Collision metastasis is a rare phenomenon in which metastases of carcinoma from 2 separate primary tumors occur in the same lymph node. We summarize here the clinical course and highlight the histological challenges in the diagnosis of this rare phenomenon.A biopsy performed due to gross hematuria by endoscopic resection revealed an infiltrative high-grade urothelial carcinoma in a 75-year-old man receiving androgen deprivation therapy due to biopsy-proven high-grade prostate cancer. A radical cystectomy, with regional lymphadenectomy and prostatectomy, was performed. Three nodes appeared to have metastatic foci from both primary tumors: prostatic and urothelial cancer. The presence of the 2 tumor types colliding in the same lymph nodes was confirmed by immunohistochemical stains.In a patient with simultaneous tumors it is important to remember that a part of lymph node metastases with histological polymorphic appearance may result from a collision metastasis. In light of the important therapeutic consequences, a differential diagnosis is needed, suggesting appropriate immunohistochemical investigations.

The synthesis of oligomeric acid azo dyes A-1 to A-11 was carried out by coupling reaction of trimethylolmelamine-1-naphthol oligomer A, respectively, with diazonium salts of p-aminobenzoic acid, sulphanilic acid and nine different amino naphthalene sulphonic acid derivatives. The chemical structures of the novel coupling oligomer A and all the oligomeric acid azo dyes A-1 to A-11 were established by elemental analysis and spectral studies (IR, UV-visible). The number average molecular weight of oligomer A was estimated by nonaqueous conductometric titration. The dyeability of all of the dyes on wool, silk and nylon fabrics was assessed by exhaustive dyeing, producing attractive shades varying from purple to off-white brown fabrics. The dyeing behavior was evaluated in terms of washing fastness and light fastness properties. It was observed that these novel oligomeric acid azo dyes exhibited attractive brilliant shades with excellent washing fastness and moderate light fastness properties.

Angiosarcomas are rare vascular neoplasms, and visceral involvement is quite uncommon. Predisposing factors that are thought to contribute to the development of angiosarcomas include ionizing radiation and chemical agents. Particularly, the association of angiosarcomas with therapeutic radiation has been previously emphasized. Nonurothelial bladder tumors are quite rare, too. Sarcomas represent the most common mesenchymal tumors of the bladder and generally share an extremely aggressive biologic behavior.A 67-year-old, white woman presented with primary angiosarcoma of the bladder and with no apparent risk factors or previous exposure to the carcinogens typically related to such neoplasms. A biopsy performed due to gross hematuria by endoscopic resection revealed an infiltrative, poorly differentiated neoplasm that was interpreted as high grade papillary urothelial carcinoma. A radical cystectomy, with regional lymphadenectomy and bilateral hysterosalpingo-oophorectomy, was performed. The pathological examination revealed a voluminous and extensively necrotic mass, histologically compatible with an angiosarcoma of the bladder. Despite a multimodal therapeutic approach, the patient died within a short time. This report summarizes the clinical course and highlights the histological features of this tumor.This case falls within the limited group of primary angiosarcoma of the bladder with very aggressive clinical features in a patient without recognized risk factors.

In recent years the synthesis of antiferromagnetic rings traced a path to the observation of interesting quantum coherence phenomena in heterometallic Single Molecule Magnets. Because of the presence of different magnetic centers, it is crucial to understand the distribution of the molecular spin on all the sites. 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy is an efficient and powerful technique to contribute to this knowledge in antiferromagnetic wheels containing iron ions. We analyze the Cr7FeII wheel: the Mössbauer line shape evolution of low temperature spectra (2.1 K) at different external fields is illustrated and the mean spin value of the iron ion is evaluated.

Chemo-radiation represents an effective therapy for carcinoma of the uterine cervix. The endometrium may however receive a consistent dose of mutagenic radiations and patients may have an increased risk of secondary malignancies. Endometrial mixed malignant mullerian tumor (MMMT) is a rare, highly aggressive disease, and neuroendocrine features are even rarer. A 68 years old woman underwent radio-chemotherapy for a squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix. Follow up was uneventful until, eight years after radio-chemotherapy, imaging exams detected a diffuse enlargement of the uterine body. Radical hysterectomy revealed a multiphasic lesion with both sarcomatous and mixed carcinomatous components. The carcinomatous, component presented neuroendocrine histologic and ultrastuctural features and an intense expression of neuroendocrine immunohistochemistry markers. No residual cervical carcinoma was documented (pR0). The patient died of disease after 9 months. Reported cases further demonstrate how the irradiation of the uterus for cervical cancer carries a not negligible risk of developing a second endometrial cancer. The second cancer may develop years after initial therapy and may have aggressive histologic and clinical features. This case underlines the importance for a long follow-up in women having received radio-chemotherapy alone.
