Abstract

The goal of this research is to provide a detailed overview of macroscopic and microscopic factors influencing soiling. This includes a global analysis of key parameters including dust characteristics (size of dust grains, size distribution), and particle deposition rates. The results of outdoor experiments show a negative proportionality relationship between the dust rate and the normalized PV power with a drop of up to 40% for 20 g of dust compared to the performance of the reference PV panel which has been cleaned regularly. Our results indicate that the total transmission decreases linearly in an approximately way as a function of the mass of dust and size deposited per unit area, with the slope being highly sensitive to the absorptivity of the dust. Overall, the study aims to provide a useful, in-depth but also global overview and fundamental understanding of soiling processes on PV modules, which could be used to develop appropriate soiling mitigation strategies. Abstract

We study a sizing method using Artificial Intelligence Techniques (AI) to find the optimal sizes of a standalone photovoltaic system in Ngoundiane, Senegal. The sizing of the PV system is considered here as a mono-objective problem and the Total Life Cycle Cost (TLCC) is the « Objective » function to minimize. Based on some constraints and after 10 simulations, the optimisation gives, as a result, an optimal value of TLCC corresponding to the combination of 225750 WC/8100 Ah. This result show that the method using Genetic Algorithm (GA) increases considerably the photovoltaic capacity compared to the intuitive and numerical methods used in our previous works. The GA method better covers the load demand, with more long time, when compared with those obtained with numerical method. These results confirm that this method is effective and reliable because it allows the design of a PV system that satisfies the load demand of the Ngoundiane site with a lower cost. Abstract

In this paper we present an accurate analysis of the shape of an isolated rovibrational ammonia line from the strong &ngr;2 band around 10 &mgr;m, recorded by laser absorption spectroscopy. Experimental spectra obtained under controlled temperature and pressure are confronted to various models that take into account Dicke narrowing or speed-dependent effects. Our results show a deviation from the Voigt profile probably dominated by speed-dependent broadening and shifting. Accurate line-shape parameters of the &ngr;2 saQ(6,3) line are obtained. Our current project aiming at measuring the Boltzmann constant, kB, by laser spectroscopy will immediately benefit from such knowledge. We anticipate that an optical determination of kB with a competitive uncertainty of a few parts per million is now reachable. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
