Abstract

The Neuber's rule developed by M. Chaudonneret has been reformulated using variables such as normalized stress, strain and time. This enhances the rule's applicability to include the examination of stress and strain concentration under creep conditions. Results revealed a decline in stationary stress concentration factor below nominal creep conditions. In addition, concentration factors were observed to approximate stationary values after long-time loading.

10. From in field to in vitro: response to heavy metal environmental pollution in Leptodyctium riparium

Abstract

This study evaluated the biological effects of heavy metal pollution of the heavily contaminated channels Regi Lagni, running through the so-called “terra dei fuochi” (South Italy), using the aquatic moss L. riparium. This species is a efficient bioindicator of heavy metal pollution, accumulating different heavy metals taken from the aquatic environment (Basile et al, .2011). Biological effects of heavy metal pollution were assessed by studying metal bioaccumulation, ultrastructural damage, oxidative stress, and stress gene expression. Experiments were performed both on samples exposed in field in moss bags and in vitro-cultured in conditions reproducing the heavy metal pollution. Three sites were chosen as representative of the extreme polluted conditions. In vitro samples were exposed to the same HM concentrations as measured in the 3 sites. The results showed severe ultrastructural damage, increase of ROS production, induction of antioxidant enzymes and expression of stress gene. Those changes were observed both in the samples collected from the polluted sites and in those in vitro treated with the same heavy metal concentrations as in the field. In the in vitro test all the considered parameters were severely affected, although at a lower extent in comparison with the field experiment. The results showed that in vitro studies are useful indicators of the role exerted by the different stressors in environmental conditions. In addition, these results suggest L. riparium as a model organism in biomonitoring projects and the ultrastructural, enzymatic and genetic responses as promising biomarkers of heavy metal toxicity.

29th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition; 123-126, The key advantage of a thin absorbing layer in solar cells is related to reduced electrical transport losses. Yet, decreasing the absorber thickness significantly reduces absorption of sunlight. In this regard, engineering the geometry of substrate allows one to trap the light within a physically thin layer and maximize the absorption. In this work, we experimentally investigate the scattering properties of one-dimensional rough substrates that provide strong and broad-band absorption enhancement. We demonstrate that these substrates have superior scattering properties with respect to the commonly used Asahi-U textures. In particular, we focus on Angular Resolved Scattering (ARS) of transmitted light and haze (i.e., the ratio of the intensity of scattered light to the total intensity of light transmitted through the texture). Finally, we compare the experimental results with the numerical simulations, obtaining a good agreement.

22. P135 A CASE OF RIGHT CORONARY ARTERY ANEURYSM COMPLICATED BY ENDOVASCULAR THROMBOSIS

Abstract

Coronary artery aneurysm is a rare disorder with prevalence in male population. The most commonly involved vessel is the right coronary artery followed by the anterior descending artery. The most frequent etiologies are coronary atherosclerosis and Kawasaki disease. The treatment of coronary aneurysms with significant stenosis is often surgical, with implantation of covered stents in case of saccular aneurysms. In coronary artery aneurysms without significant stenosis, medical therapy is often the most suitable choice. Case report We present a case of a 68–year–old man with history of hypertension and dyslipidemia, who arrived to our ED with inferior STEMI. Left coronary angiography showed a 75% stenosis of the distal anterior descending artery and subocclusion of the first left marginal artery. Right coronary angiography revealed a severely ectatic vessel (7–8 mm diameter) with intraluminal thrombosis and markedly slowed flow (TIMI 1). Considering the regression of symptoms and ECG alterations, intracoronary bolus of Tirofiban was performed followed by i.v. infusion of 24 hours in association with DAPT. Blood tests did not detect any relevant alterations of coagulation profile but only an heterozygous mutation for MTHFR with slightly altered homocysteine values. Six days later, a second coronary angiography was performed which confirmed the persistence of thrombotic formation into the right coronary artery that was treated with rheolytic thromboaspiration and TIMI 2 final flow. In consideration of the angiographic findings, it was decided not to implant coronary stents. After multidisciplinary team discussion it was decided to associate DAPT with oral anticoagulant therapy (Warfarin 5 mg, INR 2–3) The patient was discharged with indication to continue the triple antithrombotic therapy for 6 months followed by double antithrombotic therapy with ASA and Warfarin.

In the present paper we fabricate and characterize graphene/n-crystalline-silicon heterojunctions with simple planar thin-film geometry. The rectifying behaviour of the devices is verified through the acquisition of dark current-voltage curves. External quantum efficiencies (EQE) have also been measured to evaluate the charge separation and collection, as a result of the Schottky barrier formed at the interface between graphene and silicon. Our devices show EQE values over 50% for wavelengths in the range 400 nm<
