This study evaluated social services provided by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to Syrian women in Turkey via a case study. This qualitative study discussed the social work intervention process applied to a Syrian refugee woman who received support from NGOs in Turkey, and in-depth interviews were conducted with her and 7 NGO service providers who provided her with social services. To ensure the validity and reliability of the study, the results obtained from the Syrian refugee woman were compared with the results obtained from service providers, the interviews, and the documents (triangulation). Finally, the case manager reviewed the study results. The thematic analysis of the data obtained from the in-depth interviews and the documents prepared with respect to the case study was carried out. The social work intervention process was used as an analysis framework with a deductive approach. The data were re-read to find undiscovered patterns (inductive analysis). First, new themes were determined with open coding, and then the connections between these themes were sought with axial coding. MAXQDA 2020 was used in the analysis. The study results show the importance of gender-sensitive, rightsbased NGOs in empowering refugee women exposed to gender-based violence. It was observed that NGOs attempted to carry out a social work intervention process empowering Syrian women, but they could not achieve the change targeted by the social work perspective in their lives due to the problems at the macro level. The results indicate that the welfare state should fulfill its responsibilities, and regional developmental approaches should be implemented. Moreover, it was concluded that NGOs should abandon the projection understanding and carry out political advocacy activities more effectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Covid-19 pandemic first broke out in December 2019 in China and since then it has caused global crises all over the world. Therefore, most countries of the world have been struggling to meet current pandemic-based problems in many areas first in health, economy, education and to stop any other potential crisis with more effects. Both central and municipalities have fought against corona virus with their means and sources because quick and efficient measures taken against the rapid growth of the global crisis have made the countries deal with the period more effectively. In many countries, municipalities along with central governments have worked to offer various social work practices. This article investigates the formal support needs of mothers whose child has been sexually abused. Previous research has focused mostly on the provision of support for abused children to the relative neglect of mothers' support needs. Here, formal support refers to resources and services from organisations, professionals and authorities, with a specific focus on social welfare services. This article is based on a thematic analysis of semi-structured, in-depth interviews with 15 non-abusing mothers in North Cyprus. Analysis of the mothers' experiences revealed needs of support in four important domains: financial support; child day-care services and social facilities for children and adults; therapeutic services; and improved public knowledge about and trust in social services. Mothers often lacked knowledge about social services and their most common encounter with the social welfare system concerned financial assistance. The results showed that the social welfare system in North Cyprus is highly bureaucratic, children's long-term needs are usually unmet, and mothers' needs are often ignored by professionals. In sum, developing the quality of social welfare services is vital for sexually abused children and their non-abusing family members, especially mothers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Amaç: Bu araştırmanın amacı sosyal hizmetlerde çeşitli görevlerde bulunan çalışanların ikincil travmatik stres düzeylerini ve adil dünya inançlarını incelemektir.Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışma ilişkisel tarama modelinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Adana Aile, Çalışma ve Sosyal Hizmetler İl Müdürlüğüne bağlı kuruluşlardaki sosyal servis, eğitim birimi, sağlık birimi ve idari birim personellerinden toplam 150 çalışan araştırmaya katılmıştır. Tüm katılımcılara kişisel bilgi formu, İkincil Travmatik Stres Ölçeği (İTSÖ) ve Adil Dünya İnancı Ölçeği (ADİÖ) uygulanmıştır.Bulgular: İkincil travmatik stres düzeyi düşük ve orta düzey olan katılımcıların genel adil dünya inançlarının ikincil travmatik stres düzeyi yüksek olan katılımcılardan anlamlı düzeyde daha yüksek olduğu saptanmıştır). Benzer şekilde ikincil travmatik stres düzeyi düşük olan katılımcıların bireysel adil dünya inancı, ikincil travmatik stres düzeyi yüksek katılımcılara göre anlamlı düzeyde daha yüksektir. Sonuç: Sosyal hizmetlerde çalışanların ikincil travmatik stres düzeyi düştükçe bireysel ve genel adil dünya inancı artmaktadır. Uzun süre başkalarının travmatik yaşantılarına tanık olmak, hizmet verenlerde rahatsız edici ikincil travmatik stres gibi ruhsal sorunların ortaya çıkmasına ve işlevsellik kayıplarına neden olabilir.

The anti-government protests that began in Syria in 2011 as part of the Arab Spring resulted in a civil war which led to over 3.6 million Syrian refugees residing in Turkey. Syrian refugees have become an important issue, both in Turkey and around the world. The main purpose of this study is to analyse the dynamics of the social exclusion of Syrian refugees in Turkey, and the tactics of resistance to this exclusion developed by the refugees. In this context, Bourdieu’s field theory and Michel de Certeau’s concepts of “strategy” and “tactics” are utilised as theoretical frameworks in the exploration of the everyday life of Syrians in the Altındağ district in Ankara, Turkey. The study adapts a qualitative research methodology, utilising face-to-face interviews with a total of thirteen Syrians living in Altındağ district in Ankara, for the expression of subjective perceptions of Syrians in everyday practices of social exclusion. The data obtained has revealed that Syrian refugees face economic, spatial, and cultural exclusion, while also experiencing hardship in accessing social services, and that these problems are closely related to one another. Morever, it was found that the refugees developed resistance practices or tactics to combat the dynamics of social exclusion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The aim of this research is to investigate the secondary traumatic stress levels and Belief in a Just World of the employees in various positions in social services. Materials and Methods: The study was performed in relational scanning model. A total of 150 employees from the social service, education unit, health unit and administrative staff in the institutions affiliated with Adana Family, Labor and Social Services Provincial Directorate participated in the research. Personal Information Form, Secondary Traumatic Stress Scale and Belief in a Just World Scale were applied to all participants. Results: General Belief in a Just World of the participants with low and medium level of secondary traumatic stress level were significantly higher than the participants with high secondary traumatic stress level. Similarly, the individual Belief in a Just World of the participants with low secondary traumatic stress level is significantly higher than the participants with high secondary traumatic stress level. Conclusion: As the secondary traumatic stress level of employees working in social services decreases, individual and general Belief in a Just World increases. Witnessing the traumatic experiences of others for a long time may cause mental problems such as disturbing secondary traumatic stress in the service providers and loss of functionality. Fatih began to quickly restructure Istanbul with the conquest. Istanbul is divided into administrative units in the form of sub-districts and neighborhoods below them. Almost all of these districts and neighborhoods are shaped around foundation's established. This indication shows us that Fatih planned the reconstruction of Istanbul through foundations. Fatih Social Complex and Hagia Sophia Foundation were established by Fatih, and Fatih became the founder of the Fatih, Hagia Sophia and Vefa sub-districts, and the charities of the foundation constituted the center of these sub-districts. He also became the founder of the Eyup Sultan district with the Eyub Sultan Foundation. He encouraged his lords and generals to establish their foundations, and allow each of them to determine the location. In those foundations were planned to see all kinds of social services of townships and neighborhoods. As a result of these activities and the foundation institutions, Istanbul has become one of the most important cities in Islamic civilization in terms of science, knowledge, culture, art, belief, health, social solidarity and urbanism. In this study it is based on the Fatih Social Complex and Hagia Sophia Foundation which established by Fatih. Organization of the foundation, and charitable institutions which established by the foundation, and their workers, the wages of workers, services of the institutions, income of the foundation, and management of the foundation are examined. Görme engellilere, sakatlara ve fakirlere maaş bağlatıp erzak tayin etmiştir. Kötürüm ve görme engellilerin yanına hizmetçiler vererek onları devlet güvencesi altına almıştır. Cüzzâmlıların tedavisi için hastane açmış, onları toplumda dışlanmışlıktan kurtarmıştır. Velid, eğitim-öğretim kurumlarını desteklemiştir. Temel eğitimin yaygınlaşması için küttâbın açılmasını desteklemiş, mescid ve cami imarına önem vermiştir. Ayrıca vakıf mekanizmasını etkin şekilde kullanarak daha verimli hale getirmiştir.

People can need to services which given by social workers when they encounter an obstacle to fulfill their social functions. In this context aim of the research that to reveal adults who live in Manisa city center knowledges about social work profession and socail assistances, their using servises and faktors affecting using that services. The research is a study on a sample representing 18 years of age and over in the cross-sectional relational screening model in Manisa city center. The sample size was calculated as 1007 in the study. According the results 66.2% of the participants did not know the work area and tasks of the social worker and 62.6% of them did not know social service institutions. These results vary according to the level of education and employment. As education level increases, awareness of social services is also increasing. In addition, as the number of households increases, the rate of benefiting from social services also increases. As a result, social services and social work specialists have not been well recognized.
