3. Direct and Indirect methods of electrocaloric effect determination and energy storage calculation in (Na0.8K0.2)0.5Bi0.5TiO3 ceramic

Abstract

The coexistence of multiple structural phases and field induced short-range to long-range order transition in ferroelectric materials, leads to a strong electrocaloric effect (ECE) and electrical energy storage density (Wrec) in the vicinity of ferroelectric to non-ergodic phase transition in NKBT ceramic. Structural analysis using X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy and TEM studies ascertained the coexistence of tetragonal (P4mm) and rhombohedral (R3c) phases. Dielectric study has revealed a critical slowing down of polar domain dynamics below a diffuse phase transition. Present investigation reports ECE in lead-free (Na0.8K0.2)0.5Bi0.5TiO3 (NKBT) ceramic by direct and indirect methods, which confirm the multifunctional nature of NKBT and its usefulness for applications in refrigeration and energy storage. A direct method of EC measurement in NKBT ceramic exhibits significant adiabatic temperature change ({\Delta}T) ~ 1.10 K and electrocaloric strength ({\xi}) ~ 0.55 Kmm/kV near the ferroelectric to non-ergodic phase transition at an external applied field of 20 kV/cm. A highest recoverable energy (Wrec) ~ 0.78 J/cm3 and electrical storage efficiency ({\eta}) ~ 86% are achieved at 423 K and an applied field of 20 kV/cm. Abstract

Within the macroscopic approach, investigation of different decay modes such as alpha-decay, cluster-decay ([sup.12]C to [sup.40]Ca), heavy particle radioactivity (HPR) ([sup.58]Ni to [sup.85]Rb), and spontaneous fission (SF) half-lives are investigated in detail in the superheavy element (SHE), Z = 119. The decay energies, penetration probability, and different decay half-lives in the isotopes of synthesized superheavy nuclei (SHN) [sup.290-303]119 are evaluated. Both [sup.12]C and [sup.40]Ar cluster emissions reveal shorter half-lives when compared to other cluster emissions. Furthermore, [sup.85]Rb heavy particle emission from the SHN [sup.290-303]119 discloses shorter half-lives compared to other heavy particle emissions. From the comparison of different decay half-lives, it is observed that [sup.85]Rb HPR is dominant in the region [sup.290-299]119, alpha-decay is dominant for the [sup.300-302]119, and SF half-lives are predominant in [sup.303]119 nuclei. Hence, the prediction of decay modes and decay path in the SHE, Z = 119 are helpful in the identification of experimentally synthesized SHE. Abstract

Role of the Coulomb interaction, mean fissility, mass asymmetry, and charge asymmetry parameters on the synthesis of heavy and superheavy elements has been examined with respect to the deformation parameters of the projectile and target nuclei explicitly in light of the experimental results. The observed facts are classified into four categories and are then used to study several unsuccessful as well as planned reactions to synthesize the new superheavy elements $Z= 119, 120$. Concrete inference is too difficult to draw from these results because of excessive deviations in evaporation residue cross-section data. It is found that the arbitrary choice of excitation energy for the experiments studied was the root cause of such large deviations. Such a complex issue can be resolved well by theoretical excitation function studies using the advanced statistical model or the dinuclear system model and choosing the excitation energy corresponding to the energy where the excitation function curve shows the maximum. We believe this method may help us to predict whether the estimated evaporation residue cross-section can be measurable within the experimental limit of the existing facilities for the future reactions planned., Comment: 5 figures

21. Supremacy of optimal beam energy for synthesis of superheavy elements

Abstract

Besides right choice of entrance channel, selection of optimal beam energies for synthesis of superheavy elements plays a crucial role. A thorough investigation with the advanced statistical and dinuclear system models on all the experiments performed for the synthesis of the successful superheavy elements Z=104-118 and failed superheavy elements Z=119-120 leads us to infer that improper choice of the beam energies may be responsible for too low production cross sections to measure and thus the cause for the debacle. We have predicted the optimal beam energies to obtain the maximum production cross sections for all the reactions used for the superheavy elements Z=104-120. Abstract

Coulomb fission mechanism may take place if the maximum Coulomb-excitation energy transfer in a reaction exceeds the fission barrier of either the projectile or target. This condition is satisfied by all the reactions used for the earlier blocking measurements except one reaction 208 Pb + Natural Ge crystal, where the measured timescale was below the measuring limit of the blocking measurements < 1 as. Hence, inclusion of the Coulomb fission in the data analysis of the blocking experiments leads us to interpret that the measured time longer than a few attoseconds (about 2-2.5 as) is nothing but belonging to the Coulomb fission timescale and shorter than 1 as are due to the quasifission. Consequently, this finding resolves the critical discrepancies between the fission timescale measurements using the nuclear and blocking techniques. This, in turn, validates the fact that the quasifission timescale is indeed of the order of zeptoseconds in accordance with the nuclear experiments and theories.
