This paper provides the re-description of Epeus albus Prószynski, 1992, with the first description of its male. Additionally, Epeus chilapataensis (Biswas & Biswas, 1992) is synonymised with E. albus and a new taxonomic combination is proposed: Epeus khandalaensis (Tikader, 1977) comb. nov. (ex Phidippus). Clarification on the record of Epeus daiqini Patoleta, Gardzińska & Żabka, 2020 from India is provided. The current distribution of the genus in India is also mapped.

Four new species of the chrysilline genus Phintella – P. dentis sp. nov. (♂♀), P. handersoni sp. nov. (♂♀), P. luna sp. nov. (♀) and P. rajbharathi sp. nov. (♂) – are described from India. Additionally, the unknown female of Phintella platnicki Sudhin, Sen & Caleb, 2023 is described and new distributional data are provided for this species. Notes on the type locality and distribution of P. accentifera (Simon, 1901) are provided along with clarification on the identity of other non-type materials. Detailed morphological descriptions, illustrations and a distributional map are also given.

Two new species – Stenaelurillus megamalai sp. nov. (♂♀) from the colorful group and Stenaelurillus neyyar sp. nov. (♂♀) from the black and white group – are described from the southern Western Ghats of India. Detailed morphological descriptions, illustrations, as well as the distribution maps are provided. New distributional data for three other species, Stenaelurillus albus Sebastian, Sankaran, Malamel & Joseph, 2015, S. arambagensis (Biswas & Biswas, 1992) and S. wandae Logunov, 2020 are also provided.

A new species of lynx spider genus Hamataliwa Keyserling is described from the Western Ghats, one of the world’s biodiversity hotspots. Female of the new species is illustrated, and distribution has been mapped.

The Cambrian and Ordovician clastic reservoirs of the Oued Mya Basin exhibit significant vertical thickness and extensive lateral continuity, despite being tight. These reservoir intervals have not been properly understood yet in terms of in-situ stress distribution and pore pressure behaviour. The main objectives were to infer the reservoir stress state and draw implications for the tight oil reservoir development based on the geomechanical analyses. We interpreted breakouts from a cumulative 1485 m of acoustic image logs and interpreted a NW-SE SHMax orientation (N125°E-N147°E) in the Oued Mya Basin. The inferred breakouts were of B-D quality as per the World Stress Map ranking criteria. Both the reservoirs have a pore pressure gradient of 13.58-13.77 MPa/km, while the minifrac data infers a reservoir Shmin gradient of 17.3-19.2 MPa/km. Based on the breakout widths, we estimated the SHMax gradient as 23.8-26.5 MPa/km. Following the univariate regression analyses to identify various influencing parameters on horizontal stress magnitudes, we proposed multiple linear regression (MLR) models to predict the Shmin and SHMax based on pore pressure, Sv, Poisson's ratio, and Young's modulus. Results indicate that Sv influences the horizontal stress estimates significantly more as compared to the other influencing variables. The predicted Shmin and SHMax values are in good agreement (goodness of fit as R2 = 0.976 and 0.994) with the measured data. The newly proposed MLR equations can be utilized in absence of subsurface validation data. A strike-slip faulting reservoir stress state is concluded from stress polygon analysis. An optimum drilling strategy is discussed based on the observed wellbore failures. We recommended the drilling fluid pressure to be increased by 8 MPa and 14 MPa to avoid breakouts against the Ordovician and Cambrian reservoirs respectively, however, that may incur tensile fractures which do not have a considerable effect on wellbore stability while drilling. Based on this work, horizontal well trajectory along NE-SW (i.e., parallel to Shmin), together with oriented perforations aligned parallel to inferred SHMax direction is recommended. The potential fracture reactivation risks during reservoir pressurization are evaluated and discussed.

This study evaluates the unconventional reservoir geomechanical characteristics of the Lower Turonian Abu Roash-F (AR-F) carbonates from the Abu Gharadig field, onshore Egypt, which has not been attempted before. The interval dominantly consists of planktic foraminifera and micrite matrix. The AR-F marine carbonate is organic-rich (0.59–3.57 wt% total organic carbon), thermally mature (435–441°C Tmax) and falls within the oil generation window. The studied interval is very tight with up to 2.6% porosity and 0.0016–0.0033 mD permeability with the wireline log-based brittleness index ranging between 0.39–0.72 which indicates a less brittle to brittle nature. AR-F exhibits a hydrostatic pore pressure gradient with minimum horizontal stress (Shmin) varying between 0.66–0.76 PSI/ft. Safe wellbore trajectory analysis was performed for deviated and horizontal wells to infer the mud pressure gradients required to avoid wellbore instabilities. Based on the inferred in-stress magnitudes and considering an NNE regional maximum horizontal stress orientation, none of the fractures are found to be critically stressed at present day. To produce from the AR-F, hydraulic fracturing is necessary, and we infer a minimum pore pressure increment threshold of 1390 PSI by fluid injection to reactivate the vertical fractures parallel to regional minimum horizontal stress azimuth.

The study of in situ stress from image logs is a key factor for understanding regional stresses and the exploitation of hydrocarbon resources. This work presents a comprehensive geomechanical analysis of two eastern Algerian hydrocarbon fields to infer the magnitudes of principal stress components and stress field orientation. Acoustic image logs and borehole measurements were used in this research to aid our understanding of regional stress and field development. The studied In-Adaoui and Bourarhat fields encompass a combined thickness of 3050 m of Paleozoic and Mesozoic stratigraphy, with the primary reservoir facies in the Ordovician interval. The Ordovician sandstone reservoir interval indicates an average Poisson’s ratio (v) of 0.3, 100–150 MPa UCS, and 27–52 GPa Young’s modulus (E). Direct formation pressure measurements indicate that the sandstone reservoir is in a hydrostatic pore pressure regime. Density-derived vertical stress had a 1.1 PSI/feet gradient. Minimum horizontal stress modeled from both Poisson’s ratio and an effective stress ratio-based approach yielded an average 0.82 PSI/feet gradient, as validated with the leak-off test data. Drilling-induced tensile fractures (DITF) and compressive failures, i.e., breakouts (BO), were identified from acoustic image logs. On the basis of the DITF criterion, the maximum horizontal stress gradient was found to be 1.57–1.71 PSI/feet, while the BO width-derived gradient was 1.27–1.37 PSI/feet. Relative stress magnitudes indicate a strike-slip stress regime. A mean SHMax orientation of N130°E (NW-SE) was interpreted from the wellbore failures, classified as B-quality stress indicators following the World Stress Map (WSM) ranking scheme. The inferred stress magnitude and orientation were in agreement with the regional trend of the western Mediterranean region and provide a basis for field development and hydraulic fracturing in the low-permeable reservoir. On the basis of the geomechanical assessments, drilling and reservoir development strategies are discussed, and optimization opportunities are identified.

Introduction: Eagle Syndrome (ES) also known as styloid–carotid artery syndrome is a caused by elongation of the styloid process or calcification of the stylohyoid ligament. Usually, normal stylohyoid process is 2.5 cm in length. However, it is classified as an elongated styloid process if its length is more than 2.5 cm. Carotid Artery dissection which is a significant cause of ischemic stroke in all age groups is a known rare complication of ES. Goal of our study is to assess for correlation between degree of styloid process lengthening and grades of Carotid and Vertebral Dissections in adult population. Methods: Retrospective database review of adult patients with known cervical dissections (traumatic and non‐traumatic) were analyzed from Level I Comprehensive Stroke Center. Patients in pediatric age group (less than age 18 years) were excluded. Deidentified patient information including patient’s age, demographics, past medical history, mechanism of injury (if applicable) prior to initial clinical presentation, initial clinical presentation, methodology for diagnosis of cervical dissection (Internal Carotid vs External Carotid vs Vertebral Arteries) along with measurements of stylohyoid ligaments and degrees of dissections bilaterally were retrieved and analyzed. Data analysis was performed by using IBM SPSS Statistics Software 28.0. Results: Total number of patients were 111 (N). Mean age of patients was 52.97 (±16 years). Demographic distribution: African Americans (47/111), Caucasians (62/111) and Others (2/111). Gender distribution: Males (55/111) and Females (56/111). Mechanisms of injury based on available data were as follows: Mechanical Fall (21); MVC (21) and other mechanisms (12). 43/111 patients did have a headache as compared to 68/111 who did not during initial clinical presentation. Imaging confirmation for arterial dissection was performed via MRA (6/111); CTA (98/111) and DSA (7/111). Average styloid length for patients with Eagle syndrome was 3.1 cm vs non‐Eagle group which was 2.38 cm. In Non‐Eagle Syndrome group (Styloid length 2.5 cm), average grade of arterial dissections were as follows: Left Vertebral Artery‐2.6; Left Internal Carotid Artery‐3.38; Right Internal Carotid Artery dissection‐2.3 and Right vertebral artery dissection‐1. In this study, we assessed the unconventional reservoir characteristics of the Lower Turonian carbonates from the southeastern Constantine Basin. We integrated petrography, petrophysical, and rock-mechanical assessments to infer formation properties and unconventional reservoir development strategies. The studied fossiliferous argillaceous limestones are rich in planktonic foraminifera, deposited in a calm and low energy depositional condition, i.e., deep marine basinal environment. Routine core analysis exhibits very poor porosity (mostly < 5%) and permeability ( 0.48) and fracability (FI > 0.5) indices compared to the lower interval. Borehole breakouts indicate ~N-S SHmax orientation and a normal to strike-slip transitional stress state has been constrained based on a geomechanical assessment. We analyzed safe wellbore trajectory and minimum mud weight requirements to ensure stability in the deviated and horizontal wells required for field development. At the present stress state, none of the fracture orientations are critically stressed. We inferred the fracture reactivation potential during hydraulic stimulation required to bring the tight Turonian limestones into production. Additional pore pressure build-up required to reactivate optimally oriented natural fractures has also been inferred to ensure success of hydraulic fracturing.

Abstract Background Patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) who use emergency medical services (EMS) receive quicker reperfusion treatment which, in turn, mitigates post-stroke disability. However, nationally only 59% use EMS. We examined why AIS patients use or do not use EMS. Methods During 2016–2018, a convenience sample of AIS patients admitted to a primary stroke center in South Carolina were surveyed during hospitalization if they were medically fit, available for survey when contacted, and consented to participate. The survey was programed into EpiInfo with skip patterns to minimize survey burden and self-administered on a touchscreen computer. Survey questions covered symptom characteristics, knowledge of stroke and EMS importance, subjective reactions, role of bystanders and financial factors. Descriptive and multiple regression analyses were performed. Results Of 108 inpatients surveyed (out of 1179 AIS admissions), 49% were male, 44% African American, mean age 63.5 years, 59% mild strokes, 75 (69%) arrived by EMS, 33% were unaware of any stroke symptom prior to stroke, and 75% were unaware of the importance of EMS use for good outcome. Significant factors that influenced EMS use decisions (identified by regression analysis adjusting for stroke severity) were: prior familiarity with stroke (self or family/friend with stroke) adjusted odds ratio, 5.0 (95% confidence interval, 1.6, 15.1), perceiving symptoms as relevant for self and indicating possible stroke, 26.3 (7.6, 91.1), and bystander discouragement to call 911, 0.1 (0.01,0.7). Further, all 27 patients who knew the importance of EMS had used EMS. All patients whose physician office advised actions other than calling EMS at symptom onset, did not use EMS. Conclusion Systematic stroke education of patients with stroke-relevant comorbidities and life-style risk factors, and public health educational programs may increase EMS use and mitigate post-stroke disability.

In this forthcoming multicenter, prospective, randomized, double-blind placebo-controlled trial, we will investigate the augmentative effects of a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, escitalopram, on language therapy in individuals with post-stroke aphasia. We hypothesize that, when combined with language therapy, daily escitalopram will result in greater improvement than placebo in an untrained picture naming task (Philadelphia Naming Test short form) administered one week after the end of language therapy. We also will examine whether escitalopram's effect on language is independent of its effect on depression, varies with lesion location, or is associated with increased functional connectivity within the left hemisphere. Finally, we will examine whether individuals with BDNF met alleles show reduced response to treatment and reduced changes in connectivity. We expect to enroll 88 participants over four years. Participants are given escitalopram or placebo within one week of their stroke for 90 days and receive fifteen 45-minute computer-delivered sessions of language treatment beginning 60 days from the start of drug therapy. Patients then complete a comprehensive assessment of language at one, five, and twenty weeks after the last language therapy session. ELISA is the first randomized, controlled trial evaluating the effect of a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor on the improvement of language in people with aphasia undergoing language treatment during the acute to subacute post-stroke period. Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) acts via FSH-Receptor (FSH-R) by employing cAMP as the dominant secondary messenger in testicular Sertoli cells (Sc) to support spermatogenesis. Binding of FSH to FSH-R, results the recruitment of the intracellular GTP binding proteins, either stimulatory Gαs or inhibitory Gαi that in turn regulate cAMP production in Sc. The cytosolic concentration of cAMP being generated by FSH-R thereafter critically determines the downstream fate of the FSH signalling. The pleiotropic action of FSH due to differential cAMP output during functional maturation of Sc has been well studied. However, the developmental and cellular regulation of the Gα proteins associated with FSH-R is poorly understood in Sc. BackgroundInfertility has become a global phenomenon and constantly declining sperm count in males in modern world pose a major threat to procreation of humans. Male fertility is critically dependent on proper functioning of testicular Sertoli cells. Defective Sertoli cell proliferation and/or impaired functional maturation may be one of the underlying causes of idiopathic male infertility. Using high-throughput "omics" approach, we found binding sites for homeobox transcription factor MEIS1 on the promoters of several genes up-regulated in pubertal (mature) Sertoli cells, indicating that MEIS1 may be crucial for Sertoli cell-mediated regulation of spermatogenesis at and after puberty.ObjectiveTo decipher the role of transcription factor MEIS1 in Sertoli cell maturation and spermatogenesis.Materials and methodsSc-specific Meis1 knockdown (KD) transgenic mice were generated using pronuclear microinjection. Morphometric and histological analysis of the testes from transgenic mice was performed to identify defects in spermatogenesis. Epididymal sperm count and litter size were analyzed to determine the effect of Meis1 knockdown on fertility.ResultsSertoli cell (Sc)-specific Meis1 KD led to massive germ cell loss due to apoptosis and impaired spermatogenesis. The mice were found to be infertile or sub-fertile (with reduced litter size), depending on the extent of Meis1 inhibition.DiscussionThe results of this study demonstrated for the first time, a role of Meis1 in Sc maturation and normal spermatogenic progression. Inhibition of Meis1 in Sc was associated with deregulated spermatogenesis and a consequent decline in fertility of the transgenic mice.ConclusionsOur results provided substantial evidence that suboptimal Meis1 expression in Sc may be one of the underlying causes of idiopathic infertility.
