Ommo Grupe (1930–2015) was referred to as the 'Nestor of German sport pedagogy and sport science' in various obituaries. The paper considers the life and work of Ommo Grupe, which he dedicated to sports and sport science in West Germany against the background of the development of West Germany until the German reunification of 1989/1990. Grupe represented a common knowledge and sense in West Germany concerning sport and physical education. Sport should be free, human and democratic, united in this spirit, independent of the state and based on fundamental principles as recorded in the Olympic Charter, and on the traditions of European enlightenment and New Humanism. Physical education and sport science as a 'Querschnittswissenschaft' (cross-sectional science) should be taught, researched and established as an interdisciplinary subject in the cultural and academic contexts of life at universities and in schools. This paper considers the development of West German sport(s), sport(s) science(s) and physical education, reflected in the life and work of Ommo Grupe. It is based both on Grupe's books and writings, on original documents, and not least on experiences and knowledge deriving from my own joint work with Ommo Grupe in Tuebingen. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study examined the key roles, responsibilities, and skills sought when advertising for the recruitment of Applied Performance Analysts (APAs) in UK and Irish professional sports settings. Deductive and inductive content analysis of the job descriptions and personal specifications of 130 job advertisements from 2021 to 2022 across the entire APA spectrum was undertaken. This encompassed 21 different specific role titles. Despite unified advertisement formats, noticeable variations emerged regarding length and content focus, regardless of First-team or Academy positions. The findings revealed a greater focus on Sports Performance Analysis (SPA), sports, and technical expertise coupled with professional behaviours in APA advertisements, with less priority shown to relationship-building skills. First-team positions particularly requested more skill-specific analysis expertise. Academy APAs were expected to focus on collecting data, facilitating feedback, in addition to creating and approving infrastructure for various age groups. Comparatively, First-team roles involved more complex data analysis tasks, including interrogating data, trend identification, and stakeholder reporting. The analysis not only highlights role discrepancies but also serves as a potential framework for employers when creating job advertisements, assists applicants in identifying the key skills to highlight, and informs curriculum and training programmes to cover the entire APA spectrum. Introduction: Coaches, practitioners, and leadership in amateur female sport must navigate many obstacles in the pursuit of athlete availability and optimal performance. The present study aims to evaluate opportunities and challenges to both injury prevention and management in amateur female sport, as experienced by mixed-gender coaches, allied healthcare professionals, and general practitioners. Methods: Semi-structured virtual interviews of coaches, allied healthcare professionals, and general practitioners (N = 25), recruited via convenience snowball sample. Data transcribed verbatim with reflexive thematic analysis through a critical realism framework. Results: Female-specific issues, education, and resource capital were challenges to the implementation of injury prevention and management in amateur female sport, thus negatively impacting on performance, prevention, and rehabilitation. Opportunities for improved care for female athletes were developing communication and relationships, outsourcing responsibility, and providing greater education, in response to desires for such, and lastly exposure to elite sport and national governing bodies' protocols. Discussion: In amateur female sport, developing communication pathways and relationships, along with upskilling coaches, can help better support female athletes, coaches, and healthcare professionals. Leaders and stakeholders must advocate for and support greater education, resourcing, and an understanding of female-specific issues in amateur female sport. It is intended that these findings will provide evidence and opportunities for discourse between stakeholders in amateur female sport to improve standard of supports for female athletes, coaches, and healthcare professionals. This study aimed to conduct a kinetic analysis of the lateral and vertical jumps of elite male basketball players through a 12-week axial stability training program to improve sports performance. Thirty elite Taiwanese male basketball players were openly recruited and divided into experimental groups and control groups. The experimental group conducted the test twice a week, a 12-week (24-session) axial stability training program intervention in total, and the control group only received general basketball training. A double-track force plate was used to measure lateral and vertical jumps in order to understand their dynamic parameters. Finally, a difference analysis between the post-test of lateral and vertical jumps was conducted. The results show that the axial stability training program affected the activation of the abdominal and lower limb extensor muscles and had a stabilizing effect on the muscles of the experimental group. When the participants conducted a lateral jump, they were able to stand firm within 1 s and take off instantly. The θ value of the T-PRF ranged from 60.7° to 68.6°. The post-test of the participants' vertical jump showed that the kurtosis of the RFD was steeper, the time required for the RFD was shorter, the GRF and the duration of passage increased, and the experimental group was better than the control group in all post-tests. By comparing the two types of jumps, it was found that they had the vertical force in common. The main differences were in the reaction force of the leg strength, the jump distance and height, and the take-off angle. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Supplemental Digital Content is Available in the Text. Countermovement vertical jumps (CMVJs) can be used for athletic monitoring. When performed on a force plate, biomechanical variables can be obtained to identify factors relating to performance. Commercially available software can be purchased to analyze metrics relating to CMVJs. Users are typically limited to metrics provided by these "black box" setups. However, some commercial products provide export functions for users to manipulate raw data. These programs often require additional components to complete the analysis, which could be cost prohibitive. The purpose of this article is to compare using Excel, MATLAB, R, and Python to analyze multiple CMVJ trials, so practitioners have more control over how metrics are determined rather than relying on the "black box" setup with or without the expense of third-party proprietary software. This guide will introduce Python by presenting a template for analyzing force plate jump data. Strategies for reading files, filtering data, calculating biomechanical variables, graphically representing data, and writing results to a master data file will be discussed. Although the provided script can be used to analyze CMVJ data by itself, it can be modified to include other metrics the practitioner wishes to include in their setting (see Supplemental Digital Content 1, http://links.lww.com/SCJ/A383). The dominance of some Black athletes in some sports after civil rights led scientists and journalists to search for explanations in athletes' culture, geography, psychology, and, increasingly, in their genes—all contributing, whether they landed on culture or biology, to a resurgent race science that invented what it purported to investigate. Science writers could not stop asking whether Kenyans won marathons because of their genes or because of their nation's running tradition, frequently turning to a more fully naturalized gender binary to justify their pursuit of racial difference in sports. The question itself, no matter how it got answered, legitimized the idea that the Black athlete constituted a scientifically valid category, a category that in a society that privileges the natural above the social sciences (and all sciences above the humanities) ultimately entered the public sphere in biological form. There is an ongoing surge of sports science professionals within sports organizations. However, when seeking to determine training-related adaptations, sports scientists have demonstrated continued reliance on group-style statistical analyses that are held to critical assumptions not achievable in smaller-sample team settings. There is justification that these team settings are better suited for replicated single-subject analyses, but there is a dearth of literature to guide sports science professionals seeking methods appropriate for their teams. In this report, we summarize 4 methods' ability to detect performance adaptations at the replicated single-subject level and provide our assessment for the ideal methods. These methods included the model statistic, smallest worthwhile change, coefficient of variation (CV), and standard error of measurement (SEM), which were discussed alongside step-by-step guides for how to conduct each test. To contextualize the methods' use in practice, real countermovement vertical jump (CMJ) test data were used from 4 (2 females and 2 males) athletes who complete 5 biweekly CMJ test sessions. Each athlete was competing in basketball at the NCAA Division 1 level. We concluded that the combined application of the model statistic and CV methods should be preferred when seeking to objectively detect meaningful training adaptations in individual athletes. This combined approach ensures that the differences between the tests are (a) not random and (b) reflect a worthwhile change. Ultimately, the use of simple and effective methods that are not restricted by group-based statistical assumptions can aid practitioners when conducting performance tests to determine athlete adaptations. Plantar stress perception is highly desired in sports science and medical research, with the constraint of external power supply to impede the portability and flexibility in daily life. Triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) opens a new avenue for self‐power sensing; however, a comprehensive sensing of normal and shear plantar stress remains elusive, let alone the further exploration from a mapping perspective. Here, a TENG‐based self‐powered sensing insole is developed for a comprehensive normal‐shear plantar stress mapping among four critical positions. At each position, four TENG units with single‐electrode‐mode triboelectrification are incorporated to decouple the normal and shear stress based on asymmetrical outputs. The insole exhibits excellent static characteristics for plantar stress measurement. Also, it can dynamically capture plantar stress variations to distinguish between different states during a standing long jump, enabling sports performance evaluation and rectification. Moreover, with the assistance of artificial intelligence in signal processing, different abnormal gaits can be precisely identified by the insole, highlighting the potential for disease diagnosis and rehabilitation. To the best of the knowledge, this work is the first demonstration of a self‐powered TENG insole with a comprehensive perception of normal and shear plantar stress perception, holding promise for applications in sports science and medical research. This study investigated the effects of match location, quality of opposition (classified into: strong [1st to 4th position]; intermediate [5th to 15th position]; weak [16th to 20th position]), and match outcome on the match running performance of starters and non-starters from a top elite Brazilian soccer team. Absolute measures were calculated using total distance, high-speed (19.8–25.2 km·h−1), sprinting (≥ 25.2 km·h−1), total distance high-acceleration (> 2m·s2), and deceleration (< −2m·s2) were recorded by GPS units from a sample of young soccer players (N = 25) in a total of 17 matches. Relative measures were calculated by dividing absolute measures by the total duration of the matches. Non-starters covered greater total distance (p = 0.02), sprinting (p = 0.02), high-acceleration and deceleration (p = 0.04), sprinting distance relative per minute played (p = 0.005), and high-acceleration and deceleration relative per minute played (p < 0.001) when the team plays at home, strong opponents, and wins the matches. Starters covered greater total distance in high-speed running (p = 0.04), high-acceleration and deceleration (p = 0.03), and high-speed running relative per minute played (p = 0.04) when the team plays strong opponents and wins the matches. The scope of this pilot study was to assess the feasibility of using the laser imaging detection and ranging (LiDAR) technology for contactless 3D body scanning of sports athletes and deriving anthropometric measurements of the lower limbs using available software. An Apple iPad Pro 3rd Generation with embedded LiDAR technology in combination with the iOS application Polycam were used. The effects of stance width, clothing, background, lighting, scan distance and measurement speed were initially assessed by scanning the lower limbs of one test person multiple times. Following these tests, the lower limbs of 12 male and 10 female participants were scanned. The resulting scans of the lower limbs were complete for half of the participants and categorized as good in quality, while the other scans were either distorted or presented missing data around the shank and/or the thigh. Bland–Altman plots between the LiDAR-based and manual anthropometric measures showed good agreement, with the coefficient of determination from correlation analysis being R2 = 0.901 for thigh length and R2 = 0.830 for shank length, respectively. The outcome of this pilot study is considered promising, and a further refinement of the proposed scanning protocol and advancement of available software for 3D reconstruction are recommended to exploit the full potential of the LiDAR technology for the contactless anthropometric assessment of athletes. The road to the top is never easy. This study investigated whether the career trajectories of top-level men's and women's badminton players could be predicted by their age at first major debut and the time taken to reach the top 150. Data from the BWF from October 2009 to October 2022 were analyzed using a predictive linear regression model with Bayesian inference, adjusting for anthropometric factors. The results suggested that age at debut influences career high rankings among over 120 elite players. Additionally, observations challenged the Matthew effect in early-career success for young players, proposing that inherent talent may be more significant than early nurturing. Taekwondo, a traditional Korean martial art, has gained popularity worldwide and is recognized for its physical and mental benefits. This study investigates the influence of Taekwondo training on the psychological health and anti-frustration ability of college students. The primary aim is to examine how participation in Taekwondo classes affects the psychological well-being and anti-frustration ability of college students. This study utilized a pre-post intervention design, employing the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-20) and the Connor Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC) to assess participants' psychological health and resilience before and after Taekwondo training. Participants completed pre-training assessments, underwent a structured Taekwondo training program, and completed post-training assessments. Quantitative analysis compared pre- and post-training scores to determine any significant differences. Initial findings reveal a significant correlation between Taekwondo training and improved psychological health indicators, such as reduced anxiety and increased self-esteem. Moreover, participants demonstrate enhanced resilience in coping with academic and personal challenges. Taekwondo training emerges as a promising intervention for enhancing college students' psychological health and anti-frustration ability. By promoting physical fitness, self-discipline, and stress management techniques, Taekwondo fosters a holistic approach to well-being.

This study aimed to assess the efficacy, benefits, and prospective impact of sports massage education delivered through a blended learning framework for college students. This study involved 52 male students enrolled in a sports massage course. Using qualitative methodology, this study employed systematic content analysis augmented with numerical data, visually representing user responses to sports massage education combined with blended learning. Analysis of the findings shows that 84.29% of participants showed a positive perception of the overall media aspects, contribution, benefits and potential related to learning sports massage through the blended learning model. In conclusion, this study argues that the integration of blended learning models increases the contribution, benefits, and potential of sports massage education, thereby enriching students' learning experiences. Key performance indicators (KPIs) are commonplace in business and sport. They offer an objective means to link data and processes with performance outcomes. Yet, their application in sports performance, particularly team sports, is not without issue. Here, we review 4 key issues relating to KPI application in team sports; lack of a universal definition, complexity of performance, drifting from on-field performance goals with off-field targets, and agency issues across different key stakeholders. With these issues relating to sports performance KPIs in mind, we propose a complementary approach to help practitioners focus on implementing the conditions that create performance environments and opportunities for success in a complex sporting environment. Ongoing process trackers (OPTs) are quantifiable measures of the execution of behaviors and processes that create the environments, cultures, and conditions for successful performance outcomes. High-performance sport has experienced increasing emphasis on evidence-based practice and interdisciplinarity facilitated by integrating systems science, business management, and a rapidly expanding sport technology landscape. A major limitation of current approaches to performance support is they unduly constrain the conceptualization of high performance within precise boundaries. In contrast, we explore the notion of parallel incrementalism to guide the pursuit and support of athletic excellence. Given this context, we introduce the idea of performance-limiting facors (PLFs) to complement key performance indicators (KPIs) in informing performance support. Whereas KPIs directly influence or describe performance, PLFs are characteristics that indirectly affect performance in their current state. The profound impact of deep learning technology is poised to revolutionize various industries, marking the fourth industrial revolution. Thus, we combined efficiency and productivity research (data envelopment analysis, DEA), artificial intelligence and deep learning (artificial neural networks, ANN), a system integrating DEA and ANNs, and simultaneous longitudinal research (time series) to determine comprehensive research trends and create relevant applications. We addressed mega-sports events' performance assessment systems that predict the efficiency of nations participating in the Asian Games from 1990 to 2023 and analyzed the outcomes, applying them to practical issues of national sports policies and development. Performance assessment systems to diagnose, plan, monitor, and revise the impact of implementing measures in Asian nations represent a step forward. The PAS findings point out future research recommendations by addressing national sports policies and development issues, transforming the predictions of performance assessment systems in mega-sports events into practical management recommendations. In this way, the system for enhanced predictive analytics developed in the study can rapidly analyze large, medium, and small datasets, reveal insights that humans may overlook, and refine the likelihood of predicting future events with greater precision and accuracy. Taxonomy is a classification system that helps researchers conceptualize phenomena based on their dimensions and characteristics. It is an integral process involving a high complexity in understanding a subject classification. This paper aims to represent an update for the taxonomy development of Sports Science and recreational; it contributes to the prescriptive knowledge of taxonomy design and seeks to augment both rigorous taxonomies building and evaluation, including a comprehensive analysis of the expert-assigned keywords with a comparison to Library of Congress Subject Headings. This study employs comparative subject analysis as the methodology for comparing expert-assigned keywords with LCSH. The analysis will identify the similarities and differences in the classification of the taxonomy used in the UiTM Local Content Hub. The subjects used in Sports Science & Recreational Digital Collection in PTAR Local Content Hub are very minimal compared to the structured classification of subjects in the classification web. The study aimed to identify the concept of the physical self and the level of social fears among female students of the College of Sports Sciences and Physical Activity, and the relationship between the physical self and social fears, and to find out the extent of the influence of the physical self and its connection to social fears on female students of the College of Sports Sciences and Physical Activity. The study used the descriptive approach, and the study sample consisted of female students from the College of Sports Sciences and Physical Activity at King Saud University. The sample included (425) female students, who were selected by a simple random method. The study tools included a physical self-esteem scale, a social fears scale, and a data inventory form for female students. The results showed that the level of physical self-concept among the study sample was high, and the level of the degree of social fears was moderate, and it became clear that there was a statistically significant inverse correlation between the total degree of physical self-concept and social fears and their dimensions. This indicates that the higher the level of physical self-concept among female students at the College of Science Sports and physical activity The level of social fears decreased, and it was found that there were no differences according to the demographic variables (specialization - level) for the two scales: physical self-concept and social fears.

The automated processing of this data through machine learning algorithms enables real-time insights and predictive analytics, offering a novel approach to injury prevention. By analyzing the intricate patterns of an athlete's performance metrics, these sensor-augmented wearables facilitate a data-driven strategy for reducing risks of soft-tissue and heat-related injuries. This technology empowers coaches and athletes with actionable insights, fostering a safer and more efficient training environment. Our exploration showcases the transformative impact of sensor-enhanced wearables and automated analytics in elevating the standards of injury prevention and performance optimization in sports.

This study was conducted to investigate the diverse perspectives of English for Specific Purposes Needs of M.A students of Sports Science in Iran based on their language learning needs. A total of 40 male and female students majoring in Sports Science as well as 4 subject instructors who taught ESP at the Sports Science Departments of the universities, took part in the study. The researchers employed a qualitative-quantitative research method encompassing two data-gathering tools: a questionnaire and an interview. Two sets of needs analysis questionnaires were used in this study: the students’ questionnaire and ESP instructors’ questionnaire. Prior to using students’ questionnaire and ESP instructors’ questionnaire for data collection, the questionnaires were piloted and validated. The verbal (tape-recorded) data of the semi-structured interviews were analyzed using descriptive statistics. They were thematically categorized to approve the participants’ reactions to the related items in the questionnaires. Based on what was revealed by the results, the M.A students of Sports Science often lacked the knowledge and key skills needed in their target language knowledge after graduation. They frequently discover themselves incapable of utilizing what they have learned practically. Additionally, ESP instructors expressed that they were also disappointed with the students’ poor writing ability at M.A level. The findings also demonstrated that reading and writing, followed by speaking and listening, were individually recognized as the most vital skills by the participants. Furthermore, the participants expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of translation, writing, and grammar exercises, interesting topics, and pictures in ESP materials.

This paper proposes a new probabilistic method using the tangent function, namely, a new tangent-F family of distributions. It improves the data-fitting ability of its special members by adding a parameter. Some properties of the new tangent-F approach are derived. Based on the new tangent-F method, we study a new interesting probability model called a new tangent flexible-Weibull distribution. We implement the maximum likelihood method to derive the new tangent flexible-Weibull distribution estimators. A simulation study is performed for evaluating the new tangent flexible-Weibull distribution estimators. These estimators are evaluated using two statistical criteria. Finally, we illustrate the new tangent flexible-Weibull distribution by considering two applications (i.e., two data examples). The first data example is considered from sports science. It represents the waiting time until the first goal is scored in different 78 football matches. Another data example is considered from medical science. This represents the survival times of 32 patients affected by acute myelogenous leukemia. Using seven decision criteria, it is shown that the new tangent flexible-Weibull distribution outperforms rival distributions. The results lead to the fact that the new tangent-F method significantly improves the data fitting ability of its special members.

The objective of this paper is to evaluate the research trends in football training for young players under 18 years old in the last 15 years. Materials and methods. This was a bibliometric analysis and systematic review study. Articles published since 2008 were searched for by the keywords "Football Training" and "Football Exercise" using a comprehensive strategy on SCOPUS research journal databases. There were 1,053 articles with 4802 citations mined on October 17th, 2023. Thereafter, 217 articles were selected for further analysis by using VOS Viewer computer software. Results. The United Kingdom (67), The United States (60), and Spain (41) were the three countries that had the most publications in football training. There were 6 keyword clusters that reflected various research focuses on football training for younger players. Based on the top 10 most cited references in football training for younger players, there were several major themes that covered various aspects of the research trend and development in the last 15 years, i.e. (1) Factors in the Development of Young Football Players, (2) Tactical Analysis and Collective Behavior in Small-Sided Games, (3) Game Intensity and Activity Profile in Young Football Players, (4) Plyometric Training and Its Effects on Preadolescent Players, and (5) Injury Prevention and Neuromuscular Training in Adolescent Football Players. Conclusions. Football research for under-18 players has grown rapidly. This research trend shows that football requires not only physical and technical skills, but also social and mental aspects. Further research can be directed toward understanding and integrating holistic aspects of football coaching, including the development of nonphysical skills, such as leadership, teamwork, and conflict resolution. Further investigation into the use of technology in football coaching, such as video analysis, sensor-based performance measurement, and artificial intelligence applications to provide deeper insight into player progress. Introduction: The purpose of this study was to investigate the experiences of sports science graduates working in sports clubs from the view-point of individual experience, environment, and learning in educational background. Methods: Depending on the nature of the research, descriptive phenomenological method was used. Participants in this study were graduates of sport sciences who had been engaged in sporting activities. In this regard, the use of snowball sampling and deep interviewing were used. Sampling continued to reach the theoretical saturation. Results: Accordingly, 8 main themes were extracted: the need for patience, the effort to acquire knowledge and skills, the need for self-confidence, the psychological pressures, the rigidity of the business environment and the workload (obtaining a variety of licenses), the vacuum offered by the curriculum, the quality of engagement of faculty with students in educational processes, innovation in the business process, and the management processes of the faculties of the science of sport. Conclusion: As a result of studying the attitudes and perceptions of graduates of sport sciences on the experiences gained, sport science and business environment showed that the attitudes of graduates to business management was having individual skills and attempts to acquire knowledge and innovation commensurate with the up-to-date changes in sport. This paper proposes a new probabilistic method using the tangent function, namely, a new tangent- F family of distributions. It improves the data-fitting ability of its special members by adding a parameter. Some properties of the new tangent- F approach are derived. Based on the new tangent- F method, we study a new interesting probability model called a new tangent flexible-Weibull distribution. We implement the maximum likelihood method to derive the new tangent flexible-Weibull distribution estimators. A simulation study is performed for evaluating the new tangent flexible-Weibull distribution estimators. These estimators are evaluated using two statistical criteria. Finally, we illustrate the new tangent flexible-Weibull distribution by considering two applications (i.e., two data examples). The first data example is considered from sports science. It represents the waiting time until the first goal is scored in different 78 football matches. Another data example is considered from medical science. This represents the survival times of 32 patients affected by acute myelogenous leukemia. Using seven decision criteria, it is shown that the new tangent flexible-Weibull distribution outperforms rival distributions. In this study, we sought to determine the prevalence of musculoskeletal injuries, perceived pain, and physical activity level among Brazilian practitioners of strength training (ST) and functional fitness (FF). Participants were 311 men and women who trained in 10 FF training centers and seven ST gyms. Each participant completed surveys of the prevalence of musculoskeletal injuries, their pain perception, and their physical activity level. A chi square test was used to analyze associations between groups and distributions of injuries. When any significant difference was observed, the difference score was analyzed through the adjusted residual values. Fisher's exact test was used to determined the associations between musculoskeletal injury prevalence and training modality (FF and ST) and between musculoskeletal injury prevalence and practice frequency (times/wk). To measure the magnitude of association between variables, the Phi coefficient was calculated for 2x2 associations and Cramer's V was used whenever the distributions were outside this standard. When the dependent variable presented a dichotomous characteristic, an Odds Ratio (OR) was calculated with a confidence interval of 95%. We found a higher musculoskeletal injury prevalence in the axial skeleton (n = 52; 83.88%) in FF practitioners and in the lower limbs of ST practitioners (n = 9; 52.96%). When the physical activity level cutoff point was set at 300 minutes per week, there was a significant relationship between physical activity and training modality (p = 0.005). There was also a significant association between pain perception and musculoskeletal injury (p < 0.001). Clinical follow-up was a protective factor to being injured (OR = 0.18; CI = 0.06–0.49), and, even after multivariate analysis this significant association was maintained (OR = 0.03; CI = 0.01 – 0.08). Thus, FF practitioners reported more musculoskeletal injuries than STs, and follow-up medical or physical therapy was a protective factor to these injuries. FF practitioners also had a higher level of weekly physical activity weekly than ST practitioners. Introduction. Soccer as a sport has undergone thorough examination across various fields of knowledge. Notably, the exploration of small-sided games has emerged as a prominent and captivating subject of study, garnering increased attention in contemporary scientific discourse. Objective. The aim of this study was to conduct a bibliometric study on the scientific output pertaining to small-sided games in soccer from 2003 to 2023. This examination was carried out by evaluating the comprehensive dataset available in the Scopus database. Methodology. The descriptive bibliometric analysis of scientific production considered various key indicators for each document, encompassing: 1) database source; 2) document type; 3) publication year; 4) author names; 5) knowledge domain; 6) journal names; 7) journal country; 8) publication count; 9) quartile ranking; 10) Index; 11) SCI index; 12) citations; 13) average citations per article; 14) documents per institutional affiliation; 15) documents per country/territory; and 16) document count per language. To perform this comprehensive analysis, MeSH terms such as "Soccer" and "Small sided games" were employed in the search utilizing the query ("Small AND Sided AND Games AND Soccer"). The search yielded a total of 714 documents. Employing the VOSviewer program, co-occurrence maps were generated to visualize keyword relationship and co-authorship-patterns within the dataset. Results. The findings indicate that the predominant form of output is research articles (91.0%), followed by review articles (5.7%). Examining the publication timeline revealed a consistent upward trend in scientific output since 2011 peaking in 2022 with 196 documents. Leading contributors to this body of work include Clemente, F.M. (10.084%), Praça, G.M. (5.462%) and Gonçalves, B. (4.902%). In terms of subject areas, the majority of production is concentrated in Medicine (73.94%) and Health Professions (69.88%). Key journals driving publication and impact include the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research (64 papers, 3374 citations), Journal of Human Kinetics (37 papers, 1066 citations), and the Journal of Sports Sciences (34 papers, 2795 citations). These journals fall within the Q1 quartile in terms of citations. The Centro de Investigação em Desporto, Saúde e Desenvolvimento Humano emerged as the leading institution contributing 10.92% of the research with an impressive 78 papers. Notably, English overwhelmingly dominates the language landscape, encompassing 95.09% of the scientific production. Conclusions. Small-Sided Games have become instrumental in exploring diverse adaptations related to the technical--tactical, physical, and physiological demands of soccer, highlighting that the number of studies has been increasing over the years, sports science stands out as a pivotal driver, playing a crucial role in shaping the design and planning processes for sports preparation across various levels and categories in soccer. Fluency is a movement parameter combining smoothness and hesitation, and its objective measurement may be used to determine the effects of practice on sports performance. This study aimed to measure fluency in parkour, an acrobatic discipline comprising complex non-cyclical movements, which involves fluency as a critical aspect of performance. Inter-individual fluidity differences between advanced and novice athletes as well as intra-individual variations of fluency between different parts and subsequent repetitions of a path were addressed. Seventeen parkour participants were enrolled and divided into two groups based on their experience. We analysed signals captured from an inertial measurement unit fixed on the back of the pelvis of each participant during three consecutive repetitions of a specifically designed parkour routine under the guidance of video analysis. Two fluency parameters, namely smoothness and hesitation, were measured. Smoothness was calculated as the number of inflexions on the so-called jerk graph; hesitation was the percentage of the drop in the centre of mass velocity. Smoothness resulted in significantly lower values in advanced athletes (mean: 126.4; range: 36-192) than in beginners (mean: 179.37; range: 98-272) during one of the three motor activities (p = 0.02). A qualitative analysis of hesitation showed that beginner athletes tended to experience more prominent velocity drops and negative deflection than more advanced athletes. In conclusion, a system based on a video and an inertial measurement unit is a promising approach for quantification and the assessment of variability of fluency, and it is potentially beneficial to guide and evaluate the training process. This study was conducted to investigate the diverse perspectives of English for Specific Purposes Needs of M.A students of Sports Science in Iran based on their language learning needs. A total of 40 male and female students majoring in Sports Science as well as 4 subject instructors who taught ESP at the Sports Science Departments of the universities, took part in the study. The researchers employed a qualitative-quantitative research method encompassing two data-gathering tools: a questionnaire and an interview. Two sets of needs analysis questionnaires were used in this study: the students' questionnaire and ESP instructors' questionnaire. Prior to using students' questionnaire and ESP instructors' questionnaire for data collection, the questionnaires were piloted and validated. The verbal (tape-recorded) data of the semi-structured interviews were analyzed using descriptive statistics. They were thematically categorized to approve the participants' reactions to the related items in the questionnaires. Based on what was revealed by the results, the M.A students of Sports Science often lacked the knowledge and key skills needed in their target language knowledge after graduation. They frequently discover themselves incapable of utilizing what they have learned practically. Additionally, ESP instructors expressed that they were also disappointed with the students' poor writing ability at M.A level. The findings also demonstrated that reading and writing, followed by speaking and listening, were individually recognized as the most vital skills by the participants. Furthermore, the participants expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of translation, writing, and grammar exercises, interesting topics, and pictures in ESP materials. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In recent decades, the field of sports science has emerged as a discipline characterised by a substantial accumulation of data at the intersection of social and natural sciences. This wealth of data has contributed significantly to our understanding of human performance, training methods, health and well-being and other sport-related phenomena. Data on motor performance have been collected in numerous national and international projects over several decades. The Institute of Sports and Sports Science (IfSS) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is one of the largest research centres for human motor performance testing and has funded the Competence Centre for Motor Performance and Motor Testing (KOMET). In 2013, the project group of Klaus Bös and Claudia Niessner registered the need of data management for motor test data in sports science. They started the project “eResearch infrastructure for motor research data”, which was funded by the German Research Foundation in two funding periods from 2014 to 2023. The MO|RE data1 repository emerged from this project. MO|RE data is the first disciplinary repository in sports science and offers these features: publication, search, citation, storage, mapping and harmonisation. During its development and subsequent implementation, it has raised many questions. In general, the basic functions of a repository are well understood, as its overall purpose is clear. However, it is crucial to address the specific needs of the sports science community and different target groups to ensure the repository’s practical utility post-publication. This includes considerations such as data harmonisation through standardisation to a common unit, linking datasets from different surveys, and other measures to enhance usability. With the development of MO|RE data, the project group started an experiment on how specific a repository can be in order to have a defined target group and to address a specific need, and at the same time to be used by enough users to still be relevant and used in the future. Now, MO|RE data has to make the step from project object to routine operation.

Purpose: To assess heart rate (HR) variability responses to various markers of training load, quantify associations between HR variability and fitness, and compare responses and associations between 1-minute ultrashort and 5-minute criterion measures among a girls' field hockey team. Methods: A total of 11 players (16.8 [1.1] y) recorded the logarithm of the root mean square of successive differences (LnRMSSD) daily throughout a 4-week training camp. The weekly mean (LnRMSSDM) and coefficient of variation (LnRMSSDCV) were analyzed. The internal training load (ITL) and external training load (ETL) were acquired with session HR and accelerometry, respectively. Speed, agility, repeated sprint ability, and intermittent fitness were assessed precamp and postcamp. Results: Similar increases in the ultrashort and criterion LnRMSSDM were observed in week 3 versus week 1 (P <.05–.06, effect size [ES] = 0.28 to 0.36). The ultrashort and criterion LnRMSSDCV showed small ES reductions in week 2 (ES = −0.40 to −0.50), moderate reductions in week 3 (ES = −0.61 to −0.72), and small reductions in week 4 (ES = −0.42 to −0.51) versus week 1 (P >.05). Strong agreement was observed between the ultrashort and criterion values (intraclass correlation coefficient =.979). The ITL:ETL ratio peaked in week 1 (P <.05 vs weeks 2–4), displaying a weekly pattern similar to LnRMSSDCV, and inversely similar to LnRMSSDM. Changes in the ultrashort and criterion LnRMSSDCV from week 1 to 4 were associated with ITL (P <.01). The ultrashort and criterion LnRMSSDCV in week 4 were associated (P <.05) with postcamp fitness. Conclusions: The ultrashort HR variability parameters paralleled the criterion responses, and the associations with ITL and fitness were similar in magnitude. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to conduct a kinetic analysis of the lateral and vertical jumps of elite male basketball players through a 12-week axial stability training program to improve sports performance. Thirty elite Taiwanese male basketball players were openly recruited and divided into experimental groups and control groups. The experimental group conducted the test twice a week, a 12-week (24-session) axial stability training program intervention in total, and the control group only received general basketball training. A double-track force plate was used to measure lateral and vertical jumps in order to understand their dynamic parameters. Finally, a difference analysis between the post-test of lateral and vertical jumps was conducted. The results show that the axial stability training program affected the activation of the abdominal and lower limb extensor muscles and had a stabilizing effect on the muscles of the experimental group. When the participants conducted a lateral jump, they were able to stand firm within 1 s and take off instantly. The θ value of the T-PRF ranged from 60.7° to 68.6°. The post-test of the participants’ vertical jump showed that the kurtosis of the RFD was steeper, the time required for the RFD was shorter, the GRF and the duration of passage increased, and the experimental group was better than the control group in all post-tests. By comparing the two types of jumps, it was found that they had the vertical force in common. The main differences were in the reaction force of the leg strength, the jump distance and height, and the take-off angle.

Background Methods Results Conclusion With increasing sports medicine content on social media, we sought to identify the top sports medicine influencers on X (formerly Twitter) and analyse their common characteristics.X influence scores for “Sports Medicine” were collected in November 2021 from Right Relevance. Accounts were then screened in a blind, duplicate manner for personal and X profile characteristics.Physical therapists/physiotherapists made up 48% of the top sports science and medicine influencers. Locations in the U.S. and U.K. were listed for half of the influencers. The mean h-index was 30.2 (95% CI = [24.8–35.6]) with a median of 22.0 (range = 1–101). Most individuals reported multiple practice settings (63%), with 60% associated with an academic setting. Professional (62%) and Olympic (49%) level athletics were most frequently mentioned, with soccer (48%) and rugby (30%) as the most common sports. Among 76 profiles with URLs, most were linked to personal websites (57.9%).The top influencers on X consisted of accredited sports science and medicine professionals across various locations and occupations, providing ample networking and collaboration opportunities. Creatine (CRE) and caffeine (CAF) have been used as ergogenic aids to improve exercise performance. The present study reviewed the current evidence supporting the additional use of CAF intake during or after the CRE loading on exercise performance. The search was carried out in eight databases, with the methodological quality of the studies assessed via the QualSyst tool. From ten studies that met the criteria for inclusion, six had strong, three moderate, and one weak methodological quality. CAF was ingested ∼1 h before the performance trial (5–7 mg.kg−1) after a CRE loading period (5–6 days with 0.3 g.kg−1.d−1) in five studies, with the combination CAF + CRE providing additional ergogenic effect compared to CRE alone in three of these studies. Furthermore, CAF was ingested daily during the CRE loading protocol in five studies, with CAF showing additive benefits compared to CRE alone only in one study (3 g.d−1 of CRE during 3 days + 6 mg.kg−1 of CAF for 3 days). The combination CAF + CRE seems to provide additional benefits to exercise performance when CAF is acutely ingested after a CRE loading. There is, however, no apparent benefit in ingesting CAF during a CRE loading period.
