Não recebi financiamento The design of new steels with high yield, ultimate strength and good ductility is one of the desirable goals of the industry. The ultra-high strength steels with twin induced plasticity (TWIP) effect are used in applications that demand high ultimate strength, tenacity and use at cryogenic temperatures. Nevertheless, the knowledge of the mechanical behavior of this class of materials under different load conditions is still an object of research. Austenitic stainless steels attend to this classification. In this work the mechanical behavior of a 316LV austenitic stainless steel was evaluated in tension and compression at different temperatures (-100 a 300 ºC) and strain rate of 10-3. The results of the mechanical tests were correlated to the microstructural transformations through evaluation by optical microscopy, x-ray diffraction and electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) maps. The influence of temperature and strain rate on the mechanical twinning mechanism was analyzed. Os aços inoxidáveis austeníticos se encaixam nessa classificação. Neste estudo, o comportamento mecânico do aço 316 LV foi avaliado sob tração e compressão em diferentes temperaturas (-100 a 300 ºC) a uma taxa de deformação 10-3 s-1. Os resultados experimentais dos ensaios de tração e compressão foram relacionados com a evolução microestrutural observada por microscopia óptica (MO), difração de raios x (DRX) e difração de elétrons retroespalhados (EBSD). Em conjunto, observou-se a influência da temperatura sobre a cinética da maclação mecânica. Com base nesses resultados, foi possível propor um modelo matemático constitutivo capaz de prever o comportamento mecânico do material.

Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq) API X70 steel has been widely used in Brazil for the manufacture of ethanol transport pipelines, however, a recognized problem in carbon steel pipes exposed to ethanol is stress corrosion cracking (SCC) and, in addition, the pipelines are subject to fuel pressure fluctuations, causing concern in relation to fatigue. The objective of this research was to evaluate the SCC and corrosion-fatigue (CF) for X70 steel exposed to a circulating synthetic ethanol solution (CSES), with a view to the microstructure/environment interaction. Quench treatment in synthetic mineral oil was developed to modification of as-received microstructure. Mechanical tests were performed to analyze susceptibility to SCC, as well as cyclic loading tests to get fatigue crack growth rates (da/dN). Results on notched specimens with as-received microstructure (RA) and heat treated as-received microstructure (HTRA) revealed a strain reduction around 58% and 37%, respectively, after slow strain rate tests in CSES. Under constant load (CL), the RA microstructure steel appears no be sensitive to SCC at stress levels below the yield strength, however, under staggered constant load (SCL) the phenomenon was observed in both types of microstructure. The presence of corrosion product in the fracture surface initiation region for RA microstructure suggests crack closure, causing alterations in the initial portion of the da/dN-ΔK curves, shifting ΔKlim to higher values. Changes in crack growth rates in the Paris-Erdogan linear region for RA microstructure, at low ΔK levels at 0.25 Hz, were identified due to SCC, as well as some crack acceleration due to corrosion-fatigue. The interaction between HTRA microstructure and ethanol solution revealed lower da/dN rates when compared to rates obtained by contact of the solution with the RA microstructure. O aço API grau X70 tem sido amplamente utilizado no Brasil para a fabricação de dutos transportadores de etanol, no entanto, um problema reconhecido em tubos de aço carbono expostos ao etanol é a corrosão sob tensão (CST) e, além disso, os dutos estão sujeitos a flutuações de pressão do combustível, causando preocupação em relação à fadiga. O objetivo desta pesquisa consistiu em avaliar os processos de CST e corrosão-fadiga para o aço X70 exposto a uma solução etanólica sintética circulante (SESC), com vistas à interação microestrutura/ambiente. Tratamento por têmpera em óleo mineral sintético foi realizado para alteração da microestrutura como-recebida. Testes mecânicos foram desenvolvidos para analisar a suscetibilidade à CST, bem como testes sob carregamento cíclico para obter taxas de propagação de trinca por fadiga, da/dN. Resultados em corpos de prova entalhados com microestrutura como-recebida (CR) e microestrutura como-recebida e termicamente tratada (CRTT) revelaram redução da deformação em torno de 58% e 37%, respectivamente, após testes em baixa taxa de deformação em SESC. Sob carga constante, o aço de microestrutura CR parece não ser sensível à CST em níveis de tensão abaixo do limite de escoamento, entretanto, sob carga constante escalonada (CCE) o fenômeno foi observado nos dois tipos de microestrutura. A presença de produto de corrosão na região de iniciação da superfície de fratura para microestrutura CR sugere fechamento de trinca, causando mudanças na porção inicial das curvas da/dN-ΔK, deslocando ΔKlim para maiores valores. Alterações nas taxas da/dN na região linear de Paris-Erdogan para a microestrutura CR, em baixos níveis de ΔK a 0,25 Hz, foram identificadas devido à CST, bem como alguma aceleração de trinca por conta da corrosão-fadiga. A interação entre a microestrutura CRTT e solução etanólica revelou menores taxas da/dN quando comparada às taxas obtidas pelo contato da solução com a microestrutura CR. 141054/2017-4

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) Severe Plastic Deformation (SPD) are well established routes with regard to the intense microstructural refining of metals and alloys up to the submicrometer (< 1 μm) and/or nanometer (< 100 nm) scales. Lowering the processing temperature is also a way to increase the severity of the imposed strain, favoring strengthening and grain refinement. Therefore, it is expected that the combination of SPD and temperatures on the cryogenic scale allow obtaining materials with higher strength. However, severely deformed microstructures at cryogenic temperatures have limited use due to their microstructural instability, a consequence of the high internal energy stored as crystalline defects (vacancies and dislocations). In order to study the mechanical behavior at low temperature and design severely deformed microstructures that are stable in the long term, the present work investigated the Cu-0.8Cr-0.07Zr alloy after Equal Channel Angular Pressing (ECAP) processing at -80 °C, in terms of microstructural stability, comparing it to pure copper processed under the same conditions. Regarding the mechanical behavior of the studied alloy, it was defined that there is the occurrence of both dislocation slipping and mechanical twinning, depending on the level of deformation and temperature. Post-ECAP results indicated that for the Cu-0.8Cr0.07Zr alloy it was possible not only to overcome the obstacle of microstructural instability by post-processing cryogenic ECAP processing, but also to provide an additional increase in the yield stress (+ 22%). Both effects were possible due to the formation of chromium-rich precipitates on a severely deformed microstructure, which hindered the movement of dislocations and grain boundaries. Thus, this set of results allowed us to understand about the strengthening mechanisms, microstructure evolution and thermal stability of the Cu-0.8Cr-0.07Zr alloy, useful for practical applications of materials processed by cryogenic DPS. O processamento via rotas de Deformação Plástica Severa (DPS) é bem estabelecido no que se refere ao intenso refino microestrutural de metais e ligas até as escalas submicrométrica (< 1 μm) e/ou nanométrica (< 100 nm). A redução da temperatura de processamento é, também, uma maneira de aumentar a severidade da deformação imposta, favorecendo o encruamento e refino de grão. Portanto, é esperado que a combinação de DPS e temperaturas na escala criogênica permitam obter materiais com elevada resistência mecânica. Entretanto, microestruturas severamente deformadas em temperaturas criogênicas possuem uso limitado em função da instabilidade microestrutural apresentada, consequência da elevada energia interna armazenada como defeitos cristalinos (lacunas e discordâncias). Com objetivo de estudar o comportamento mecânico em baixa temperatura e projetar microestruturas severamente deformadas que sejam estáveis a longo prazo, o presente trabalho investigou a liga Cu-0,8Cr-0,07Zr após o processamento Extrusão em Canal Angular (ECA) a -80 °C, em termos de estabilidade microestrutural, comparandoa com cobre puro processado sob as mesmas condições. Com relação ao comportamento mecânico da liga estudada, foi definido que há a ocorrência tanto de deslizamento de discordâncias como maclagem, a depender do nível de deformação e da temperatura. Os resultados pós-ECA indicaram que para a liga Cu-0,8Cr-0,07Zr foi possível, não só superar o obstáculo da instabilidade microestrutural pela precipitação pós-processamento ECA criogênica, como também conferir um ganho adicional no limite de escoamento (+22%). Ambos os efeitos foram possíveis devido à formação de precipitados ricos em cromo sobre uma microestrutura severamente deformada, que atuaram de forma a ancorar o movimento de discordâncias e de contornos de grão. Assim, este conjunto de resultados permitiu entender sobre os mecanismos de endurecimento, a evolução microestrutural e a estabilidade térmica da liga Cu-0,8Cr-0,07Zr, úteis para aplicações práticas de materiais processados por DPS criogênica 88882.332697/2010-01

Não recebi financiamento Cutting tools produced from cobalt tungsten carbide alloy (WC-Co), compared to conventional cutting tools, provide lower cost of machining, with increasing productivity and acceptable combination of hardness and fracture toughness. Due to the high value of hardness, the finished product after sintering is obtained by grinding process, which produces high thermal and mechanical loads. However, this process may change the surface characteristics, which affect the cutting insert performance during the application in the machining process. In this context, the present work evaluates the influence of the grinding process variables on the surface integrity of carbide inserts and, consequently, on the tool life in service, in this case, the orthogonal turning of a nodular cast iron. The effects of different conditions of the grinding process were observed (cutting and axial feed speeds, dressing axial speed, diamond grinding wheel of different grain size and bonding material) on the surface roughness (Rz) and edge roughness (∆r), variation in hardness in relation to that of the base material (∆HK) and residual stress in the perpendicular direction to the grinding (σ) of the cemented tungsten carbide cutting inserts. As main results, it was verified that the use of the grinding wheel with smaller grain size (D15) and the use of resinoid binder improved the achievement of lower values of Rz and ∆r, with the consequent generation of more regular surfaces and edges. Higher compressive residual stress and higher hardness in the surface were found after grinding with a vitrified binder wheel and larger grain size (D46). The compressive residual stress e high hardness contributed to increase of the insert ́s life in turning experiments, due to the formation of crack by mechanical effort determining factor for the end of tool life. As ferramentas de corte produzidas com as ligas de carbeto de tungstênio e cobalto (WC-Co), em comparação com ferramentas de corte convencionais, propiciam menores custos de usinagem, ganhos de produtividade e boa combinação entre dureza e tenacidade à fratura. Devido aos elevados valores de dureza, seu acabamento após a sinterização é realizado por processo de retificação, o qual produz elevadas cargas térmicas e mecânicas e causa alteração das características superficiais, as quais afetam o desempenho da ferramenta durante a sua aplicação em processo de usinagem. Neste contexto, o presente trabalho avalia a influência das variáveis do processo de retificação sobre a integridade superficial de insertos de metal duro e, consequentemente, sobre a vida da ferramenta em serviço, no caso, o torneamento ortogonal de um ferro fundido nodular. Foram observados os efeitos de diferentes condições do processo de retificação (velocidade de corte e avanço, velocidade de avanço de dressagem, tamanho do grão abrasivo e tipo de ligante do rebolo diamantado) sobre a rugosidade superficial (Rz) e de aresta (∆r), a variação da dureza em relação à do material base (∆HK) e a tensão residual na direção perpendicular à de retificação (σ) dos insertos de metal duro. Como resultados principais, verificou-se que a aplicação do rebolo com menor tamanho de grão (D15) e ligante resinoide favoreceu a apresentar os menores valores de Rz e ∆r, com a consequente geração de superfícies e arestas mais regulares. Já tensões residuais mais compressivas e maiores durezas na superfície do inserto foram geradas após a retificação com rebolo de ligante vitrificado e maior tamanho de grão (D46). A tensão residual compressiva e a alta dureza contribuíram para o aumento da vida do inserto nos testes de torneamento, sendo a formação de trinca por esforço mecânico o fator determinante para o fim de vida da ferramenta.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) Among the different stainless steel (SS) series, the 200 series, also known as Cr-Ni-Mn alloys, has recently been gaining prominence worldwide. In spite of that, studies addressing the high-temperature deformation these alloys are still scarce in the literature. In this context, this study aims to assess the mechanical and microstructural behavior under deformation of the AISI 201LN alloy when subjected to creep and hot tensile tests. The material was microstructurally characterized as received and after heat treatment. The tensile tests were conducted at room temperature and in the range of 500-800 °C under an initial deformation rate of 10-3s-1, whereas the creep tests were performed under constant load in the temperature range of 600-800 °C. Comparison between the results obtained for the AISI 201 LN alloy and those for other 300 series traditional materials showed very similar values. After the tensile tests at room temperature, a mostly martensitic microstructure, caused by transformation induced plasticity (TRIP), was observed. After the creep tests, evidence of precipitation of Cr carbides was observed in the grain boundaries of some specimens. The long period of exposure to high temperatures changed the morphology of the δ ferrite islands, indicating decomposition of this phase. In the tests performed at 800 °C, formation of precipitates rich in N was observed on the surface of specimens, in addition to intense deterioration of their microstructure. Overall, fracture surface analysis of the specimens indicated a gradually greater predominance of ductile fracture in the tests at higher temperatures. Based on the Zener-Hollomon parameter, constitutive equations were proposed to describe the creep behavior of the material within the range of stresses and temperatures employed. The Larson-Miller creep parameterization technique was applied to the experimental data set aiming to extrapolate from the creep results. Dentre as diferentes séries dos Aços Inoxidáveis (AI), a série 200, também denominada como Cr-Ni-Mn, nos últimos anos vem ganhando destaque no cenário mundial. Apesar disso, ainda são escassos os estudos a respeito do comportamento a quente destes AI’s. Neste contexto, o presente trabalho tem o propósito de estudar o comportamento mecânico e microestrutural sob deformação do AISI 201LN, quando submetido a ensaios de fluência e tração a quente. O material foi caracterizado microestruturalmente na condição como recebido e após tratamento térmico. Os ensaios de tração foram realizados em temperatura ambiente e na faixa de 500ºC a 800ºC, sob taxa de deformação inicial igual a 10-3s-1. Os ensaios de fluência foram realizados sob carga constante, na faixa de temperatura de 600ºC a 800ºC. A comparação dos resultados obtidos para o AISI 201LN com alguns materiais tradicionais da série 300 indicou valores muito próximos. Após ensaios de tração em temperatura ambiente, foi observada uma microestrutura majoritariamente martensítica, causada pelo efeito TRIP (Transformation Induced Plasticity). Após os ensaios de fluência, foram observadas evidências de precipitação de carbonetos de Cr nos contornos de grão em alguns corpos de prova (CP’s). O longo período de exposição em elevadas temperaturas, alterou a morfologia das ilhas de ferrita δ, indicando decomposição desta fase. Nos ensaios a 800ºC, foi observado formação de precipitados ricos em N na superfície dos CP’s, além da intensa deterioração da microestrutura. Análises da superfície de fratura dos CP’s, indicaram de modo geral, gradativamente maior predominância de fratura dúctil nos ensaios em maiores temperaturas. Com base no parâmetro de Zener-Hollomon, foram propostas equações constitutivas para descrever o comportamento de fluência do material, dentro do intervalo de tensões e temperaturas aqui empregado. O método de parametrização de Larson-Miller foi aplicado ao conjunto de dados experimentais, visando a extrapolação dos resultados de fluência. CAPES: 88882.332698/2019-01

The improvement of key properties of theses alloys should enable its use in different applications, such as prestressing concrete structures in civil engineering area. In this context, the present work assesses the cerium (Ce) addition to determine its possible benefits in enhancing both corrosion protection in alkaline media and shape memory effect (SME). The studied experimental alloys were subjected to 0.18%, 0.42% and 0.96% (wt%) of Ce addition, and results were compared to a standard Ce-free alloy. The characterization of such alloys reveals that Ce addition is responsible for a grain size reduction as well as the increase and morphological change in second phase particles. The discussion of the results correlates these microstructural modifications with electrochemical results and SME. Regarding corrosion properties, all samples presented similar passive behaviors in simulated pore solution in absence of chloride ions. When Cl- was added, the sample with 0.18% was the only one to maintain its passivity while other samples showed a major increase in passive corrosion density, indicating a worse stability of the passive film. Pit potential and EIS results showed that the addition of 0.18% of Ce was sufficient to enhance corrosion protection by both changing MnS inclusion morphology and increasing the surface film corrosion protection properties, although it was not high enough to promote oxide, sulfides and intermetallic particles that increases localized corrosion appearance. In terms of shape recovery ratio, an increase in samples with 0.18% and 0.42% of Ce was observed, although there was a reduction in sample with 0.96%. The reduction might be explained by the inhomogeneous microstructure due to the formation of coarse inclusion particles. Finally, the sample with 0.42% presented the best SME results. As ligas Fe-Mn-Si-Cr-Ni vêm ganhando espaço nos trabalhos de desenvolvimento tecnológico e científico das ligas metálicas com efeito de memória de forma (EMF). A melhoria nas propriedades destas ligas possibilita a utilização de “materiais inteligentes” em novos setores, gerando benefícios para a sociedade. Na engenharia civil, a aplicação destas ligas na protensão de estruturas de concreto aparece como uma oportunidade promissora. Neste contexto, o presente trabalho investiga a adição de cério (Ce) para determinar possíveis benefícios tanto em termos de proteção à corrosão em meio alcalino, quanto no aumento do EMF. As ligas estudadas tiveram adição de 0,18%, 0,42% e 0,96% em peso de Ce e foram comparadas à uma liga padrão sem a adição deste elemento. A caracterização das ligas mostra que o efeito do Ce na microestrutura se dá principalmente pela redução do tamanho de grão e pelo aumento na quantidade e alteração morfológica de partículas de segunda fase. A discussão do trabalho correlaciona as diferenças microestruturais com os resultados eletroquímicos e de EMF. No campo da corrosão, as amostras apresentaram comportamentos passivos análogos em solução de poro sem a presença de cloretos, já quando estes íons foram adicionados, a liga com 0,18% manteve a passividade. As outras amostras apresentaram aumento no valor da corrente de passivação. O potencial de pite e os resultados de espectroscopia de impedância eletroquímica (EIE) mostram que a adição de 0,18% de Ce mostrou-se suficiente para o aumento da proteção à corrosão, porém insuficiente para a formação de óxidos, sulfetos e intermetálicos que degradam a proteção à corrosão localizada. Em relação à fração de recuperação de forma, houve um aumento em 0,18% e 0,42% com posterior redução em 0,96%. Esta redução é explicada pela formação de partículas de inclusão grosseiras tornando a microestrutura heterogênea e a amostra com 0,42% apresentou o melhor resultado. Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq) In this study, the influence of small cerium additions on the microstructure and oxidation behavior of Fe-Mn-Si-Cr-Ni shape memory stainless steels (SMSSs) was investigated. The results show that the Ce addition in the alloy promotes a decrease in grain size and the formation of both Ce-containing oxide inclusions as well as secondary phase particles. The fraction of thermal martensite-ε decreases with increasing Ce content in the alloy. On the other hand, the MI temperature increases with the Ce content to values above the room temperature. The shape memory effect (SME) enhances with Ce additions in the alloy of 0.18 and 0.42 wt.%. However, the Ce addition of 0.96 wt.% degrades SME. The oxidation resistance of the tested alloy increases significantly with increasing Ce content. Nevertheless, the Ce addition of 0.96 wt.% decreases relatively to the oxidation resistance. The restrict parabolic law is only observed for alloys containing 0.18 and 0.42 wt.% of Ce. The oxide layer formed after 120 h of oxidation is composed of Mn oxides, promoting the depletion of this element below the oxide and phase transformation from austenite to ferrite. The obtained results show that the Ce addition of 0.18 and 0.42 wt.% in the alloy decreases the MnS inclusions leading to the formation of a more compact oxide layer and an increase on the resistance to oxidation. However, the Ce addition of 0.96 wt.% increases the amount of Ce-containing oxide inclusions that accelerate the Mn diffusion toward the oxide layer, leading to the formation of a less protective oxide layer. Neste estudo, a influência de pequenas adições de cério (Ce) na microestrutura e comportamento de oxidação de aços inoxidáveis Fe-Mn-Si-Cr-Ni com efeito de memória de forma (EMF) foi investigada. Os resultados obtidos mostram que a adição de Ce na liga promove uma diminuição no tamanho de grão e a formação tanto de inclusões de óxido contendo Ce como também de partículas de fase secundárias. A fração de martensita-ε térmica diminui com o aumento do teor de Ce na liga. Por outro lado, a temperatura MI aumenta em função do teor de Ce para valores acima da temperatura ambiente. O EMF melhora com adições de Ce na liga de 0,18 e 0,42% em peso. Contudo, a adição de 0,96% em peso de Ce degrada o EMF. A resistência à oxidação da liga testada melhora com o aumento do teor de Ce em até 0,42% em peso. Por outro lado, a adição de 0,96% em peso de Ce diminui relativamente a resistência à oxidação. A restrita lei parabólica somente é observada para as ligas contendo 0,18 e 0,42% em peso de Ce. A camada de óxido formada após 120 h de oxidação é composta por óxidos de Mn, promovendo o empobrecimento deste elemento abaixo do óxido e a transformação de fase de austenita para ferrita. Os resultados obtidos mostram que a adição de Ce de 0,18 e 0,42% em peso na liga diminui as inclusões de MnS levando à formação de uma camada de óxido mais compacta e um aumento da resistência à oxidação. Entretanto, a adição de 0,96% em peso de Ce aumenta a quantidade de inclusões de óxido contendo Ce que aceleram a difusão do Mn para a camada de óxido, levando à formação de uma camada de óxido menos protetora. Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) Grain refinement is an important hardening mechanism in metallic alloys, notably when the grain size reaches the submicrometer scale. For this purpose, several techniques of Severe Plastic Deformation (SPD) have been employed, among which is the Equal-channel Angular Pressing (ECAP). However, the relation between grain size and corrosion resistance remains a controversial subject for most metallic materials. The aim of the present work is to evaluate the microstructure, the mechanical strength and the stress corrosion cracking (SCC) resistance of two ulfrafine grained aluminum alloys, AA1050 and Al-4%Cu, severely deformed by ECAP. Microstructure was analyzed by optical microscopy (OM), scanning (SEM) and transmission (TEM) electron microscopy, while the mechanical strength was evaluated through conventional hardness and tensile tests. Constant load and slow strain rate (SSR) tensile tests were carried out in an aqueous solution containing 3.5wt% of NaCl, in order to evaluate the SCC resistance of the alloys. After ECAP, OM and MEV revealed a significant grain size reduction in both alloys, with a fragmentation and redistribution of coarse second phase particles in the case of Al-4%Cu alloy. Hardness and tensile tests indicated a remarkable increase in the mechanical strength of the processed materials. In SSR tensile tests, with a relatively short time of exposure to the NaCl environment, CST was detected only in the Al-4% Cu alloy. In constant load tests, fractures occurred at stress levels lower than the yield stress, indicating CST susceptibility for long exposure times, in both alloys. In the absence of Cu particles (AA1050), no significant effects of ECAP processing were observed on the response to CST tests. In the case of Al-4% Cu alloy, it was found that the presence, as well as size and distribution, of the second phase particles affects the CST resistance, and that these factors can be modified, and possibly controlled, by means of ECAP processing. O refino de grãos é um importante mecanismo de endurecimento de ligas metálicas, especialmente quando estes são reduzidos a escalas sub micrométricas. Um dos caminhos já consolidados para esse refino são as técnicas de deformação plástica severa (DPS), dentre as quais está o processamento por extrusão em canal angular (ECA). A relação entre o tamanho de grão e a resistência à corrosão de um material, no entanto, é um assunto ainda controverso. Esse trabalho tem como objetivo analisar a microestrutura, o comportamento mecânico e a resistência à corrosão sob tensão (CST) das ligas de alumínio AA1050 e Al-4%Cu com granulação ultrafina obtida por ECA. As mudanças microestruturais foram avaliadas por técnicas de microscopia óptica (MO), eletrônica de varredura (MEV) e de transmissão (MET) e as propriedades mecânicas por ensaios de tração e dureza. A resistência à CST foi avaliada por ensaios de tração em baixa taxa de deformação (BTD) e em carga constante (CC), em solução aquosa com 3,5% em peso de NaCl. Com o processamento até 8 passes de ECA houve drástica redução no tamanho médio dos grãos até valores abaixo de 1 μm e, no caso da liga Al-4%Cu, fragmentação e reorientação das partículas grosseiras de Cu, presentes na condição inicial. Os ensaios de tração e de dureza indicaram grande aumento na resistência mecânica dos materiais processados. Nos ensaios de tração em BTD, com tempos relativamente curtos de exposição ao meio, a CST foi detectada apenas na liga de Al-4%Cu. Nos ensaios em CC ocorreram fraturas abaixo do limite de escoamento em ambas ligas, indicando suscetibilidade a CST em longos tempo de exposição. Na liga AA1050 não foram observados efeitos significativos do processamento ECA na resposta aos ensaios de CST. Na liga Al-4%Cu verificou-se que a presença, assim como o tamanho e a distribuição, das partículas de segunda fase de Cu afeta sensivelmente a resistência à CST, sendo que esses fatores podem ser modificados, e eventualmente controlados, por meio do processamento ECA. Orientador: Eugênio José Zoqui Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Engenharia Mecânica Resumo: A liga de alumínio ISO 355 apresenta excelentes características do ponto de vista termodinâmico para ser utilizada como matéria-prima para processos de reofundição e tixoconformação, como um bom equilíbrio entre a coexistência da fase primária alfa sólida em meio ao líquido com composição próxima ao eutético, nos processamentos no estado semissólido, o que viabiliza o controle do processo. Otimizar a microestrutura da matéria-prima é o passo seguinte para sistematizar este processamento. Para tanto, é necessário ter-se uma microestrutura a mais refinada possível, no entanto, o refino químico de grão de ligas de alumínio com alto teor de silício, como é o caso da liga ISO 355, é prejudicado. O refino de grão por cavitação por ultrassom (UST – Ultrasonic Melt Treatment) é visto como uma possível solução para esses casos. Assim, este trabalho apresenta dois objetivos: a) analisar os parâmetros de processo do UST quanto ao tipo de sonotrodo e tempo de tratamento para se alcançar o máximo refino de grão da matéria-prima e b) avaliar a tixoconformabilidade em termos microestruturais e reológicos para a liga ISO 355 na condição de máximo refino. Desta forma, amostras foram produzidas por fundição convencional (base de comparação) e submetidas ao UST por diferentes tempos e tipos de sonotrodo (aço e titânio). Os melhores resultados foram obtidos com 30 s de UST com um sonotrodo de aço, gerando bom refino do tamanho de grão (GS ~160 µm), baixo espaçamento dendrítico primário (?1 ~130 µm) e secundário (?2 ~20 µm), bem como baixa porosidade (0,4%). A liga ISO 355 também foi analisada quanto à estabilidade da microestrutura na faixa semissólida por meio de tratamentos térmicos de globularização e o consequente comportamento reológico. Para tanto, a liga foi aquecida até a temperatura de 595 ºC (fração líquida aproximada em 55%), sob taxa de aquecimento de 100 ºC/min, mantida por 0, 30, 60, 90 e 120 s e resfriada em água. Gerou-se GS ~110 µm, tamanho de glóbulo (GLS) ou ?1 ~80 µm. Nestas mesmas condições, o comportamento reológico foi investigado por meio de testes de compressão a quente para se determinar a tensão e a viscosidade em função da deformação gerando viscosidade aparente máxima na faixa 5*105 Pa.s. A caracterização da transição sólido-líquido também foi avaliada por meio da técnica de aquecimento in situ utilizando um microscópio confocal de varredura a laser. Por fim, as propriedades mecânicas do produto tixoconformado foram analisadas em termos de dureza (~80 HV), tração (YE ~100 MPa) e flexão (YE ~200 MPa). Os excelentes valores para as propriedades mecânicas justificam a utilização da liga em tixoconformação Abstract: The ISO 355 aluminum alloy has excellent thermodynamic properties for use as a raw material for rheocasting and thixoforming processes, due to a good balance between the existence of the solid alpha primary phase in the liquid with a composition like eutectic, in the semisolid state processing, which allows the process control. Optimizing the microstructure of the raw material is the next step to systematize this processing. To achieve this, it is necessary to have the most refined microstructure possible. The chemical refinement of aluminum alloys with high silicon content, as in the case of ISO 355 alloy, is impaired, however, grain refinement via Ultrasonic Melt Treatment (UST) is seen as a possible solution in these cases. This work presents two objectives: a) to analyze the UST process parameters regarding horn type and treatment time to achieve maximum grain refinement of the raw material and b) to evaluate the thixoformability in microstructural and rheological terms for ISO 355 alloy in the maximum grain refinement achieved. In this way, samples were produced by conventional casting (base of comparison) and submitted to UST by various times and horn type (steel and titanium). The best results were obtained after 30 sec of UST with a steel horn, generating a good refined grain size (GS ~160 ?m), low primary (?1 ~130 ?m) and secondary dendrite arm spacing (?2 ~20 ?m), as well as low porosity (0.4%). The ISO 355 alloy was also analyzed for the stability of the microstructure in the semisolid range through thermal treatments of globularization and the consequent rheological behavior. Therefore, the alloy was reheated up to the temperature of 595 ºC (approximate liquid fraction in 55%), under a heating rate of 100 ºC/min, and maintained for 0, 30, 60, 90 and 120 sec and cooled in water. The results were a grain size of ~110 ?m and a globule size (GLS) or ?1 ~80 ?m. Under these same conditions, the rheological behavior was investigated by hot compression tests to determine the stress and the viscosity as a function of the deformation, generating maximum apparent viscosity in the range 5*105 Pa.s. Characterization of the solid-liquid transition was performed by in situ observation technique using high-temperature confocal laser scanning microscopy. Finally, the mechanical properties of the thixoformed product were analyzed in terms of hardness (~80 HV), tension test (YE ~100 MPa) and bend test (YE ~200 MPa).
