Provenance plays an important role for the documentation of research data. Born-digital documentation simplifies the acquisition of provenance information. In contrast to computational workflows, wet-lab experiments rely on manually created documentation based on prior established research protocols. While deviation from such protocols can easily be described using standard provenance models, the evolution of such protocols is often not included. Consequently, this prevents the effective use of provenance models derived from experiments, following revised protocols. In this article, we introduce the three dimensions of provenance for wet-lab in-vitro experiment and discuss how ontologies can be utilized for the unambiguous representation. Based on a use case from a cell-biological electrical stimulation experiment, we describe the three dimensions and provide a model that closes the described gap between research documentation's provenance models resulting from different protocol versions.

Filters with constant phase shift in conjunction with 3/6 dB amplitude decay per octave frequently occur in sound field synthesis and sound reinforcement applications. These ideal filters, known as (half) differentiators, exhibit zero group delay and 45/90 degree phase shift. It is well known that certain group delay distortions in electro-acoustic systems are audible for trained listeners and critical audio stimuli, such as transient, impulse-like and square wave signals. It is of interest if linear distortion by a constant phase shift is audible as well. For that, we conducted a series of ABX listening tests, diotically presenting non-phase shifted references against their treatments with different phase shifts. The experiments revealed that for the critical square waves, this can be clearly detected, which generally depends on the amount of constant phase. Here, -90 degree (Hilbert transform) is comparably easier to detect than other phase shifts. For castanets, lowpass filtered pink-noise and percussion the detection rate tends to guessing for most listeners, although trained listeners were able to discriminate treatments in the first two cases based on changed pitch, attack and roughness cues. Our results motivate to apply constant phase shift filters to ensure that also the most critical signals are technically reproduced as best as possible. In the paper, we furthermore give analytical expressions for discrete-time infinite impulse response of an arbitrary constant phase shifter and for practical filter design.

This data set contains the poster for the contribution "Software Tools and Workflows for Open Science" presented at the 45th German Annual Conference on Acoustics (DAGA), 2019, Rostock, Germany. Abstract: Science relies on the traceability and replicability of studies. Aiming for sustainability, this is important for the authors itself as well as for the research community once results become published. Ideally the entire research process, from initial concepts till publication, shall be performed under the open science paradigm. Recent efforts in the open source software community led to convenient tools for research data management. Nowadays, it is almost self-evident that researchers are engaged in the professional typesetting process using the mature LaTeX front-end with graphical packages like TikZ. Furthermore, version-control systems such as Git are probably used by a large part of the community for open and closed source projects. Besides that, the open source programming language Python and its various open tools for code development gradually become predominant, supporting the open science paradigm. Jupyter notebooks together rapidly gain importance in the workflow for prototyping, documentation and education. Documentation tools like ”Sphinx” and free hosting platforms like ”Read the Docs” are emerging front-ends that allow versioned technical documentation with hyperlinks. In this contribution we discuss and demonstrate a current reliable workflow for open science/research starting from puzzling ideas to publishing results.

With the advent of Open Science, researchers have started to publish their research artefacts (i. e., data, software, and other products of the investigations) in order to allow others to reproduce their investigations. While this publication is beneficial for science in general, it often lacks a comprehensive documentation and completeness with respect to the artefacts. This, in turn, prevents the successful reproduction of the analyses. Typical examples are missing scripts, incomplete datasets or specification of used software. Moreover, issues about licences often create legal concerns. This is true for the use of commercial software but also for the publication of research artefacts without proper sharing licence. As a result, the sole publication of research artefacts does not automatically result in reproducible research. To empirically confirm this, we have been systematically analysing research publications that also published their investigations as Jupyter notebooks. In this paper, we present preliminary results of this analysis for five publications. Virtual research environments play a central role in today’s interdisciplinary research. They provide a secure and convenient way for collaboration and traceable research. While all-in-one solutions exist that enable researchers to collaborate during the entireresearch data lifecycle, we argue that a flexible virtual research environment can also be composed of off-the-shelf services. In that vein, we introduce the virtual research environment of the CRC 1270 ELAINE and discuss different implementation aspects

The development of a data management plan requires detailed knowledge about the research data and the corresponding processes. Moreover, detailed knowledge about the entire data life-cycle in the respective research group is necessary when providing support with respect to reproducibility and data management. In order to allow curators to gain this knowledge, we developed a questionnaire, which provides a set of topics including questions to inspire discussions on data management and the data life-cycle. This questionnaire consists of a collection of questions targeting different phases of the data life-cycle. It was developed in order to gain insight about the data management practices in the subproject of the collaborative research centre 1270 ELAINE, but can also be used as guideline for so interviews with individual research groups.

International audience; We present a database of binaural room impulse responses (BRIRs) measured in an apartment-like environment. The BRIRs were captured at four different sound source positions, each combined with four listener positions. A head and torso simulator (HATS) with varying head-orientation in the range of ±78 • with 2 • resolution was used. Additionally, BRIRs of 20 listener positions along a trajectory connecting two of the four positions were measured, each with a fixed head-orientation. The data is provided in the Spatially Oriented Format for Acoustics (SOFA) and it is freely available under the Creative Commons (CC-BY-4.0) license. It can be used to simulate complex acoustic scenes in order to study the process of auditory scene analysis for humans and machines.
