 (56%) and 0.70 (18%) respectively. Objective: Comparing fixation procedures for managing naso-orbito-ethmoidal (NOE) fractures., Methods: Group A (plate and screw fixation), Group B (Kirschner wire (K-wire) fixation), Group C (absorbable plate and screw fixation), and Group D (No fixation) were formed from 120 NOE fracture patients. The facial injury severity scale, visual analogue scale, CT scans, and clinical examination examined functional and cosmetic outcomes, complications, and postoperative stability., Results: The study found that plate and screw fixation (Group A) had the highest stability and aesthetic results, followed by absorbable plate and screw fixation (Group C). Conservative management (Group D) had the worst outcomes, while K-wire fixation (Group B) had good results but more complications. Results showed substantial differences in functional, aesthetic, complications, and postoperative stability between groups ( P < 0.05)., Conclusion: Plate and screw fixation is the most successful and dependable approach for treating NOE fractures, with superior functional and aesthetic outcomes, reduced complications, and higher postoperative stability than K-wire fixation, absorbable plate and screw fixation, and conservative care. Absorbable plate and screw fixation may function instead of metal. Conservative care should be rare. Objective: The objective of this research was to compare the longstanding stability of single-piece implant systems to typical two-piece systems by analyzing patient records retrospectively., Methods: A retrospective examination of patient records from January 2010 to December 2020 was undertaken at the Department of Oral Implantology, University Hospital. The research included dental rehabilitation patients who got single- or two-piece implant systems. Patient demographics, implant features, surgical procedures, and follow-up results were extracted. Implant success rates, stability defined by resonance frequency analysis (RFA) utilizing Osstell ISQ®, and peri-implant bone loss evaluated by standardized periapical radiographs at baseline and follow-up visits were the main outcomes., Results: The research involved 320 patients (160 per cohort). The average patient age was 52.7 years, with 55% men. The mandibular region received 65% of implants, and the maxillary region the rest. Single-piece cohort A had 94.6% implant success, and two-piece cohort B 96.2%. Implant success rates were similar between cohorts ( P = 0.412). The mean ISQ scores were 72.4 ± 4.8 in cohort A and 74.8 ± 5.1 in cohort B ( P = 0.086). Peri-implant bone loss was 1.8 ± 0.7 mm in cohort A and 1.4 ± 0.6 mm in cohort B ( P = 0.031)., Conclusion: Single-piece implant systems provide a stable and successful alternative to classic two-piece systems. However, patient selection, surgical technique, and monitoring are essential to reduce peri-implant problems and improve clinical results. Background: Dental implant surgery has become a standard procedure for replacing missing teeth, boasting high success rates. However, complications can occur, affecting treatment outcomes. Understanding the nature and frequency of these complications is essential for optimizing patient care., Objective: To assess the prevalence and types of complications associated with dental implant surgery through retrospective research., Methods: Patient records were reviewed, focusing on demographics, medical history, surgical details, implant characteristics, and postoperative complications. Complications were categorized, and statistical analysis was performed to identify associations., Results: Among 150 cases, infection (15.3%), implant failure (8.0%), and peri-implantitis (12.0%) were the most common complications. Complication rates varied significantly across age groups ( P < 0.05), with younger patients experiencing higher rates., Conclusion: Complications in dental implant surgery, including infection, implant failure, and peri-implantitis, are prevalent. Age appears to influence complication rates. Objective: This prospective research directed to estimate the efficacy and safety of different post-operative pain management techniques in oral surgery subjects., Methods: Patients scheduled for various oral surgical procedures were recruited from a single oral surgery clinic between January 2022 and December 2023. Inclusion criteria encompassed adult subjects undergoing elective oral surgery under local or general anesthesia. Subjects were randomly assigned to one of three post-operative pain management protocols: Group A received standard analgesics, Group B received combination analgesics, and Group C received non-pharmacological interventions. Pain intensity scores, analgesic consumption, adverse events, and patient satisfaction were assessed at specified intervals post-operatively., Results: Non-pharmacological interventions demonstrated lower pain intensity scores and analgesic consumption compared to standard and combination analgesics. Additionally, the incidence of adverse events was lower in the non-pharmacological intervention group. Statistical analysis revealed significant differences in pain outcomes among the three groups., Conclusion: This prospective research suggests that non-pharmacological interventions may provide effective pain relief with fewer adverse events compared to traditional analgesics in post-operative oral surgery subjects. A 4.5-month-old female baby, presenting with complete paralysis of right upper limb with typical waiter's tip deformity, diagnosed as Erb's palsy was brought to Sri Ganapati Sachchidananda Hospital. Patient was treated with an integrated approach of physiotherapy and Ayurvedic treatment with an intention of aiding faster recovery of the patient to lead a near normal life. As per Ayurvedic classics, this condition can be correlated to Ekangavata (Vata effecting any one part of the body), which is Apatarpana in nature (diseases with deprived growth of body tissue). Hence, the choice of treatment is Santarpana Chikitsa (nourishing treatment). Santarpana Bahyopakramas (nourishing external treatment modalities) such as Ashwagandhabalalakshadi Taila (Ayurvedic medicated oil) Abhyanga (oleation therapy) and Shastikashali Anna Lepa (application of processed rice paste) were administered along with electrical stimulation (physiotherapy modality), both galvanic and faradic current in three sessions. Appreciable results were observed in the form of reduction of disparity in length and mid-arm circumference of right upper limb compared to unaffected left upper limb and the muscle power too improved from zero to four, facilitating patient to near normal movement.
