- Abstract
Die motivationalen Aspekte von Hochrisikosport bzw. Extremsport gelten bislang unzureichend verstanden. The motivational aspects of high-risk sports or extreme sports have so far been insufficiently under-stood. To identify significant factors, this study investigated the relationships between attachment rep-resentations, attachment styles, psychological stress, and the practice of extreme sports. In total, N = 186 participants were assigned to one of three study groups with different sports activity profiles, in-cluding extreme sports activity, regular sports- as well as low sports profiles. The Relationship Scales Questionnaire (RSQ) was used to measure attachment-related factors. The Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI) was used to assess symptoms burden due to psychological and somatic stress burden. Significant correlations were found between attachment security and the practice of extreme sports, but also sex differences, which showed an impact on some of the results. With regard to the dimensional RSQ scales, the fear of closeness scale was found to be lower in extreme athletes compared to the two control groups. The values of the scales of fear of separation and lack of trust were lower among extreme athletes than among low-level athletes. Regarding the categorical attachment style, the secure attachment style was more represented among extreme athletes and the anxious-avoidant style was less common than in the two control groups. Looking at the symptom severity of current psy-chological and somatic stress, measured using the BSI, the extreme athletes showed a lower level of stress than the low-level athletes. It was also shown that the group differences in terms of psychological and physical stress were mediated by the severity of the fear of closeness and fear of separation scales. An additional explorative subgroup analysis considering the sex of the participants revealed the following differences: In women, there was a significant group difference in the distribution of the categorical attachment styles. Here, the secure attachment style occurred more frequently, Johanna Danz, in englischer Sprache, Masterarbeit Universität Innsbruck 2024

Sports injuries may have severe implications for an athlete's career. Psychological factors play an important role on an athlete's journey from the injury to the return to competitive sports. These factors are often insufficiently evaluated, which may lead to prolonged downtime. The Athlete Fear Avoidance Questionnaire (AFAQ) may be used to measure fear avoidance patterns in injured athletes. There is no validated German version of the questionnaire at this time.

- Abstract
Femoroacetabular impingement is the most common pathology leading to hip pain in athletes. Depending on the duration of the symptoms, corresponding damage to the labrum and the articular cartilage becomes increasingly apparent. In non-dysplastic hips, impingement is the most common cause for osteoarthritis of the hip. If an athlete presents sustained complaints and a hip impingement has been proven, early treatment is advantageous in regard to the progression of the corresponding damage. In addition to optimized techniques for the correction of the deformities, options for preserving the labrum and various methods of treating cartilage damage are described. When there are persistent complaints, especially after a short conservative therapeutic attempt, there is an indication for a promt operative treatment. If arthroscopic surgery is performed early enough, these procedures show high return-to-sports rates, an excellent clinical outcome and low complication rates. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

20. “Always do your best!”—The relationship between food addiction, exercise dependence, and perfectionism in amateur athletes.

- Abstract
Objective: Food addiction is discussed as a substance-related addictive disorder, which is prevalent in normal and underweight subjects. Addictions often co-occur. It was suggested that food addiction and exercise dependence (behavioral addiction), may co-occur in vulnerable athletes. This assumption was made since the eating behavior of athletes in certain situations is similar to the eating behavior seen in food addiction. In addition, exercise dependence may play a significant role in individuals’ eating related pathologies, and thus possibly also in food addiction. Athletes may be an interesting population to examine the co-occurrence of food and exercise addictions, as athletes represent a group that is potentially at-risk for both, eating problems and exercise dependence. Perfectionism is a construct that has been implicated in both, exercise dependence and eating disorders. Current study explores potential relationships among the two addictive disorders food addiction and exercise dependence—with perfectionism being the common thread between the two. Method: A total of 1022 German speaking amateur athletes completed an online questionnaire consisting of the questionnaires Yale Food Addiction Scale 2.0, Questionnaire to diagnose exercise-dependence in endurance sports and Multidimensional inventory of perfectionism in sport. Result: A mediator effect of exercise dependence on the relationship between perfectionism and food addiction was found. Approximately 4 % (positive)/6 % (negative) of the variance in food addiction were accounted for by the mediator. Conclusion: The appearance of food addiction in normal/underweight individuals may partially be explained by sports-related reasons, e.g. exercise dependence and perfectionism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

22. Influence of coach behaviour on athlete's satisfaction and sport commitment

- Abstract
The psychological state of an athlete is influenced by the behaviour of his or her coach, but little research has examined the interaction between different coach behaviours and sport commitment. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to examine the relationship between perceived coach behaviours, athlete satisfaction and sport commitment. More specifically, the influence of different perceived leadership styles on athlete satisfaction and on sport commitment, as well as the potential mediating role of athlete satisfaction on the relationship between perceived coach behaviours and athlete sport commitment was investigated. Furthermore, the sport commitment of team sport athletes was compared with that of individual sport athletes. One hundred and seventy-nine male and female athletes (M = 23.5 years, SD = 5.6), licenced to fifteen different sports federations in Luxembourg, participated in the study. The results of the study confirmed the influence of different leadership styles on athlete satisfaction, as previously found by some researchers. Structural equation modeling revealed a direct positive effect of social support behaviour on enthusiastic commitment and indirect mediation effects through athlete satisfaction between democratic, autocratic, and positive feedback coach behaviours and enthusiastic commitment. The indirect effect was most pronounced for positive feedback coach behaviour. The findings highlight the importance of social support and positive feedback leadership styles on athletes’ motivation to pursue their sport. No significant difference in sport commitment was found between athletes practising team sports and those engaged in individual sports., submitted by Pol Schwartz, B.A., Masterarbeit University Innsbruck 2023

Based on a decrease in the average age of football players that has been observed for about two decades as well as an accumulation of underage debutants in the Bundesliga, the article asks how the sport of soccer succeeds in normalizing this development discursively. Referring to the sensitizing concepts of normalization via conventions and singularization, two discourse fragments from a situation-analytical research project are singled out and used as examples to show that there are three orders of justification that enable the normalisation of underage professional soccer players. First, in the social investment state, children are to be promoted as early as possible, whereby sport is ascribed a special pedagogical value; second, the nationwide expansion of talent promotion, which is justified by shocking experiences in connection with the European Championship 2000, is based on this foundation. The convention of the 'veteran' player was replaced by that of the young talent. And thirdly, the use of underage players is legitimized by their singular talent. This leads to the apparent paradox of the normalization of minors in professional soccer through their singularization.

This thesis deals with the taxation of associations and athletes in terms of income taxes and value added taxes. I want to take a look at the tax liability for associations in general and their tax exemptions if they have one. Further I want to give an overview how to deal with individual athletes in income taxes and VAT. The main topic regarding to associations will be sports clubs because of the topic athletes. There are many different types of associations or clubs all over the world. Also here in Austria there is a huge tradition. It doesn’t matter if it’s about music, traditional costumes, skiing, tennis or football. And that’s only a few. Every club has his own tradition and relevance. But which clubs are the most important? It’s sports clubs. Nearly every Austrian citizen has been member of a sports club – if it’s in an active way or in the background. Thus the membership only is not enough for an association. There are so many tasks to do make demands on someones time. To keep a club working it needs earnings and there are different possibilities to do that. In the most cases you have to pay a membership fee first of all. But as already said that’s not enough because of current costs. So you can gain earnings by sponsorships. But how does an association have to deal with such benefits in case of taxes? Another possibility would be events in various forms. They can take just one day or more days. They can be visited for free or with an entrance fee. They can go as a charity event and the earnings would be given away as donation or the earnings remain in the association for incoming costs. This events can also include third parties. That means you would invite bands, famous people, personalities and so on and pay them an amount for their appearance. On the other hand associations for themselves can also be invited by others and gain earnings for that. Thus there are many questions for the clubs when it comes to earnings and costs. What’s about accounting records or tax liability? Then you have some club members who have the privilege to get payments from their clubs. If those people aren’t professionals they will have full-time or part-time jobs. The tax law describes that workers have to pay income tax for their additional business if it runs at the same time. But are there any exemptions for amateur athletes? Further I want to show where’s the difference to professional athletes. As a professional the payment can be received in various ways. Football players as an example are employed by their clubs. Individual athletes such as tennis players earn their money in form of prize money, sponsorships, etc. Further the tournaments are not only in Austria but all over the world. So it’s about how to deal with tax liability in Austria. As already mentioned there any many questionings which are not easy to answer at first sight. The main topic of this thesis is for which earnings of associations you have to pay taxes – income taxes as well as value-added taxes – and which earnings are exempted from tax liability. Further it should be given an overview where the differences are between professional sports clubs and amateur sports clubs. At the end we want to look at the sports athletes and explain the main differences between amateurs and professionals. Especially professionals have to deal with certain specifics when it comes to taxes.

This thesis deals with the taxation of individuals with limited tax liability with selected types of income under Section 98 of the Income Tax Act and the resulting tax consequences. The main part of the thesis is devoted to income taxation both within the framework of domestic tax law and on an international level. On the one hand, the legal prerequisites for the right of taxation are presented, and on the other hand, various forms of levying income tax on limited taxpayers are examined in more detail and differences are elaborated. In the sub-theme, the thesis deals with the procedural aspects of the taxation of persons with limited tax liability. As an introduction, the concepts of domicile and habitual place of residence are examined for the negative delimitation of unlimited tax liability. At the end of the paper, the possibility of tax relief in the context of repayment of withheld taxes is examined. On the one hand, the paper explains theoretical principles, on the other hand, it uses several examples from case law and literature to establish a practical reference.

32. Valgus instability of the elbow: acute and chronic form.

- Abstract
There has been an increase in thrower-specific elbow injuries in recent years. High valgus stresses during the late cocking and acceleration phases of throwing need to be compensated by the flexor pronator muscles as these can exceed the tensile strength of the medial collateral ligament complex. Prevention of injuries is the priority, with a focus on strengthening, reducing throwing frequency, decreasing force, and promoting a technique. The spectrum of thrower injuries ranges from a simple sprain to complete failure of the valgus stabilizing factors. The medial collateral ligament can stretch, leading to posteromedial impingement and radiocapitellar compression forces. This in turn can result in arthrosis and the formation of osteophytes. Ligament failure may eventually occur, making it impossible for the athlete to continue their throwing activities. The outcome of conservative treatment with strengthening, improvement of technique, and relative rest is often disappointing. Direct repair may no longer be possible in these acute-on-chronic injuries and a reconstruction with a tendon graft may be necessary. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Summary Non-traumatic meniscus lesions occur mainly in middle- and higher-aged patients. Nevertheless, they can also occur in young sportsmen. In general, it can be clearly diagnosed using patients’ history, clinical examination and MRI. Regarding treatment, randomized clinical trials showed a partial superiority of arthroscopic partial meniscectomy compared to conservative treatment in general population. Additionally, failure rate was up to 35 % of conservative treatment. Thus far for athletes, high-quality clinical trials comparing surgical with conservative treatment are missing; therefore, treatment recommendations based on level I studies are not possible for athletes. However, based on the high success rate, very low complication rate and very short postoperative break arthroscopic partial meniscectomy in case of a non-traumatic meniscus lesion is justifiable. - Abstract
Methodik. We report the case of a 52-year Ironman triathlete who complained of prolonged pain in the left buttock.Therapeutic efforts in the suspected blocked sacroiliac joint were unsuccessful. An MRI of the pelvis then showed a fracture of the left iliac wing. We assume that manipulation of the sacroiliac joint led to the fracture of the iliac wing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Schlusselworter: Theatralik, Fairplay, Spielbereitschaft, Regelwerk, Schiedsrichter ----- Abstract In football, theatricality is a way of convincing the referee of an opponent's foul. How should fair behaviour actually be defined, if the border between fair and unfair can be shifted by the player´s theatricality? The transaction of rules against theatricality is difficult, because the emotional expression is possibly justified, consequently judgement is speculative. This problem is analysed from interaction theoretic and moral philosophic point of view. Furthermore, existing data and possible solutions are discussed. It is concluded that willingness to play is important for the game. It encourages intensive tackling and supports game flow. Furthermore, it promotes the development of social effects, which are ascribed to the game. - Abstract
Injuries to the upper extremities can be caused by acute trauma or can be a chronic recurrence. When practicing their form of sport athletes are often affected by fractures and dislocations as well as also suffering from palsy. Orthotic devices are regularly used for temporary immobilization of fractures in active athletes. The dislocation of a joint mostly occurs as a result of a fall or trauma. Approximately 50 % of dislocations affect the shoulder joint followed by the elbow joint. In these cases the technical treatment is demanding due to the great range of movement. Because of the good results patients with brachial plexus palsy are coming increasingly more with the wish for restoration of function using an arm orthosis. A hydraulic elbow support has been developed for this purpose. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Background: In recent years the compensation payments by the Administrative Employers Liability Insurance (VBG, Verwaltungs-Berufsgenossenschaft) for professional athletes with statutory accident insurance have continuously increased. The VBG has developed a prevention concept for professional athletes with the aim of reducing the premium rates. Objective: What form of medical attendance in team sports can help reduce the quantity as well as the severity of sporting accidents? Method: A pilot project has been initiated starting from 1 January 2016. Results: Measures that can help to diminish the risk of sporting injuries are sports medical examinations, performance diagnostics, documentation of injuries, implementation of treatment chains, information about remedies and doping, regeneration measures and prevention-oriented rehabilitation. Conclusion: By involving a procedure focusing on team sports physicians, the so-called team doctor procedure ( Mannschaftsarztverfahren), sports-specific standards in medical attendance can be implemented. For the first time, medical attendance in team sports is institutionalized, which will strengthen the role of team physicians. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
