However, does these consequences also present in college students from a low urbanization city?Objective: To evaluate the prevalence and social, biological and behavioral factors associated with sleep deprivation and social jet lag in university students from a low urbanized city of Brazil.Methods: A total of 298 university students participated in the study through application of the Health and Sleep and the Munich Chronotype Questionnaires. Multiple linear regression with stepwise-forward method was adopted to assess the associations of the factors with the outcome variables.Results: Doing leisure activities (LA) (B = 23.24) and academic demand (AD) before bedtime (B = 19.51), both on the weekend, and doing household chores (HC) before bedtime (B = 17.61) in the week were associated with an increase in social jet lag, while stimulating drinks (SD) were associated with a decrease (B = − 15.17). Shorter sleep duration in the week was related to chronotype (B = − 0.56), male (B = − 26.51), doing LA (B = − 27.63), poor perception about sleeping place (PPSP) (B = − 43.02) and daily commute (B = − 68.97). The shorter sleep duration in the weekend was associated to male (B = − 36.36), PPSP (B = − 58.16), have recreational and religious activities (B = − 31.11), doing LA (B = − 25.10) and AD (B = − 23.60). Just chronotype was associated with longer sleep duration in the weekend (B = 0.25).Conclusion: University students from a low urbanized city present social jet lag, shorter sleep duration on school days and longer sleep duration on free days as a result of biological and social factors, and mostly behavioral factors.Keywords: sleep-wake cycle, level of urbanization, sleep deprivation, sleep irregularity

Two hundred and seventy-two sedentary women with a mean age of 66.75 ± 5.38 years were recruited for participation in this study. Obesity was determined by both body mass index and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) evaluations. Sarcopenic obesity diagnosis was established from the ratio between fat-free mass and body surface area as obtained by DXA. There was no association of obesity with sarcopenic obesity (P = 0.424). In contrast, sarcopenia was significantly related to sarcopenic obesity (P < 0.001), although most of the elderly women with sarcopenia (n = 171) did not exhibit sarcopenic obesity. These results highlight the importance of diagnosing sarcopenic obesity as elderly women exhibiting sarcopenia could be either eutrophic or obese.Keywords: sarcopenic obesity, aging, obesity, sarcopenia, health

In this sense, the aim of the present study was to compare the effects of different super-set exercise sequences on the total training volume. A secondary aim was to evaluate the ratings of perceived exertion and fatigue index in response to different exercise order. On separate testing days, twelve resistance-trained men, aged 23.0 ± 4.3 years, height 174.8 ± 6.75 cm, body mass 77.8 ± 13.27 kg, body fat 12.0% ± 4.7%, were submitted to a super-set method by using two different exercise orders: quadriceps (leg extension) + hamstrings (leg curl) (QH) or hamstrings (leg curl) + quadriceps (leg extension) (HQ). Sessions consisted of three sets with a ten-repetition maximum load with 90 seconds rest between sets. Results revealed that the total training volume was higher for the HQ exercise order (P = 0.02) with lower perceived exertion than the inverse order (P = 0.04). These results suggest that HQ exercise order involving lower limbs may benefit practitioners interested in reaching a higher total training volume with lower ratings of perceived exertion compared with the leg extension plus leg curl order.Keywords: resistance training, super-set method, ratings of perceived exertion, total training volume

Nicotine is one of the most toxic substances found in cigarettes, but also found in chewing tobacco gum, patches and vaping products (electronic cigarettes). In addition to being a highly addictive chemical, it is capable of reducing fertility in men and women. In the ovaries, it can induce morphological changes and impair the formation of follicles, being a possible cause of changes in the reproductive cycle and anticipation of menopause in women whose mothers smoked during pregnancy. By increasing the generation of free radicals, nicotine can induce oxidation in biological samples and change the expression of inflammatory cytokines. It damages the immune system and many other cells of newborns exposed prenatally. Despite its teratogenic potential, many women continue to use this drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Thus, this work aims to analyze the effects of maternal exposure to nicotine on the ovaries of adult rats. To this end, 10 rats received nicotine throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding. Their offspring were euthanized around 90 days-old, in the metestrus phase, for ovary collection and analysis of oxidative stress and inflammation. The results showed that exposure to nicotine increased MDA level, but did not cause damage to the DNA of ovarian cells (8-OHdG). It also increased IL-1β and anti-inflammatory protein AnxA1 and receptor Fpr1, and reduced the mast cell population in ovaries. Background: Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is a common malignancy, and nephrectomy is the mainstay of treatment for non-metastatic disease. The choice of surgery depends on the risks of oncologic recurrence, kidney function decline, and perioperative complications. This study aimed to identify factors associated with adverse post-operative outcomes in RCC patients undergoing nephrectomy at Townsville University Hospital (TUH)., Methods: This was a retrospective, quality assessment study of all adult patients undergoing either open or laparoscopic, partial, or radical nephrectomy for suspected RCC at TUH between January 1, 2016, and December 31, 2020. Patients were identified from the Queensland Health Admitted Data Collection, with a median follow-up time of 39 months post-operatively., Results: Sixty patients were included; 71.7% underwent radical nephrectomy, and 63.3% were treated with a laparoscopic approach. Adverse kidney function outcomes were identified in 76.7% of patients. In the first 30 days post-nephrectomy, the reduction in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) in the radical nephrectomy group was more than double that in the partial nephrectomy group (p < 0.001). The rise in average serum creatinine post-radical nephrectomy was more than six times that post-partial nephrectomy (p = 0.001). This discrepancy in kidney function persisted up to three years post-operatively. No significant differences in RCC recurrence, post-operative cardiovascular events, or mortality were observed between partial nephrectomy and radical nephrectomy (p = 0.665, p = 1.00, p = 0.420)., Conclusions: The balance strongly favours partial nephrectomy despite its underutilisation for patients undergoing nephrectomy for suspected non-metastatic RCC at TUH. This work describes the direct deposition of ZIF-67 metal-organic framework (MOF) onto Ti/TiO 2 nanotubes forming a photoanode for the degradation of the antidepressant Venlafaxine (VEN). This material combines the excellent characteristics of ZIF-67 MOF in enhancing photocatalytic reduction and oxidation reactions induced by UV LED irradiation, as well as the storage of VEN molecules in its pores. Ti/TiO 2 -ZIF-67 features an eco-friendly technology for degradation of pharmaceutical micropollutants such as antidepressants. The photoanode was prepared, characterized and applied in the degradation of VEN by photocatalysis (PC), electrocatalysis (EC), photolysis (PL) and PEC processes. PEC process presented the best performance when compared to the others processes in both simulated solutions and real wastewater, achieving 100% and 89% degradation of VEN after 60 and 90 min, with TOC removal rates of 50% and 4%, respectively. The lower mineralization rate suggests that the degradation of VEN in complex matrices such as that of real wastewater produced recalcitrant by-products that are difficult to convert into CO 2 and H 2 O. Zeta potential measurement showed that at pH 6 and 8 there is an effect of attraction of opposite electrostatic charges between the surface of ZIF-67 (positive) and VEN (negative), favoring the degradation of VEN in this pH range. The good performance of the Ti/TiO 2 -ZIF-67 can be attributed to the formation of the Z-scheme heterojunction between the TiO 2 nanotubes and the ZIF-67 MOF which contributed to a lower rate of electron-hole (e - /h + ) pairs recombination, favoring VEN degradation mainly to higher generation of • OH radical and less contribution of O 2 •- superoxide produced by UV irradiation forming some degradation by-products through demethylation and oxidation reactions., Competing Interests: Declaration of competing interest The authors declare that they have no known competing financial interests or personal relationships that could have appeared to influence the work reported in this paper., (Copyright © 2024 Elsevier Ltd. The capacity of recipients to support transferred embryos is a challenge for dairy cattle production systems. This review explores methods for increasing P4 to improve early pregnancy establishment in dairy cattle. A key aspect of P4 supplementation during the critical first weeks of pregnancy is its correlation with successful embryo elongation. Moreover, P4 was correlated to an increased chance of embryo survival after maternal recognition of pregnancy. Internal releasing devices increase circulating P4 concentrations but may negatively impact fertility possibly due to unwanted health pathologies such as vaginitis and the still undefined mechanism of haste luteolysis. The accessory corpus luteum (CL) induction in recipient dairy cattle increases endogenous P4 output increasing circulating P4 concentrations. Two ovulatory inducers are commonly used: gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). Despite their distinct structures, GnRH and hCG are equally capable of inducing ovulation in cattle. The P4 supplementation by an accessory CL formation was widely used in fixed-time artificial insemination breeding programs, but still not exhaustively studied in embryo transfer (ET) programs. The induction of an accessory CL in ET programs has yielded inconsistent results depending on parity, embryo type production, embryo stage of development, and type of hormone used. Malaria is a serious public health problem, being an endemic disease in 84 countries, mainly in Africa. This review explores the application of capillary electrophoresis (CE) techniques for analyzing antimalarial drugs, highlighting methods from 2000 to 2023 for the analysis of pharmaceutical formulations and human biological samples. The versatility, selectivity, high efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and high analytical frequency of CE techniques have become attractive choices for pharmaceutical analysis, focusing on quality control and impurity analysis applications. The evolution of achiral and chiral electromigration methods has been described based on the features of each mode of separation: capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE), micellar electrokinetic chromatography, microemulsion electrokinetic chromatography, and capillary electrochromatography. As expected, CZE is reported in most articles owing to its compatibility with drug properties and separation mode. However, it is necessary to perform other separation modes for a few drugs that are present in neutral form. After exhaustive research using different databases and statistical analyses, 27 articles using CE techniques for antimalarial drug analysis were found and are mentioned in this review.

Ag 2 CrO 4 is a representative member of a family of Ag-containing semiconductors with highly efficient visible-light-driven responsive photocatalysts. The doping process with Eu 3+ is known to effectively tune their properties, thus opening opportunities for investigations and application. Here, we report the enhancement of the photocatalytic activity and stability of Ag 2 CrO 4 by introducing Eu 3+ cations. The structural, electronic, and photocatalytic properties of Ag 2 CrO 4 : x Eu 3+ ( x = 0, 0.25, 0.5, 1%) synthesized using the coprecipitation method were systematically discussed, and their photodegradation activity against rhodamine B (RhB), ciprofloxacin hydrochloride monohydrate (CIP), and 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) was evaluated. Structural analyses reveal a short-range symmetry breaking in the Ag 2 CrO 4 lattice after Eu 3+ doping, influencing the material morphology, size, and electronic properties. XPS analysis confirmed the incorporation of Eu 3+ and alteration of the surface oxygen species. Furthermore, photoluminescence measurements indicated that the doping process was responsible for reducing recombination processes. The sample doped with 0.25% Eu 3+ exhibited superior photocatalytic performance compared to pure Ag 2 CrO 4 . Scavenger experiments revealed an increase in the degradation via • OH reactive species for the sample doped with 0.25% Eu 3+ . DFT calculations provided atomic-scale insights into the structural and electronic changes induced by the Eu 3+ doping process in the Ag 2 CrO 4 host lattice. The objective was to estimate the growth curves and genetic parameters using random regression methodology for Nellore cattle raised in Pantanal, MS, Brazil (6974 calves; n = 53,233 weights), with at least four weighings per individual. The model considered direct and maternal genetic additives and maternal permanent environmental effects at random. Orthogonal Legendre polynomials of cubic order were used to fit the growth curve. Analyses of variance were performed using the GLM procedure. The model used contained the fixed effects of sex, year of birth, farm, and the covariates calf birth month (linear and quadratic) and cow age at calving (linear and quadratic). The adjusted mean weight at 120 days of age was 93.43 ± 19.78 kg, and for 205 days of age, it was 180.42 ± 26.58 kg. Animals born in the dry season had a higher average weight [kg] (219.57 vs. 211.78, 3.7% higher) and, consequently, had higher weights at 646 days of age. Estimates of direct heritabilities (h 2 a) ranged from 0.35 to 0.75 (high magnitudes), and maternal heritabilities (h 2 m) along the trajectory of low magnitudes ranged from 0.03 to 0.08, respectively. The use of random regression to evaluate beef animals allows for adjusting the growth curve and selecting the best animals to be the parents of future generations.

A comprehensive data set of ecstasy samples containing MDMA (N-methyl-3,4-methylenedioxyamphetamine) and MDA (3,4-methylenedioxyamphetamine) seized by the Brazilian Federal Police was characterized using spectral data obtained by a compact, low-cost, near-infrared Fourier-transform based spectrophotometer. Qualitative and quantitative characterization was accomplished using soft independent modeling of class analogy (SIMCA), linear discriminant analysis (LDA) classification, discriminating partial least square (PLS-DA), and regression models based on partial least square (PLS). By applying chemometric analysis, a protocol can be proposed for the in-field screening of seized ecstasy samples. The validation led to an efficiency superior to 96 % for ecstasy classification and estimating total actives, MDMA, and MDA content in the samples with a root mean square error of validation of 4.4, 4.2, and 2.7 % (m/m), respectively. Vismia japurensis Reichardt is a plant of ecological and chemical importance from which a variety of bioactive substances have been isolated. The current study aimed to establish in vitro cultures of this species as a source of secondary metabolites. Appropriate decontamination treatments and germination tests were performed and, after in vitro culture establishment, the propagated plants were multiplied in a sterile environment to increase the biomass of available experimental material. Seeds showed low contamination and a high germination percentage on Woody Plant Medium (WPM) supplemented with gibberellic acid (both at concentrations of 5 and 10 mg/L). V. japurensis nodal segments rapidly regenerated when first grown in WPM and then transplanted to Murashige and Skoog medium (MS). After 60 days in MS medium, the propagated plants were removed, lyophilized, and extracted with hexane and methanol. The hexane extract was fractionated via open column chromatography, and the substance isolated was purified by high performance liquid chromatography. Structural determination of the isolated substance was carried out using one and two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance and mass spectrometry. The isolated substance was identified as 1,8,10-trihydroxy-3,10-dimethyl-9(10H)-anthracenone, which, based on the conducted literature search, is reported for the first time.

Background: Head trauma is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide. Young males, Indigenous people, and rural/remote residents have been identified as high-risk populations for head trauma, however, Australian research is limited. Our aim was to define and describe the incidence, demographics, causes, prehospital interventions, and outcomes of head trauma patients transported by aeromedical services within North Queensland, Australia. We hypothesized that young, Indigenous males living remotely would be disproportionately affected by head trauma., Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of all head trauma patients transferred by air to or between Townsville, Cairns, Mount Isa and Mackay Hospitals between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2018. Patients were identified from the Trauma Care in the Tropics data registry and followed for a median 30-months post-injury. Primary endpoints were patient and injury characteristics. Secondary outcome measures were hospital stay and mortality., Results: A total of 981 patients were included and 31.1 % were Indigenous. Sixty-seven percent of injuries occurred remotely and the median time from injury to hospital was 5.8-hours (range 67-3780 min). Eighty percent of severe head injuries occurred in males (p = 0.007). Indigenous and remote patients were more likely to sustain mild injuries. The most common mechanism of injury overall was vehicle accident (37.5 %), compared to assault in the Indigenous subgroup (46.6 %, p<0.001). The overall mortality rate was 4.9 %, with older age and lower initial Glasgow Coma Score significant predictors of in-hospital mortality. Prehospital intubation was associated with a 7-fold increased risk of mortality (p = 0.056), while patients that received tranexamic acid (TXA) were almost 5-times more likely to die., Conclusions: In North Queensland, young Indigenous males are at highest risk of traumatic head injuries. Vehicle accidents are an important preventable cause of head injury in the region. TXA administration is an important consideration for remote head trauma retrievals, in which time to emergency care is prolonged. Using atomistic simulations, we have investigated the transport and annihilation of skyrmions interacting with a funnel array under a current applied perpendicular to the funnel axis. We find that transport without annihilation is possible at low currents, when the motion is dominated by skyrmion-skyrmion interactions and skyrmions push each other through the funnel opening. Skyrmion annihilation occurs for higher currents when skyrmions in the upper half of the sample exert pressure on skyrmions in the bottom half of the sample due to the external current. Upon interacting with the funnel wall, the skyrmions undergo a size reduction that makes it easier for them to pass through the funnel opening. We find five phases as a function of the applied current and the size of the funnel opening: (i) pinned, (ii) transport without annihilation, (iii) transport with annihilation, (iv) complete annihilation, and (v) a reentrant pinning phase that only occurs for very narrow openings. Our findings provide insight into how to control skyrmion transport using funnel arrays by delineating regimes in which transport of skyrmions is possible as well as the conditions under which annihilation occurs., (© 2023 IOP Publishing Ltd.)

Few studies in the literature integrate rainwater harvesting and firefighting. Thus, the general objective of this paper was to evaluate the potential use of rainwater as a source of water for firefighting. To do so, two approaches were proposed for the assessment. The first approach was the analysis of the existing literature. Two databases were evaluated as references in engineering fields, of which 32 articles mentioned rainwater as an alternative for firefighting. The main result of the review was the scarcity of articles in the area under study, with some of the existing articles focusing on forest fires. In contrast, others analysed the use of rainwater within the scope of buildings or fire stations. The second approach involved a case study that started by analysing the fire statistics provided by the Military Fire Department of the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. It was observed that, between 2017 and 2020, building fires represented 25 % of the state's fires and 50 % of the water consumption in firefighting, while the rest of the fire occurrences represented the other half of water consumption. Rainwater can be used not only to reduce the total consumption of potable water but also as a logistics tool towards better response time in the event of a fire. With the firefighting water demand obtained, a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) approach was performed to assess the potential environmental optimisation in a simplified scope. It was performed in a cradle-to-gate approach, leaving the potential optimisations in transport and logistics apart. Also, a cost assessment was carried out, obtaining a much lower cost for firefighting and providing financial savings for fire stations. Aim: This bibliometric study analyzed the characteristics of the 100 most cited articles on bone grafts in dentistry., Materials and Methods: A database search was performed on the Web of Science Core Collection using a specific search strategy. Scopus and Google Scholar were also consulted for citation comparisons. Data extracted included: title, citation metrics, publication year, journal, study design, graft material, surgical technique, authors, institution, and country. Bibliometric networks were generated using VOSviewer., Results: The identified articles were published between 1991 and 2019. Citation counts ranged from 120 to 1161 (mean: 240, 30). Clinical Oral Implants Research was the most cited journal (5175 citations; 25/100). Xenogeneic bone graft material was the most frequently used (5130 citations; 22/100). Europe had 62 articles (14,604 citations), and the United States was the most prominent country (5209 citations; 22/100). The University of Bern had the highest number of citations (2565 citations; 13/100), with Buser D as the author with the largest number of articles (2648 citations; 12/100)., Conclusion: This study shows the scientific progress on bone grafts in dentistry. Spotted fever caused by the bacterium Rickettsia parkeri, and canine rangeliosis caused by the protozoan Rangelia vitalii, are emerging or re-emerging tick-borne diseases in Brazil, where the main tick vectors are Amblyomma ovale and Amblyomma aureolatum, respectively. In the present study, we evaluated exposure to R. parkeri and R. vitalii infection among domestic (Canis lupus familiaris) and wild (Cerdocyon thous) canids sharing living areas within an Atlantic Forest area of southern Brazil. Four different domestic dogs and three different wild canids were captured. Most of the ticks collected from either domestic or wild canids were identified as A. ovale and A. aureolatum. DNA of R. parkeri was amplified from 14% of the A. ovale specimens. Two domestic dogs and two wild canids were seroreactive to R. parkeri antigens with high endpoint titers (>1024). Rangelia vitalii DNA was detected in two wild canids; one of them was resampled 93 days later, again infected by R. vitalii. We report exposure/infection of domestic dogs and wild canids to R. vitalii and/or R. parkeri-infected ticks in an Atlantic Forest area shared by both canid species, indicating that they also shared the same populations of the tick vectors, A. aureolatum and A. ovale. While A. ovale, A. aureolatum, R. parkeri, R. vitalii and C. thous, are all native to the Atlantic Forest, further studies are needed to evaluate the impact of an exotic canine species - C. lupus familiaris - on the enzootic cycles of R. vitalii and R. parkeri, as well as the possible role of domestic dogs in emergence and re-emergence of R. parkeri-spotted fever in humans and canine rangeliosis, respectively., Competing Interests: Declaration of Competing Interest The authors declare no conflict of interest., (Copyright © 2023 Elsevier B.V. Background: Breast cancer (BC) is the second most frequent type of cancer in the world and most common among women, configuring a major challenge to global health. BC is a complex and heterogeneous disease that can be subdivided into distinct tumor types based on the expression of molecular markers predicting patient outcomes and response to therapy. A growing number of studies have tried to expand the known markers by investigating the association of altered lipid metabolism with BC immune escape, progression, and metastasis. In this review, we describe the metabolic peculiarities of each BC subtype, understanding how this influences its aggressiveness and identifying whether these intrinsic vulnerabilities of each subtype can play a role in therapeutic management and may affect immune system cells in the tumor microenvironment., Conclusion: The evidence suggests so far that when changes occur in lipid pathways, it can affect the availability of structural lipids for membrane synthesis, lipid synthesis, and degradation that contribute to energy homeostasis and cell signaling functions. These findings will guide the next steps on the path to understanding the mechanisms underlying how lipids alterations are related to disparities in chemotherapeutic response and immune escape in BC. Smoking can lead to several diseases and cause a reduction in fertility in men and women. Among the various components of cigarettes harmful during pregnancy, nicotine stands out. It can cause a reduction in placental blood flow, compromising the development of the baby with neurological, reproductive and endocrine consequences. Thus, we aimed to evaluate the effects of nicotine on the pituitary-gonadal axis of rats exposed during pregnancy and breastfeeding (1st generation - F1), and whether the possible damage observed would reach the 2nd generation (F2). Pregnant Wistar rats received 2 mg/kg/day of nicotine throughout the entire gestation and lactation. Part of the offspring was evaluated on the first neonatal day (F1) for macroscopic, histopathological and immunohistochemical analyses of brain and gonads. Another part of the offspring was kept until 90 days-old for mating and obtainment of progenies that had the same parameters evaluated at the end of pregnancy (F2). The occurrence of malformations was more frequent and diversified in nicotine-exposed F2. Brain alterations, including reduced size and changes in cell proliferation and death, were seen in both generations of nicotine-exposed rats. Male and female gonads of F1 exposed rats were also affected. The F2 rats showed reduced cellular proliferation and increased cell death on the pituitary and ovaries, besides increased anogenital distance in females. The number of mast cells was not enough altered to indicate an inflammatory process in brain and gonads. Creatinine is a well-stablished biomarker for kidney malfunctions and for normalization parameter of urinary quantitative information. Recently, metabolic studies have been discovering other functionalities for creatinine tests in human urine and blood serum. In this work we present an enhanced capillary electrophoresis (CE) based protocol for determination of creatinine. CE is a high-throughput separation technique that have been getting attention through the last decades and might be considered to be adopted as an analytical instrumentation for clinical purposes. In the proposed method, we performed a short injection program with on-column addition of internal standard. Additionally, the method allows a simultaneous screening of non-proteinogenic amino acids that could be considered for metabolomics purposes. We design a pilot study that successfully estimated the creatinine value in 100 urine samples with (2.85 ± 1.78) mg dL -1 LOD; (8.24 ± 5.93) mg dL -1 LOQ and 82.4% accuracy. Considering that serum creatinine is also included in the clinical laboratory routines for estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate dosage, the method was complementary applied to 10 blood serum samples, which resulted in a model with (0.4 ± 0.2) mg dL -1 LOD; (2.0 ± 0.6) mg dL -1 LOQ and 83.8% of accuracy. All results were in agreement with reference values. Investigations of untargeted metabolomics are based on high-quality data acquisition usually from multiplatform systems that include high-resolution mass spectrometry equipment. The comprehensive set of results is used as data entry for bioinformatics and machine learning sciences to access reliable metabolic and biochemical information for clinical, forensic, environmental, and endless applications. In this context, design of experiments is a powerful tool for optimizing data acquisition procedures, using a multivariate approach, which enables the maximization of a high-quality amount of information with reduced number of tests. In this study, we applied a 3 3 Box-Behnken factorial design with central point triplicate for optimizing the ionization of an HPLC-ESI-QTOF method used for screening urine samples. Nozzle voltage (V), fragmentor voltage (V) and nebulizer pressure (psig) were the factors selected for variation. The response surface methodology was applied in the molecular features extracted at each level, resulting in a statistical model that helps evaluating the synergic interaction between these factors. Together with the qualitative analysis of the resulting total ion chromatograms, we came across a reproducible (6.14% RSD) and highly efficient method for untargeted metabolomics of human urine samples. The proposed method can be useful for applications in several urine-based metabolomics-driven studies, as the factorial design can be applied in the development of any analytical protocol considering different LC-MS setups.

The uncertainties about COVID-19 require evaluating national responses to identify successes and failures in the pandemic control. This article analyzes Portugal´s response, particularly the contribution of its health and surveillance systems in dealing with the pandemic. An integrative literature review was conducted, including consultations of observatories, documents, and institutional websites. Portugal´s response was agile and showed unified technical and political coordination, including surveillance structure using telemedicine. The reopening was supported by high testing and low positivity rates and strict rules. However, the relaxation of measures as of November/2020 resulted in an increase in cases, collapsing the health system. The response involved a consistent surveillance strategy with innovative monitoring tools, which, combined with high population adherence to vaccination, led to overcoming that moment and kept hospitalization and death rates at new disease waves at low levels. Thus, the Portuguese case discloses the risks of disease resurgence with the flexibility of measures and the population´s exhaustion in the face of restrictive measures and new variants, but also the importance of articulation between technical coordination, the political sphere, and the scientific committee.

Chrononutrition is a science that studies the relationship between mealtimes and sleep/wake habits. However, these behaviors are not evaluated by a single questionnaire. Therefore, this study aimed to translate and culturally adapt the Chrononutrition Profile - Questionnaire (CP-Q) into Portuguese and validate the Brazilian version. The translation and cultural adaptation process consisted of: translation; synthesis of translations; backtranslation; expert committee and pre-test. The validation was performed with 635 participants (32.4 ± 11.2 years) who answered the CPQ-Brazil and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI); Munich Chronotype Questionnaire (MCTQ); Night Eating questionnaire; Quality of life and health index (SF-36) and 24 h-recall. The participants were mostly female, single, from the northeastern region, a eutrophic profile, and average quality of life score of 55.8 ± 17.9. Moderate to strong correlations were observed in the sleep/wake schedules between CPQ-Brazil, PSQI and MCTQ, both for work/study days and free days. The correlations between largest meal, skipping breakfast, eating window, nocturnal latency, and last eating event with the same variables in the 24 h-recall showed moderate to strong positive correlations. The translation, adaptation, validation and reproducibility of the CP-Q generates a valid and reliable questionnaire to assess the sleep/wake and eating habits in the Brazilian population.

The objective was to determine the effect of inducing an accessory corpus luteum (CL) using GnRH or human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) on the day of in vitro-produced (IVP) embryo transfer (ET) on pregnancy per ET (P/ET) and calving/ET in dairy heifers and lactating cows. Dairy heifers (11-15 mo of age; n = 1,547) and lactating cows (n = 1,480) detected in estrus by tail chalk (d 0) were used as recipients. Before ET, the presence of a CL was evaluated by transrectal palpation from d 6 to 9 of the estrous cycle. Animals with a CL were randomly assigned to receive 1 of 3 treatments immediately before ET: control (no treatment; n = 1,009), GnRH (86 µg of GnRH; n = 1,085) and hCG (2,500 IU; n = 1,069). Embryos were implanted in the uterine horn ipsilateral to the ovary with a CL (fresh IVP embryos, n = 2,544; vitrified IVP embryos n = 545; slow-freezing IVP embryos, n = 74). Pregnancy diagnosis was performed on d 37 ± 3 of gestation by transrectal palpation. Pregnancy loss data and calving records were collected from the dairy farm management software. Treatment did not affect P/ET, calving/ET, or pregnancy loss either overall or within parity. When treatments inducing CL formation were combined (GnRH + hCG), heifers tended to have greater P/ET than controls (67.7 vs. 63.5%, respectively). Yet, calving/ET were similar. Response variables were also analyzed within embryo type and parity. For heifers receiving stage 6 (blastocyst) fresh IVP embryos, hCG had greater P/ET than controls (74.5 vs. 51.1%, respectively). In addition, GnRH tended to have greater P/ET than controls (67.8 vs. 51.2%, respectively). However, calving/ET in heifers receiving blastocyst fresh IVP embryos was similar among treatments. When only stage 7 (expanded blastocyst) fresh IVP embryos were considered, primiparous GnRH cows had greater P/ET (59.3 vs. 47.1%) and calving/ET (48.6 vs. 38.1%) than hCG. Moreover, hCG showed decreased calving/ET compared with controls in primiparous cows transferred with expanded blastocyst fresh IVP embryos. In summary, the effects of hCG or GnRH at ET on P/ET and calving/ET were inconsistent according to different embryo characteristics (e.g., embryo stage) and parity of recipients. The present work reports the development and application of a new electrochemical sensor for the determination of low concentration levels of p-toluenediamine (PTD) in biological fluids and surface water samples. The proposed sensor was developed using a 3D-printed magnetic device as platform for carbon screen printed electrode (CSPE) modified by magnetic nanoparticles functionalized with carboxylic groups and l-cysteine (MNP-CA-CYS). The results obtained from the morphological and electrochemical characterizations of the sensing platform enabled us to confirm the success of the sensor functionalization with l-cysteine and to have a better understanding of the electrochemical behavior and preconcentration of PTD on the electrode surface. PTD oxidation occurred at 0.24V on MNP-CA-CYS and the mechanism recorded an increase of 51.0% in anodic peak current. Under optimized conditions, the square wave voltammograms obtained for the electrode modified by 40.0 μL MNP-CA-CYS suspension at 1.0 mg mL -1 , with accumulation time of 3 min, presented an analytical curve with linear range of 8.00 × 10 -7 to 8.00 × 10 -5  mol L -1 , represented by the equation Iap = (0.383 ± 0.011)[PTD] - (8.112 ± 0.07) × 10 -8 (R 2  = 0.9994), and detection and quantification limits of 8.53 × 10 -8 and 2.56 × 10 -7  mol L -1 , respectively. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of using different doses of injectable progesterone (P4i) in a new ovulation synchronization protocol in place of progesterone (P4)-releasing intravaginal devices in Bos indicus cows. For this, three experiments were carried out. To determine the P4-release curve (Experiment 1), 55 Bos indicus cows were distributed into 5 experimental groups for the administration of different doses of P4i at D0 (P4i60, n = 11; P4i105, n = 11; P4i150, n = 11; P4i195, n = 11 and P4i240, n = 11) and submitted to the ovulation synchronization protocol (D0: P4i + EB; D8: PGF2α + EC + eCG). Daily blood samples were collected by jugular venipuncture from D0 to D12 for analysis of the serum P4 profile. To evaluate ovarian follicular dynamics and the timing of ovulation (Experiment 2), three studies were conducted with different doses of P4i at the beginning of the ovulation synchronization protocol (Study a: 150 mg and 105 mg P4i; Study b: 75 mg P4i; Study c: 60 mg P4i). At the end of the ovulation synchronization protocol, after ovulation inducing administration, ultrasound examinations were performed every 24 h until 96 h or until ovulation was detected (Studies a, b and c). To evaluate the pregnancy rate (Experiment 3), 132 Bos indicus cows were subjected to an ovulation synchronization protocol using either a 75 mg progesterone injection (Group P4i75) or an intravaginal P4 device (control group) on D0. Pregnancy was determined by ultrasound 30 days after the end of the ovulation synchronization protocol. All statistical analyses were performed by SAS®. In the P4-release curve, the peak occurred on D1 and on D3 all concentrations remained below 1 ng/mL until the end of the study (D12) in all groups. The ovulation rates were similar between the 75 mg dose group and the Control group (P = 0.24 - Experiment 2 - study b), result not observed with other doses of P4i (study a and c). The pregnancy rate (Experiment 3) was greater [P4i Group 27% and Control Group 72.7% (P = 0.0001)] in cows receiving the intravaginal P4 device. In a protocol for the resynchronization of ovulation starting 14 days (D14) after timed artificial insemination, the effects of short-action injectable progesterone (P4i) administration and the length of treatment with an intravaginal progesterone (P4) device on follicular dynamics, the conception rate (P/AI) and the percentage of false positives were evaluated in 1065 Nelore heifers previously timed-inseminated. On D14, P4 devices were inserted, and heifers allocated, based on a 2 × 2 factorial design, to receive (P4i) or not 50 mg of P4i (NoP4i), and to remove the P4 device after 6 (6Day) or 8 days (8Day). At the time of P4 device removal (D20 and D22), non-pregnancy diagnosis was performed using vascularization of the corpus luteum (VCL) evaluated. At this time, non-pregnant heifers received 150 μg of D-cloprostenol, 0.6 mg of estradiol cypionate and 300IU of eCG. TAI was performed 48 h after P4 device removal. For these heifers, ultrasound examinations were performed at P4 device removal and at TAI to evaluate follicular dynamics and at 30 days after TAI to evaluate the P/AI. Pregnant heifers based on VCL were evaluated using B-mode ultrasonography 10 days after Doppler ultrasound to evaluate the percentage of false positives. Statistical analyses were performed using the GLIMMIX procedure of SAS. There were no interaction effects between P4i and duration of treatment with a P4 device. The P/AI was diagnosed by Doppler, 1st TAI, 2nd TAI, total and percentage of false positives did not differ between heifers receiving or not P4i. Similarly, duration of treatment with a P4 device did not influence the P/AI by Doppler, 1st TAI, 2nd TAI and total. However, the percentage of false positives diagnoses was higher in 6Day heifers (P = 0.01). The diameter of largest follicle at P4 device removal was greater in the 8Day heifers (P = 0.001), and at TAI was higher in the P4i-treated heifers (P = 0.03). Additionally, the percentage of false positives diagnoses was lower in heifers that ovulated to the 1st TAI protocol (P = 0.001). In conclusion, for resynchronization 14 days after TAI, it is not necessary to inject P4i at the beginning of the protocol. In addition, P4 device removal after 6 instead of 8 days increases the percentage of false positives because of the earlier diagnosis (20 days after TAI), but does not interfere in P/AI of resynchronization protocol. Using a particle based model, we investigate the skyrmion dynamical behavior in a channel where the upper wall contains divots of one depth and the lower wall contains divots of a different depth. Under an applied driving force, skyrmions in the channels move with a finite skyrmion Hall angle that deflects them toward the upper wall for - x direction driving and the lower wall for + x direction driving. When the upper divots have zero height, the skyrmions are deflected against the flat upper wall for - x direction driving and the skyrmion velocity depends linearly on the drive. For + x direction driving, the skyrmions are pushed against the lower divots and become trapped, giving reduced velocities and a nonlinear velocity-force response. When there are shallow divots on the upper wall and deep divots on the lower wall, skyrmions get trapped for both driving directions; however, due to the divot depth difference, skyrmions move more easily under - x direction driving, and become strongly trapped for + x direction driving. The preferred - x direction motion produces what we call a Magnus diode effect since it vanishes in the limit of zero Magnus force, unlike the diode effects observed for asymmetric sawtooth potentials. We show that the transport curves can exhibit a series of jumps or dips, negative differential conductivity, and reentrant pinning due to collective trapping events. Morphological, structural and compositional alterations in shells of molluscs have been proposed as putative biomarkers of chemical contamination in coastal zones. Despite this, few studies were carried out using top predator gastropods which tend to be more susceptible to contamination exposure. Thus, the present study assessed disturbances on shells of Stramonita brasiliensis considering compression resistance and organic and mineralogical matrix composition, related to morphometric alterations. Results showed reductions in compression resistance and organic matrix content associated with higher contaminated sites. In addition, a predominance of calcite polymorphs was seen in shells obtained in polluted areas. Such outputs were consistent with local contamination levels which may have induced the observed alterations. Objective: To estimate the prevalence of sleep problems and sleeping pill use and associated factors in the Brazilian population., Methods: This study was conducted with data from the 2019 Brazilian National Health Survey. Our sample consisted of 94,114 participants and the outcomes analyzed were sleep problems and sleeping pill use. Sociodemographic, lifestyle, and health characteristics were explored in a descriptive and multivariate analysis with Poisson regression, robust variance, and 5% significance., Results: We found a 35.1% (95%CI: 34.5-35.7) and 8.5% (95%CI: 8.2-8.9) prevalence of sleep problems and sleeping pill use, respectively. Sleep problems were associated with women (PR = 1.41; 95%CI: 1.36-1.46), individuals who self-assess their health as regular/poor/very poor (PR = 1.56; 95%CI: 1.51-1.62), those with chronic diseases (PR = 1.70; 95%CI: 1.64-1.78), those who use alcohol excessively (PR = 1.14; 95%CI: 1.09-1.20), and smokers (PR = 1.16; 95%CI: 1.10-1.22). Sleeping pill use was associated with women (PR = 1.57; 95%CI: 1.43-1.73), divorcees (PR = 1.46; 95%CI: 1.30-1.65), urban denizens (PR = 1.32; 95%CI: 1.21-1.45) those who self-assess their health as regular/poor/very poor (PR = 1.79; 95%CI: 1.64-1.95), those with chronic diseases (PR = 4.07; 95%CI: 3.48-4.77), and smokers (PR = 1.49; IC95%: 1.33-1.67)., Conclusion: This study found that the prevalence of sleep problems and sleeping pill use in Brazilians indicates the need for attention and sleep care for this population, especially in women and those with lifestyle and health conditions associated with the analyzed outcomes.

The objective was to determine the effect of replacing GnRH with human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) on the last day of a 5-d CIDR Synch protocol (d 0) and inducing accessory corpus luteum (CL) formation with hCG 5 d later (d 5) on serum progesterone (P4) concentrations and luteal dynamics in dairy heifers. Holstein heifers (n = 207) were synchronized with a 5-d controlled internal drug release (CIDR) Synch protocol (d -8: used CIDR inserted; d -3: CIDR removed and PGF 2α ). Heifers were randomly assigned to 1 of 4 treatments on d 0: control (G; n = 55), H (n = 50), GH (n = 53), and HH (n = 49). Heifers in G were treated with 100 μg of GnRH on d 0, while H heifers received hCG (3,300 IU) on d 0. Heifers enrolled in GH were treated with GnRH on d 0 and hCG on d 5, while HH received hCG on d 0 and 5. Ovaries were scanned by ultrasound on d 0, 5, and 12, and blood was collected on d 0, 5, 7, and 12. Heifers that ovulated before or after the hCG or GnRH d 0 treatment and had P4 ≤ 0.50 ng/mL on d 0 were considered as synchronized. Overall protocol synchronization response was 93.8%, with no differences among treatments. Only synchronized heifers (n = 193) were included in the analyses of luteal dynamics after d 0. Serum P4 concentration and original CL luteal area on d 5 in heifers treated with hCG on d 0 (H + HH) were greater than in heifers treated with GnRH on d 0 (G + GH). Almost all heifers treated with hCG on d 5 had ≥2 CL on d 12 (98.6%). Ovulatory response for d 5 hCG treatment did not differ for GH versus HH (97.2 vs. 94.7%). Heifers in HH had the highest serum P4 on d 7, and G had the lowest serum P4 on d 7 and 12. In contrast, serum P4 on d 7 did not differ for H versus GH. On d 12, serum P4 and total luteal area were not different for GH versus HH. In summary, heifers that received hCG on d 0 had a larger total luteal area and greater serum P4 concentration on d 5 than heifers treated with GnRH on d 0. Moreover, hCG on d 5 promoted a greater proportion of heifers with ≥2 CL on d 12 and a larger luteal area of the original CL, which resulted in a larger total luteal area on d 12. This study aimed to evaluate the association between the years of work of food handlers in the foodservice and excess weight among Brazilian low-income food handlers. A total of 559 food handlers from all Brazilian regions were characterized using a questionnaire. Weight and height were measured to estimate the Body Mass Index and classify the individuals. The association between food handlers' years of work in the foodservice, anthropometric status, and other variables (gender, age group, educational level, participation in a government program and per capita income at home and energetic consumption) were performed using Pearson's chi-square test ( p < 0.05). Multinomial logistic regression analyses were performed ( p < 0.05) as well as sensitivity tests using the outcome continuously and transformed, excluding underweight individuals, in a multivariate linear regression model. Most of the sample was female (63.1%), aged between 21 and 40 years old (63.5%), and 53.3% had studied up to complete elementary school. Almost 41% of the food handlers had less than half the minimum wage per capita income. Of the evaluated individuals, 59.9% presented excess weight. There was an association with family per capita income (Odds Ratio - OR: 1.73; Confidence interval - CI95%: 1.09-2.75); handlers whose per capita income was ≤0.5 minimum wage had a 73% higher chance of obesity than those with higher income. Working in foodservive ≥3 years increased the chance of being overweight by 96% compared to those who work for <3 years (OR: 1.96; CI95%: 1.11-3.49). No significant association was found between the years of work of food handlers in the foodservice and obesity. Since work-related factors may contribute to the high prevalence of excess weight, including working in a food handling environment, the government and employers should consider workplace interventions. These would guide the food handlers in avoiding high rates of excess weight and their consequences on public health. Excess weight is an important driver of costs in the workplace associated with absenteeism, job change, and diseases. Wine is one of the most traditional consumed alcoholic beverages in the world. Millions of wine enthusiasts worldwide duly appreciate a wine of excellent quality in terms of physicochemical and sensorial properties. Different classes of wines have different volatile compositions and sensorial properties, which can be altered, depending on the vinification process and use of additives. Among the widely employed additives in wine production is sulfite (SO 2 ). The popularity of sulfite lies in its ability to preserve the flavor and freshness of wine; however, depending on the quantity, sulfite can pose serious health risks to consumers and affect the quality of the drink. The present study evaluated and compared the compositions of volatile compounds and sensorial properties of sparkling and traditional wines (with and without SO 2 ) produced from Greek grapes 'Grechetto', 'Greco bianco' and 'Greco di tufo'. The results obtained of the composition of volatile compounds in these wines pointed to differences between SO 2 -containing, SO 2 -free and sparkling wines, with different amounts of compounds such as alcohols, esters, fatty acids, phenols and differences in sensorial properties. Previously, by employing 3D organotypic tissue culture and patient-derived xenograft (PDX) model, oral myxoma response to a MAPK/MEK inhibitor was observed. Gross examination of the tumour fragments obtained after 55 days of PDX grafting revealed increased capsule vascularization. Microscopic analyses showed blood capillaries intermixed with myxoma cells, but the origin of these capillaries, from mice or humans, was not established. This study aimed to investigate whether the endothelial cells observed in the myxoma PDX model are derived from the mouse or from the primary human tumour. Immunohistochemistry was performed on five tumour fragments from the PDX of myxoma after 55 days of implantation in mice. Immunopositivity for antibodies against human (HLA-ABC) and mouse (H2 Db/H2-D1) major histocompatibility complex class I (MHCI) was assessed in the endothelial cells. The endothelial cells in the PDX fragments revealed a membrane staining for the human MHCI protein in the PDX tumour and adjacent connective tissue capsule, indicating that capillaries were derived from the human tumour fragment. Considering the probable human origin of the endothelial cells from capillary blood vessels in the myxoma PDX, we conclude that this PDX model is an interesting model to study myxoma angiogenesis., (© 2022 Company of the International Journal of Experimental Pathology (CIJEP).)

Statins are successful drugs used to treat hypercholesterolemia, a primary cause of atherosclerosis. In this work, we investigated how hypercholesterolemia and pravastatin treatment impact macrophage and mitochondria functions, the key cell involved in atherogenesis. By comparing bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDM) of wild-type (WT) and LDL receptor knockout (LDLr -/- ) mice, we observed hypercholesterolemia increased the number of contact sites at mitochondria-associated endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membranes (MAMs), enhanced mitochondrial hydrogen peroxide release, altered the gene expression of inflammatory markers, and increased oxidized LDL (ox-LDL) uptake and phagocytic activity. Three months of in vivo pravastatin treatment of LDLr -/- mice reversed the number of contact sites at the MAM, ox-LDL uptake, and phagocytosis in LDLr -/- BMDM. Additionally, pravastatin increased BMDM mitochondrial network branching. In peritoneal macrophages (PMs), hypercholesterolemia did not change MAM stability, but stimulated hydrogen peroxide production and modulated gene expression of pro- and anti-inflammatory markers. It also increased mitochondrial branching degree and had no effects on ox-LDL uptake and phagocytosis in PM. Pravastatin treatment increased superoxide anion production and changed inflammation-related gene expression in LDLr -/- PM. In addition, pravastatin increased markedly the expression of the mitochondrial dynamics-related genes Mfn2 and Fis1 in both macrophages. In summary, our results show that hypercholesterolemia and pravastatin treatment affect macrophage mitochondria network structure as well as their interaction with the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). These effects impact on macrophage conversion rates to foam cell and macrophage phagocytic capacity. Background: Central giant cell granulomas (CGCG) of the jaws are osteolytic lesions that may behave aggressively and respond poorly to surgery. Microscopically, in addition to giant cells, there is a mononuclear cell population composed of macrophage/monocytic cells and spindle-shaped cells of mesenchymal origin. Seventy two percent of these tumours harbour mutually exclusive TRPV4, KRAS and FGFR1 mutations. We aimed to assess the mutational status of mononuclear and giant cells and the osteogenic potential of stromal cells in vitro and in vivo., Methods and Results: We screened CGCG for signature mutations and used laser-capture microdissection to demonstrate that the mutations are restricted to the mononuclear cells. Additionally, we established CGCG primary cell culture and observed that the cells retained the mutations throughout passages. By flow cytometry, we observed predominance of CD14 - CD51 - CD61 - cells, consistent with the expected profile for stromal cells. Considering the mesenchymal origin of stromal cells, we assessed the osteogenic differentiation potential of CGCG cells in culture by cytochemistry (von Kossa and alizarin red staining), alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity assay and gene expression of osteogenic markers. CGCG cells presented self-capacity to increase ALP levels in a time-dependent manner and under osteogenic induction presented increasing number of calcium deposits, and overall higher expression of osteocalcin, RUNX2, ALPL and osteopontin than cells without osteogenic induction. A patient-derived xenograft model for CGCG was established, and osteoid material deposition was observed., Conclusion: Collectively, the results confirm that the signature mutations are restricted to stromal cells in CGCG, and the in vitro and in vivo results support that these cells have the capacity to differentiate into osteoblasts, in line with the bone formation often observed in the stroma of these lesions., (© 2022 John Wiley & Sons A/S. Introduction: Sleep deprivation and social jet lag are observed in college students from highly urbanized cities. However, does these consequences also present in college students from a low urbanization city?, Objective: To evaluate the prevalence and social, biological and behavioral factors associated with sleep deprivation and social jet lag in university students from a low urbanized city of Brazil., Methods: A total of 298 university students participated in the study through application of the Health and Sleep and the Munich Chronotype Questionnaires. Multiple linear regression with stepwise-forward method was adopted to assess the associations of the factors with the outcome variables., Results: Doing leisure activities (LA) (B = 23.24) and academic demand (AD) before bedtime (B = 19.51), both on the weekend, and doing household chores (HC) before bedtime (B = 17.61) in the week were associated with an increase in social jet lag, while stimulating drinks (SD) were associated with a decrease (B = -15.17). Shorter sleep duration in the week was related to chronotype (B = -0.56), male (B = -26.51), doing LA (B = -27.63), poor perception about sleeping place (PPSP) (B = -43.02) and daily commute (B = -68.97). The shorter sleep duration in the weekend was associated to male (B = -36.36), PPSP (B = -58.16), have recreational and religious activities (B = -31.11), doing LA (B = -25.10) and AD (B = -23.60). This work introduces a new socially assistive robot termed MARIA T21 (meaning "Mobile Autonomous Robot for Interaction with Autistics", with the addition of the acronym T21, meaning "Trisomy 21", which is used to designate individuals with Down syndrome). This new robot is used in psychomotor therapies for children with Down syndrome (contributing to improve their proprioception, postural balance, and gait) as well as in psychosocial and cognitive therapies for children with autism spectrum disorder. The robot uses, as a novelty, an embedded mini-video projector able to project Serious Games on the floor or tables to make already-established therapies funnier to these children, thus creating a motivating and facilitating effect for both children and therapists. The Serious Games were developed in Python through the library Pygame, considering theoretical bases of behavioral psychology for these children, which are integrated into the robot through the robot operating system (ROS). Encouraging results from the child-robot interaction are shown, according to outcomes obtained from the application of the Goal Attainment Scale. Regarding the Serious Games, they were considered suitable based on both the "Guidelines for Game Design of Serious Games for Children" and the "Evaluation of the Psychological Bases" used during the games' development. Thus, this pilot study seeks to demonstrate that the use of a robot as a therapeutic tool together with the concept of Serious Games is an innovative and promising tool to help health professionals in conducting therapies with children with autistic spectrum disorder and Down syndrome. Due to health issues imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the sample of children was limited to eight children (one child with typical development, one with Trisomy 21, both female, and six children with ASD, one girl and five boys), from 4 to 9 years of age. For the non-typically developing children, the inclusion criterion was the existence of a conclusive diagnosis and fulfillment of at least 1 year of therapy. The protocol was carried out in an infant psychotherapy room with three video cameras, supervised by a group of researchers and a therapist. The experiments were separated into four steps: The first stage was composed of a robot introduction followed by an approximation between robot and child to establish eye contact and assess proxemics and interaction between child/robot. In the second stage, the robot projected Serious Games on the floor, and emitted verbal commands, seeking to evaluate the child's susceptibility to perform the proposed tasks. In the third stage, the games were performed for a certain time, with the robot sending messages of positive reinforcement to encourage the child to accomplish the game. Finally, in the fourth stage, the robot finished the games and said goodbye to the child, using messages aiming to build a closer relationship with the child.

Knowledge and understanding of the functioning of watersheds is essential for constructing future scenarios that aim to minimize instability. However, new approaches including variables, methods, and techniques into traditional methodologies contribute to environmental planning and management of such territorial units. This study aims to propose a model based on a multicriterion spatial approach for the analysis of the geomorphometric environmental fragility of watersheds. This study was conducted in the Murundú-Paiol watershed, located in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. Morphometric, geological, pedological, hypsometric, slope, land use, and land cover data were evaluated and integrated using geotechnologies for processing and analytical hierarchy process (AHP) considering a weighted linear combination for an integrated spatial analysis of the watershed. The study area shows a greater predisposition to fragility in areas of flat and smooth reliefs, especially around the main river, where there is a greater presence of anthropic areas. The methodology proposed here, which uses a multicriterion spatial approach and AHP, combined with technical and scientific data, allows replicating the model to another watersheds. Modeling was validated in a cooperative way using an in-field, traditional method. The watershed evaluated showed that 49.13% and 26.83% of lands have medium and low fragility, respectively, while about 17% of lands have a high fragility and their management should be a priority. Modeling correlates strongly and positively with fragility class detailing, and field areas corroborate the model proposed here. This evidenced a robust analysis of factors that affect the geomorphometric environmental fragility of watersheds. Previous studies have demonstrated the presence of precursors and coupling agents in wastewater from hair dyeing processes. The complex reaction involved in the oxidation of these compounds can generate extremely hazardous sub-products, leading to an increase in the mutagenicity and toxicity of wastewater. Without proper treatment, this highly toxic wastewater may find its way into the drinking water treatment plant. The present work aimed to investigate the main products generated after the oxidation reaction involving p-toluenediamine (PTD) and p-aminophenol (PAP) - precursors that widely used in the composition of commercial permanent hair dyes, under experimental conditions close to the routine hair dyeing process (in the presence and absence of hydrogen peroxide in ammoniacal medium), using spectroscopic techniques. The study also investigated the mutagenicity and toxicity of the products formed in the hairdressing wash water and conducted detection analysis to determine the presence of the precursors and Bandrowski's Base Derivative (BBD) in samples of wastewater, surface and drinking water using HPLC-DAD and linear voltammetry techniques. Based on this investigation, we identified several PTD and PAP self-oxidation products and eleven sub-products derived from the reaction between PTD and PAP. Assays conducted using Salmonella typhimurium YG1041, with and without activation-induced rat liver metabolism (S9), indicated mutagenicity of the reaction products in concentrations above 10.0 μg μL -1 . This paper demonstrates that femtosecond laser-irradiated Fe 2 O 3 materials containing a mixture of α-Fe 2 O 3 and ε-Fe 2 O 3 phases showed significant improvement in their photoelectrochemical performance and magnetic and optical properties. The absence of Raman-active vibrational modes in the irradiated samples and the changes in charge carrier emission observed in the photocurrent density results indicate an increase in the density of defects and distortions in the crystalline lattice when compared to the nonirradiated ones. The magnetization measurements at room temperature for the nonirradiated samples revealed a weak ferromagnetic behavior, whereas the irradiated samples exhibited a strong one. The optical properties showed a reduction in the band gap energy and a higher conductivity for the irradiated materials, causing a higher current density. Due to the high performance observed, it can be applied in dye-sensitized solar cells and water splitting processes. Quantum mechanical calculations based on density functional theory are in accordance with the experimental results, contributing to the elucidation of the changes caused by femtosecond laser irradiation at the molecular level, evaluating structural, energetic, and vibrational frequency parameters.
