This paper introduces the Bosch street dataset (BSD), a novel multi-modal large-scale dataset aimed at promoting highly automated driving (HAD) and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) research. Unlike existing datasets, BSD offers a unique integration of high-resolution imaging radar, lidar, and camera sensors, providing unprecedented 360-degree coverage to bridge the current gap in high-resolution radar data availability. Spanning urban, rural, and highway environments, BSD enables detailed exploration into radar-based object detection and sensor fusion techniques. The dataset is aimed at facilitating academic and research collaborations between Bosch and current and future partners. This aims to foster joint efforts in developing cutting-edge HAD and ADAS technologies. The paper describes the dataset's key attributes, including its scalability, radar resolution, and labeling methodology. Key offerings also include initial benchmarks for sensor modalities and a development kit tailored for extensive data analysis and performance evaluation, underscoring our commitment to contributing valuable resources to the HAD and ADAS research community.

In 2018, NSF funded an effort to pilot a Cyberinfrastructure Center of Excellence (CI CoE or Center) that would serve the cyberinfrastructure (CI) needs of the NSF Major Facilities (MFs) and large projects with advanced CI architectures. The goal of the CI CoE Pilot project (Pilot) effort was to develop a model and a blueprint for such a CoE by engaging with the MFs, understanding their CI needs, understanding the contributions the MFs are making to the CI community, and exploring opportunities for building a broader CI community. This document summarizes the results of community engagements conducted during the first two years of the project and describes the identified CI needs of the MFs. To better understand MFs' CI, the Pilot has developed and validated a model of the MF data lifecycle that follows the data generation and management within a facility and gained an understanding of how this model captures the fundamental stages that the facilities' data passes through from the scientific instruments to the principal investigators and their teams, to the broader collaborations and the public. The Pilot also aimed to understand what CI workforce development challenges the MFs face while designing, constructing, and operating their CI and what solutions they are exploring and adopting within their projects. Based on the needs of the MFs in the data lifecycle and workforce development areas, this document outlines a blueprint for a CI CoE that will learn about and share the CI solutions designed, developed, and/or adopted by the MFs, provide expertise to the largest NSF projects with advanced and complex CI architectures, and foster a community of CI practitioners and researchers.

This article describes experiences and lessons learned from the Trusted CI project, funded by the US National Science Foundation to serve the community as the NSF Cybersecurity Center of Excellence. Currently, digital maps are indispensable for automated driving. However, due to the low precision and reliability of GNSS particularly in urban areas, fusing trajectories of independent recording sessions and different regions is a challenging task. To bypass the flaws from direct incorporation of GNSS measurements for geo-referencing, the usage of aerial imagery seems promising. Furthermore, more accurate geo-referencing improves the global map accuracy and allows to estimate the sensor calibration error. In this paper, we present a novel geo-referencing approach to align trajectories to aerial imagery using poles and road markings. To match extracted features from sensor observations to aerial imagery landmarks robustly, a RANSAC-based matching approach is applied in a sliding window. For that, we assume that the trajectories are roughly referenced to the imagery which can be achieved by rough GNSS measurements from a low-cost GNSS receiver. Finally, we align the initial trajectories precisely to the aerial imagery by minimizing a geometric cost function comprising all determined matches.
