Com o objetivo de verificar a resposta de diferentes espécies de plantas daninhas ao herbicida glyphosate, foi desenvolvido em câmara de crescimento um experimento inteiramente casualizado, com cinco repetições no Departamento de Produção Vegetal da ESALQ/USP. Para isso, foram estudadas seis espécies de plantas daninhas: Bidens pilosa L., Tridax procumbens L., Digitaria insularis (L). Fedde, Spermacoce latifolia Aubl., Ipomoea grandifolia L. e Commelina benghalensis L. Utilizou-se o herbicida glyphosate, inibidor da enzima EPSPs, com doses em escalas de 0,0; 11,3; 22,5; 45; 90; 180; 360; 720 e 1.440 g.ha-1 i.a. A elaboração das curvas dose-resposta foi feita pelo ajuste da equação dos dados coletados de biomassa verde utilizando o modelo log-logístico: Y = C+D-C / 1 + Exp{b[log(x)-log(RC50)]}, calculado por modelo estatístico não linear dos dados pelo programa estatístico SAS. Após a determinação das curvas dose-resposta nas espécies acima citadas concluiu-se que Bidens pilosa foi considerada a planta daninha mais suscetível ao herbicida glyphosate, pois apresentou menor RC50 (31,86 g.ha-1 i.a.). As espécies Tridax procumbens, Digitaria insularis, Spermacoce latifolia, Ipomoea grandifolia, Commelina benghalensis obtiveram RC50 de 58,40; 128,50; 250,44; 615,49 e >1.440 g.ha-1 i.a. respectivamente. Portanto, a quantidade necessária de herbicida para reduzir em 50% a biomassa verde foi de 1,83; 4,03; 7,86; 32 e >359,56 vezes maior em relação à Bidens pilosa respectivamente.With the objective of veryfing the response of different doses in species of weeds by herbicide glyphosate, an experiment was conducted in growth chamber in a completetly randomized design with three repetitions, in the Department of Vegetable Production at ESALQ/USP. For that, were chosen six species of weeds: Bidens pilosa L., Tridax procumbens L., Digitaria insularis (L.) Feed, Spermacoce latifolia Aubl., Ipomoea grandifolia L. and Commelina benghalensis L. The herbicide glyphosate, inhibitor of the enzyme EPSPs, was used at rate 0.0; 11.3; 22.5; 45; 90; 180; 360; 720 and 1440 g.ha-1 a.i. Curves of dose-response were made by the adjustment of the equation of the collected data of green biomass using the log-logistic model: Y = C+D-C / 1 + Exp{b[log(x)-log(RC50)]}, calculated by the no linear statistical model through the SAS statistical program. After the determination of the dose-response curves for the species mentioned above the Bidens pilosa was considered the most susceptible weed to glyphosate, showing the houvest RC50 (31.86 g.ha-1 a.i.). The species Tridax procumbens, Digitaria insularis, Spermacoce latifolia, Ipomoea grandifolia and Commelina benghalensis obtained RC50 equal to 58.40; 128.50; 250.44; 615.49 and > 1440.00 g.ha-1 a.i., respectively, what means that the necessary amount of herbicide to reduce in 50% the green biomass was 1.83; 4.03; 7.86; 19.31 and >359.56 times higher in relation the Bidens pilosa.

The objective of this study was to evaluate glyphosate translocation in glyphosate-tolerant weed species (I. nil, T. procumbens and S. latifolia) compared to glyphosate-susceptible species (B. pilosa). The evaluations of 14C-glyphosate absorption and translocation were performed at 6, 12, 36 and 72 hours after treatment (HAT) in I. nil and B. pilosa, and only at 72 HAT in the species T. procumbens and S. latifolia. The plants were collected and fractionated into application leaf, other leaves, stems, and roots. In S. latifolia, approximately 88% of the glyphosate remained in the application leaf and a small amount was translocated to roots at 72 HAT. However, 75% of the herbicide applied on T. procumbens remained in the leaf that had received the treatment, with greater glyphosate translocation to the floral bud. It was concluded that the smaller amount of glyphosate observed in S. latifolia and T. procumbens may partly account for their higher tolerance to glyphosate. However, I. nil tolerance to glyphosate may be associated with other factors such as metabolization, root exudation or compartmentalization, because a large amount of the herbicide reached the roots of this species. Conclui-se que a menor translocação do glyphosate observada em S. latifolia e T. procumbens pode ser um dos fatores responsáveis pela maior tolerância dessas espécies ao herbicida, ao passo que em I. nil a metabolização, a exsudação radicular ou a compartimentalização podem favorecer a tolerância, já que grande quantidade do produto atingiu as raízes da espécie.

Se cita por primera vez la presencia de Spermacoce latifolia Aubl. (Rubiaceae) como elemento alóctono y subespontáneo para la flora europea. Esta especie ha sido hallada dentro de los viveros del Centro para la Investigación y la Experimentación Forestal de la Generalitat Valenciana, situados en la localidad valenciana de Quart de Poblet (Valencia, España). La coincidencia con citas recientes de nuevas especies alóctonas para la Península Ibérica localizadas en viveros de las mismas características (i. e. Cleome viscosa, Ludwigia hyssopifolia, Murdannia spirata, Dactyloctenium aegyptium) induce a sospechar que el principal vector de entrada para estas especies puede ser la fibra de coco, utilizada como componente en los sustratos empleados en el cultivo de plantas en los viveros., This paper reports, for the first time, the presence of the alien species Spermacoce latifolia Aubl. (Rubiaceae) in the European flora. This species has been found inside the nurseries in Centro para la Investigación y la Experimentación Forestal de la Generalitat Valenciana (Valencia, Spain). The coincidence with other recent appointments of new invader taxa in plant nurseries (i. e. Cleome viscosa, Ludwigia hyssopifolia, Murdannia spirata, Dactyloctenium aegyptium) for the Iberian peninsula induces us to suspect that the coconut fiber used as complementary substrata for plant culture, can be the main entry vector for these introductions.

A survey was also carried out to evaluated the management practices of oval-leaf false buttonweed by the farmers. One study in Ponta Grossa had as objective to evaluate the period of emergence of oval-leaf false buttonweed during one year, in area with and without vegetal covering, and also with and without mobilization of the soil. In another study also in Ponta Grossa an experiment was installed to evaluate the influence of cover crops in the reduction of the infestation of buttonweed in no-till with three winter cover crops: black oat, radish, black oat with common vetch and a fallow treatment. The experiment in the region of Irati had as objective to evaluate, besides the influences of cover crops, also the liming in the reduction of the population of buttonweed in black beans crop. The cover crops were the same as the experiment in Ponta Grossa. The management practices was evaluated through a questionnaire applied to seventeen farmers separated in two groups: 1) those who still regarded false buttonweed as a problem in the farm, and 2) those farmers who had false buttonweed as a problem but were able to solve it. In the study of period of emergence of false buttonweed the main peaks of flush were in October, November and December. The experiments to evaluate the effect of winter cover crops in Ponta Grossa and Irati have shown no effect on false buttonweed populations overall. There was also not diference in the liming treatments in Irati. The survey with the farmers of the region has shown that successfull farmers in the management of false buttonweed were those who use integrated weed management strategies. Com objetivo de avaliar alternativas de manejo da erva-quente (Spermacoce latifolia Aubl) em cultivo de feijão, foram realizados estudos na região Centro-Sul do Paraná, por meio da instalação de experimentos em Ponta Grossa e em Irati; também foi feito um diagnóstico para verificar os procedimentos adotados pelos agricultores da região no manejo dessa espécie. Em Ponta Grossa, um estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o fluxo de emergência de erva-quente durante um ano, em área com e sem cobertura vegetal, e com e sem mobilização do solo. Num segundo estudo, em Ponta Grossa, avaliou-se a influência de plantas de cobertura na redução da infestação de erva-quente em plantio direto, utilizando-se três espécies de cobertura vegetal de inverno: aveia-preta, nabo-forrageiro, aveia-preta com ervilhaca-comum e pousio. O experimento de Irati teve como objetivo avaliar a influência de plantas de cobertura e também a correção do solo na redução da população de erva-quente em cultivo sucessivo de feijão. As coberturas de inverno foram as mesmas usadas no experimento de Ponta Grossa. No levantamento das práticas de controle na região foi elaborado um questionário, que foi utilizado junto a dezessete agricultores nos municípios de Mallet, Rio Azul, Irati e Prudentópolis, separados em dois grupos: 1) os que ainda consideravam a erva-quente um problema na propriedade e 2) aqueles que já tiveram a erva-quente como problema e conseguiram solucioná-lo. No estudo do fluxo de emergência verificou-se que os principais meses de pico de emergência de erva-quente foram em outubro, novembro e dezembro. No conjunto dos experimentos para estudo da influência de plantas de cobertura em Ponta Grossa e Irati não se verificou efeito das coberturas testadas na população da erva-quente. Também não houve diferença quando se avaliou a influência do calcário na infestação de erva-quente. No levantamento das práticas de manejo da erva-quente se verificou que o grupo de agricultores com sucesso no controle da erva-quente é o que utiliza um sistema de rotação de culturas e manejo integrado de plantas daninhas.

Objetivou-se conhecer o período de floração e frutificação e os visitantes florais de Speimacoce latifolia Schum. e Spermacoce vertiollata (L.) G. Mey. O estudo foi realizado em áreas de vegetação secundária na Comunidade de Benjamin Constant no município de Bràgança, no estado do Pará. A floração e frutificação foram avaliadas, mensalmente, de setembro de 2001 a setembro de 2002, considerando-se desde a formação do. botões florais até a formação dos frutos. Todos os visitantes flora1s foram coletados durante o período diurno e, posteriormente, identificados no laboratório de Entomologia do Museu Paraense Emilio Goeldi (MPEG). S. latifolia floresceu em setembro e outubro e, seqüencialmente, nos meses de fevereiro a junho: e a frutificação ocorreu em novembro e de março a junho. Foram identificadas cinco espécies de insetos visitantes. S. verticillta floresceu em todos os meses de observação com pico de floração em fevereiro: e a frutificação ocorreu de novembro a fevereiro. Constatou-se a visita de quinze espécies de insetos. Nas duas espécies destacaram-se insetos das ordens Hymenoptera, Coleoptera e Hemiptera. S. latifolia e S. verticillata apresentaram padrão fenológico assincrônico.
