Abstract

The aim of this work is to integrate the West Slavic languages ​​into grammar and language comparisons using modern grammatical approaches. This is done using the example of the imperative sentence in Slovak with a view to other West Slavic languages. This type of sentence is examined for its formal and content-related characteristics. At the same time, its communicative-pragmatic potential is derived and explained from the structural meaning of this mode verbi. The demarcation between the grammar and the pragmatics of the imperative theorem will play an important role here., Das Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, die westslawischen Sprachen unter Anwendung moderner grammatiktheoretischer Ansätze in den Grammatik- und Sprachvergleich zu integrieren. Dies erfolgt am Beispiel des Imperativsatzes im Slowakischen mit Blick auf andere westslawische Sprachen. Dieser Satztyp wird hinsichtlich seiner formalen und inhaltlichen Eigenschaften untersucht. Zugleich wird sein kommunikativ-pragmatisches Potential aus der Strukturbedeutung dieses Modus verbi abgeleitet und erklärt. Dabei wird die Grenzziehung zwischen der Grammatik und der Pragmatik des Imperativsatzes eine wichtige Rolle spielen.

Abstract

We report on the fabrication of high-quality organic semiconducting thin films from the potent benchmark molecular compounds pentacene and C8-BTBT-C8. For organic films prepared by the floating-lens method, we observe 1D anisotropy in linear NEXAFS dichroism. Based on the molecular orientation contrast in scanning transmission x-ray microspectroscopy (STXM), azimuthal sample rotation and AFM, we can confirm a high degree of long-range molecular order. The experimental results allow for deeper insight into the presumed growth behavior, which appears to crucially depend on the nature, or more specifically, the aromaticity and volatility, of the used solvent. Focused X-ray beam induced deposition is a recently developed approach for fabrication of metallic nanostructures by selective activation of metal-organic precursors with the focused beam of a scanning transmission soft X-ray microscope. While a proof-of-concept has been successfully achieved, the current setup requires fundamental improvements to be competitive with other nanolithography tools. 29. On the Truth Conditional Potential of Negations

Abstract

According to Partee (1991) and Hajicova/Partee/Sgall (1998), the meaning of natural language sentences corresponds to the tripartite structure. Scope relations within the sentence meaning may effect different readings of DPs. The essential point is the syntactic position of a DP relative to the position of the (possible) sentence negation. It can be shown that the scope of negation coincides with the domain of prosodic focus. The semantic counterpart of focus is the critical meaning of the sentence or - speaking with Roberts (1996) - its partial answer. Scope relations within the sentence yield complex, nested function-argument structures. The resultant operations mapping properties onto individuals mark the structural precondition for DP-readings, e.g. for the specific reading of indefinite DPs. The presentation regards German data as well as data from Czech, which has no overt article system. The movement of DPs out of the prosodically unmarked focus, i.e. the focus of new information, results in the specific DP-reading, at least in the reading of the DP as an individual term: Petr si autoi koupil ti 'Peter cari bought ti' (= Peter bought the car). 30. Events under Negation

Abstract

The paper centers on the problem of how the event role of verbs interacts with sentence negation. We investigate the behavior of sentence negation in the syntax-semantics mapping, placing special focus on the influence of sentence negation on the readings of DPs and its contribution to the truth-conditions of sentence meaning. We claim that the readings of DPs and their status of being presuppositional depend on the syntactic position of the DPs relative to a possible sentencenegation operator. Furthermore, we present a few examples, proving how, under the same structural preconditions, sentence negation has an impact on the aspectual reference of event descriptions and temporal modificaton. The observations made lead us to locating sentence negation at a fixed syntactical position immediately above the focus domain, thereby excluding that natural language grammaticalizes an equivalent to the sentence-external negation of Propositional Logic. Concluding on these assumptions, we discuss some logical, ontological, and compositional prerequisites that reveal the problems raised by internal negation. Abstract

Fishing for riboflavin: Highly magnetic polymer-coated Fe/C nanoparticles are used as supports for zinc(II)–cyclen complexes. Quantitative and reversible extraction of riboflavin (vitamin B2) from aqueous solutions and a vitamin dietary supplement is achieved retaining high efficacy for six consecutive cycles. Applying an external magnetic field readily recycles the nanobeads.

Abstract

There is a strong market driven need for processing organic photovoltaics from eco-friendly solvents. Water-dispersed organic semiconducting nanoparticles (NPs) satisfy these premises convincingly. However, the necessity of surfactants, which are inevitable for stabilizing NPs, is a major obstacle towards realizing competitive power conversion efficiencies for water-processed devices. Here, we report on a concept for minimizing the adverse impact of surfactants on solar cell performance. A poloxamer facilitates the purification of organic semiconducting NPs through stripping excess surfactants from aqueous dispersion. The use of surfactant-stripped NPs based on poly(3-hexylthiophene) / non-fullerene acceptor leads to a device efficiency and stability comparable to the one from devices processed by halogenated solvents. A record efficiency of 7.5% is achieved for NP devices based on a low-band gap polymer system. This elegant approach opens an avenue that future organic photovoltaics processing may be indeed based on non-toxic water-based nanoparticle inks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Different concepts for recognition of organic ammonium ions in solution are discussed. In the practical part of the thesis di- and tritopic artificial receptors for ammonium ions, amino acids, neurotransmitters and different biological important peptides bearing ammonium and phosphate groups are presented. The second part deals with the modification of amino acids leading to artificial amino acids, guanidinium-bis-carboxylates and cyclopeptides.
