We report the reconstruction of the mass component spectra of cosmic rays (protons, helium, carbon, silicon and iron) and their mean mass composition, at energies from 1.4 to 100 PeV. The results are derived from the archival data of the extensive air shower experiment KASCADE. We use a novel machine learning technique developed specifically for this reconstruction, and post-LHC hadronic interaction models: QGSJet-II.04, EPOS-LHC and Sibyll 2.3c. We have found an excess of the proton component and a deficit of intermediate and heavy nuclei components compared to the original KASCADE results. The spectra of protons and helium show a knee-like behavior at ~ 4.4 PeV and ~ 11 PeV, with significances 5.2${\sigma}$ and 3.9${\sigma}$, respectively. The spectrum of the iron component has a hint (2.4${\sigma}$) of a hardening at ~ 4.5 PeV, which can be interpreted as a counterpart of a hardening in the proton spectrum at 166 TeV, recently reported by the GRAPES-3 experiment. The systematic uncertainties of our analysis were found to be smaller than those of the original KASCADE, as well as those of IceTop and TALE experiments, over the most part of the energy range studied. We also estimated separately the uncertainty related to the difference between the three mentioned hadronic interaction models. We also compute a mean logarithm mass of cosmic ray flux as a function of energy. We study the problem of reconstruction of high-energy cosmic rays mass composition from the experimental data of extensive air showers. We develop several machine learning methods for the reconstruction of energy spectra of separate primary nuclei at energies 1-100 PeV, using the public data and Monte-Carlo simulations of the KASCADE experiment from the KCDC platform. We estimate the uncertainties of our methods, including the unfolding procedure, and show that the overall accuracy exceeds that of the method used in the original studies of the KASCADE experiment., Comment: 33 pages

Pushing the reach of NNLO QCD predictions to $2\to3$ production processes is one of the pillars of precision phenomenology program at the LHC. In this talk we will overview recent results and developments in the calculation of two-loop five-point amplitudes contributing towards achieving this goal. We will discuss challenges encountered in advancing the state-of-the-art beyond the class of massless five-point scattering. We will then present a basis set of transcendental functions sufficient to express any planar two-loop five-particle scattering amplitude with one external massive leg. This basis greatly facilitates derivation of compact analytic form of scattering amplitudes, and opens a possibility of their fast and reliable numerical evaluation. The collision of two expanding plasma clouds is investigated, emphasizing instabilities and electron energization in the plasma mixing layer. This work is directly relevant to laboratory experiments with explosively-created laser or z-pinch plasmas but may also elucidate naturally occurring plasma collisions in astrophysical or space physics contexts. In the previous publications [1,2] we have studied, analytically and numerically, the flow emerging from interpenetrating coronas launched by two parallel wires vaporized in a vacuum chamber. The main foci of the studies have been on the general flow pattern and lower-hybrid and thin-shell instabilities that under certain conditions develop in the collision layer. The present paper centers around the initial phase of the interpenetration of the two plasmas. A two-stream ion-ion instability, efficient electron heating, and stochastic acceleration dominate plasma mixing at this phase. Both the adiabatic (reversible) electron heating and stochastic (irreversible) acceleration and heating mechanisms, powered by unstably driven electric fields, are considered. The irreversibility results from a combination of electron runaway acceleration in the wave electric fields and pitch-angle scattering on ions and neutrals., Comment: 13 pages, 4 figures

We present the leading-color two-loop QCD corrections for the scattering of four partons and a $W$ boson, including its leptonic decay. The amplitudes are assembled from the planar two-loop helicity amplitudes for four partons and a vector boson decaying to a lepton pair, which are also used to determine the planar two-loop amplitudes for four partons and a $Z/\gamma^*$ boson with a leptonic decay. The analytic expressions are obtained by setting up a dedicated Ansatz and constraining the free parameters from numerical samples obtained within the framework of numerical unitarity. The large linear systems that must be solved to determine the analytic expressions are constructed to be in Vandermonde form. Such systems can be very efficiently solved, bypassing the bottleneck of Gaussian elimination. Radio detection of air showers produced by ultra-high energy cosmic rays is a cost-effective technique for the next generation of sparse arrays. The performance of this technique strongly depends on the environmental background, which has different constituents, namely anthropogenic radio frequency interference, synchrotron galactic radiation and others. These components have recognizable features, which can help for background suppression. A powerful method for handling this is the application of convolution neural networks with a specific architecture called autoencoder. By suppressing unwanted signatures, the autoencoder keeps the signal-like ones. We have successfully developed and trained an autoencoder, which is now applied to the data from Tunka-Rex. We show the procedures of the training and optimization of the network including benchmarks of different architectures. Using the autoencoder, we improved the standard analysis of Tunka-Rex in order to lower the threshold of the detection. Tunka-Rex (Tunka Radio Extension) was a detector for ultra-high energy cosmic rays measuring radio emission for air showers in the frequency band of 30-80 MHz, operating in 2010s. It provided an experimental proof that sparse radio arrays can be a cost-effective technique to measure the depth of shower maximum with resolutions competitive to optical detectors. After the decommissioning of Tunka-Rex, as last phase of its lifecycle and following the FAIR (Findability - Accessibility - Interoperability - Reuse) principles, we publish the data and software under free licenses in the frame of the TRVO (Tunka-Rex Virtual Observatory), which is hosted at KIT under the partnership with the KCDC and GRADLCI projects. Cosmic ray data collected by the KASCADE air shower experiment are competitive in terms of quality and statistics with those of modern observatories. We present a novel mass composition analysis based on archival data acquired from 1998 to 2013 provided by the KASCADE Cosmic ray Data Center (KCDC). The analysis is based on modern machine learning techniques trained on simulation data provided by KCDC. We present the complete set of leading-color two-loop contributions required to obtain next-to-next-to-leading-order (NNLO) QCD corrections to three-jet production at hadron colliders. We obtain analytic expressions for a generating set of finite remainders, valid in the physical region for three-jet production. The analytic continuation of the known Euclidean-region results is determined from a small set of numerical evaluations of the amplitudes. The Spin Physics Detector, a universal facility for studying the nucleon spin structure and other spin-related phenomena with polarized proton and deuteron beams, is proposed to be placed in one of the two interaction points of the NICA collider that is under construction at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna, Russia). At the heart of the project there is huge experience with polarized beams at JINR. The main objective of the proposed experiment is the comprehensive study of the unpolarized and polarized gluon content of the nucleon. Spin measurements at the Spin Physics Detector at the NICA collider have bright perspectives to make a unique contribution and challenge our understanding of the spin structure of the nucleon. In this document the Conceptual Design of the Spin Physics Detector is presented.

We compute the two-loop helicity amplitudes for the production of three photons at hadron colliders in QCD at leading-color. Using the two-loop numerical unitarity method coupled with analytic reconstruction techniques, we obtain the decomposition of the two-loop amplitudes in terms of master integrals in analytic form. These expressions are valid to all orders in the dimensional regulator. We use them to compute the two-loop finite remainders, which are given in a form that can be efficiently evaluated across the whole physical phase space. We further package these results in a public code which assembles the helicity-summed squared two-loop remainders, whose numerical stability across phase-space is demonstrated. We present the first public version of Caravel, a C++17 framework for the computation of multi-loop scattering amplitudes in quantum field theory, based on the numerical unitarity method. Caravel is composed of modules for the $D$-dimensional decomposition of integrands of scattering amplitudes into master and surface terms, the computation of tree-level amplitudes in floating point or finite-field arithmetic, the numerical computation of one- and two-loop amplitudes in QCD and Einstein gravity, and functional reconstruction tools. We provide programs that showcase Caravel's main functionalities and allow to compute selected one- and two-loop amplitudes.

We present the analytic form of the two-loop four-graviton scattering amplitudes in Einstein gravity. To remove ultraviolet divergences we include counterterms quadratic and cubic in the Riemann curvature tensor. The two-loop numerical unitarity approach is used to deal with the challenging momentum dependence of the interactions. We exploit the algebraic properties of the integrand of the amplitude in order to map it to a minimal basis of Feynman integrals. Analytic expressions are obtained from numerical evaluations of the amplitude. We present the analytic form of all leading-color two-loop five-parton helicity amplitudes in QCD. The results are analytically reconstructed from exact numerical evaluations over finite fields. Combining a judicious choice of variables with a new approach to the treatment of particle states in $D$ dimensions for the numerical evaluation of amplitudes, we obtain the analytic expressions with a modest computational effort. Their systematic simplification using multivariate partial-fraction decomposition leads to a particularly compact form. We compute a complete set of independent leading-color two-loop five-parton amplitudes in QCD. These constitute a fundamental ingredient for the next-to-next-to-leading order QCD corrections to three-jet production at hadron colliders. We show how to consistently consider helicity amplitudes with external fermions in dimensional regularization, allowing the application of a numerical variant of the unitarity approach. Amplitudes are computed by exploiting a decomposition of the integrand into master and surface terms that is independent of the parton type. Master integral coefficients are numerically computed in either finite-field or floating-point arithmetic and combined with known analytic master integrals. We recompute two-loop leading-color four-parton amplitudes as a check of our implementation. We study QCD helicity amplitudes with an arbitrary number of (massive) quarks, keeping unobserved (loop) particles in fixed integer $D_s$ dimensions. We find a suitable embedding of external four-dimensional fermion states into higher dimensional spaces. This allows to identify the $D_s$ dependence of amplitudes with external quarks at one and two loops, permitting an analytic continuation in $D_s$. Explicitly we focus on 't Hooft-Veltman and four-dimensional helicity schemes for which we provide a compact prescription for the computation of one- and two-loop amplitudes amenable for numerical implementation., Comment: Some minor changes regarding the presentation of the relation to the FDF approach

In this article we present the next-to-leading order QCD predictions for $Wb\bar{b}+n$-jet ($n=0,1,2,3$) production at the Large Hadron Collider with $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV. We work in the four-flavor number scheme with a non-vanishing bottom-quark mass and include all subprocesses at leading electroweak order as well as all heavy-fermion-loop effects. We show the impact of QCD corrections for total as well as differential cross sections and make an assessment of theoretical uncertainties of $Wb\bar{b}$ production viewed as an irreducible background to $H(\rightarrow b{\bar b})W$ studies. For the calculations we have employed an upgraded version of the BlackHat library which can handle massive fermions in combination with SHERPA. Our results can be explored through publicly available $n$-tuple sets.

We have studied the behavior of a VLF, ELF and combined ELF/VLF antenna immersed in a cold, magnetized plasma using a fully kinetic, three dimensional Particle-in-Cell simulation code called Large Scale Plasma (LSP). All the antennas are modeled as magnetic dipoles ($\rho_{ant}=0$) and are assigned a time varying current density within a finite sized current loop. The VLF antenna is driven at 10 Amps with a frequency ($\omega_{VLF}$) greater than the lower hybrid frequency ($\omega_{LH}$), while the ELF antenna is driven at 3 Amps with a frequency ($\omega_{ELF}$) less than $\omega_{LH}$. The combined ELF/VLF antenna (which we call a parametric antenna) includes both antennas driven simultaneously in the same simulation domain. We show that the parametric antenna non-linearly excites electromagnetic (EM) Whistler waves to a greater extent than the VLF antenna alone. We also show that the parametric excitation of EM Whistler waves leads to greater emitted EM power (measured in Watts) compared with a VLF antenna alone., Comment: 13 pages, 5 figures, to be submitted to PRL

Recently a new class of time-dependent Bell inequalities in Wigner form was introduced. The structure of the inequalities allows experimental studies of quantum and open quantum systems in external fields. In this paper we study the properties of the time dependent Wigner inequalities using the time evolution of neutral pseudoscalar mesons. It is shown that it is always possible to find a range of parameters to test for violation in an experimentally accessible area.
