High Energy Physics - Phenomenology - Abstract
In 2020, the LHCb collaboration reported the exclusive branching fractions for the channels $B_s^0 \to D_s^{(*)-}\mu^+\nu_\mu$ for the very first time. In view of these observations, we have recently reported the form factors and branching fraction computations for these channels employing the covariant confined quark model. As different other channels corresponding to $b \to c \ell \nu_\ell$ have provided the hint for New Physics, the analysis of observables such as forward-backward asymmetry, longitudinal and transverse polarizations across the lepton flavours can serve as one of the important probes for the search for possible New Physics. In present work, we compute these observables for all the lepton flavours and compare our predictions with the other theoretical approaches., Comment: Contribution to Frontiers in Particle Physics 2023

High Energy Physics - Phenomenology - Abstract
The mass spectra and decay properties of heavy quarkonia are computed in nonrelativistic quark-antiquark Cornell potential model. We have employed the numerical solution of Schr\"odinger equation to obtain their mass spectra using only four parameters namely quark mass ($m_c$, $m_b$) and confinement strength ($A_{c\bar c}$, $A_{b\bar b}$). The spin hyperfine, spin-orbit and tensor components of the one gluon exchange interaction are computed perturbatively to determine the mass spectra of excited $S$, $P$, $D$ and $F$ states. Digamma, digluon and dilepton decays of these mesons are computed using the model parameters and numerical wave functions. The predicted spectroscopy and decay properties for quarkonia are found to be consistent with available experimental observations and results from other theoretical models. We also compute mass spectra and life time of the $B_c$ meson without additional parameters. The computed electromagnetic transition widths of heavy quarkonia and $B_c$ mesons are in tune with available experimental data and other theoretical approaches.

High Energy Physics - Phenomenology - Abstract
We study the leptonic and semileptonic $D$-meson decays (${{\mathit D} \to} {{\mathit \ell}^{+}}{{\mathit \nu}_{{{{\mathit \ell}}}}}$ and ${\mathit{D} \to} {{\mathit K}^{(*)}}{{\mathit \ell}^{+}}{{\mathit \nu}_{{{{\mathit \ell}}}}}$) in the framework of covariant quark model with built-in infrared confinement. We compute the required form factors in the entire kinematical momentum transfer region. The calculated form factors are used to evaluate the branching fractions of these transitions. We determine the following ratios of the partial widths: $\Gamma ({{\mathit D}^{0}} \rightarrow {{\mathit K}^{-}}{{\mathit e}^{+}}{{\mathit \nu}_{{e}}})/\Gamma({{\mathit D}^{+}} \rightarrow {{\overline{\mathit K}}^{0}}{{\mathit e}^{+}}{{\mathit \nu}_{{e}}}) = 1.02$, $\Gamma({{\mathit D}^{0}} \rightarrow {{\mathit K}^{-}}{{\mathit \mu}^{+}}{{\mathit \nu}_{{\mu}}})/\Gamma({{\mathit D}^{+}} \rightarrow {{\overline{\mathit K}}^{0}}{{\mathit \mu}^{+}}{{\mathit \nu}_{{\mu}}}) = 0.99$ and $\Gamma({{\mathit D}^{+}} \rightarrow {{\overline{\mathit K}}^{0}}{{\mathit \mu}^{+}}{{\mathit \nu}_{{\mu}}}) / \Gamma({{\mathit D}^{+}} \rightarrow {{\overline{\mathit K}}^{0}}{{\mathit e}^{+}}{{\mathit \nu}_{{e}}}) = 0.97$ which are in close resemblance with the iso-spin invariance and experimental results., Comment: 20 pages, 6 tables, 7 figures

High Energy Physics - Phenomenology - Abstract
The electromagnetic radiative transition widths for heavy quarkonia, as well as digamma and digluon decay widths, are computed in the framework of the extended harmonic confinement model (ERHM) and Coulomb plus power potential (CPP$_\nu$) with varying potential index $\nu$. The outcome is compared with the values obtained from other theoretical models and experimental results. While the mass spectra, digamma and digluon widths from ERHM as well as CPP$_{\nu=1}$ are in good agreement with experimental data, the electromagnetic transition widths span over a wide range for the potential models considered here making it difficult to prefer a particular model over the others because of the lack of experimental data for most transition widths., Comment: 12 pages, 8 tables, Accepted for publication in Chinese Physics C

This work is on the Physics of the B Factories. Part A of this book contains a brief description of the SLAC and KEK B Factories as well as their detectors, BaBar and Belle, and data taking related issues. Part B discusses tools and methods used by the experiments in order to obtain results. The results themselves can be found in Part C. Please note that version 3 on the archive is the auxiliary version of the Physics of the B Factories book. This uses the notation alpha, beta, gamma for the angles of the Unitarity Triangle. The nominal version uses the notation phi_1, phi_2 and phi_3. Please cite this work as Eur. Phys. J. C74 (2014) 3026., Comment: 928 pages, version 3 (arXiv:1406.6311v3) corresponds to the alpha, beta, gamma version of the book, the other versions use the phi1, phi2, phi3 notation

High Energy Physics - Experiment - Abstract
In this communication I describe the ATLAS forward physics program and the detectors, LUCID, ZDC and ALFA that have been designed to meet this experimental challenge. In addition to their primary role in the determination of ATLAS luminosity these detectors - in conjunction with the main ATLAS detector - will be used to study soft QCD and diffractive physics in the initial low luminosity phase of ATLAS running. Finally, I will briefly describe the ATLAS Forward Proton (AFP) project that currently represents the future of the ATLAS forward physics program., Comment: 4 pages, Proceedings for Lake Louise Winter Institute 2010

High Energy Physics - Experiment - Abstract
We have measured the branching fractions for the exclusive decay modes $B\to {\chi}_{c1(2)} K(K^*)$ using a $140~{\rm fb}^{-1}$ data sample collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. The measured branching fractions for $B^+\to {\chi}_{c1}K^+$, $B^0\to {\chi}_{c1}K^0$, $B^0\to {\chi}_{c1}K^{*0}$ and $B^+\to {\chi}_{c1}K^{*+}$ decay modes are $(4.5\pm 0.2\pm0.5)\times 10^{-4}$, $(3.5\pm 0.3\pm0.5)\times 10^{-4}$, $(3.1\pm 0.3\pm0.7)\times 10^{-4}$ and $(4.1\pm 0.6\pm0.9)\times 10^{-4}$, respectively, where the first error is statistical and the second error is systematic. We do not observe statistically significant signals for the $B\to {\chi}_{c2}K(K^*)$ decay modes and set upper limits at the 90% confidence level. We also study the helicity distribution for $B\to {\chi}_{c1} K^*$ decay mode and show that the longitudinal polarization component is dominant. {{\it Keywords:} {$B$-meson, Charmonium, Branching Fractions, Polarization}} {{\it PACS:} 13.25.Hw, 11.30.Er}, Comment: 21 pages, 5 figures, 3 tables. We present an analysis of exclusive charmless semileptonic B-meson decays based on 377×106 BB̄ pairs recorded with the B A BAR detector at the Υ(4S) resonance. We select four event samples corresponding to the decay modes B0→π-ℓ+ν, B +→π0ℓ+ν, B0→ρ -ℓ+ν, and B+→ρ0ℓ +ν and find the measured branching fractions to be consistent with isospin symmetry. Assuming isospin symmetry, we combine the two B→πℓν samples, and similarly the two B→ρℓν samples, and measure the branching fractions B(B0→π -ℓ+ν)=(1.41±0.05±0.07)×10 -4 and B(B0→ρ-ℓ+ν)=(1. 75±0.15±0.27)×10-4, where the errors are statistical and systematic. We compare the measured distribution in q2, the momentum transfer squared, with predictions for the form factors from QCD calculations and determine the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element |V ub|. Based on the measured partial branching fraction for B→πℓν in the range q2

We present a study of 649±35 e⊃+e⊃-→cc̄ events produced at √s±10.6GeV containing both a Λc+ baryon and a Λ̄c- antibaryon. The number observed is roughly 4 times that expected if the leading charmed hadron types are uncorrelated, confirming an observation by the CLEO Collaboration. We find a 2-jet topology in these events but very few additional baryons, demonstrating that the primary c and c̄ are predominantly contained in a correlated baryon-antibaryon system. In addition to the charmed baryons we observe on average 2.6±0.2 charged intermediate mesons, predominantly pions, carrying 65% of the remaining energy.© 2010 The American Physical Society.

In a sample of 467×106 BB̄ pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II collider at SLAC we have observed the decay B̄0→Λc+p̄π0 and measured the branching fraction to be (1.94±0.17±0.14±0.50)×10-4, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and the uncertainty on the Λc+→pK-π+ branching fraction, respectively. We determine an upper limit of 1.5×10-6 at 90% C.L. for the product branching fraction B(B̄0→Σc+(2455)p̄) ×B(Λc+→pK-π+). Furthermore, we observe an enhancement at the threshold of the invariant mass of the baryon-antibaryon pair. © 2010 The American Physical Society.

A search for the Z(3930) resonance in γγ production of the DD̄ system has been performed using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 384fb-1 recorded by the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy electron-positron collider. The DD̄ invariant mass distribution shows clear evidence of the Z(3930) state with a significance of 5.8σ. We determine mass and width values of (3926.7±2. 7±1.1)MeV/c2 and (21.3±6.8±3.6)MeV, respectively. A decay angular analysis provides evidence that the Z(3930) is a tensor state with positive parity and C parity (JPC=2++); therefore we identify the Z(3930) state as the χc2(2P) meson. The value of the partial width Γγγ×B(Z(3930)→DD̄) is found to be (0.24±0.05±0.04)keV. © 2010 The American Physical Society.

The ratio R(τμ)(Υ(1S))=Γ(Υ(1S)→τ+ τ-)/Γ(Υ(1S)→μ+ μ-) is measured using a sample of (121.8±1.2)×10(6)Υ(3S) events recorded by the BABAR detector. This measurement is intended as a test of lepton universality and as a search for a possible light pseudoscalar Higgs boson. In the standard model (SM) this ratio is expected to be close to 1. Any significant deviations would violate lepton universality and could be introduced by the coupling to a light pseudoscalar Higgs boson. The analysis studies the decays Υ(3S)→Υ(1S)π+ π-, Υ(1S)→l+ l-, where l=μ, τ. The result, R(τμ)(Υ(1S))=1.005±0.013(stat)±0.022(syst), shows no deviation from the expected SM value, while improving the precision with respect to previous measurements.

Charged-lepton flavor-violating processes are unobservable in the standard model, but they are predicted to be enhanced in several extensions to the standard model, including supersymmetry and models with leptoquarks or compositeness. We present a search for such processes in a sample of 99x10(6)Upsilon(2S) decays and 117x10(6)Upsilon(3S) decays collected with the BABAR detector. We place upper limits on the branching fractions B(Upsilon(nS)-->e(+/-)tau(-/+)) and B(Upsilon(nS)-->mu(+/-)tau(-/+)) (n=2,3) at the 10(-6) level and use these results to place lower limits of order 1 TeV on the mass scale of charged-lepton flavor-violating effective operators.

We study the reaction e+e-→e+e -ηc, ηc→KSK±π" and obtain ηc mass and width values 2982.2±0.4±1.6MeV/c2 and 31.7±1.2±0.8MeV, respectively. We find Γ(ηc→γ γ)B(ηc→KK̄π)=0.374±0.009±0.031keV, and measure the γγ*→ηc transition form factor in the momentum transfer range from 2 to 50GeV2. The analysis is based on 469fb-1 of integrated luminosity collected at PEP-II with the BABAR detector at e+e- center-of-mass energies near 10.6 GeV. © 2010 The American Physical Society.

We present a search for the decay B+→ℓ +νℓ(ℓ=τ,μ,ore) in (458.9±5.1)×106 BB̄ pairs recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B-factory. We search for these B decays in a sample of B+B- events where one B-meson is reconstructed as B-→D0ℓ -ν̄X. Using the method of Feldman and Cousins, we obtain B(B+→τ+ντ)=(1.7±0.8±0.2) ×10-4, which excludes zero at 2.3σ. We interpret the central value in the context of the standard model and find the B meson decay constant to be fB2=(62±31)×103MeV2. We find no evidence for B +→e+νe and B+→μ+ν μ and set upper limits at the 90% C.L. B(B+→e +νe)

We report measurements of the branching fractions of neutral and charged B meson decays to final states containing a K1(1270) or K1(1400) meson and a charged pion. The data, collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, correspond to 454×106 BB̄ pairs produced in e+e- annihilation. We measure the branching fractions B(B0→K1(1270)+π-+K1(1400) +π -)=3.1-0.7+0.8×10-5 and B(B+→ K1(1270) 0π++K1(1400) 0π+)=2.9-1.7+2.9×10 -5 (

We present results for the moments of observed spectra in inclusive semileptonic B-meson decays to charm hadrons B̄→Xc -ν̄. Moments of the hadronic-mass and the combined mass-and-energy spectra for different minimum electron or muon momenta between 0.8 and 1.9GeV/c are obtained from a sample of 232×106 Υ(4S)→BB̄ events, collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B-meson factory at SLAC. We also present a reevaluation of the moments of electron-energy spectra and partial decay fractions B(B̄→Xce-ν̄) for minimum electron momenta between 0.6 and 1.5GeV/c based on a sample of 51×106 Υ(4S)→BB̄ events. The measurements are used for the extraction of the total decay fraction, the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix element |Vcb|, the quark masses mb and mc, and four heavy-quark QCD parameters in the framework of a Heavy-Quark Expansion (HQE). We find B(B̄→Xc -ν̄)= (10.64±0.17±0.06)% and |Vcb|=(42.05±0.45±0.70) ×10-3. © 2010 The American Physical Society.

We present a study of the inclusive D*± production in the decay of Υ(1S) using (98.6±0.9)×106 Υ(2S) mesons collected with the BABAR detector at the Υ(2S) resonance. Using the decay chain Υ(2S)→π+π-Υ(1S), Υ(1S)→D*±X, where X is unobserved, we measure the branching fraction B[Υ(1S)→D*±X]=(2. 52±0.13(stat)±0.15(syst))% and the D*± momentum distribution in the rest frame of the Υ(1S). We find evidence for an excess of D*± production over the expected rate from the virtual photon annihilation process Υ(1S)→γ *→cc̄→D*±X. © 2010 The American Physical Society.

Searches for lepton-flavor-violating decays of a tau lepton to a lighter mass lepton and a photon have been performed with the entire data set of (963+/-7)x10{6} tau decays collected by the BABAR detector near the Upsilon(4S), Upsilon(3S) and Upsilon(2S) resonances. The searches yield no evidence of signals and we set upper limits on the branching fractions of B(tau{+/-}-->e{+/-}gamma)mu{+/-}gamma)
