Urinary bladder diverticula are formed by the herniation of the mucosa into the muscle layer of the bladder wall, often ending with a narrow neck that communicates with the bladder lumen. They may be congenital or acquired, and they most often affect males. Urinary bladder diverticula discovery during autopsy incidence described in the literature is approximately 5–10%. Various causative factors have been described, including urinary tract obstruction (e.g., benign prostate hyperplasia) and neurogenic and iatrogenic causes. The most described site of occurrence is adjacent to the ureteral orifice. Their clinical presentation does not often facilitate diagnosis, as most are small and asymptomatic. Complications of urinary bladder diverticulosis include infections, lithiasis, neoplasia, pressure on adjacent tissues, obstruction, and rupture. Indeed, urinary bladder diverticula may lead to spontaneous bladder rupture in extremely rare cases. This paper presents the case of an 87-year-old female suffering from atrial fibrillation and under anticoagulant therapy who was pronounced dead in a hospital and was subsequently referred to our department for medico-legal examination. Upon macroscopic examination of the body, intra-abdominal hemorrhage was observed in the vicinity of the urinary bladder, extraperitoneally. A meticulous examination excluded the possibility of injury as the cause of this finding, and tissue samples were collected for histopathological examination. A ruptured urinary diverticulum was discovered and confirmed histopathologically. Death was attributed to intra-abdominal hemorrhage after rupture of urinary bladder diverticulum. A forensic pathologist should be aware of this diagnosis, as although extremely rare, such pathology may lead to death, especially when the patient is under anticoagulant therapy. Purpose: Cannabidiol (CBD) products are widely used for pain relief, sleep improvement, management of seizures etc. Although the concentrations of Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC) in these products are low (≤0.3% w/w), it is important to investigate if its presence and/or that of its metabolite 11-nor-carboxy-Δ9-THC, is traceable in plasma and urine samples of individuals who take CBD oil products. Methods: A sensitive GC/MS method for the determination of Δ9-THC, 11-nor-carboxy-Δ9-THC and CBD in plasma and urine samples was developed and validated. The sample preparation procedure included protein precipitation for plasma samples and hydrolysis for urine samples, solid-phase extraction and finally derivatization with N,O-bis(trimethylsilyl)trifluoroacetamide) with 1% trimethylchlorosilane. Results: For all analytes, the LOD and LOQ were 0.06 and 0.20 ng/mL, respectively. The calibration curves were linear (R2 ≥ 0.992), and absolute recoveries were ≥91.7%. Accuracy and precision were within the accepted range. From the analysis of biologic samples of 10 human participants who were taking CBD oil, it was realized that Δ9-THC was not detected in urine, while 11-nor-carboxy-Δ9-THC (0.69–23.06 ng/mL) and CBD (0.29–96.78 ng/mL) were found in all urine samples. Regarding plasma samples, Δ9-THC (0.21–0.62 ng/mL) was detected in 10, 11-nor-carboxy-Δ9-THC (0.20–2.44 ng/mL) in 35, while CBD (0.20–1.58 ng/mL) in 25 out of 38 samples, respectively. Conclusion: The results showed that Δ9-THC is likely to be found in plasma although at low concentrations. In addition, the detection of 11-nor-carboxy-Δ9-THC in both urine and plasma samples raises questions and concerns for the proper interpretation of toxicological results, especially considering Greece's zero tolerance law applied in DUID and workplace cases. Simple Summary: Determining the time and cause of death in forensic investigations is challenging when remains are highly decomposed, making traditional toxicological samples unreliable. Entomotoxicology, a controversial and underinvestigated field in forensic science, uses insect specimens from cadavers as alternative toxicological samples. Research has shown that insects feeding on decomposing tissues can serve as substrate for toxicological analyses, which can detect drugs, toxins, and elements even at low concentrations. Nevertheless, the correlation of drug concentrations between insects and conventional matrices is controversial due to unknown factors affecting drug metabolism. This paper examines four real cases where human cadavers were in advanced decomposition, and toxicological analyses were performed on both insect samples and available matrices. The findings provide insights into the correlation between larvae and human specimen results, adding to the limited literature on entomotoxicology in real cases. Additionally, this paper offers guidelines for collecting and preserving entomological evidence at crime scenes and during autopsies for use in entomotoxicological analyses. This advancement shows promise in enhancing forensic investigations, particularly in cases where traditional methods are inapplicable or require additional validation. The reactions of students to forensic dissection encompass psychologico-emotional and physical components. This exploratory study aimed to determine risk factors for students' adverse physical and psychological reactions to forensic dissection. All sixth-year medical students (n = 304) attending the compulsory practical course in forensic medicine in the 2005-2006 academic year were asked to complete a questionnaire at the conclusion of the five-day course. The questionnaire surveyed physical and psychological reactions (outcomes) and 47 student traits, beliefs, and behaviors (risk factors) that might predispose to adverse reactions. Multivariate ordinal logistic regression yielded five independent risk factors for negative psychological reactions: female gender, stereotypic beliefs about forensic pathologists, a less cognitive and more emotional frame of mind relative to forensic dissection, more passive coping strategies, and greater fear of death. The sole independent risk factor for physical symptoms was a less cognitive/more emotional approach to dissection. Students' reactions to forensic dissection integrate a host of inherent and dissection-related risk factors, and future interventions to improve this aspect of medical education will need to take into account the complexities underlying students' experiences with dissection. Background: COVID-19 outbreak and the followed confinement measures have raised concerns to specialists worldwide regarding the imminent increase in domestic violence cases. The present systematic review aims to identify the international trends in domestic violence during the COVID-19 epidemic and to examine the possible differences among all population groups and different geographic areas worldwide. Method: The following databases were accessed: DOAJ, ERIC, Google Scholar, ProQuest, Pubmed, PsycNet, and SCOPUS, up to July 22, 2020. Results: A total of 32 studies were considered eligible. Data from North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific Area, Africa, and worldwide researches were retrieved. COVID-19 has caused an increase in domestic violence cases, especially during the first week of the COVID-19 lockdown in each country. In children, however, although the specialists' estimations suggested an increase in child maltreatment and abuse cases, the rate of police and social services' reports has declined during the COVID-19 pandemic. School closures that isolated students at home seemed to have contributed to this decrease. Conclusions: Domestic violence has been a considerable issue imposed by the COVID-19 epidemic to a worldwide context. The home confinement led to constant contact between perpetrators and victims, resulting in increased violence and decreased reports. In order to minimize such issues, prevention measures and supporting programs are necessary. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
