Tinnitus can induce disabling psychological suffering, requiring an integrative multimodal approach, combining neuromodulation and psychotherapeutic methods. We sought to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy and acceptability of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) in tinnitus. This was a single-center prospective non-comparative study. Inclusion criteria comprised: adult patient, with chronic tinnitus, Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI) score > 17, causing psychological distress motivating active treatment after ineffective "classic" treatment (combining advice, sound therapy and first-line drug treatment), and agreement to EMDR therapy. Therapeutic efficacy was defined by a decrease in THI or Visual Analog Scale (VAS) scores. Treatment acceptability was defined by the rate of included patients who completed therapy. Thirty-eight patients were included. There was a significant reduction of 53.5% in THI score in 78.9% of patients (P < 0.0001; 64.8 ± 20.8 before versus 31.8 ± 24.7 after treatment), and of 51% in VAS score in 76.3% of patients (P < 0.0001; 7.24 ± 2.12 before versus 3.58 ± 2.03 after treatment). The treatment acceptability was 86.8%. EMDR appeared to be an effective alternative that was acceptable to the majority of patients, after failure of "classic" first-line treatment, improving quality of life in tinnitus patients and thus relieving disability. PRIMARY care , *WELL-being , *MENTAL depression , *RELAXATION for health , *SOCIAL anxiety , *PATIENT education , *HEALTH self-care , *PRIMARY health care - Abstract
Background. The aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of an intensive four-week structured group relaxation- training program (sophrology's dynamic relaxation) on anxiety and depression symptoms in primary care patients with moderate and high anxiety levels. Method. In an experimental study, seventy patients, according to the Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale - Anxiety subscale (HADS-A), cut-off > 8, were randomized to the "well-being and sophrology" or a control program based on physical and mental health recommendations (PMHR). Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and the State-trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) ratings were obtained before and after 12 one-hour sessions for 4 consecutive weeks. Results. Sixty-five patients completed the study. The dropout rate was 2.9% (N=1) for the intervention group and 11.4% (N=4) for the control group. Sophrology showed statistically significant improvements in all HADS and STAI subscales for with-in group (p<0.001) and between groups analysis (p=0.001 to 0.046), regardless of gender or age. The pre-post effect sizes (Cohen's d) for anxiety and depression symptoms were large for sophrology (ES=0.84 to 1.36) and small to moderate for the control (ES=0.28 to 0.49). Conclusion: An intensive four-week structured group relaxation-training program "well-being and sophrology" is highly effective in reducing anxiety and depression symptoms in primary care patients with moderate and high anxiety levels. COGNITIVE therapy ,EMOTIONAL trauma - Abstract
To assess (without comparison versus controls) the efficacy of a sophrology protocol adapted to disabling subjective tinnitus, in diminishing the handicap induced by perception of tinnitus. One hundred and forty consecutive patients, aged 18–83 years, underwent a protocol comprising 6–8 sessions of sophrology over a 2–4 month period. Impact was assessed on pre- to post-treatment progression on the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI), a validated questionnaire measuring handicap induced by tinnitus. Mean THI scores improved, by > 20 points in 59.2% of cases (i.e., clinically significant decrease). Improvement was independent of tinnitus duration (> versus < 6 months) and origin (acoustic trauma versus emotional shock), and concerned all 3 THI subscales (functional, catastrophic and emotional). The present sophrology protocol, dedicated to subjective tinnitus, reduced intrusiveness. Further studies with a control group are needed to confirm efficacy as compared to waiting list or other validated treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The body approach is a real challenge in nursing training. It is part of the relationship between the caregiver and the cared-for. Through their bodies, students experience all their sensations and perceptions. Questioning nursing students through the phenomenological approach of sophrology means enabling them to achieve body-mind harmonization, a fundamental pillar of this mind-body technique. The regular practice of sophrology teaches them to act autonomously on themselves, developing their personal resources for a better body-mind and/or mind-body well-being., (Copyright © 2023 Elsevier Masson SAS. - Abstract
Physical training has been recommended to improve overall well-being in patients with fibromyalgia. Body relaxation exercises also seem to have some beneficial effect, however there is no consensus regarding this modality. Comparing the effectiveness of sophrology and resistance training in improving the pain of women with fibromyalgia. A randomized controlled clinical trial with a blind evaluator. Sixty (60) women with a medical diagnosis of fibromyalgia were randomized and included in two groups: sophrology group (SG) who participated in a relaxation program based on sophrology (n = 30), and resistance group (RG) (n = 30) who participated in a resistance training program for biceps, pectoral, triceps, knee extensors, trapezius, knee flexors, hip abductors. Both groups were treated twice a week for 12 weeks and reevaluated every 4 weeks. The assessment instruments used were the Visual Analog Scale for Pain (VAS), the one-repetition maximum test (1 RM), the overall quality of life (SF-36), the 6-min walk test (6MWT), the Timed Up and Go test (TUG) and the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ). We found that the RG presented statistically significant decreases in pain (VAS) during the evaluations (p < 0.05) and increased strength of the evaluated muscles (p < 0.05). A statistically significant decrease in pain (p < 0.05) was observed in the SG compared to T0, with no significant differences in muscle strength. Differences between groups were observed, with better indices only for 6MWT and functional capacity domain of the SF36 for the RG (p < 0.05). No differences in pain were found between the groups. Resistance training was more effective than sophrology in improving strength and functional capacity of women with fibromyalgia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Goal: To determine if the practice of sophrology during pregnancy has an impact on the perceived stress, on the experience of childbirth as well as on certain medical parameters of labor and delivery.Material and method: A comparative study was conducted with 23 pregnant women practicing sophrology during their pregnancy. 3 questionnaries were used: a first one sent before the sophrology sessions, using the APSI scale for antenatal perceived stress; a 2nd one sent after the sophrology sessions, also using the APSI scale; and 3rd one sent after childbirth, using the QEVA scale for assessing childbirth experience, and the PNPSI scale for assessing postnatal perceived stress. Results: The study showed a non-significant decrease in stress experienced during pregnancy. On the other hand, an improvement in well-being and a feeling of decreased stress was mentioned by the women. The study did not show a decrease in perceived stress in the postpartum period. Most of the patients had a good experience of their delivery. Only some patients who have experienced uncontrolled events (induction of labor, caesarean section, instrumental delivery) have a negative experience. None of the medical parameters of labor and delivery are modified by sophrology, except the duration of labor for primiparous women, which is shorter. Conclusion: Sophrology has a positive impact on pregnancy and on the experience of labor and delivery but would need to be continued in the postnatal period to achieve optimal effects on the perceived stress during this period.

Introduction: Sophrology is the science of the serene spirit applied to human consciousness. Body relaxation exercises are not yet a consensus in the treatment of fibromyalgia. Objective: To investigate the effectiveness of a relaxation exercise program based on sophrology in patients with fibromyalgia. Method: This is a pilot study, controlled, randomized and with blinded evaluator and eighteen patients with medical diagnosis of fibromyalgia were randomized into two groups: the intervention group (IG) who participated in sophrology sessions (n= 8) and control group (CG) who participated of a resistance training program (n= 10). Both groups underwent treatments 2 times per week for 12 weeks and reevaluations every 4 weeks. The assessment instruments used were the visual analogic scale of pain (VAS), the satisfaction with the treatment by the Likert scale, the 6-minute walk test (6MWT), the Timed Up and Go test (TUG) and the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ). Results: We did not find statistical differences in any of the variables between the groups. The intragroup evaluation, there was a significant difference in CG for TC6 (p= 0.01) and TUG (p= 0.04). In IG there was a statistically significant difference (p = 0.02) for the FIQ. Conclusion: Thus, the improvement in 6MWT and TUG in the CG and the improvement in the FIQ in the IG group showed promising results, although studies with larger sample is needed for more accurate results.

Non-specific chronic low back pain is a frequent cause for disability and a recurrent cause for medical consultation with high costs to public health. Although physiotherapy usually reduces disability and pain-related anxiety-depressive symptoms, many patients still report partial improvement and recurrent and disabling pain episodes. Therefore, a new approach to rehabilitate chronic low back pain that includes other modulating psychosocial factors is necessary. This article presents preliminary findings from the chronic low back pain study protocol (N= 71; Clinical Trials Reference NCT01993355) aimed to assess the effects on patients' health-related quality of life of two complementary interventions to standard physiotherapy (n= 22); sophrology (n= 26) and cognitive-behavioral group intervention (n= 23). After 6 months, intervention groups showed no improvements in any of the variables assessed. Only the control group showed lower mean scores for self-perceived pain. Characteristics of the interventions (e.g. specific contents, abilities trained, intensive planning, group format, etc.) could explain these counterintuitive results. More research is needed to investigate the efficacy, efficiency and specific characteristics of multidisciplinary interventions that better address the needs of this population with chronic low back pain. Highlights • Exercise capacity in patients with CHD is lower than in the general population. • Non-invasive relaxation therapy may be effective in patients with dyspnoea. • Evidence based-medicine on relaxation therapy in the CHD population is poor. • This trial will assess the impact of Sophrology on exercise capacity in CHD patients., Background Recent advances in the field of congenital heart disease (CHD) have significantly improved the overall prognosis. Now more attention is being given to health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and promotion of physical activity. Non-invasive relaxation therapy may be effective in cardiac patients concerned with exercise-induced dyspnoea. The SOPHROCARE randomised trial aims to assess the impact of Caycedian Sophrology on cardiopulmonary fitness in adolescents and young adults with CHD. Methods The SOPHROCARE trial is a nationwide, multicentre, randomised, controlled study in CHD patients aged from 13 to 25 years old. Patients will be randomised into 2 groups (8 Sophrology group sessions vs. no intervention). The primary outcome is the change in percent predicted maximum oxygen uptake (VO2max) between baseline and 12-month follow-up. A total of 94 patients in each group is required to observe a significant increase of 10% in VO2max with a power of 80% and an alpha risk of 5%. The secondary outcomes are: clinical outcomes, cardiopulmonary exercise test parameters (VE/VCO2 slope, ventilatory anaerobic threshold, oxygen pulse, respiratory response to hypercapnia), health-related quality of life score (PedsQL), physical and psychological status. Conclusion After focusing on the survival in CHD, current research is opening on secondary prevention and patient-related outcomes. We sought to assess in the SOPHROCARE trial, if a Sophrology program, could improve exercise capacity and quality of life in youth with CHD. Trial registration Clinicaltrials.gov (NCT03999320).

Background: Interventional radiology procedures in cancer patients cause stress and anxiety. Our objective was to relate our experience in the use of sophrology techniques during interventional radiology procedures and evaluate the effects on patient’s pain and anxiety. Methods: We present a prospective observational study on 60 consecutive patients who underwent interventional radiology procedures in a context of oncologic management from September 2017 to March 2018. Forty-two patients were asked if they wished to benefit from the sophrology and hypnosis techniques during their procedure. A control group was also made including 18 patients. Anxiety level and pain were evaluated using the visual analog scale (VAS) before and during procedures. Results: We observed a significant decrease in anxiety experienced by patients during interventional radiology procedures compared to before procedures in the sophrology group (P=3.318E−08), and a level of anxiety and pain during gestures inferior to that of the control group (P=2.035E−06 and 7.03E−05 respectively). Conclusions: Relaxing therapies, such as sophrology and hypnosis, seems to be an interesting additional tool for the management of patients in interventional oncology, inducing a decrease of stress, pain, and anxiety in patients.

International audience; Background: Asthma is the most common chronic disease in pediatrics. Along with the usual drug therapy using corticosteroids and bronchodilators, some interest has been shown for adjuvant therapies, such as sophrology. However, the level of evidence for non‐pharmaceutical therapies in asthma remains low, especially in children. This study aimed to assess whether in children with asthma, peak expiratory flow (PEF) improved more after a sophrology session alongside standard treatment than after standard treatment alone. Methods: We carried out a prospective randomized controlled clinical trial among 74 children aged 6‐17 years old, hospitalized for an asthma attack. Group 1: conventional treatment (oxygen, corticosteroids, bronchodilators, physiotherapy) added to one session of sophrology. Group 2: conventional treatment alone. The primary outcome was the PEF variation between the initial and final evaluations (PEF2‐PEF1).Results: Demographic and clinical characteristics were similar in both groups at baseline. Measures before and after the sophrology session showed that the PEF increased by mean 30 L/min in the sophrology group versus 20 L/min in the control group (P = 0.02). Oxygen saturation increased by 1% versus 0% (P = 0.02) and the dyspnea score with visual analogue scale improved by two points point (P = 0.01). No differences were observed between the two groups in terms of duration of hospitalization, use and doses of conventional medical treatment (oxygen, corticosteroids, and bronchodilators), and quality of life scores. Conclusions: Sophrology appears as a promising adjuvant therapy to current guideline‐based treatment for asthma in children.

The interrogation is essential to trace the genesis of the tinnitus and to appreciate its repercussion. Clinical examination should look for a local, vascular or cervical cause. The ENT consultation with audiogram and tinnitus evaluation is essential to know the characteristics of the tinnitus and to consider the treatment. If tinnitus is accompanied by a decrease in hearing, then wearing hearing aids can correct deafness and decrease the tinnitus. The psychological impact of tinnitus must always be taken into account and the use of a multidisciplinary team is an interesting solution. Medical treatments are not very effective; on the other hand psychotherapies (CBT, TRT and sophrology) bring a real improvement. The doctor's speech must always be supportive and provide therapeutic hope.

Abstract: Objectives: Non-invasive ventilation (NIV) in patients with acute respiratory failure (ARF) is subject to a large number of failures due to discomfort of the art, the feeling of difficulty breathing and pain. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of sophrology to improve conditions for the realization of NIV in patients with ARF. Patients and methods: In this prospective randomized and controlled study, consecutive patients with ARF were included. From the very first NIV session, they received either sophrology during the first 30min of NIV (S group), or standard care by the same nurse during 30min (T group). The hemodynamic and ventilatory data were recorded continuously; pain, respiratory difficulty and discomfort were measured with a numeric scale at the end of the session. Results: Thirty patients were included in the study, 27 have been analysed. Each patient received an average of four sessions NIV during the protocol. There was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of improvement in gas exchange. In contrast, there was a significant difference in terms of reduction of difficulty in breathing (−76%), discomfort (−60%) and decrease the pain (−40%) in the sophrology group (p <0.001). Respiratory rate, heart rate and systolic arterial blood pressure were decrease during NIV. Conclusion: Sophrology constitutes aid for the achievement of the meetings of NIV in patients IRA. This review evaluated the effect of complementary and alternative medicine on pain during labor with conventional scientific methods using electronic data bases through 2006 were used. Only randomized controlled trials with outcome measures for labor pain were kept for the conclusions. Many studies did not meet the scientific inclusion criteria. According to the randomized control trials, we conclude that for the decrease of labor pain and/or reduction of the need for conventional analgesic methods: (i) There is an efficacy found for acupressure and sterile water blocks. (ii) Most results favored some efficacy for acupuncture and hydrotherapy. (iii) Studies for other complementary or alternative therapies for labor pain control have not shown their effectiveness. This thesis comes from a reflection based on the way in which kindergarten students progressively become students. The hypothesis being that the expression and the management of the emotions have an important place, the protocol retained for this experimentation is based on two sequences. The first, which concerns domain 1 of the program resulting from the 2015 B.O. "Mobilizing language in all its dimensions", proposes to work on the discovery and expression of emotions in context around youth albums.

- Abstract
Following the sophrological definition of consciousness, a definition of “planetary consciousness” is given in reference to the integration of individual consciousnesses. An “internal way” to the evolution of planetary consciousness is outlined making use of the right hemisphere of the brain. The challenge is to bring about this evolution in a world where the great majority still faces the struggle for mere survival. The evolutionary transformation of consciouness is the way toward the transformation of society, and ultimately of humanity itself. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

It is important to support patients with cancer during their care pathway and even beyond. They undergo long and difficult treatments, all anxiety-causing situations and sources of stress. Sophrological techniques help patients to find calm, lessen their fears and offer them the opportunity to work on themselves through simple easily reproducible exercises. This observation has been verified by a study carried out at the Institut Curie with patients undergoing chemotherapy.

Cilj ovog preglednog rada je prikazati dosadašnja saznanja vezana uz područje neuroznanosti koja se bave istraživanjem theta moždanih valova i primjenu ovih spoznaja u različitim interdisciplinarnim kontekstima., Theta waves, depending on the cerebral area where they appear, can be divided into cortical and hypoampthal theta waves, and their difference is not only in frequency but also in the role they have. Most available information on human hippocampal theta activity comes from several small studies conducted with participants suffering from epileptic seizures with intracranial-built electrodes used as part of the treatment. Although Stewart and Fox (1991) described a clear 7-9 Hz theta rhythm within the hippocampus, in the largest and most systematic studies, Cantero et al. (2003) found that oscillations in the frequency range of 4-7 Hz can be recorded in the hippocampus and neocortex, although some authors emphasize that these two theta activities are virtually unrelated. Cortical theta waves indicate a frequency of 4 to 7 Hz. They are particularly important within creative therapeutic and psychotherapeutic processes because they occur in moments when the subconscious is activated and when all the suppressed content is received. In this psychological and physical state, all of the subjects sensations are withdrawn from the outside world and focused on internal signals. Also, theta waves are associated with the state of deep meditation and regeneration of the organism. Many scientists dealing with meditation and neurological research behind it have discovered a great association of brain waves with certain states of consciousness that are used to influence different states of physical and mental health. Within the Educational and Rehabilitation profession, knowledge of brain waves gives an insight into biology behind a certain behavior, a person's need or feeling and thus provides a better understanding of the therapeutic process. The aim of this review is to present the knowledge of neuroscience in the field of brainwave research and the application of these findings in various interdisciplinary contexts.

Many researchers succeed in relaxing subjects by various methods. However, few are concerned about the ability of relaxation. Hence, the main goal of this study is to help people relax faster. We developed a virtual reality neurofeedback relaxation training system, called Virtual Sophrologist, which immerses users in fantastic environments by a Virtual Reality headset, guides users to follow the Sophrology instructions by a female voice, and displays feedback in real time, which is translated from the Meditation Score collected by EEG. To evaluate this system, we recruited 6 subjects to participate in our 8-session relaxation training and collected their subjective data (by self-report) and objective data (by an EEG headset) to measure the psychological level and to calculate the Time Interval to Relaxation that they took to reach the maximum Meditation Score. The results show decreases in Anxiety and Depression Score from the psychological level, a decrease in Time Interval to Relaxation and an increase in the maximum Meditation Score. Therefore, our system will be useful as a training tool for users who need or want to experience a fast and deep relaxation, whenever they need.

The Objectives were to evaluate the effectiveness of a prenatal support program (created ex-novo) aimed at pregnant mothers of small fetuses for Gestational Age (PEG): to detect if this procedure improves the physical and neurobehavioral development of the neonate, the emotional state of the mother and the bond between them. This was a quasiexperimental study of a controlled clinical trial and without random assignment of the intervention performed in the Maternal-fetal area of BCNatal (Hospital of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Service of Hospital Clínic and Sant Joan de Déu Hospital in Barcelona). The final sample size was 158 pregnant women, of whom 65 were part of the intervention group and 93 were part of the control group. At the end of the program, it is observed that the fetus and the neonate show a greater weight gain and greater cranial perimeter in the intervention group. As for the abilities and competences of the newborn, evaluated with the Brazelton Scale, those in the intervention group obtained slightly better results in almost all the studied parameters, emphasizing a greater capacity of habituation before the auditory stimuli. In relation to the pregnant woman, the most relevant results at the end of the program are a reduction of anxiety (valued with the STAI questionnaire) and a greater maternal-filial affective attachment (valued with the EVAP scale). In conclusion, for pregnant mothers of PEG fetuses, having participated in a prenatal support intervention program has a beneficial outcome for both mother and child, with less maternal anxiety, better bonding conditions, and improved development physical and signs of better neurobehavioral abilities in the neonate.

En suma, ofrecer técnicas de relajación a aquellas madres con un embarazo de riesgo (feto RCIU) mejora su grado de ansiedad., Objective To compare the degree of anxiety in two groups of women carrying fetuses diagnosed with intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR): one group attended exclusively by specialists in maternal-fetal medicine, and the other also attended by a midwife trained in relaxation techniques; and to identify the most prevalent feelings in women on being informed of the diagnosis. Material and Method Multi-method study: quantitative (quasi-experimental design) and qualitative (phenomenological). Participants were pregnant adult women carrying a fetus diagnosed with IUGR, without psychiatric disorders or language difficulties. The control group included women who followed the gestation control protocol in place at the high-risk unit. Women in the experimental group, in addition to standard controls, had three visits with the midwife, during which the midwife explained anxiety control techniques to them in detail. Both groups performed the same test to evaluate anxiety (STAI), at the beginning and at the end of their participation. In addition, semi-structured interviews were conducted with the women in the experimental group. Results Women who had contact with the midwife in addition to the standard care had lower scores on the STAI scale (indicating lower anxiety levels) than women who received care only from maternal-fetal medicine specialists. The interviews revealed the most prevalent feelings to be: a) feelings regarding themselves, b) feelings regarding the staff and hospital, and c) feelings regarding coping. Conclusions Offering relaxation techniques to pregnant mothers at risk (with IUGR) reduces their level of anxiety.

- Abstract
A patient with a stutter caused by the trauma of the death of a loved one was able to recover normal speech 1 week before her death, which resulted from intestinal obstruction caused by ovarian cancer. The stutter appeared to have been overcome using a combination therapy of sophrology, self-regulation, and drug therapy. During a genuine resilience process, the patient was able to overcome an earlier existential fracture. In this final phase of life, health professionals and the family fully respected the patient's independence to remain in control of events. She repeatedly refused to have a nasogastric tube inserted to extract fecal matter from the stomach. This patient consequently repossessed her own language of expression in a body that was shattered by cancerous illness and the consequences of treatments. She thus managed to find a successful balance between the body, the spirit, and the brain. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: Few stress markers are available for women in perinatal period. We introduced biopyrrin (BPn) for monitoring the perinatal stress and investigated how the stress could be regulated. Methods: Study patients consisted of 220 full-term pregnant women between 2006 and 2008. Cases were analyzed based on 1) pattern of delivery, the use of pain control (anesthesia) or hypnotics (Sophrology), 2) maternal complications, and 3) habitual smoking or alcohol consumption. Urinary samples were collected from pregnant women before and after delivery, and from newborn babies. Results: The average level of BPn in pregnant women was 2.61 ± 0.25 U/g·Creatinin (Cre). (Mean ± SE). This is significantly higher than age-matched non-pregnant women (0.79 ± 0.24 U/g·Cre). After normal delivery, BPn was significantly elevated to 5.29 ± 0.57 U/g·Cre (p < 0.001). BPn decreased significantly to 3.41 ± 0.51 U/g·Cre in sophrology assisted delivery and 4.87 ± 0.53 U/g·Cre under epidural anesthesia (p < 0.05), while delivery induction elevated BPn (11.62 ± 1.95 U/g·Cre). Conclusions: BPn might be an excellent indicator for monitoring perinatal stress. Significant decrease of BPn in sophrology-assisted delivery suggests that the technique should be useful for the relief of perinatal stress.

This study aims to evaluate the effects of mental training on the development of attention and retention skills in Tunisian male kick boxers. Hundred and twenty athletes, with homogeneous age (22 ± 2.3 years), height (1.74 ± 0.08 m) and weight (65 ± 10.2 kg) were selected for the study. They were divided into three groups of forty subjects; the first two have been submitted to the monological or sophrological training and the last served as a control. Our results have shown that both mental training types improve the above cited criteria in athletes. However, the effects were much more pronounced with sophrological treatment. We conclude that monology and sophrology can be two effective methods for optimizing the attention and retention levels in Tunisian male kick boxers but the latter is more effective.

- Abstract
Background: Recent advances in the field of congenital heart disease (CHD) have significantly improved the overall prognosis. Now more attention is being given to health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and promotion of physical activity. Non-invasive relaxation therapy may be effective in cardiac patients concerned with exercise-induced dyspnoea. The SOPHROCARE randomised trial aims to assess the impact of Caycedian Sophrology on cardiopulmonary fitness in adolescents and young adults with CHD., Methods: The SOPHROCARE trial is a nationwide, multicentre, randomised, controlled study in CHD patients aged from 13 to 25 years old. Patients will be randomised into 2 groups (8 Sophrology group sessions vs. no intervention). The primary outcome is the change in percent predicted maximum oxygen uptake (VO2
max ) between baseline and 12-month follow-up. A total of 94 patients in each group is required to observe a significant increase of 10% in VO2max with a power of 80% and an alpha risk of 5%. The secondary outcomes are: clinical outcomes, cardiopulmonary exercise test parameters (VE/VCO2 slope, ventilatory anaerobic threshold, oxygen pulse, respiratory response to hypercapnia), health-related quality of life score (PedsQL), physical and psychological status., Conclusion: After focusing on the survival in CHD, current research is opening on secondary prevention and patient-related outcomes. We sought to assess in the SOPHROCARE trial, if a Sophrology program, could improve exercise capacity and quality of life in youth with CHD., Trial Registration: Clinicaltrials.gov (NCT03999320)., Competing Interests: None., (© 2020 The Authors.)- Published

Because of the high degree of complexity of assisted reproduction techniques (ART), the human and conscious dimensions of infertility problems are often neglected. Different strategies may help infertile couples coping with infertility and related treatments; among these, Caycedian sophrology relies on the cognitive, emotional, and somatic aspects of consciousness. In the present article, the authors report on their experience with sophrologic support for infertile patients by a midwife qualified in caycedian sophrology. Overall, since 1988, 310 couples have benefied from this kind of support, with an average of 10 sophrologic trainings per patient. Whereas some couples consider sophrology as a short time training to better cope with any particular aspect of their infertility treatment, others want to undertake more profound work on their body scheme. The authors wish to call the attention of ART professionals to this kind of medical support for infertile couples, and also to the particular role of midwives with sophrologic competence in an ART center.

- Abstract
Non-specific chronic low back pain is a frequent cause for disability and a recurrent cause for medical consultation with high costs to public health. Although physiotherapy usually reduces disability and pain-related anxiety-depressive symptoms, many patients still report partial improvement and recurrent and disabling pain episodes. Therefore, a new approach to rehabilitate chronic low back pain that includes other modulating psychosocial factors is necessary. This article presents preliminary findings from the chronic low back pain study protocol (N= 71; Clinical Trials Reference NCT01993355) aimed to assess the effects on patients’ health-related quality of life of two complementary interventions to standard physiotherapy (n= 22); sophrology (n= 26) and cognitive-behavioral group intervention (n= 23).

Rezultati: Kroz dobivene dvije glavne komponente promjena za opservirane varijable i njihovu analizu, rezultati istraživanja potvrdili su polaznu hipotezu, odnosno vrijednost analitičkog pristupa i komplementarne primjene sofrologije i art/ekspresivnih terapije u okviru kompleksnog liječenja i rehabilitacije., Aim: The aim of this research was evaluation of the changes in coping mechanism, emotional experience and expression of the children with cancer, during complex programs of medical treatment and rehabilitation, and was conducted in a frame of the scientific project “Complementary Therapies and Life Potential Development” supported by Ministry of Science of the Republic of Croatia a Method: In the frame of a case study, observed sample included one boy, age 14, with diagnosis Osteosarcoma Maxilae t. dex. (osteosarkoma of right maxillary), hospitalized at the Department for Hematology and Oncology at the Children’s Hospital Zagreb. Initial hypothesis was that the complementary use of art/expressive therapy, drafted according to the individual needs of children during complex treatment and rehabilitation, manifested in changes in the child’s coping mechanisms in connection with the tendencies of changes in other control variables. For evaluation are used following instruments: Gibson spiral maze – test for measuring of psychomotor skills, Aqua test for Self-report measurement of stress reaction, Basic Ph model and SUO – Scale for coping for children and adolescents. The program was conducted in seven assessment points and the original data for the controlled variables were processed by the INDIFF analysis of changes. Results: Obtained through the two main components of change for the observed variables and their analysis, research results have confirmed the initial hypothesis, that the value of complementary analytical approaches and application of sophrology and art/expressive therapy in the complex treatment and rehabilitation. Conclusion: Supporting mechanisms for coping in children with malignant disease is crucial to maintain child’s psychoemotional homeostasis during treatment and rehabilitation. In this context art/expressive therapy and sophrology, such methods and procedures designed and implemented through the individual protocol, may have psychotherapeutic and supporting function.

Zaključak: Rezultati ovog istraživanja mogu biti prilog razvoju područja psihosocijalne onkologije, sofrologije i art/ekspresivnih terapija i motivacija za daljnja istraživanja u okviru interdisciplinarnog i holističkog pristupa liječenju i rehabilitaciji djeteta s malignim oboljenjem., Aim: The main aim of this research includes the analysis of the psychodynamics of the changes in the experience of the child and in the parent-child relationship, during the complementary application and supporting creative art/expressive therapy in pediatric oncology, especially in connection with the modern concepts of psychosocial oncology, sophrology, education and rehabilitation sciences. Method: According to initial hypothesis application of complementary and creative art/expressive therapy (structured application of dynamic relaxation/breathing and sophrotherapy, individual and group artistic expression, guided imagination and elements of drama therapy), in the concept of sophrology, psychosocial oncology and art/expressive therapy, will be manifested in the psychodynamics of changes in problem areas: a) the experience of the child and b) the parent-child relationship.
